How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks ?

My ancillary task: CD Cover• For my ancillary task, I designed a CD Cover for my music video product. The theme of the music adopted a lot of “trip house” style

along with “psychedelic trap” themes exhibited through electro affected high pitched tones and astral lyrics.• I attempted to portray that profound psychedelic tone through the CD Covers artwork and song names.

• I used simplistic yet opposite shapes and opposing yet simplistic colours (e.g. Squares to Circles & Black to White) to express the conflict in the singers lyrics “Its really out of my control” and “Whatever, I don’t care whatever” are examples of the conflict I’m trying to show through the opposing colours.

• I also tried to express the singers sense of confusion and conflict through the font and style of the title, the double plated font reflect the conflict of thought in the songs lyrics, I also expressed this through the use of two female protagonists. Each reflecting an opposing emotion, one happy and one sad.

However while I did consider and attempt to implement the sense of conflict from the song into the ancillary task, I found that my CD Cover could have exhibited more of a sense of conflict. I found that there was a sense of harmony and synchronization from the CD Cover because of the use of the “Yin & Yang” symbol, however while this was not intentional I found it did assimilate to the main product because while there are themes of conflict, there are themes of tranquility and peace as well, “I'm just floating, like a stain steel sphere” expresses the singers sense of harmony which “Yin & Yang” and ultimately black and white stand for.

CD Cover vs Main Product An criticism of my CD Cover and Main product is there wasn’t much of a comparison between the two, the CD Cover has more of a spiritual atmosphere and I didn’t portray that aspect explicitly in my main product. However while there isn’t an explicit relationship between the two products, there are some connections, for example: - The “Yin & Yang” Symbol has meaningful connotations like self

reflection. I portrayed this through the over the shoulder shots of both female protagonists while they stared off into a distant scenery.

- I also reflected the philosophical nature of the CD cover through the costume an actor wore, a 60’s style hippy jumper.

My ancillary task: Poster Advert • My poster ancillary used the same font and colour

coordination as the CD cover, this was to make it clear that they advertised the same product. I used the same actress as the music video to also portray this. I found that my music video was filmed mostly in parks, so I attempted to portray that through the background of the poster by including a tree.

• I also made sure that the artist was wearing the same costume as seen in the music video to reinforce the relationship between the music video and ancillary product. I found this was an effective angle however I found it could have been more effective if I included the faces of the other actors and actresses involved.
