A new •Camp t.icQu&icie11 Wb.S provided for t he 250th at a lo-cation approximately ten miles south of the old camp near Capitola. ! longer coast line was avnilable for target practice at the ne~· camp and with the ne equipment mentioned previously, the troops left for °Camp ~cQuaide• July 9, 1938, for a two weeks encampmfnt• The plans provided for tr..rce columns. The gun column under coamand o£ First Li~uten.rmt 'f.'cY C. Jacobs left first, .followed by t he !rain Detachment under Captain C. fi. Saul, uuC. last the truck column le~ by First Lieu-tenant Alfred Virag. The three columna reached CCilllp wiU1out mishap and by 5z.30 P. Ill., camp was e~tablished and each gun was placed. The activities during t..he ance.mpment were about as usual, consisting of' P'J.b-callber practice and ending with regular ser'fice firing. On Wednesday, July 20th, GoTennor .Frank Uerrinm, Command-er-in-Chief of the .National Guard of Call!'ornia., visited the camp. Due to a pre-Tailing fog the Governor ~as unable to aee the reglment in regular t~rcet prac-tice,. A reTiew was held in his honor and it was not disappointing , each unit prov-ing its meri ta to the satia!actiun of the 'guest o! honor. The regiment returned home Saturday July 2.3, leaTing camp &t 6:00 A. M., and arriving home at 2:30 P. K., An all.d custom of the 250th .Regiment has been the roll call of officers end members of the regiment who have nev~r ~ssed & cawp since the regiment wae organized. On November 91 1921, he was prQmoted to Colonel, which rank he held until 19.38, when he was promoted to Brigadier General and pl6ced in command of the 79th Brigade. In December 192.3, Colonel Mittelstaedt wes appointed t.he Adjutant .General of tb.e National Guard of California. for seven years he ·ne~d that position, but never relinquished his co~ of the 250th Coast Artillery. Hie promotion to Brigadier Genere.l resulted in Lieuten-ant Colonel David P. Hardy aesuming CO.IIDI&nd of the regimetlt. On October 221 19.33, he was commissioned Colonel_. Colonel Hardy's military record shows that he enlisted in Compaey D, Fifth Iztfllntry Regiment, April 20, 1914. One year later, June ..3, 1915, ne was elected Second Lieutenant. He serTed with Compeny-D1 o~ the Kexic4n norder in 1916, and on November 16, 1~16, soon after his re-turn froa the :Corder was ele•1ated to the rank of iir'!t !.ieutenant. tie was oro-.oted to Captain, C~ e.;.st .lrtillery Corps, on Decesber .30, 1916 and assigned to ·

    command First Company Coast Artillery. He entered the Federal Service August 5, 1917, with Firet Company. After entering .Federal Service Captain Hardy was sttJ.tioned at Benicia Arsenli.l for a enort time before being sent to t he Coast Artillery School at Fort ilAonroe, Virginia. Ria ability e.s an insj;ru.etor in J.r.athematlcs resulted in his being retained as senior instructor for the duration of the war. At the close of t..':le war Captain Hardy tras transferred to tna Offic-ers Reser-ve Corps with the rWlk of Major. On July 16, 1920, Me.jor !i~rdy was re-commiesioned Captain in the California National uuard 3llu assigned tv com:nand the newly ()rganized First Company, Coast ,; Artiller.Y.
