FAQ – Frequent ly Asked Questions When do I register?Most classes fill up fast, so don’t wait too long. For most programs, registration will stay open until one week prior to the start date, unless the program is already full.

What is your cancellation policy?Programs, activities, special events, and festivals that are canceled, postponed, or changed in location will be announced as soon as possible. Please check our Facebook, Twitter and website at www.waukee.org for updates.

What is your photo policy?Photos taken of participants and guests in programs, activities, special events and festivals may be used in promotional materials, press releases and on the City of Waukee’s website and social media. Do you send program reminders?Please mark your calendar after signing up for a program. The City of Waukee Parks and Recreation Department does not send program confirmations or reminders to individual participants.

What is your refund policy?Refund requests must be made prior to the first day of the start of the program. A $5 nonrefundable handling fee will be deducted from the refund when an enrollee withdraws prior to the first day of class. Once the first day of class begins, refunds are not issued unless the class or program is canceled by the City of Waukee Parks and Recreation Department. Refunds will be issued by check if original payment was made by check or cash. If payment was made Online with a credit card, then credit will be put back on to the card. Please allow two to four weeks for refunds to be processed.

Haunted House 2014The Waukee Park Board will sponsor a Haunted House at the Centennial Park Enclosed Shelter house on both Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25. Enter if you dare, but be prepared to be scared. Paint-a-Pumpkin or Create-a-CarvingHelp your child create a spooky Jack-o’-lantern without the mess in your kitchen. After their creation is complete, we will take a picture and enter it into our Pumpkin Contest. Spine-chilling snacks and devilish drinks will be provided. WinterFest 2014Santa Claus is coming to Waukee! Come visit Santa and tell him what you want for Christmas and warm up with hot cocoa, hot cider and cookies. “Plant Some Shade” Tree ProgramWaukee is proud to partner with MidAmerican Energy and the Iowa DNR to offer the “Plant Some Shade” program. The program allows MidAmerican Energy Company customers in Iowa to purchase up to two trees for just $30 each, with the remaining cost funded through a grant from MidAmerican Energy. Waukee is now one of only 11 communities in Iowa who are providing this service and any MidAmerican Energy customer can participate. Parent and Child BlastballNot quite sure if your child is ready for T-ball? This is a chance for your child to learn the game of baseball and softball with the comfort of you as their partner. Each participant will do the drills with a parent and parents will participate in most activities.

Youth Basketball ClinicThis is an introductory clinic to teach young participants the basic skills and rules of basketball along with practicing sportsmanship. 2015 Girls Recreational Softball LeagueWaukee Parks and Recreation offers a recreational girls softball league and girls from Kindergarten through 8th Grade are eligible to play. We separate participants into five separate leagues. The season will run from the middle of April through the first week of June. Online registration begins December 1, 2014, and ends February 17, 2015. Register your daughter for the grade they are currently in for the 2014-2015 school year. Please call the Waukee Parks and Recreation Department with any questions about the upcoming season. Adult Coed Indoor Volleyball LeagueWaukee Parks and Recreation will be offering one indoor coed volleyball season Sunday afternoons at Waukee Middle School. Litt le Ninjas This early childhood program teaches the basic fundamentals of Taekwondo and Karate in a developmentally appropriate format to suit young children. The class will focus on building proper use of martial arts, self-respect, self-discipline and coordination of mind and body. The instructor, Dickey Renshi, has been teaching martial arts for more than 25 years and is an early childhood elementary school teacher. He is also a three-time inductee into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Class length is 30 minutes and sessions are ongoing throughout the year. Bricks 4 Kidz® Building Series At Bricks 4 Kidz® after school and evening classes, students build models and simple motorized machines in a wide variety of themes using LEGO® basic and technic bricks. With our signature kits and model plans, a different model is built in each hour-long class and a variety of themes are offered throughout the year. Educational benefits include problem solving, early engineering and architectural concepts. Bricks 4 Kidz® believes that kids learn best when engaging in activities that they enjoy. Who says physics is boring? Test out Sir Isaac Newton’s Laws of Motion with models that help illustrate concepts like force and acceler-ation. During this unit, kids will launch LEGO® bricks with the catapult model, give their mini-figures a ride on motorized see-saw and swing-o-rama rides, and even build a push or mechanized lawn mower model.

