FROM THE PASTOR

Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful, (Luke

6:27-38).

Our first reading today from Prophet Samuel (1 Samuel

26), set the message for us. King Saul was consumed with

jealousy of young David’s rising popularity. He had driven

the youth from court and pursues him in the Judean desert.

David was given the opportunity to rid of Saul, but he re-

fuses to take revenge on his persecutor. David and Abishai

went one night and enter unimpeded into king Saul’s camp

and found Saul and Abner, his military general asleep and

unguarded. Instead of taking Saul’s life, David steals the

insignia of Saul’s royal person to prove that he had the op-

portunity to eliminate Saul. David was compassionate to-

ward an unjust persecutor. He did not deal with his enemy

according the unjust attack against himself. David knows

the Lord will reward every person according to the terms of

righteousness and faithfulness.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus clarify the mercy and forgiveness

of God in a clear way. He says to love our enemies and do

good to those who hate us, and Jesus went further to say to

bless those who curse us and pray for those who mistreat

us, (Luke 6). Jesus give us the golden rule so that we will

understand more about who we are and what we should do

to be children of God, “Do to others as you would have

them do to you….For the measure with which you measure

will in return be measured out to you,” (Luke 6).

Jesus’ life and His teachings summed up the message for

this Sunday. The heart of God the Father when He teaches

us all what we should follow of how we handle and treat

one another in every affairs of life. We could understand

the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit we receive on the Sacra-

ment of Confirmation comes to life in Luke’s Gospel to-

day. The gifts of understanding, knowledge, counsel, forti-

tude, wisdom, piety, and fear of the Lord. When all of these

gifts come to life and we are able to live it in our hearts, we

will be able to understand in the light of Jesus Words in the

holy Gospel of Luke 6, today. God bless!

ASH WEDNESDAY—WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6th—MASS AT 9:00AM & 7:00PM I would like to encourage you to get the APP on your iph-

one call iBreviary so that you can pray from it every-

day! Have a great week!

ONWARD TO THE KINGDOM I would like to encourage our Parish to attend this wonder-

ful Lenten Program of our North Macomb Vicariate. This is

a great opportunity if you didn’t take a Spiritual Retreat!

Onward To The Kingdom is the wonderful and peaceful

love and His purpose in your life, and center of our life in

Him who loves us. I hope you will take this great oppor-

tunity with your family to attend this spiritual retreat during

TIME & TALENT CORNER For the next several weeks you will have the opportunity

to learn about the various ministries at St. Mary Mystical

Rose. There are a variety of ways for you to get involved

in your Parish through these ministries. There are activi-

ties that are perfect for children, youth, adults and sen-

iors! You will find something that works for you whether

you are single, married or a member of a growing family!

Some people prefer to work “behind the scenes” per-

haps as a Sacristan, or to help decorate the Church dur-

ing the change of Liturgical Seasons. Others want to be

more actively involved in the weekly liturgy, such as in

the choir or as Lectors, Eucharistic ministers or Altar

Servers or Ushers. You will be surprised at the array of

volunteer opportunities that are available at our parish!

You can learn more about these various ministries at the

Time and Talent Fair which will be held on April 6th and

7th, after Mass. Please mark these dates on your calen-

dar.

The Traveling Chalice Program The purpose of the Chalice Program is to encourage fami-lies to pray and promote vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. The consecrated Chalice is a tangible re-

minder of this special intention for the Church. The Second Vatican Council highlights the responsibility of the laity to pray for and support vocations. This urgent call has been

strongly affirmed in the writings and addresses of both Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI.

Praying for vocations is the most powerful way to support vocations. A vocation is a call from the Holy Spirit, a gift

from God that is nurtured in prayer. When we pray for vo-cations, we lift up to our Father those men and women

whom He is calling to follow Him in a very special way. We hope that those who bring the cup home will continue to

pray daily for vocations. How the Program Works

Each week at Mass, an assigned family is invited to take the gifts up at the Offertory Procession. At the end of

Mass, the family is called by the priest to come forward to receive the chalice bag and a blessing. (This bag contains a consecrated chalice in a wooden chest, a poster of the

seminarians to hang up, the prayer card, and stationery to send notes of encouragement to the Seminarians, Priests

and Religious). The family takes the chalice home and puts it in a place of honor.

Each day for a week, during prayer time (morning, bedtime or at meals), the family prays for an increase and perse-verance of vocations. They can also send a note of sup-port to a Seminarian, Priest or Sister. The following Sun-

day the family returns the chalice bag for another family to take home.

Please contact the office if your family would like to receive the

Chalice.
