(from page 16) secretly and left the houseof Daw Aung San Suu Kyiin the restricted area. Underthe responsibility, we hadto interrogate Mr JohnWilliam Yettaw, DawAung San Suu Kyi, DawKhin Khin Win and MaWin Ma Ma and searchedthe house. Here, I wouldlike to brief you diplomatsand journalists on theinformation we havediscovered in examininghim, and findings.

At first, I would like togive a brief account of theevent we arrested him. Asyou know, at about 5.40am on 6 May 2009, securityforces found a suspiciousforeigner swimming witha rucksack and two 5-literempty bottles in Inya Lake,

about 50 yards from oldKanthaya hospital, andabout 30 yards from theresidence of the UScharge´ d' affaires. Thesecurity members werethose on duty from No (7)Police Battalion that isstationed in the compoundof the old hospital for se-curity of the perimeter ofthe house of Daw Aung

San Suu Kyi.After calling in and

investigating theforeigner, the securitymembers found out thathe was Mr John WilliamYettaw and seized 21items of his belongingsincluding two rucksacks,a camera and six memorycards. Now, you can studythe list of the items on the

board. After examiningthe camera, we found outsome photos taken in thehouse of Daw Aung SanSuu Kyi, and his photostaken in the house withhousehold things in thebackground. So, we heldhim detention and theninvestigated him andseized things.

According to theinvestigation, Mr JohnWilliam Yettaw arrivedat Yangon on 2 May 2009,and put up at Beauty LandHotel (2) at 188/192 on33rd Street, Ward (1),Kyauktada Township. On3 May evening, he enteredthe house of Daw AungSan Suu Kyi through InyaLake and left the houseon 5 May.He stayed atDaw Aung San Suu Kyi’shouse from about 4 am on4-5-2009 to over 11 pmon 5-5-2009 and tookphotos of inside the houseand its surroundings. Af-

ter Mr John WilliamYettaw came out of herhouse swimming after 11pm on 5-5-2009, he wasarrested by security guardson 6-5-2009 morning.

Management and WorldReligions. Now he is do-ing a part-time doctoralcourse and working as atour operator in US tour-ism. Overall, he is foundto be an educated persondoing a PhD (Psychology)course. Moreover, he wasclearly found to be a Viet-nam War veteran.

According to the con-fession of Mr Yettaw, hehad entered the com-pound of Daw Aung SanSuu Kyi's house for twotimes including thepresent one. Before hesecretly entered DawAung San Suu Kyi’shouse for the first time,he visited Thailand fromSeptember to October2008. During his stay inThailand, he visitedMaetaw clinic in Maesotfor ten times. He also metwith Bo Kyi of AAPP andothers. According to reli-

able information, it isknown that he also metwith unlawful organiza-tions and persons fromthose organizations – WaiLin of Lu Baung Thit, MinNaing of ABSFU-FAC,Zaw Tun, Teik Naing ofAAPP – that are oppos-ing the government inMaesot. Moreover, hevisited Chaing Mai wherehe stayed at FAC-ForeignAffair Council office un-der the arrangement of DrNaing Aung. He also metwith Zin Maung, KyawWin and Aung Din.

With a tourist visa MrYettaw arrived in Yangonand stayed in the city for26 days from 7-11-2008to 3-12-2008. While inYangon on 30-11-2008, heleft the hotel at about 2100hours and went to the cor-

ner of the University Av-enue and Inya MyaingRoad after taking No 52bus. From there, hewalked on and on reach-ing the drainpipe near theEmbassy of Republic ofKorea, he headed for theInya Lake along the pipe.It was found out that wear-ing a black dress and ablack hat, he got across asection of Inya Lake toreach the house of DawAung San Suu Kyi. Heentered the compound ofthe house after climbingover the fence in the backof the house.

