It was originally stipulated that 90 employees were going to be retrenched but approximately 300 employees from the local branch who mostly reside within and some w i t h o u t t h e I l e m b e a r e a jurisdiction were blindsided by the move.
In an email to employees, the chief financial officer said that on behalf of the Directors of SA Leisure that despite their best efforts in “recent months to save this business and avoid liquidation, we have run into a dead end, where

“Following the serious fraud that was uncovered by Nedbank in our debtors department, and following which, Nedbank stopping all funds to the business, we have no other choice but to put the business into voluntary liquidation,” said the CFO in the letter to employees who had email access.
The 300 plus employees also learned that SA Leisure could not pay wages and salaries due to them.
An employee was distraught over the way in which he and other employees were shown a lack of respect.
“Management did not even have the decency to call us to gather and address us collectively about the dire situation.”
He also said that workers showed up at 8am at the factory and got their document at 1pm and claimed
that salaries will be paid by liquidators.

National SAPS spokesman Lieutenant General Soloman Makga le sa id tha t he contacted Nyoni police station and they “bear no knowledge of any arrest or search.”

New homes for Groutville residents
By Xpress Reporter
KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) Mayor, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu has re-assured the community of Groutville that Government will continue to deliver decent homes to prioritized groups.

GRATEFUL: Kwazulu-Natal MEC for Public Works and Human Settlements: Ravi Pillay; KDM Mayor: Councillor Ricardo Mthembu and Ilembe District Municipality Deputy Mayor, Councillor
Dolly Shandu speak to one of the beneficiaries
government interventions on human settlements and the delivery of basic services at Thembeni sports field at a m a s s c o m m u n i t y engagement on Sunday, 12 April 2015.
Four orphaned families who lived in bad conditions received comfort as they w e r e w e l c o m e d b y
government into their new home.
An undetermined number of beneficiaries have already taken occupation of over 740 completed houses which are fully fitted with water-born s a n i t a t i o n a n d t a p s connected in their yards. About 900 homes are to be built in total.
One of the beneficiaries, 76-year-old Alpine Masango was sharing a one room s h a c k w i t h h e r 1 4 grandchildren before she received her new house.
“I thought I would die without having my own house. The shack I was staying in was leaking and got flooded every time when
it's raining. Thanks to the government, I'm now a house owner with full furniture,” said an emotional Masango.
The Mayor said that social intolerance affects service delivery in light of the recent xenophobic attacks seen in the province and in some parts of the country saying, this attitude will increase
social polarization and instability in areas where government has committed to develop.
“As government continues to deliver housing facilities to communities, in part, is to ensure that unity, re-integration and co-existence of previously oppressed groups is promoted,” he said.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) occupied land in the Green Fields farm area just outside Ballito on Sunday.
According to EFF KwaZulu-Natal Chairperson, Vukani Ndlovu, his members “and the community from the nea rby a reas a re the re implementing our programme of Land Occupation.”
“Yes we are planning to occupy many vacant lands which are owned
by white monopoly capital without fear or favour, we are showing the government that our people are tired of waiting for the land issue to be resolved.”
Asked if various ethnic groups that participated in the Land Occupation would get land Ndlovu said: “Yes everyone will benefit from the programme.”
Since Sunday there has been reports that the political party was “allegedly offering plots of illegally
claimed land in Ballito in exchange for joining the party.” A shack was erected as well.
Tragically a woman died when hundreds of people descended on vacant land. She was struck by a car while crossing the N2 near the contested piece of land. Two other people were seriously injured.
A case of trespassing is being investigated by the Umhlali South African Police Service ( S A P S ) , a n d t h eowners of the invaded land are said to be considering opening a case of illegal invasion on the land against the Economic Freedom Fighters.

The hospital now specializes in diabetic retinopathy, a leading cause of visual impairment that can be treated if diagnosed early. Studies show that vision can be preserved (saved) in 90 percent of diabetics if laser treatment is done in conjunction with diabetic control.
This is the first time that Stanger Hospital will be offering laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy, which is a condition where the blood vessels of the eye (retina) become damaged and cause bleeding. This leads to blindness if not treated early, hence the need for screening of all patients.
Loss of eye sight has a devastating economic and social impact especially on low income families, usually affecting breadwinners.
We are now able to stop diabetics going blind by performing laser. Initially the pupil is dilated using eye drops. The eye is numbed with drops which contain a local anaesthetic. Next, a contact lens is placed on the eye and the patient faces the laser machine. The light passes through the contact lens and pupil and is directed at the retina.
A person with diabetes is 25 times more likely to go blind than a person in the general population.
Vision 2020 is designed to eliminate avoidable blindness by year 2020 and considers diabetic retinopathy as one of the top priority areas.

