Beverley talks about the news this week

� Two weeks ago three boys in Israel called Eyal,Gilad and Naftali were taken away by somepeople.

� Jewish people all around the world prayed forthe boys.

� This week we heard that the boys had died andwe are all feeling very sad.

� We want everyone at Kisharon to do an act ofkindness to remember the three boys.

� Before Shabbos this week, do something nice foranother person, and when you do, think of thethree boys and wish their family a long life.

� We hope only good things will happen in thefuture.

� Peter Lewinson teaches men supported by Kisharon.

� The men are learning numeracy and literacy.

� Peter worked as a school teacher for 30 years.

� He now enjoys learning with Kisharon men.

� He said: “Kisharon is marvellous. I really look forwardto going.

� “The men want to learn.”

� Peter uses flash cards and board games in lessons.

New look for Tuffkid� Tuffkid Nursery has new furniture.

� Barnet Council gave a £10,000 grant to JaniceMarriott, Head of the Nursery.

� Janice chose to buy a pretend kitchen.

� Janice also bought a blue sofa.

� Another item has an arch that you can lookthrough to see people.

� Janice also bought some tables.

� These tables can be raised or lowered.

� Children using different kinds of wheelchairs arenow able to sit at a table.

Company in Elstree.

� He has a bank account. The company pays hissalary into the account.

� Illana Ellison has two jobs. She is working at F&CReit and Challengeyour.com.

� The Jewish Leadership Council has taken on MeirHalpern. It is his third paid job.

� Meir's boss is called Simon Johnson. Simon askedKisharon for another employee. An employee issomeone who works for you.

� Ushy Konig is no longer supported by Kisharon.

� Shlomo Weltman, the Adult Services Employmentand Opportunities Manager, found Ushy a job.

� Ushy is working at Carpet City in Tottenham.

Shabbos magic� Four volunteers make Shabbos special for

Tamara Fynn and Rebecca Lassman.

� Tamara and Rebecca live at Eagle Lodge.

� Dini Cutler, Devorah Halberstadt, Soro Malkalevand Batsheva Greenberg light Shabbos candlesat Eagle Lodge on Friday nights.

� They sing zemiros (songs for Shabbos) too.

� Soro and Batsheva are new volunteers.

� They are 16-years old, and go to the LondonJewish Girls’ High School which is called Tiferes.

� Soro’s uncle is Yoni Lev. Yoni is supported byKisharon.

Best foot forward

� Eli Sulzbacher went on a long walk for charity.

� He raised £120 for the Hospital Kosher Meals

Service.

� This charity provides kosher meals for people in

hospital.

� Eli walked 25km.

� This is the same as walking from Golders Green

to Stamford Hill and back again.

� The route was along the Grand Union Canal in

Hertfordshire.

� Support Worker Moishe Perry walked with Eli.

� She is very artistic.

� The butterflies are hairgrips.

� They are made using beads and thread.

� He was one of Kisharon’s top fundraisers atPurim. This was his prize.

� The helicopter took off from the runway atthe London Elstree Aerodrome.

� The pilot, James Watson, pointed out famousLondon landmarks.

� They flew over the Olympic Village, theShard and the London Eye.

� Joshua Lew, Kisharon Teaching Assistant andpart-time Support Worker, came with him.

� He took photos during the flight.

� Moishe said: “I loved it and would like to do itagain next year!”

Join the Moonlight Walk

� Kisharon has three new volunteers.

� Moshe Abudarham is an expert on social media like

Facebook and Twitter.

� He is helping Kisharon with this.

� Leon Wong and Amy Aaron are the other volunteers.

� Kisharon needs more volunteers. If you know anyone who

can help, tell them to contact Lara Domjan, Volunteer

Coordinator at volunteer@kisharon.org.uk

� Kisharon’s Moonlight Walk 2014 is on July 12.

� Until now the event has been for women.

� This year men can take part too.

� Walkers will ask friends and family to sponsor them.

