It has been my privilege to serve for the past three years during a period of change and growth within the National Television Academy. Our membership has grown to engage a new generation of both television professionals as well as aspiring students. In response we have established, with a grant from the Time Warner Foundation, a new AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE for high school

students demonstrating their skills in webcasting as well as broadcasting and cablecasting. The prestigious EMMY will always represent the highest standard of achievement among television professionals. And the DAYTIME EMMY is widely recognized as the ultimate recognition for the many facets of daytime. We salute our telecast partner CBS Television for their extraordinary efforts to energize the event; we congratulate Good Housekeeping magazine for their tribute to the industry; and we thank the Academy in Los Angeles for their collaboration to make the evening such a success.