According to thestatement of Mr Yettaw, before leaving the househe left behind a book ti-tled Book of Mormonwhich he had brought ina waterproof bag at thestep near the back door ofthe house for Daw AungSan Suu Kyi to read it.He said he swam back

and left the place alongthe pipe near the Embassyof Republic of Korea. Itis the incident in whichMr Yettaw entered DawAung San Suu Kyi’shouse for the first time. The chart showing theentry and exit routes usedby Mr Yettaw during hisfirst intrusion can be seenon the board.

What I would like allto notice here is the factthat Mr Yettaw took thesame route in going to thehouse and coming backfrom it. The first intru-sion of the house tookplace on 30-11-2008which was the 3rd waxingday of Myanmar monthof Nadaw. So, it was adark night. Despite thedarkness, he managed touse the same route to the

house and from it. Wemay observe that theroute was the shortest andthe safest for him. MrYettaw, therefore, is in-telligent and a man ofhigh reasoning power. Hecannot be a maniac ormentally deficient personas described by some for-eign media and opposinggroups.

When Daw AungSan Suu Kyi told Dr TinMyo Win about the inci-dent, the latter reportedthe matter to the respec-tive security unit in writ-ing on 4-12-2008. Thereport said that Daw KhinKhin Win and her daugh-ter saw a man entered thecompound from the lakeand approaching thehouse around themidnight of 30 Novem-ber; that when he arrivednear the house he called“Daw Aung San SuuKyi” aloud for two times

from outside the house;that he was shouting nearthe kitchen at the back ofthe house; that later heknelt down putting his

palms together; that soonhe left the compoundclimbing the fence near atree stump and went intothe lake again.

On receipt of the re-port, the authoritiesformed an investigationcommittee to ascertain thefacts. Moreover, the No 1police battalion under thecommand of Pol Lt-ColZaw Khin Aung took overthe security duty from No6 police battalion com-manded by Pol Lt-ColZaw Naing Tun on 5-12-2008 to carry out the dutywith greater care. Further-more, inspections and re-pairs were made to fencesfacing the Inya Lake andentrances immediately.

The investigationcourt singled out the find-ings as follows:

Point No 1: Dr TinMyo Win reported the in-cident to the authoritiesfour days after the intru-sion of Mr Yettaw. Sotraces of the entry anddeparture disappeared. No clues were left.

Point No 2: DawAung San Suu Kyi hadreceived the firm evi-

dence but she failed toreport it. That was thebook titled Book of Mor-mon left near the backdoor by Mr Yettaw. SinceDaw Aung San Suu Kyiwithheld the matter of thebook, the authoritiesfound it difficult to ascer-tain the intrusion into thehouse compound. Afterthe intrusion of the housecompound for the secondtime and the arrest of MrYettaw, Daw Aung SanSuu Kyi handed the bookto the investigation teamfollowing the statementof Mr Yettaw about thebook.

Point No 3: DawAung San Suu Kyi shouldhave reported the intru-sion to the security mem-bers directly and imme-diately but it was in-formed to the authoritieson 4-12-2008, four daysafter the incident throughDr Tin Myo Win. So,clues could not be tracedand the truth could not beascertained. We may ob-serve that Daw Aung SanSuu Kyi herself was weakto cooperate for her ownsecurity.

The investigationcourt concluded that sincethe incident took place ina dark night, the intrudermight have been mistakenby Daw Khin Khin Winand her daughter, or theymight have seen one ofthe security memberspassing through the com-pound. In this connection, there is reason. Some-where around 1990, a se-curity members tried topeep into the house ofDaw Aung San Suu Kyi.He was punished. The in-vestigation team there-fore concluded that thematter was only the as-sumptions of Daw KhinKhin Win and her daugh-ter and that there was nopossibility of seeing anintruder. However, secu-rity officers did their bestfor security. I have saidthat earlier. All I haveexplained aforesaid arethe facts concerning MrYettaw's first intrusion.

