And the music played on……….

This past summer, 8 male singers were selected for the Kansas Choral Director’s All-State Men’s Choir, and 7 female singers were selected for the All-State Women’s Choir. They re-hearsed with other selected singers from all over the state of Kansas for two days, performing a program on July 8 at Grace Cathedral in Topeka. Students representing LHS included: Katie Ahern, Gwentessa Alfie, Elias Beeson, Jackson Berland, Daisy Blitch, Amanda Hilmes, Meagan Hunt, Gavin Jones, Brayden Liakos, Michael McFadden, Samuel Phillips, Kara Smith, Cameron Stussie, Caitlin Trevino and Simon Wenger.

LHS also had three students selected for the National Association for Music Education All-National Honor Choir. To be eligible, students had to be a member of their state All-State Choir from the previous year and then submit a video audition. Chosen to sing in Grapevine, Texas this November were Bryce Dunn, Gavin Jones, and Cameron Stussie.

LHS is proud to announce that its Debate and Forensics squad had an excellent showing at this summer’s National Speech and Debate Tournament in Salt Lake City. Stefan Petrovic (class of 2016) finished in the top 30 in the nation in International Extemporaneous Speaking. Natalie Cote’ (class of 2017) finished in the top 60 in Informative Speaking. Bridget Smith (class of 2017) was chosen to be a member of the East Kansas World’s Debate Team, and they finished #17 in the nation. Vera Petrovic (class of 2019) also competed, but did not advance to the elimination rounds. It was a great summer to be a Chesty Lion!

Destination Imagination

Attention 3rd through 12th graders! Do you enjoy working in a group to solve problems? How about thinking creatively and critically? If so, Destination Imagination is the program for you! The Destination Imagination program encourages teams of learners (3-7 per team) to have fun, take risks, and focus and frame challenges while incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), the arts, and service learning. Participants learn patience, flex-ibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem solving process by designing a solution to a team challenge.

News from Health Desk………

Students on prescription medications need to have a permission form com-

pleted by the parent and the prescription bottle locked in the medicine cabinet at

school. It is not necessary to have asthma inhalers in the health office. Stu-

dents may keep their inhalers with them since they may need it during passing

periods, gym classes, etc. Epi Pens, diabetic supplies and other emergency meds

can be with students, but information just need to reviewed with the nurse so

staff can be aware.

Controlled medication (ADD meds, pain meds) must be brought to the health of-

fice. Students are never allowed to carry any controlled medication with them.

Please call the nurse, Carol Casteel RN, 330-2704.

Please send snacks with your student if they aren’t going to eat

breakfast at home or school. We DO NOT have vending ma-

chines at LHS and teachers and nurse do not have a supply of

snacks.

LHS Parking Permits: The fee for a parking permit is $10. All student vehicles parked in school parking lots must be registered and display an LHS permit. Alt-hough this pass will allow you to park in Student designated are-as, a Student Parking Per-mit does not allow parking des-ignated for visitors or LHS Facul-ty. When the student lots are full students must park on the street.

There is a $25 fine issued to stu-dents that park on campus but do not have a valid permit dis-played.

Please visit the LHS Finance Of-fice to purchase a Student Park-ing Permit.

Students will not be required to have a permit for the first days of school, so they may have the opportunity to purchase a permit