Winter Session 1

November 13–December 11 “Factory Fun”Have you ever wanted to operate the big machines in a factory? Come build kid-sized versions of these clever creations. Models include a scissor lift, various conveyor belts and even a robot! You’ll learn engineering challenges involved in machine design and perhaps be inspired to design your own.

WinterSession 2

February 5–26 “Forces of Nature”Fasten your seat belts; we’re in for some wild weather! This unit is all about the amazing and powerful forces of nature experienced around the world. Each model represents the motion of that particular weather event, with a seat for a mini-figure to take in the action.

Tot LotRomp, stomp and play! We have the setup to meet your children’s activity and social needs this fall and winter. With toddler toys ranging from blocks to tunnels and mats, there’s no shortage of action here. We provide the fun, parents provide the supervision in this open gym for toddlers where kids love to play and parents get to socialize with one another. This is a non-structured activity. Seven Oaks Boone Ski Trip Students can spend a full day skiing at Seven Oaks in Boone, Iowa. We will enjoy lots of skiing and a mini lesson. Participants must dress warmly. Game time is noon; the charter bus will depart early Sunday morning. There will be one stop for restrooms and food each way and travelers are welcome to bring food and beverag-es on the bus. Senior Social and BINGOCome join the Plus 50 Club for our monthly social meals catered by the Waukee Fareway. The social is held at the Waukee Community Center at 675 Walnut Street at noon on the first Friday of each month. The cost to attend is $4 (includes meal and Plus 50 Club donation). Enjoy sensational talent from area dancers, singers and performers. Take a tour of the world-famous, historic covered bridges, and enjoy a stunning display of handmade quilts. Inside the 2,800 square-foot building is a refrigerator, sink, microwave, oven and warming drawer. Ridge Pointe Park Pavilion......655 SE Legacy Pointe Boulevard The Ridge Pointe Pavilion sits on a 21-acre park with a covered concrete patio overlooking the park. Inside the 660 square-foot pavilion is a refrigerator, sink, and microwave along with restrooms that are shared with park users. The Pavilion has six round tables and two rectangle tables, two charcoal grills, and is heated, making it available during the winter as well. The pavilion is ideal for graduation parties or small celebrations.Rental fee: $65 fee/$150 deposit

Centennial Park Enclosed Shelter..............1255 S. Warrior LaneThe enclosed shelter is located on the southwest corner of Centennial Park with a playground and restrooms nearby. The shelter has a small deck overlooking the park and a charcoal grilling area. Inside the shelter are 12 picnic tables. The shelter does not have heating or air-conditioning and is available to rent April 1–October 13.Rental fee: $40 fee/no deposit

Centennial Park Open-Air Shelter..............1255 S. Warrior LaneThe open-air shelter is in the heart of Centennial Park and is surrounded by an open grass area, a disc golf course, ball fields, playgrounds and restrooms. The shelter has 11 picnic tables and two charcoal grills. This shelter is available to rent April 1–October 31. Rental fee: $25 fee/no deposit

Windfield Park Open-Air Shelter..............114 Windfield ParkwayThe open-air shelter sits in the middle of the Windfield neighborhood on five acres of open grass areas with a ball field, backstop and two playgrounds nearby. There are 10 picnic tables and two charcoal grills at the shelter. This shelter is available to rent April 1–October 31. Rental fee: $25/no deposit

City of Waukee Facility Rental PoliciesWaukee Community CenterReservations can be made one year in advance of the reservation date. Reservations are confirmed when completed form and deposit are returned to the Parks and Recreation Department. Payment for the center needs to be received at least one week prior to the reserved date. A Parks and Recreation staff member will unlock the center at your reserved time. Ridge Pointe Pavilion, Centennial Enclosed and Open Shelters and Windfield ShelterWeekend shelter rentals can be reserved six months in advance of the reservation date. Weekday shelter rentals can also be reserved in advance; however, weekday reservations are not accepted until after March 1 for the months of March–July and after August 1 for the months of August–February. Reservations are confirmed when completed form, payment and deposit are returned to the Parks and Recreation Department. Keys, if applicable, can be picked up the week of the reservation.

The 33-acre park is equipped with two sand volleyball courts, three ball diamonds, a 12-hole disc golf course, three playgrounds, one basketball court, a creek, a covered bridge, one open shelter and one enclosed shelter. There is plenty of open green space for playing soccer or enjoying a picnic with your family. Centennial Park has it all!