We have formed aninvestigation group, andthe group is now makinginvestigation into the caseof Mr Yettaw’s secret

(from page 9)intrusion into the house ofDaw Aung San Suu Kyifor the second time. In thatregard, we will have to takeaction against the personsresponsible for the case.

Now, I would like toexplain Mr Yettaw’sentering the house of DawAung San Suu Kyi for thesecond time. Mr Yettawarrived in Yangon viaThailand on a tourist visaon 2 May 2009 and he putup at the Beauty LandHotel 2 at 188/192, 33rd

Street, ward 1, KyauktadaTownship. On 3 Mayevening (the exact time isyet to be confirmed), hewent to University Avenueby taxi from the BeautyLand Hotel. He got intoInya Lake through thedrainpipe near theEmbassy of the Republicof Korea on UniversityAvenue, and he swamtowards the house of DawAung San Suu Kyi. He gotinto the compound of thehouse through thebackyard. The route hetook is the same as that hehad taken to enter the houseof Daw Aung San Suu Kyifor the first time on 30November 2008.

At the court, Mr

Yettaw stated that beforedawn on 4 May 2009, hegot into the house, and metwith Daw Khin Khin Winand Ma Win Ma Ma. Hesaid that he had diabetes;that he was exhausted andhungry because of the longswim and he had a fever;that he was served mealswith the permission of DawAung San Suu Kyi; that on5 May 2009, he stayed nearthe toilet-attachedbathroom on the groundfloor the whole day; andthat he presented DawAung San Suu Kyi about

53 sheets each saying “Ilove you. Please don’t killher” written by his 10-year-old daughter.

Moreover, Daw AungSan Suu Kyi offered MrYettaw a lot of drinkingwater bottles and food, buthe refused to take them. Then, Daw Aung San SuuKyi persuaded him to havesome food in order to keephimself fit. She served himmeals. After 11 pm on 5May 2009, he left the houseof Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.That time, he chosedifferent route to leave thehouse. He swam acrossInya Lake. The place he

was arrested by securitymembers on 6 May 2009is about 3000 yards fromthe house of Daw AungSan Suu Kyi. The route istoo long and unsafe one,but he did take that routeto leave the house. Whatpuzzles us is why MrYettaw chose that route toleave the house.

In the first time on 30November 2008, MrYettaw got into Inya Lakethrough the drainpipe nearthe ROK embassy onUniversity Avenue andentered the house of Daw

Aung San Suu Kyi. Andhe left the house safe andsound, taking the sameroute. In the second time,he took the same routeagain in secretly enteringthe house. The route is theone he recognized well, aswell as the shortest andthe safest one. However, when he left the house, hetook the different route thathe might be arrestedinstead of the previousroute to leave the house. So, it is strange that hechose an unsafe route. It isalso food for thought.

Logically, a thief, adacoit or a murderer gives

first priority to his escapeand security aftercommitting a crime. However, Mr Yettawchose the unsafe, over3000 yards long routeacross Inya Lake, insteadof usual route that was safefor his escape and security.Isn't it strange? Can't wededuce that he incited thisproblem deliberately? Inaddition, we have to thinkthat if there are any ac-complices.

Those who do notagree with this commentmay argue and complain

that Mr Yettaw did not re-member the usual way andtook a wrong way becauseit was dark when he leftthe house at night on 5May 2009. But, the 5thMay was the 12th Waxingof Kason of Myanmar Cal-endar. It was close to fullmoon day, so the moon-light of the night was nearlyas bright as that of fullmoon day.

In the first time, the30th November was the 3rd

Waxing of Nadaw, so itwas a dark night and themoonlight was so dim. But, he could take the rightway to leave the house. In

the second time, the moon-light was well brighterthan that in the first time,so no doubt he couldchoose the right way. Hehad used the way threetimes — two to enter andone to leave the house. So, it was not difficult atall for him to take thatway for the fourth time toleave the house. We candeduce that there is no rea-son he could not remem-ber the way.