CBD in chaotic stateBy Xpress Reporter
It is official folks in that the KwaDukuza Central Business District (CBD) is losing its allure; structural integrity and is hazardous.
According to many citizens who have been complaining to the Xpress Times via telephone and social media over several months the CBD has met decay morally as well.
The need to wax philosophical comes through in the form of German philosopher Immanuel Kant when he said: “All the interests of my reason, speculative as well as practical, combine in the three following questions: 1. What can I know? 2. What ought I to do? 3. What may I hope?”The common thread in all of the KwaDukuza faithful who care about a town formerly known as Stanger lies in the following issues interspersed with social ills:
1. Pavements are overcrowded with informal traders;
2. High level of robberies;3. Sale of drugs;#4. Shop owners displaying goods on the
pavement; 5. Business people operating and living in the
business premises;6. Unkept buildings;7. Illegal electricity connections;8. Storm water issues;9. Conditions of buildings;10. Illegal water connections;11. Contractors not adhering to good practice,
safety and cleanliness and12. Unsafe or open electrical kiosks. The consensus among citizenry is that local
government and the people should carry out an operation in the CBD and follow this operation at regular intervals until the issues are resolved.
The following entities are looked at as being robust in bringing the sought after resolution: KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) Traffic and Crime prevention, EDP, SAPS, Fire department, W a r d c o m m i t t e e m e m b e r s a n d Councillors.
PAVEMENT OVERLOAD: KwaDukuza's fully stocked up vendors using up space that a likely customer frequenting a legitimate business will sidestep
WHERE TO WALK: The congested situation that is found alongside the King Shaka monument leaves people with little space to walk on a busy Saturday especially with regards to a receding pavement as well
Nonoti Drift Siva Soobramoniar Temple: The Moodley family invites you to the 103rd Chitrapurvam Kavady Festival: Flag hoisting: Monday, 27 April 2015 (Havan at 5:30pm); Kavady Festival: Sunday, 3 May 2015 (Devotees expected from 7am); Flag de-hoisting: Tuesday, 5 May 2015. Daily services and bhajans will be conducted from 28 April 2015 to 2 May 2015. The festival will be held at the residence of SR Moodley (Toopan), Nonoti Drift, Darnall. Anything goesDesperate criminals are feeling the
economic squeeze and are stealing anything they lay their hands on. Last week, Felicia Ngema returned home after visiting a friend at 10am and found an unknown youth inside her house. She pushed him back into the house when he attempted to flee but he managed to escape. Her screams attracted neighbours who swiftly apprehended him. A bag containing an extension cord and Savlon soap valued at R175 was recovered and Melusi Ngema (25) will seek bail at his next appearance.
Steeling does not payGood work by hawks Security led to
the arrest of a man who stole three steel poles from a local furniture manufacturer. Sifiso Ngidi alleges that he received a complaint from his office. He drove to the industrial area and spotted a man carrying two steel poles. The man fled but was caught and agreed to show Ngidi the “owner” of the poles. Ngidi arrested Nthuthuko Mlame (28) of Shakaville. He readily accepted that he had stolen the poles and had given his friend two which he intended selling on another day to earn an income. Mlame is due back at court on Thursday, 14 May 2015.

Mayor back from KoreaBy Xpress Reporter
KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) Mayor, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu has committed to comply with the largest coalition of city leaders in dealing with climate change challenges.
He made this commitment at the “ICLEI 2015 World Congress” held in Seoul, South Korea.
Mthembu was amongst 36 leading mayors who have declared their intent to comply to the new Compact of Mayors.
The Compact of Mayors is a global coalition of mayors and city leaders who have pledged to cut greenhouse gas

the Newtown area on 25 February. It has been established that the two workers at the premises had attacked and killed her. The motive was robbery in which several cellphones and two laptops were taken. Acting on a tip-off police arrested Mandlanke Mthetwa (28) of Thembeni. The circumstantial evidence at present is quiet compelling and he has been remanded in custody pending a bail investigation.

