Call to Worship

Leader: God we are seeking you:

People: Let yourself be found.

Leader: God we are calling you:

People: Listen to our prayers.

Leader: God we praise you:

People: We enter your courts with singing!

Receive your people with gladness! *Hymn - “All Creatures of Our God and King” PH #455 *Prayer of Confession (unison)

All: Forgive us, O God, for being so careless with the world

you so carefully made;

For being so inconsiderate of people you considered

worth dying for;

For being so irreverent about life and realities you

obviously revere;

For being so ungracious about sharing the gifts of your

grace.

We ask forgiveness through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Amen. Silent prayers may be offered. *Words of Assurance

Leader: Christ does not keep score of our failures nor counts

grudges against us.

People: Christ waits for us to return to him, ready to receive us

in love.

Leader: Do you want to be healed?

Page 5: Collingswood Presbyterian Church · 9/9/2013  · Collingswood Presbyterian Church September 8, 2013 30 Fern Avenue, Collingswood, New Jersey 08108 Telephone: 856-854-4523 ♦ Fax:

People: Yes, Lord, we want to be healed and restored to a right

relationship with you and others.

Leader: Then believe the good news. In Jesus Christ, we are

forgiven.

*Response - “O How He Loves You and Me” STF #2108

O how he loves you and me! O how he loves you and me!

He gave his life. What more could he give?

O how he loves you; O how he loves me;

O how he loves you and me!

Jesus to Calv’ry did go; his love for sinners to show.

What he did there brought hope from despair.

O how he loves you; O how he loves me;

O how he loves you and me!

*Sharing of the Peace

Leader: The peace of Christ be with you.

People: And also with you.

(Children will remain in service with parents.)

Anthem “Lord, Have Mercy” by Michael W. Smith

sung by Keith & Peggy Haines

decrees of the Lord are sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;

the commandment of the Lord is clear, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey, and drippings of the honeycomb.

Sermon: “Windows of Christ - Frenemies” The Rev. Dr. Katherine G. Killebrew

RESPONSE TO THE WORD

*Affirmation of Faith - Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became truly human. For our sake, he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day, he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who

proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the

Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the

prophets.

We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We

look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to

come. Amen.

Offering If our lives were to end tonight, would we be prepared to give

good account of our stewardship? Or are we still pulling down our barns to build larger ones, while God says, “Fool!...the

things you have prepared, whose will they be?” Let us share our treasures.

The Lord’s Supper

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

Leader: It is truly right and our greatest joy. . .

And join their unending hymn singing, (Hymn #581)

People: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,

God of power and might.

Heaven and Earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.