According to MrYettaw’s statements, when he arrived in the

house of Daw Aung SanSuu Kyi on the morning of4 May, he was exhausted, feeble and almostparalyzed and his leg mus-cles were seized withcramps seriously. He hasdiabetes, so at that time hesuffered from a fall inblood sugar. But the medi-cal checkups after his ar-rest do not show that hehas such illnesses. Theremust be a strong reasonwhy such a sick personchose a long way insteadof short, safe way he hadused three times. Thosewho know that may be hehimself and related per-

sons and organizations.Mr Yettaw was ar-

rested in the water of InyaLake on 6 May 2009morning, about 30 yardsfrom the residence of theCharge d' Affaires of theUS Embassy, and about50 yards from oldKanthaya hospital wheresecurity members werestationed. Near the resi-dence of the US Charge d'Affaires was old Kanthayahospital where membersof Police Battalion (7)were deployed for securityof the perimeter. The chart

showing his entry and exitroutes during his secondintrusion can be seen onthe board.

When he was foundin the water, he was ar-rested with 21 items ofhis belongings includinga camera and six memorycards. Two of the sixmemory cards feature 331photos and a folder ofdocumentary video heshot.

The photos include anenlarged photo of a pairof flippers, photos of proc-ess of assembling flippers,a photo of Mr Yettaw indisguise, a photo of theliving room on the groundfloor of Daw Aung SanSuu Kyi’s house, and pho-tos of the photos hangedto decorate the livingroom.

Apart from them, there are a photo of MrYettaw on arrival at thehouse of Daw Aung SanSuu Kyi at night, and adocumentary photo of MrYettaw in the house.

According to MrYettaw's statement, au-thorities concerned on 6May confiscated MrYettaw's belongings in aroom called "Diamond"on the fifth floor of BeautyLand Hotel where hestayed. They confiscated61 kinds of items. The listof the item is on the board.

Similarly, on 7 May,the authorities concernedconfiscated the gifts thatMr Yettaw gave to DawAung San Suu Kyi. DawAung San Suu Kyi handedover 22 items togetherwith search form to theauthorities concerned.

Love Convenants”20. One book in English entitled “ Bible Dictionary”21. One book in English entitled “Topical Guide”22. One paper bag stuffed with pieces of paper

According to the state-ment of Mr Yettaw he leftthe Book of Mormon onthe step outside the back-door while entering thecompound of Daw AungSan Suu Kyi's house. It wasnot included in the itemshanded over by Daw AungSan Suu Kyi. But theauthorities concerned hadalready known about thebook according to MrYettaw's statement. Onlywhen authorities concernedasked Daw Aung San SuuKyi whether she had thebook presented to her byMr Yettaw, she said that areligious book was left tobe handed over. And shebrought the book whichwas on the altar on theupstairs and handed it tothe authorities concerned. When Daw Aung San SuuKyi presented a reportthrough Dr Tin Myo Winsaying that a man secretlyentered the compound ofher house on 30-11-2008,she failed to report that theperson left behind the book.Hence, the MyanmarPolice Force was not ableto expose the truth in in-

vestigating the case. Thelist of the items is on theboard.

The 23 items confis-cated on that day includedtwo chadors usually wornby Muslim women, twolong skirts, two blackscarves, three pairs of sun-glasses and one red torch.Daw Aung San Suu Kyisaid that she was responsi-ble for the items and signedin the search form. Con-cerning the confiscateditems, she told that theywere given to her by MrYettaw as souvenirs.

According to the reportreleased by the court, whentwo well-known ladieswore the chadors usuallyworn by Muslim women, long skirts, black scarvesand sunglasses in the court, the two could not beidentified.

Mr Yettaw is aChristian and Daw AungSan Suu Kyi is a Buddhist.Normally souvenirsexchanged between aChristian and a Buddhistmay be a bible, a Cross, aBuddha statue, beads orother gifts that represent the

religions concerned. But wehave found out that the giftswere Muslim chadors thathave no concern with MrYettaw a Christian and DawAung San Suu Kyi aBuddhist. It is food forthought.