was a God-send to Themba Khumalo and his girlfriend. The two were walking home at about 11am when they were accosted and robbed. Khumalo was stabbed several times during the attack. Fortunately for him, the matter was witnessed by Moodley who drove after the culprit and managed to cut him off. However, the desperate culprit attacked Moodley who shot him in the hand and he was finally apprehended and detained. Khumalo's phone was returned to him. Sanele Sibiya (21) has been remanded in custody pending a bail decision.
After hours shoppersMr M Hajaree knew that he had help
when he was attacked and robbed of his cellphone whilst walking to the mosque on Saturday evening. He alleges that he was accosted by three youths who fled with his phone. He gave chase and was assisted by bystanders in apprehending one of the culprits whom they handed over to police. Andile Gumede (24) conceded that he and his friends had come to Stanger CBD with intentions to rob people. He has been remanded in custody pending a bail investigation.
emissions, track progress on climate change and prepare for impacts of gas emissions. It was launched last year at the United Nations Climate Summit. The Compact is also a mechanism of securing funds and support for municipalities from the international community.
It establishes a common platform for mayors to capture the impact of cities' collective actions through consistent, public reporting of their efforts.
“ B e i n g o n e o f t h e f i r s t l o c a l municipalities in the country to pitch for this status is a re-affirmation of our commitment in the fight against climate
change challenges. Our vision statement holds true of our successful interventions on climate challenges of the past. There is a clear indication that we are a progressive city in the making, on our path towards a greener economy.
Mayor Mthembu also signed the D u r b a n a d a p t a t i o n c h a r t e r , committing Council to local climate interventions that will assist KwaDukuza to decisively respond and cope with climate change risks.

In loving memory In loving memory of the late
Roy NaidooRoy Naidoo
Born: 02/07/1954Called to rest : 02/07/2014
We will take this special moment to turn our thoughts to our Dad,Thank him for the home he gave and for all the things we have.We think about the fleeting years, too quickly, gone for good,
It seems like only yesterday, we’d go back if I could,A time when Dad was always there, no matter what the weather.
Always strong when things went wrong, he held our lives together. He strived so hard from day to day and never once complained. With steady hands, he worked so hard and kept the family name. He taught us that hard work pays off, you reap just what you sow.
He said that if you tend your crops, your field will overflow. Our lives has been bountiful he taught us how to give.In his firm and steadfast way, he taught us how to live.
Dad dwells among the angels, now he left us much too soon.He glides across a golden field, above the harvest moon.
We see him in the summer rainHe rides upon the wind and when our part is beaten down,
He picks us up again.Your death will always remain a blurry memory.
But your life will always be a vivid one.The epitome of greatness and sacrifice.
We miss and love you Dad.
Sadly missed by your loving wife Elizabeth (Vani), Children Sean, Dezray, Anton, Sebrina and Sebastian, Grandsons Justin and Jaden, In Laws Mr George and Mrs Doreen Royppen, Sister in

Government must take responsibility for Xenophobic Attacks
Over the past weeks the Durban South region has been catapulted into violence, bloodshed and anarchy as South Africans have b e e n b r u t a l l y m u r d e r i n g foreigners. But what have been the
contributing factors leading to these atrocities? The responsibility falls squarely on the shoulders of our government. Had they not become so lenient with legislation regarding foreigners entering our land, we would not have seen an influx of foreigners in search of a better life in our country. Their severe lack of foresight is the reason why lawlessness prevails in our land and innocent lives are being destroyed.
Leaders on a national level, like the EFF, as well as community leaders such as King Zwelithini who condone such actions of violence against foreigners or who incite South Africans with their words to turn against foreigners, just to garner favour with their constituents should be severely reprimanded with the full arm of the law.
And furthermore why are the government and community l e ade r s so s i l en t on t h i s Xenophobia crisis that we are encountering? Could it be that they don't want to ruffle the feathers of potential voters who are of the misconception that foreigners are taking their jobs? The perpetrators who committed these acts of murder and assault should be punished by the law and not
accommodated with talks and negotiations.
While innocent lives are being lost every day in our nation, our government drags their feet in taking decisive action to put an end to Xenophobia once and for all.
Annet Sewraj
Comments on the EFF's ridiculous land gab programme:
This fiasco in Ballito comes
as a result of a campaign launched by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) on the 6th of April. Basically it is a campaign to claim land without any compensation. Firstly this campaign in itself is illegal because the bill for l a n d c l a i m w i t h o u t compensation has not been approved by parliament. The EFF should be brought to book for this activity because it contravenes the laws of the land and the rights of land owners.
Secondly, the sit-in staged by the EFF on Sunday on private property is definitely
illegal because it is clearly trespassing. They should have been physically removed by police for breaking the law out without the need for a court interdict.
The EFF must not be allowed to operate lawlessly. They must be compelled to subscribe to the laws of the land like all fellow South Africans. They should follow proper procedures if they have a land claim. Government has instituted the Land Claims Court to facilitate such claims so the EFF should not bypass the set channels.

