Who do you say that I am?

Jesus asked this question time and time again in his encounter with people. What do you think about me? Who am I to you? Do I meet your expectations of who God is? In other words, Jesus is asking “What we are looking for?” How we answer that question defines how we view our faith and our God. It also answers what we look for in a church and in our relationships. Need love and support? Then you are longing for a God of love and acceptance. Looking for solace or healing? Jesus the Great Physician will meet your needs. If we are looking for challenge and ways to make a difference in the world, the Jesus of action is who we follow. If you want to find forgiveness, then the Lord of the cross will cleanse your soul. In fact, God is not just one thing. God has all of those attributes…. and more than we can ever imagine. The powerful God that creates, moves mountains and stills the seas is found in the Bible. The God that hates evil, in any form, fights a spiritual battle with the sin that resides in the world and in our hearts. Jesus came to the world and upset the established way of thinking, worshipping and acting in the world. He held up the meek over the strong, the peacemaker instead of the warrior, and the generous givers over against the selfish. He pointed out our flaws and failures. He also fiercely loved us. So who do YOU say that Jesus is? Come discover Jesus all over again this Lent.

The Pulse February 2012

Do you have a special memory of Sunday School when you were a child? I remember sitting with all the other children, singing songs (like “Jesus Loves Me”), and learning Bible verses. Although I’m sure my parents told me I had to go, looking back, I’m glad I went and am glad that I brought my own children to Sunday School. I know that what they learned is still with them as they raise their own children. As parents, it is up to us to guide our children in the right direction, hoping that what they see and hear will stay with them throughout their lives.

If you saw the Christmas Pageant, I’m sure you were struck by the number of children that participated. (Who will ever forget the little angel in the choir loft this year!) I just wish we had that many children every week. I know we are all very busy these days, particularly our children, and we are forced to make choices every day about what is most important. However, there can be no doubt that understanding what God and Jesus mean in our lives is critical in these difficult times. So, please make Sunday School a priority for your children. We, the CE Committee are doing every thing we can to make Sunday School interesting, fun, and most importantly, a memorable learning experience for all of our children. After all, these children will one day be making important decisions that will affect all of our lives, and we want them to have a strong background and faith in God and Jesus.

We are also looking for a few additions to our staff. Our rotation program means that anyone who offers to help our children learn about God spends just one or two Sundays a quarter teaching. We supply the materials you need and will give you any help or instruction you feel you might need to work with the children. It’s a great experience and is so important to the children. Tell Keemia, Megan, Keith, or Kate. Join us and our children on this faith journey!

Let the children

come to me…” Mark 10:13

A Note From Your Mission Elder… As most of you know, our congregation is lending it's support to a project bringing CLEAN, DRINKABLE water to the people in our "sister" church in Cuba. Although we are not "ahead of the curve" on this, we are definitely "riding the wave!" Pastor Kate and I shared an article describing a water project in Ethiopia, Water to Thrive. Lutheran churches have brought 170 freshwater wells to rural parts of that country. Also, an arm of the United Nations is raising our consciousness about the connection of "water and food security." They are declaring Thursday, March 22nd as World Water Day.....a day to recognize how this connection (water and food security!) affects ALL of us. (Is this beginning to sound like Joseph and the drought in Egypt from the Old Testament????) Stay tuned, we hope to learn more about the value of the "water"-which we use in such abundance.

HELP END WORLD HUNGER The youth will be going without food for 30 hours on March 9th and 10th to raise money for World Vision, an organization that is working to end world hunger. During the course of the weekend

the kids will be doing service projects, having Bible studies and learning about the problems of the world outside of Collingswood, NJ. Please consider sponsoring one of our kids - just $1 can feed a child for a day! We are asking the kids who participate to bring one or two bottles of juice to share. We also need donations of cases of water for the kids to help them stay hydrated. See Ryan Appleby if you can help or would like to make a donation.

We welcome all to the Worship service that begins at 10:30 a.m. each week at Collingswood Presbyterian Church. We may do some new things, share a video clip, try some new music, be blessed with others talents, share our time together before, during, and after the service. In case you missed the Worship service recently, we had a baptism and reaffirmed our own baptism; we welcomed new members; nominated, ordained and installed new (or returning) Deacons and Elders; collected soup on “Souper Bowl Sunday” and enjoyed good hand-made soup from our Youth Group; special music by the Bell Choirs, solo bell player and the Chancel Choir each Sunday creates a wonderful memory of shared music. We are blessed to hear the Lord’s words spoken by the volunteer readers each week; and then to hear the Lord’s plans for us interpreted in a way that we can understand and in a way that we can live those words as told to us by The Rev. Dr. Katherine G. Killebrew, Pastor – you are missing something special if you are not sharing your Sunday with us during the Worship service! Come see who we are and what we do in Worship service each Sunday at CPC – we welcome you and look forward to seeing you! With God’s help, Shanna Morascini Worship Committee

The Memorial Handbell Choir is in need of ringers. If interested contact Marjorie Miller at 856.858.6851. If you have a music background and can read music you can step right in. If you enjoy music and want to learn to play the bells but have little or no training, talk to Marjorie and set up some practice sessions to get ready to ring. It is a lot of fun and the group needs you!

YOUR GAS = $20.00!YOUR GAS = $20.00!YOUR GAS = $20.00!YOUR GAS = $20.00! If you have gas, you can now save money and help the church! (That’s Natural Gas delivered to your home through your utility!) Viridian now supplies natural gas to utilities in NJ and PA at a rate lower than PSE&G and PECO.

PSE&G $0.451 per therm (thru 9/30/2012)

VIRIDIAN $0.400 per therm (variable rate)

PECO $0.583 per therm (thru 2/29/2012)

VIRIDIAN $0.410 per therm) (variable rate)

That’s a potential savings of 11.28% with PSE&G and 29.69% with PECO.

On top of the savings, Viridian will give $20.00 to CPC for each customer who chooses Viridian by Feb. 29th!

In addition, Viridian will send the church a donation each month for every member who chooses Viridian as their utilities gas provider, just as they do for every member who chose Viridian as an electricity provider to the utilities. Last year the church received $728 from Viridian, while those who signed up saved money on their bill over the course of the year.

It’s simple and easy to sign up at www.viridian.com/cpc. After you get to the web site, click on the “Become a Customer” icon in the upper right corner and simply follow the instructions. You will need your bill to get the correct PG meter number. If you have not already signed up for Viridian to supply electricity to your utility, you can do both at the same time. It only takes a few minutes for you to begin saving on your utility bill and help the church at the same time.

Viridian is committed to helping the environment through its use of renewable and sustainable sources for electricity. They purchase those supplies through sources within the state to help local businesses and the local economy, as well.

Viridian NJ customers have avoided over 143 million pounds of carbon being produced which equates to 1,670,805 trees planted. In addition, Viridian planted trees in the Amazon rain forest last year and gave solar panels to remote villages in Africa this year so children could study at home in the evenings.

Church Visioning takes more than the luck of the Irish!!

We invite you to participate in a morning of conversation and planning for the future of our Church. The next 5 years are critical for our future and we need YOUR input. Last year we gathered information and had discussions around the lunch tables. Now it is time to discern the call of our Lord and plan where we intentionally want to go. We are blessed to have The Rev. Dr. Deborah Brincivalli, the Executive Presbyter of the Presbytery of West Jersey to lead us through a planning process.
