Hello, Team Psych I’d like

to introduce myself. My

name is Lynn Sweeney, and

together with my husband

and two daughters we are

new members of Team

Psych. I am a USAT Level 1

Coach and a USAT Certified

Official. In April 2012, I will

attend the training to become

a USAT Youth and Junior Athlete Certified Coach. My hus-

band, Dan, is a USAT Certified Race Director, and also a USAT

Certified Official. As a sports coach, I have been training chil-

dren for three years through the Gills Family YMCA in Trinity.

I began with Kids on the Run, an experiential learning program

for kids ages 8-12 that combine training for a 5k running event

with life-changing, self-esteem enhancing, uplifting warm-ups

and workouts that encourage emotional, social, mental and

physical development.

Soon after, I took on the role of triathlon coach at the Y work-

ing with kids ages 5-13 training for their first triathlon. Through

the Youth Try a Tri program, the children successfully com-

pleted their first triathlon at YTS events and many have contin-

ued in the sport. I love sharing my passion for multi-sport with

kids because who doesn’t love to swim, bike and run! And with

kids, it’s even more important to keep it fun.

I have held two successful triathlon camps in the Trinity area

for children ages 5-12. The format incorporated an intro to tri-

athlon, safety, skills development in swimming, biking and

running, practice on transitions, brick workouts, discussions

on nutrition, race etiquette, and ended with a mini-triathlon on

the last day of camp. While the workouts were challenging I

kept the children engaged in fun activities. The fast-paced

games, relays and drills were geared to their age and develop-

mental level. I will be holding a holiday triathlon camp in the

Longleaf neighborhood of Trinity, January 2-6. You do not

have to be a resident of Longleaf to participate. You may reg-

What I hope to bring to Team Psych is the opportunity for

children of current members to participate in group activities

geared to youth athletes. Kids ages 8-12 will be invited to join

a youth division of Team Psych, called Mighty Mateys. Our

first group ride will take place at the end of January. We will

meet at Lutz Lake Fern, Suncoast Trail-

head. While parents ride, I will lead the

kids on a ride, considering an age appro-

priate pace and distance. We will talk

about ride etiquette, safety and skills de-

velopment.