DO DOGS HAVE RIGHTS?
Having pets is great but taking care and looking after them as well as keeping them within an enclosed area is a necessity. I have received many complaints from the Glenhills and Stanger Manor areas recently about the residents not keeping their dogs behind enclosed or fenced area. There has been a lot of incidents were people were attacked by dogs only to concluded that the venue these Dogs came from had the gate open or the vicinity was not fenced. It has now become a major concern. There are a majority of Dog owners who do keep their pets within the house boundaries and in a fenced area, which is commendable. But there a few out there who really need to try to accomplish this goal. We all love to have dogs around us and as the saying goes “a Dog is a man's best friend” but safety of your dog and others must also be taken into consideration.
Also in addition to this saga, residents have also complained that their bin packets full of dirt are being ripped opened by the Dogs in the street they reside in. This is highly due to the fact that some Dog owners are not feeding their pets on time which in return causes havoc for the residents living around. Furthermore putting a chain around a Dogs neck for a long period of time only makes them more vicious when they break out. As for the stray dogs walking in your area, I would suggest that if one observers this over a period of time, they should inform the SPCA.
My humble appeal to those who own Dogs and do not poses an enclosed area to take this matter seriously because there were incidents were school learners were attacked and they could not
attend school for a long period of time.

YCL condemns attacks on foreign nationals
The Young Communist League of South Africa (YCL) in Greater KwaDukuza remembers the late MK chief-of-staff and SACP General Secretary Comrade Chris Hani who was brutally slain by right-wing forces 21 years ago. The YCL shall forever remain indebted to Cde Chris Hani for the work and sacrifice he put in for the liberation of this country from the shackles of backward minority-rule and racial segregation of the black majority.
The YCL remains unsatisfied about the information given by Cde Chris' killers. We want fulldisclosure on what was the real motive behind his assassination, and who were the other role-players into his murder. We believe the removal of Cecil John Rhodes statue from the public area of UCT augurs well with our memories for Cde Chris.
We therefore support that statues of colonial and apartheid figures are removed from the public eye and put in a place where those whom value these statues can voluntarily go for viewing.
However we are not in support of destruction and vandalising of any property despite how we may feel about such property including these statues. Then…
We condemn the attacks on foreign nationals by members of our communities. We are fearful that if these attacks continue they may spread into many parts of the province. The latest wave of attacks around Durban has been linked to utterances made by Isilo Goodwill Zwelithini. We therefore wish to plead with leaders and other public figures to refrain from m a k i n g c o n t r o v e r s i a l a n dambiguous statements which may be wrongly interpreted by the public. We are aware that the motives behind these are not just pure hatred for our African brothers and sisters but rather the social disparities facing our people, including jobless-ness which therefore drive our people to resort to such acts of violence and thuggery.

I WAS SO DESPERATE & DISAPPOINTED
TO LIVE A BETTER HEALTHIER & WEALTHIER LIFE CALL
VINESH 50 years from Verulam, I was having a miserable life for 20 years. I sold my car. I had so many arrears and lost my job. I tried debt counselling and different healers but nothing
was really working, I nearly sold my house but when I was reading journals and newspapers, I saw how RAHMA was
helping people all over the world. Then I booked for an appointment, straight away RAHMA told me my real problems through a unique copper plate. They gave me a special cream and I won at the casino, I managed to pay all my debts arrears
and now I have a big hardware shop. Thanks to RAHMA I am happy.

