INTRODUCTION

There is no denying that nowadays cooking can be considered a universal art form and

trying to achieve a fairly good command of this skill within an organized environment while

actually having fun and learning something useful can open doors to manifold stages of evolution.

On this premise we set one of the project targets: to raise students’ awareness about the

importance of leading a healthy life beyond the general desire of looking slim. This is why the

students taking part in the Erasmus+ project attended various workshops designed to boost their

cookery knowledge and skills in addition to highlighting the impact of intelligent eating as opposed

to unconscious dieting.

There is clear evidence to suggest that over the years the idea of following a healthy diet

has become an important trend in celebrities’ life and teenagers should not be the exception. While

it is common knowledge that theoretically society encourages people towards a healthy lifestyle, in

practice there is still much scope for improvement in terms of finding a balanced diet.

The hustle and bustle of today’s society has reached such a point that it actually calls for

quite a genuine competence in mastering healthy eating habits owing to the constant bombarding of

fast food and unhealthy products. That is why we thought it would be useful to devise a booklet

which would provide youngsters with the possibility of having quick and easy access to a few

international healthy dishes which can be prepared both fast and easily in the comfort of their own

home without spending too much money.

The present booklet is divided into 4 sections that present a short selection of traditional

recipes from Greek, Spanish, German, French and Romanian cuisine, all of which are aimed to

arouse interest in the importance of healthy eating, the benefits of home-made food and last but not

least, the advantages of gaining an insight into the secrets of international cuisine.

CONCLUSIONS

Throughout the cooking workshops, the students who took part in the Erasmus+ project

discovered that there are many types of healthy food and different ways to prepare it.

We would like to place emphasis on the fact that direct involvement in the cooking

activities enabled the youngsters to gain valuable insight into what healthy eating represents and

ensured that an increasing number of students showed an interest in reshaping eating habits and

trying to cook foods which are typical of other cultures.

We consider that both parents and teachers should foster the acquisition of knowledge about

adequate nutrition and the development of cooking skills within extra-curricular activities from an

early age. What really counts for teenagers is not only being informed or knowing what they should

eat, but benefitting from hands-on experience in actually preparing different recipes from distinct

cultures and finding what best suits their body.

In order to satisfy the need for personal success in a rushed global society, prone to diverse

illnesses and misleading advertising campaigns, it also seems appropriate to place emphasis on the

importance of approaching students’ education from a food-oriented perspective if we want the

kids and teenagers of today to be the healthy adults of tomorrow. This can only be achieved by

getting them actively involved in both the purchase and preparation of their meals.

To conclude, the main concept to which we dedicated the cooking workshops and this short

booklet which gathers a selection of multicultural recipes revolves around the firm belief that it is

essential to promote healthy eating among youngsters and help them understand the importance of

following a balanced diet for a happy life.
