the Sea was fomed by a goup of

people who saw the need to pomote the

education of young seafaes and assist

in the welfae of the eldely, disabled and

those seafaes who ae in need.

Ou success is due to the geneosity

fom the geneal public, commecial

oganisations and fom the effots of the

committee of voluntees, said chaiman

Patsy Dixon, fom Pakgate.

Among the beneciaries, we have

included Sea Cadet units who bought

tents, oas, kayaks, computes, whilst

othes have eceived gants to pay

fo taining events on TS royalist and

donated to the Livepool Seafaes

Cente.

They sponso annually a sailing

chate fo young people selected by

the Meseyside Police/Hoylake Sailing

School poject Chance of a Lifetime

while this yea 4th Heswall St Petes

Sea Scouts eceived a gant towads a

eplacement safety boat. The Maine

Voluntee Sevice was given funds which

enabled them to puchase a 2.9m Dinghy/

Tende; this vessel is now evident in

Albet Dock and used fo the taining of

young people in navigation, boat handling

and geneal seamanship. The goup

have ecently been able to assist the UK

Noth Blind Sailing Association to pomote

the paticipation of blind and patially

sighted people and fund sail taining

oppotunities.

being awaded the Eco-Schools Silve Awad

ecently. Membes of the schools Eco Waio

Club encouaged classmates, staff and paents

to educe, ecycle and euse. The childen have

been esponsible fo intoducing composting,

wate saving, enegy saving light bulbs and the

ecycling of pinte catidges, pape, batteies,clothes and mobile phones.

Membes of the club caied out an audit of the

school and suggested ways to save enegy and

avoid unnecessay waste.

Rhinos spotted in the Lake District!The rhinos class (Yea 6) of Pakgate Pimay School ecently enjoyed a week of

fun and adventue at The Keppleway Poject in the Lake Distict. The goup faced

many challenges and tasks thoughout the week leaning new skills and woking

closely as a team along the way to solve poblems and achieve thei goals. The

The winter owering jasmine, Jasminumnudiorum will ower throughout winter whenthe weather is mild with little yellow owers onarching stems. It is easy to propagate as stemsthat touch the ground will form roots so if you

know someone with an established plant youcan beg some stems to start your own shrub.I can be left to grow un-pruned, preferablyagainst a fence or kept trimmed to grow up awall.

Some winter owering heathers (Ericas) willstart to ower now so look out for plants ingarden centres to add colour around the base ofyour winter jasmine. Hebe red Edgeis a good winter evergreen low

shrub with the tips of thebuds turning a deep shadeof deep pink in the coldof winter. It will growto a low dome shapeabout 1m in diameterand 50cmtall.

Coloured bark on trees and shrubs is also very

attractive. If you have space for trees, the silverbirches such as Betula ermanii with creamyivory bark glow in the winter sun. Inter-plantwith coloured stemmed dogwoods such asCornus alba Elegantissima (red stems) orCornus sanguinea Midwinter Fire (orange to redstems) and under-plant these with snowdropsand crocuses for a stunning winter show. Thiscombination would look good in a wide borderlining a drive.

Buy in rst early seed potatoes if you wantto grow new potatoes for early harvesting.Set them in a cool frost free place in the lightto encourage shoots to start growing. Thisis known as chitting your potatoes. Keepnetting over any brassicas to protect them frompigeons. Pigeons can destroy a plant in a day!