On behalf of the Democratic Alliance I would like to pay tribute to Helen Zille, who has announced today that she will not seek re-election as Leader of the DA at the Party's Federal Congress next month. When Helen was elected to lead the Democratic Alliance on 6 May 2007, she pledged to build the opposition, govern effectively, grow our party and make it more diverse.
Through her incredible hard work and principled leadership she has more than delivered on these commitments. In the last eight years, the DA has grown from 12% of the national vote to nearly 23% from 1.9 million votes to just over 4 million, an unprecedented growth of 33,7%. Under her leadership the DA stopped the governing party from attaining a two-thirds majority, and we have used our increasing numbers to provide effective opposition in our national Parliament, the Provincial Legislatures and Municipal Councils.
At all times Helen has been a passionate defender of the Constitution and of the inalienable rights it contains for all South Africans. Her fearless protection of the foundations of South Africa's constitutional democracy; the rule of law, the independence of key state institutions, the sanctity of individual rights and freedoms and holding the executive to account has played a material role in ensuring that the DA under her leadership has helped keep democracy alive in our country. It was because of this commitment that she was determined to review the decision to discontinue the prosecution against Jacob Zuma and the decision to appoint Menzi Simelane as the NDPP. The litigation that she initiated established bench-mark precedents in the development of constitutionalism in South Africa.
In 2008, under Helen's direction we announced that we were no longer just a party of opposition but a party of government. This was an important moment in the evolution of the Democratic Alliance. Since then, we have won elections in the City of Cape Town and many other municipalities in the Western Cape, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and Gauteng. And, for the first time, in 2009, we took control of a province, an achievement that was repeated in 2014 with a dramatically increased majority. Helen has an outstanding track record in government. She was voted World Mayor of the year during her tenure as Mayor of Cape Town and her approach based on clean government, hard work and personal responsibility has been an indisputable success. Under her Premiership the Western Cape now has the lowest unemployment rate in the country, the best education and health systems, and the best record for basic service delivery.
Our performance in government has helped us to grow with every election, making the DA the only party since the advent of democracy to do so. As we have grown, Helen has helped ensure that we have diversified our leadership, our membership and our voter base.
Under Helen Zille's leadership we have become the most diverse party in the history of South Africa. We have built new branches in townships and far-flung rural communities. Last year, for the first time, the majority of the DA's support base was drawn from previously disadvantaged South Africans. This is increasingly reflecting itself in our leadership.
Now, more than ever, South Africa needs a strong non-racial party committed to protecting our constitution and eradicating the legacy of apartheid. Every member of our party understands this, which is why they work so incredibly hard to keep us on an upward growth trajectory. Their commitment to do so is a direct result of Helen's unrelenting focus on building the DA and her heartfelt desire to create a genuinely better life for all South Africans.
And as we head towards the local government elections in 2016 the DA is poised to grow our support even more, and to govern new municipalities throughout South Africa and in so doing restore hope for a better future to millions more South Africans through clean, effective and caring government. This is arguably Helen's greatest legacy of all.

Grove End lift Caminamix Easter tournament
Grove End and Warriors Sport provided the perfect end to the Caminamix sponsored Easter T o u r n a m e n t h o s t e d b y t h e KwaDukuza Volleyball Association when they thrilled the huge crowd with some exciting volleyball when they met in the final at the association courts last Thursday. What was expected to be a straight Grove End ended up with a thrill-a-minute display from the young Warriors side who almost caused the biggest up of the year.
Grove End as expected, dominated the first set and stamped their authority racing to a comfortable 25-16 victory.
It was from this point on that had the vociferous spectator base on their feet. Nolen Govender changed tactics and had Grove End in sixes and sevens with his bazooka spikes helping Warriors to a 7-4 lead. Raj Naidoo, Preggie Pillay and Niven Baldeo then combined to draw Grove End level 9-9. The game was evenly matched from here on with Cyprian Thulsiram shining for Grove End whilst John Daniels and Mark Pillay prolific for Warriors. With the score tied at 13-13, Warriors stepped up a gear and went The Easter Champions: Grove End
into a 20-15 lead. Although Baldeo tried desperate best, Grove End were no match for the Sam Pillay and Sherwin Adyappa combination as Warriors levelled the scores 1-1 winning the second set and sending the game into the third and decisive set.
The third set was equally a tense one with Vinnie Singh and SatishBhowanawick helping Grove End to a slender 8-5 to the turnover. Grove End dominated and went on to take a 10-6 lead forcing Warriors into a time out. This seemed to help as Warriors clawed their way back into contention to trail Grove End by just two points. However, Warriors caused the cardinal by serving the ball out at crucial times and this gave Grove End a 15-12 victory.
Earlier, Randsons ensured a podium finish beating Darnall United 25-22, 25-19.
At the prize giving ceremony, President of KDVA, Isaac Abraham, thanked Yaseen Ebrahim, CEO of Caminamix for his generous sponsorship. Grove End waltzed away with a cool R1500, Warriors pocketed R1000, Randsons were R700 richer whilst Darnall United won R500.
