St. Brigid’s Parish, Killester Parish Newsletter March 2015 Dear Friends, The Archbishop’s recent visit to our Church for the celebration of Mass with all the religious and consecrated people of the Diocese was a delightful occasion. Over six hundred Priests, Sisters, Brothers as well as consecrated lay people attended on the 1 st of February, the Feast of St. Brigid. All were presented with St. Brigid’s Crosses, handmade by the girls of St. Mary’s Secondary School. After the Mass a most pleasant reception was held in the Pastoral Centre and, thanks to the staff of volunteers and the wonderful planning and skilful organisation of Karol, the Centre’s Pastoral Coordi- nator, everyone was made most welcome and the day was a great success. Some of the many pho- tos of the event are contained in the Newsletter thanks to the kindness of Liam Mooney. March will be a busy month. Apart from the usual activities there will be a four week “You shall be my Witnesses” programme, for the parents of Confirmation Candidates on Monday evenings. Its purpose is to assist parents prepare with their chil- dren at home for this Sacrament in conjunction with the excellent work carried out at school. In this way the Parish, Home and School will all be in- volved, and the preparation will be rooted in the family life and practice of the Catholic home. On Thursday nights in March, after Adoration, i.e. at 8.15 pm there will be discussion and lis- tening on “The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and Contemporary World”. This is the topic Pope Francis has chosen for the Synod of Bishops in October, and we have been asked by our bishops to gather your views on changes in the world and how modern life now influences family life. The family is the “Domestic Church”, and its evangelising influence on parents, children and those around us is crucial. So please come along and make your voice and views heard. Who knows, they may well end up in Rome being considered at the Synod. Fr. Alex Mass for the Sick The Sacrament of the Sick will be administered at a special Mass of Anointing at 3 pm, on the Feast of the Annunciation of Our Lord on Wednesday March 25 th , in St. Brigid’s Church Killester. All are wel- come. Those who are housebound will be facilitated through our local community radio and a special re- membrance will be made for them. Indeed, volunteers may wish to undertake driving them to the church on that day. Eucharistic Adoration Eucharistic Adoration takes place in our Church on Monday and Wednesday after 10.00 am Mass until 3.00 pm each day and on Thursday night between 7.00 and 8.00 pm. If you are prepared to ‘watch for one hour’ of adoration per week you will be very welcome. Novena booklets and leaflets are available in the Church including ‘’ The Power of an hour with Jesus’’. You are also welcome to drop in ‘just for a few minutes’. The theme for Thursday nights’ Adoration in March (7 to 8 pm) will be Prayers for people suffering from de- pression.

In Memoriam We deeply regret the passing of Sean Corrigan, who did much work in our Church and Resource Centre, and was well known to some parishioners. In recent times he moved to America with his family to begin a new life. He died in a tragic accident while working on a building in Boston in the past week, and leaves a wife and three children. May he Rest in Peace.

Pastoral Centre News

As mentioned already St. Brigid’s Day was a huge success and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Volunteers who helped out on what was such a busy day. A huge ‘thank you’ also came from Archbishop’s House who were delighted with the hospital-ity they received from the Centre. Well done to all! Congratulations to all involved in “Downturn Abbey”. It was a huge success. St. Michael’s House Chanel Unit hosts its Annual “Bring a Book buy a Book” day here in the Centre on Wednesday March 11th from 10.00 am – 2.00 pm. This is a great event for a very worthy cause. I’m sure there will be something for everyone so please come along. The Centre would like to wish all of those taking part in the “Strictly Come Dancing” night in aid of KARE Social Services the very best of luck. The ladies and gentlemen have been here every Monday night rehearsing tirelessly, to put on a great night and raise funds for this very deserving cause. “Strictly” takes place on Friday March 6th in the Crowne Plaza, Santry. Karol.

We have also put in place at our Shrines, Prayer and Novena booklets for the different devotional prayers and ceremonies taking place in the Church.

So why don’t you call into the shop and see for yourself the items for sale before you go anywhere else. The shop is located at the car park side of the Church. All proceeds go to Parish funds
