Exit Project ProposalHow Do I Get Started?
Getting Started-Step 10Talk with parents, friends, or teachers and brainstorm ideas
0 Brainstorming worksheet used in Jr. English0Decide on a topic based on your interests and/or abilities
0 Make sure there is a learning STRETCH0Determine how a project could be formed from your
interests0 Organizing an event, learning a skill, giving a performance,
constructing an item, etc.0Write an detailed description of what you think your project
involves (write paragraph on proposal form)0Check which of the four categories your idea falls into
(academic, community service, career, personal growth)0 Can be a combination of these categories
Getting Started—Step 20Determine the potential things needed to complete the
project0 People involved
0Will it take more people than just you and your mentor?0 Resources needed
0Equipment, materials, gas, etc.0 What are the estimated costs involved?
0 Time 0Estimate how many hours you think the project will take to
complete0 Research paper topic
0Determine what research can be done to show a relationship of the paper to the project (this is not a journal of project—it is research)
Getting Started—Step 30Determine who in the community might have the expertise
and skills needed to assist you in completing your project0 Consider the following:
0Does he/she have 2 years of experience in the field, is 21 years old, and not a USD 323 employee or relative (blood, step- or marriage)?
0Will he/she be available to judge your presentation?0Consider travel distance if not a local person
0 Makes face-to-face meetings and getting required signatures more challenging
0Proposed Project Outline0 Detailed, step-by-step process in a logical order needed to
complete the project0Steps to complete just the project not the required paperwork0 If it takes more than 12 steps add another page
Getting Started—Step 40 Contact prospective mentor
0 Initial contact made by phone or face-to-face to set up an appointment to do the necessary interview and paperwork0 You may be turned down—accept it and move on to the next viable option
0 Drop off the brochure ahead of time so the mentor can read it (also on our Exit Project web page on the RCHS website)
0 Interview0 Follow procedures given in the Interview Training Seminar
0Training will be done during advisor period0 Record interview using a digital device (cell phone, recorder)
0 Check out device from Augustine-Stegman0 Discuss in detail how the project will work and how the mentor may be
needed to help you0Discuss lessons/training, demonstration, advice, approval, etc.
0 Additional steps or changes in steps on the rough draft should be discussed
Getting Started—Step 50Does he/she agree to mentor you and what are the terms?
0 What will the mentor be responsible for?0Lessons/training, demonstration, advice, approval, etc.
0 Get ALL NECESSARY contact information (see form)
0Get mentor signature in blue ink0Get parental signature in blue ink0Student signature in blue ink
0 Student e-mail and phone contact number0Transcribe interview
0 Type interview and print0 Save audio/video recording to Exit Folder
0Submit to Augustine-Stegman
Getting Started—Step 60Turn in Proposal/Mentor Confirmation Form properly
filled out0 Attach interview transcription & submit digital interview file
0Submit to your assigned senior advisor by deadline date0 Failure to submit by deadline results in an additional 5
hours being added to the project
Proposal Approval0 The Exit Committee will review all proposals and either
0 Approve as written0 Approve with revisions/suggestions0 Deny approval and schedule a meeting with you to discuss
the reasons the project was not viable0 Upon approval the proposal form will be returned to you
to make revisions0 Retrieve Exit Proposal Form from I: drive Class of 2016 Exit
folder0 TYPE your proposal in final copy format 0 Save as Your Name Proposal in your Exit Project folder0 Do final copy edits of interview transcription and turn in
with revised proposal form0 Submit all proposal forms by deadline date
Take Off!!!0Once the project proposal has been approved and a
final copy has been submitted, you are free to begin working on the project.0 If you make appointments with mentor KEEP THEM!!
0 It reflects badly on you and RCHS to not be responsible
0Any changes to the proposal steps must be approved by the Exit Committee. If you encounter problems with your project, please contact your senior advisor and discuss your options.
