The area's most western point has been declared a protected area and comprises part of “Los Alcornocales” Natural Park. Subject to a considerable conservation effort, the landscape is dominated by cork trees, olives, oaks and strawberry.

The area is characterised by what are known as “canutos”It has narrow fluvial valleys with a high concentrationof trees and shrubs such asalders, glossy buckthorn,snowy mespilus, bay laureland rhododendron.