According to hisstatements saying that hestayed at Daw Aung SanSuu Kyi’s residence for twodays and had meals andfood, the authority went tothe residence and seized hispossessions and items on12 May to provide evidenceof his stay at the residence.Eleven items were seizedduring the search. WhenDaw Aung San Suu Kyigave those items to theauthority, she said the itemswere used by the foreignerduring his stay in her home. The list of the items is puton board. Those items in-clude one pillow, one whiteplate, one set of fork and

spoon, four towels, twolongies and one T-shirt.Only three women had beenliving at the residence formany years.

Legal cases are openedagainst Daw Aung San SuuKyi, her two accomplicesand Mr Yettaw. Daw AungSan Suu Kyi is beingaccommodated at theofficers' residence of theMyanmar CorrectionalDepartment. The chiefmedical officer and doctorsof the MyanmarCorrectional Departmentare closely providing healthcare to her daily. Generalpractitioners and cardiacspecialists of YangonGeneral Hospital are alsoproviding health care to her.Arrangements are beingmade for everyconvenience of Daw AungSan Suu Kyi. She is in goodhealth.

Mr Yettaw isaccommodated at a privateroom of the Insein jail hos-

pital. Arrangements havebeen made for his everyconvenience. As Mr Yettawdoes not eat food, medi-cines, purified water andmineral salt are being givento him as nutrients. A solu-tion of D-protein andAstymin are being given tohim. Arrangements arebeing made for him to beable to take dissolving tab-

lets. Health personnel aremaking medical checkupon him and providing 24-hour health care. He ismentally and physicallyhealthy and strong. Twophotos comparing thehealth condition of MrYettaw before and afterthe arrest can be found onthe board.

According to the for-eign media and his state-ments in the court, he isvery poor that the churchhad to undertake his son'sfuneral as he could notbear the expenses. Butaccording to examina-tions, we have found thathe can visit Myanmar fromUS taking a long flight fortwo times spending a lotof money.

Moreover, we havefound out that he was ableto stay in Thailand formany days in September,October and November2008. So his travel, foodand accommodation ex-

penses will be rather big.On 7 November 2008, hearrived in Yangon fromBangkok. He stayed inYangon till 3 December.During his last visit toYangon on 2 May, hecame via Bangkok. Ac-cording to his visa, hecould stay up to 30 May.Mr Yettaw, who has nopermanent job and regu-

lar income and who is poorcould stay in Myanmarand Thailand for monthsat a huge expenditure. So,the financial sources forhis expenses and the pos-sible persons or organiza-tions that are supportingfrom behind the sceneshave become food forthought.

Being responsible forsecurity, prevalence ofcommunity peace andtranquillity and law andorder, Myanmar PoliceForce investigated Mr.John William Yettaw,Daw Aung San Suu Kyi,Daw Khin Khin Win andMa Win Ma Ma and filedlaw suits against them.

Out of findings of theauthority, facts and itemsrelated to Mr. Yettaw arebeing displayed at thepress conference.

As I have already said, you all know that who Mr.Yettaw is, what he did, what problems arose and

how the image of thecountry damaged.

In reality, the rootcause of this case is theUS citizen Mr JohnWilliam Yettaw whocame from a farawaycountry to Myanmar andhatched and realized theplot. It is crystal clear andundeniable that he is thekey player in this case. There may be persons whoare controlling MrYettaw, directing thescheme and providing fi-

nancial assistance to him.We are still trying to ex-pose those persons and theorganizations they repre-sent. Anyhow, Mr Yettawis the main person whobroke the law and com-mitted the crime.

Daw Aung San SuuKyi, Daw Khin Khin Winand Ma Win Ma Ma havealso connections with thecase. So, they all are ontrial in accord with the law.Regarding matters of se-curity, the cooperation ofthose who is provided withsecurity is as responsibleas the duty of securityguards for their security.

