2. Narrative of Progress/tasks started and/or completed this reporting period

A. West Maui Mountains Watershed Partnership (WMMWP) – Honolua

• The YSI sonde and the rain gauge were checked to download data and install new

batteries on 10/1/13, 11/4/13, 12/2/13, and 12/31/13.

• Five base flow samples were collected on 10/1/13, 11/4/13, 11/12/13, 12/2/13, and

12/31/13.

• Two storm samples (both low level) were collected on 11/12/13 and 12/31/13.

• 7 water samples (4 base flow and 3 storm) were sent to UH Hilo Lab on 12/3/13 to be

analyzed for NO2+NO3, TN, TOC, TP, and TSS (as shown below):

B. East Maui Watershed Partnership (EMWP) – Hana

• The YSI sonde and the rain gauge were checked to download data and install new

batteries on 10/11/13, 11/18/13, and 12/13/13

• Three base flow samples were collected on 10/11/13, 11/18/13, and 12/13/13

• Next monthly trip to the Hana site 1/17/14 will conclude the year of baseline monitoring

and start the six-month post-monitoring period which will end in July’14.

3. Major Issues/Problems

The Hana site has still not been able to recover any storm samples within the

permissible 24-48 hour timeframe after the high flow because of the extremely remote

nature of the project site and an inability to predict high stream flows with current

technology on-site.

4. Significant findings or conclusions

No findings of significance or any conclusions available at this time.

5. Tasks expected to be completed next quarter

The Hana site plans to make significant progress collecting baseline data next quarter.

• The YSI Sonde will continue collecting data through June’14 and a year of

baseline data is scheduled to be completed on January 17, 2014.
