THE FUNCTION OF MURAL ART
The mural painting in the cities, as a kind of visual arts, which is in the public environment
and enjoyed by the public, actively participates in constructing the current city. Its function in the city life is irreplaceable by other kinds of
visual arts.
Ernest Zacharevic ,26 years old
A young Lithuania-born artist who is "making a scene" on the streets of George Town, Penang. This comes in the form of
beautifully executed wall paintings, or murals, at selected streets in the inner
city. The project, known as Mirrors George Town, is part of George Town Festival
2012. Lithuaninan native who studied his way through life, but discovered street art and is now rather permanently based in
Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia. He started out young, scribbling with crayons on his dad’s newspaper, which then transformed into art school in his hometown, Vilnius,
Lithuania.

LOUIS GAN Louis Gan is a freelance artist. He obtained
a diploma in Graphic Design from KDU College in Penang. He is also one of the
most remarkable Malaysian artist because of his willpower and determination despite having hearing and speech disabilities. He
was born deaf because his mother had German measles when she conceived him.
He never took art lessons but pick up drawing skills by watching videos and
trying to paint on the canvas. His favourite medium is acrylic paint and watercolour.
Louis also did several mural paintings recently, such as the Red Old Building, the Deep Sea and more. Among his favourite
artists are very well established Ch’ng Kiah Kiean, Khoo Cheang Jin and the renowned
American caricature artist, Jason Seiler.

Kenji ChaiKenji Chai was born and raised in the
city of simplicity, Sandakan, Sabah and currently lives in Kuala Lumpur.
He was bred on comics, cartoons and storybooks from an early age and
spent his days rummaging into these worlds of imagination. His works
includes the use of cute and vibrant characters with his main medium
being graffiti combining elements of pop culture, fictional censorship, and
a positive mental attitude, in all he creates layered scenes of mischief!
