Pastor’s Corner My Dear Friends, Happy Easter to you and your loved ones! On this day, we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

Many thanks go to everyone who have worked so hard to make Lent and Easter at St. Mary such wonderful events. Special thanks go to Jesús, Nuestra Esperanza (our Hispanic Young Adult Group) for their work on the Vía Crucis on Good Friday, the groups who put on the Soup & Stations each Friday of Lent, Sara Bryant and all the music ministries of St. Mary, Phil Davis and his crew who made the campus so beautiful, and all the others worked diligently behind the scenes! In the Catholic Church, the Easter Season begins at the Easter Vigil Mass and goes through Evening Prayer of Pentecost. And speaking of Easter Vigil, congratulations to all those who celebrated sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil Mass! Coming up are many other exciting St. Mary parish activities including the St. Mary Catholic School Golf Classic at Porter’s Neck Country Club on April 16th, Dancing with the Stars on May 14th, First Communions, and Graduation. Before you know it, we’ll be in summertime! Sincerely yours in Christ, - Father Bob

Second Annual “Bountiful Bracketology” Event! In the tradition of celebrating March Madness, the Youth Ministry program will be coordinating a NCAA tournament bracket competition for all interested. (Adults and youth in grades 6 and up). We have decided to incorporate one of the corporal works of mercy, feeding the hungry, into our competition.

The “entry fee” for the bracket challenge will be the following: (A total of 5 items required per entry)

1 box of pasta 1 jar of pasta sauce

1 can of crushed tomatoes 1 small container of non-perishable parmesan cheese

1 small non-perishable dessert item (ex. cookies, chocolate etc.)

Participants can drop off their “entry fee” to the Youth Ministry office starting immediately. After the tournament begins and all participants have registered their bracket picks, the Youth Ministry Group will be taking the donations and assembling “Dinner Baskets” out of the items. The baskets will be given directly to Sr. Isaac and distributed to the guests of Tileston Outreach to provide a meal to a family during the Easter holiday.

All brackets and “entry fees” have been turned in. The tournament championship game will be played on Monday, April 4th, 2016. We will be awarding the top two participants in our bracket challenge. First place will receive a $50.00 VISA gift card and second place will receive a $25.00 VISA gift card. The winners will be announced on Tuesday, April 5th, 2016. Good luck!

Via Cruces = Way Of The Cross Richard and Cathy Tamisiea would like very much to invite parishion-ers to come visit their meditation garden (Via Cruces = Way Of The Cross) at any time but especially during Lent and Easter. The trail depicts Christ's suffering as He carries the cross to His death on Mount Calvary (Stations of the Cross). Mr. and Mrs. Tamisiea think you will find your visit very spiritually moving. The trail is located at 6207 Fox Run Road just off of Old Military Rd. in the Greenville Sound Area. Please come at any time and it is not necessary to call or an-nounce your visit. May God bless you especially at this Easter Time. Ignited By Truth - Save the Dates! Speaker Series Friday Evening, April 22, 2016 Jeff Cavins, Founder of The Great Adventure Bible Stud-ies, Music by Dana Catherine, St. Michael the Arch-angel Catholic Church, Cary Full Conference Febru-ary 24-25, 2017 Raleigh Convention Center, Bishop Michael F. Burbidge, Vigil Mass Celebrant and Hom-ilist - See more at: dioceseofraleigh.org Elimination of Fees for a Declaration of Nullity As of July 1, 2015, the Diocese of Raleigh eliminated all costs associ-ated with a Declaration of Nullity. Bishop Burbidge decided the Dio-cese will absorb all costs related to the nullity process in order to make it more accessible to those who have been previously married and divorced. If you are interested in beginning or learning more about the nullity process, please contact Mrs. Susan Stanton (919-821-9754) or Mrs. Vikki Newell (919 821-9759). If you speak Spanish, please con-tact Ms Teresa Aldahondo (919-821-9758). - See more at: dioceseofra-leigh.org Year of Mercy The Spiritual Works of Mercy The Spiritual Works of Mercy have long been a part of the Christian tradition, appearing in the works of theologians and spiritual writers throughout history. Just as Jesus attended to the spiritual well-being of those he ministered to, these Spiritual Works of Mercy guide us to "help our neighbor in their spiritual needs" (USCCA).

