Imagined communities
The sociocultural context of the language is the combination of two layers: social and historical.
Sociocultural context of language refers that language is linked to society and culture

Communities are characterized by
facts and artifacts, common dreams,
fulfilled and unfulfilled
imaginings.
These imaginings are
mediated through the language.
What is culture ?
In short culture is the membership in a community that shares the same space, common social space and historical.
Insiders/outsiders
Insider
Someone whose
behaviours has been acquired
His or her body feels ‘at home’
someone who perceives that this collective
order of things is their own
Outsider
Someone whose mental dispositions
have evolved somewhere
else
He or she Feels culturally ‘out
of place’
Someone who doesn’t
experience either socio-cultural or political
belonging.
Outsiders are the
nonmembers
Outsider
They don’t fit in with what is considered normal.
Others in the group ignore or deny- they are outsiders and
insiders.
It depends where you are standing and what you want
They don’t belong in a
group