Today, as some em-bassies asked the author-ity to provide more secu-rity to the embassies oc-casionally, the authoritywill provide security tothem and those who askproviding more securityare to fully cooperate withthe authority.

Questions and answers at press conference onUS citizen Mr John William Yettaw’s secretly

entering house of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

YANGON, 25 June—The following are thequestions raised by thejournalists and the answersgiven by Chief ofMyanmar Police ForceBrig-Gen Khin Yi at thepress conference on UScitizen Mr John WilliamYettaw’s secretly enteringthe house of Daw AungSan Suu Kyi.

U Hla Htwe (NikkeiShimbun)Q: Which organization

was aiding Mr JohnWilliam Yettaw, CIAof the US or anti-Myanmar govern-ment groups? And Iwould like to know ifDr Naing Aung usedto be the chairman ofABSDF.

A: That is still underinvestigation. I don’tthink I should give aspecific answer in thisregard, but I wouldlike to say somethingabout him accordingto the information wehave got. Mr Yettawis a US citizen as wellas a member ofMormon church. Before enteringMyanmar, he heldtalks with anti-government groups inborder areas. We haveto take that intoconsideration to find

out who he is. DrNaing Aung is fromNCUB.

U Myat Khaing(Snapshot Journal)Q: According to your

clarifications, MrYettaw seems to befamiliar with the area. So, do you think hehas entered the housemore than two times? He is a war veteran aswell as an educatedperson. What do youthink about hisviolation of ourcountry’s lawalthough he knew thathe may be arrested ifhe violated the law?

A: According to hisstatements, Mr JohnWilliam Yettawentered our countrytwice, but that isdoubtful. I would sayhe did breach the lawof the Union ofMyanmar blatantly.

U Wai Phyo (WeeklyEleven Journal)Q: I learn that Mr John

William Yettaw ischarged under Section

13 (1) of ImmigrationLaw. I would like toknow why this law is

used to take actionagainst him. I wouldalso like to knowwhether he had someknowledge about theImmigration Law ofMyanmar or not, andhow he got entry visa.

A: When he applied forvisa, he had to sign topledge that he knewand would abide bythe law, rules andr e g u l a t i o n sconcerned. So, itwould be illogical ifhe said he did notknow the law, rulesand regulations. Evenif he really did notknow them, he wouldnot be privileged forhis violation of thelaw. The MyanmarEmbassy in Thailandgave visa to him. Heapplied for touristvisa, and he was notin the black list. TheMyanmar Embassydecided to give himvisa. Only on 3 May

we would know thatMr Yettaw hadcommitted the cross-border crime.

Hein Latt (PopularJournal)Q: What kind of problem

could there be becauseof Mr Yettaw’sintrusion? Is there any

negative impact?A: Actually, Mr John

William Yettaw is aone who committed atransnational crime.According to thedocuments from TOCDepartment, atransnational crimemeans that a personplans, prepares, directs and controlssomething in order tocommit crimes in aforeign country.

Being stationed inthe other country, MrYettaw has made a lotof preparations tocommit a crime byviolating the existinglaws of Myanmar.

This is why we cansay that he did commita transnational crime. If he committed sucha crime by forming agroup of more thanthree people, not byhimself, there couldhave been at r a n s n a t i o n a lorganized crime. Thathas a very negativeimpact on the State.

The second pointis that anti-government groupsinside and outside areattacking our countryalmost everyday to getinto trouble and harmpeace and stability. Our country has todeal with such

French Ambassador MrJean Pierre LafosseQ: It is learnt that Dr Tin

Myo Win has

informed about theintrusion of MrYettaw. But I wouldlike to know why thecourt has notsummoned him as awitness.

A: This is just the matterof the court. Wehaven’t heard thelawyers of thedefendant havenominated witnesses.

this. It is just the issueof the court.
