PRE-K PROGRAMS (Birth to 5)

WHERE CHILDREN LEARN, GROW THRIVEAt the Y, we regard each child as a unique individual who needs to be understood, guided, encouraged and appreciated. At this early age, play is a child’s most important form of learning and development. We provide programs and activities where children learn, explore, develop athletic skills, build a positive self-image and develop social relationships with other children.

Ensure your children are kindergarten-ready. Enroll them in a YMCA pre-K program today.

PARENT/CHILD SWIM LESSONS(Ages 6 months to 3 years)

Our parent/child swim lessons promote water enrichment and aquatic-readiness activities for children and their parents or other trusted adults. In this program, the developmental experiences of each child are used to build the child’s self-confidence in and out of the water. Parents learn from the instructor’s example how to guide their children through positive reinforcement and appropriate praise.

We offer three levels based on developmental abilities:

• Shrimp (6-18 months) Child can control their head and sit with support from the hands.

• Perch (19-36 months) Child can run and jump.

• Pike with Parent (3-5 years) Transitional class between parent/child and preschool swim lessons.

Instructors are certified in the YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Program.

No swim lessons on Thanksgiving Day.

Shrimp (6-18 months). Parents are taught how to work with their child to feel more comfortable in the water and to develop basic water safety and swim skills. Each child should always be accompanied by one parent.

Perch (19-36 months) Parents are taught how to work with their child to feel more comfortable in the water and to develop basic water safety and swim skills. Each child should always be accompanied by one parent.

Pike with Parent (3-5 years) Children are taught basic skills that are the building blocks of swimming, including water propulsion, floating, body awareness and independence. They are also taught general aquatic safety and pool games. Children will be taught with and without the use of various instructional flotation devices (IFDs). Classes maybe combined based on enrollment. Is your child just not ready to be alone for swim lessons? This is a transitional class where we wean your child away from Mom and Dad. Your child must be at least 3 years old at the start of the session. The next level from here would be Pike.

PRESCHOOL/EARLY LEARNINGPreschool 2016-17 DCFS Licensed Programs

At the Sage YMCA, we regard each child as a unique individual, to be understood, guided, encouraged and valued. Our programs provide children the abilities to learn through play, and confidently explore and build a positive self-image.

Our teachers are professionally trained and DCFS-certified, with continual professional development to ensure the best and most current practice in the classroom.

We are proud to implement Creative Curriculum, which is fully aligned with state and national Early Learning Standards. The curriculum focuses on the interests of the children, which creates the study topics of our lessons. Creative Curriculum develops social, emotional and physical development, language, literacy, math and cognitive skills. The curriculum also includes science, social studies and the arts to develop the whole child based on their individual developmental needs. Our all day and half day program options give children an opportunity to fully engage and explore in a child centered environment that supports the unique needs of each child.