We will focus on the Spiritual Works of Mercy for the next seven weeks. After each work of mercy there are also suggestions and words of advice for living them out in our daily lives. Have your own sug-gestions? Let us know @USCCB using the hashtag #mercyinmotion! Forgiving injuries: Forgiving others is difficult at times because we do not have God's limitless mercy and compassion. But Jesus teaches us that we should forgive as God forgives, relying on him to help us show others the mercy of God

• Let go of grudges

• Saying sorry is something we learn as kids, but how often do we really mean it? Forgiveness transforms hearts and live

• Participate in the Sacrament of Penance

• Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord Basilica Shrine of Saint Mary – March 26 and March 27, 2016 6

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord St. Mary Social Ministry/Tileston Outreach It is difficult to find words to catch the depth of the events for this day. Here is how Joyce Rupp does it in her book that I often quote: Fragments of Your Ancient Name:

The Resurrection John 11:25 Like a seed trampled underfoot, You overcame violence and took root. Like a flower wilted by a freeze, You lifted your head and newly bloomed. Like a stream gone dry in drought, You sought the source and survived. Like a tree bent over from the storm, You stood up straight and tall again. Like a faithful lover returning home I welcome your risen presence now. (April 29) What very good news! "How might I share my belief in Jesus' resurrection with others?"

Easter 2016

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Rejoice and be glad because Christ is truly risen! It is my hope and prayer that on Easter and throughout this sacred season you and your families will celebrate and experience anew the peace and joy of Our Lord and Savior. Today we are united with the universal Church in rejoicing in the vic-tory of Jesus Christ, the One who dispelled the power of darkness, who turned suffering to glory and even death to life. In uniting ourselves to him, we share in His victory and discover the grace and strength we need to walk in faith during our earthly journey so that one day we will live with Him forever. In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we are especially reminded that the Risen Lord offers us newness of life through the forgiveness of our sins. As his witnesses, we are to radiate the joy that is ours in being made a new creation in Christ. We are also to imitate Christ and offer forgiveness to those who have offended us so that nothing separates or divides us. Our witness will also be enhanced when others see us fer-vent in prayer, generous in service, and joyful in hope. Please be assured of my prayers for you and all those you love at East-er and always. With God's grace, may you unite yourself more deeply to Christ and be faithful witnesses of His divine mercy and infinite love. Sincerely in Christ, Michael f. Burbidge Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge Bishop of Raleigh

St. Mary Athletics GOLF OUTING VOLUNTEERS: Please, if you can spare a few hours on April 16, sign up for some time slots to work the Golf Classic fundraiser. There are several jobs to do, but each is not a lot of work. Those attending the Golf Classic will appreciate the help. INTRAMURAL COED GOLF: We will be having Intramural Golf on Wednesdays at 3:30 at the Wilmington Municipal Golf Course. It is open to boys and girls who have played and have knowledge of the game. Each participant must have clubs and golf balls. We play 9 holes, the cost is $8.00, and it takes approximately 2 hours to play. We ask that parents pick up their children on time. If any parent would like to walk along with the players and instruct them on the finer points of the game, that would be a plus. The program started on Thursday, March 24th. Since we are outside, all plans are "weather permitting." If you have a child who is interested, please email me to let me know ([email protected]). Parents are responsible for transporta-tion of the players to the course. BOYS' TENNIS: Mrs. Millie Moore and Ms. Simone Payne are coaching our Boys' Tennis Team this year. If you are in grades 6-8, please see these ladies to get the required forms. Enjoy a day of tennis outside in the great weather.

The 5th Annual St. Mary Catholic School Golf Classic April 16, 2016 Porters Neck Country Club We are anticipating another successful event, and expect even more participation than at last year's tournament!

Proceeds from last year's Golf Classic provided a much-needed reno-vation for our concession stand as well as updates to both the boys' and girls' locker rooms. A portion of the funds were designated to help in the replacement of the original wood floor in the historic Tileston Gymnasium. That pro-ject is taking place this spring.

With this event, over the past 4 years, we have achieved many goals in support of our athletic and physical education programs, as well as some big projects to improve and modernize our historic gym facility.

As a valued supporter of our previous events, we want you to know that all proceeds from our fundraising efforts directly support ALL students at St. Mary School, and also other youth and adult members of the surrounding community. We are blessed with a group of very dedicated St. Mary parents and supporters again this year.