� They will raise money for Kisharon.

� The route is 15km around London at night.

Hard night for cyclists� 35 super-fit Kisharon cyclists took part in

Nightrider 2014.

� They raised an amazing £10,000.

� Nightrider 2014 was a tough 100-kilometer

cycle ride through the night.

� The cyclists passed Tower Bridge, the London

Eye, Canary Wharf and other London sights.

� Miral Patani raised more than £4,000.

� Miral is a teacher at Kisharon Day School.

� Miral took part to raise money for the school.

Concert at the Barbican

� Gary Kahan was in a concert at the Barbican Centre

in London.

� He performed with the London Symphony Orchestra.

� It is one of the most important orchestras in the UK.

� Gary played a handchime. Handchimes are musical

instruments which are rung by hand, similar to handbells.

� Gary belongs to a group called LSO Create. It is for

adults with learning difficulties.

� People from LSO Create played with the London

Symphony Orchestra in the concert.

� Moishe Goldblatt was at the concert. He was invited to

the party afterwards.

� Moishe met the composer

Paris – thanks to Lyna

� Boys from Kisharon Day School went to Paris.

� Teacher Lyna Panas is also the 16 plus Extra-

Curriculum Coordinator at the Day School.

� Lyna raised £5,000 by herself to take the boys on

the trip.

� They went on a cruise on the River Seine.

� They ate a pastry and had a drink in the Jewish

Quarter.

� The boys met Mickey Mouse at Disneyland Paris.

� On the trip it was Moishy Gluck’s 19th birthday. Happy

birthday Moishy!

� Everyone

had a

wonderful

time.

� It was at Allianz Park in Hendon.

� The Israeli Ambassador Daniel Taub was there.

� Bezy Gluck and Yoni Lev met him.

� Around 3,000 people were there, including theKisharon Bear.

� Darren Swabel was wearing the Kisharon Bearcostume. Darren is a Kisharon volunteer.

� Kisharon Day School Teaching Assistant and part-time Support Worker Joshua Lew ran the 10k race.

� Moishe Goldblatt ran the 5k race. He wants to runthe 10k race next year.

� Kisharon runners took part in the Maccabi GBCommunity Fun Run.

� The name of week’s sedra is Balak.

� Balak was the king of Moav.

� King Balak heard about the victories of the army Bnei

Yisroel.

� Balak the king was afraid of the Bnei Yisrael’s army, so

he hired Bilam the wizard to curse the Bnei Yisroel.

� A curse is something that people say when they want

bad things to happen to another person.

� Hashem did not allow Bilam to curse the Bnei Yisroel.

� Hashem made Bilam say a blessing instead. The name

of this blessing is Ma Tovu, which we say every day in

davening.

The Parsha

Our D’var Torah is written by Rabbi Shmuel Neuman. He teaches kodesh

and music to Kisharon adults, and to children at the Day School.

� John Boothby and Samuel Farleigh have won awards.

� Andrew Travers Chief Executive of Barnet Councilpresented the prizes.

� John works in Adult Day Services and Samuel is a Support

Worker at the Hannah Schwalbe Home.

� Samuel was not at the awards ceremony. He was on

holiday from work. He will receive his award later.

� John and Samuel work extra hard to improve the lives of

the people they support.

Staff win awards

� Have you been to the gift shop at the Jewish Museum in

Camden?

� You can now buy Kisharon greetings cards at the Jewish

Museum in Camden.

� “We are very pleased that museum staff decided to sell

our cards,” said Raymond Bonham, Manager of the Print

Shop.

� The cards are made by adults supported by Kisharon.

� Raymond has delivered 200 cards to the museum.

� An organisation called Skills for Care sponsored the awards.

how to read books.

products is just as useful.

Day School, told this to parents of

children with learning difficulties.

� These parents want their children to learn.

� She said children could learn from seeing

and remembering items they saw or

places they went to every single day.

� This is a very important step in learning

how to read, she said.
