Hi Folks,Are you ready for the holidays? I don't
think many will answer yes to that question. Most people are trying to make ends meet as best they can and the future of our econo-my remains questionable. Trying times makes businesses adapt or close doors. Many busi-nesses have adapted and modifi ed their fo-cus and are doing well; others have not been as successful in that area. This year has been good for our publishing business as we have added another magazine to our stable. The Sword & Shield Magazine is a quarterly pub-lication for Blue Knights members. It is direct mailed to over 22,000 members worldwide with the majority of members here in the United States. We are very blessed to have the opportunity to publish this magazine. My
husband, Randy does an awesome job of putting this magazine together. He is also a proud honorary Blue Knight member of TNIII. If you would like advertising information for either of these publications, please contact Randy, myself or any of our awesome sales staff near you.
When life gets you down, do what I do and get out and go for a ride on your motorcycle. I don't know how or why, but life's pressing issues just melt away when I get on my motorcycle and go for a ride. We don't let a little cold weather stop us from enjoying time in the saddle. We have heated gear and can continue to enjoy the riding season during the winter months. Please keep our advertisers in mind when you need work done to your bike over the winter; they need to keep income fl owing in so they can keep their doors open and we can all benefi t by the wonderful diversity of motorcycle industries.
Have a safe and very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!Keep Your Knees in the Breeze!

Tens of thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts came to
enjoy a week at the beach as Daytona Beach, Florida played host to the 2012 Biketoberfest Festival. Riders from around the world converged on this site to take in the sun, the beach, rides, events, vendors, top musical bands and the atmosphere which makes Daytona Beach one of the largest motorcycle event destinations in the world.
Beach Street was hopping with nearly 75 vendors and spotlighted by returning motorcycle businesses and a new one that expanded to a larger fa-cility as they had outgrown their orig-inal facility, ROAR Motorcycles. Their facility is HUGE and like no other, it’s no wonder they sold nearly 20 motor-cycles that weekend alone.
Rossmeyer Harley-Davidson played host to nearly 100 vendors. Bands from all across the country played at a host of sites like the Boot Hill Saloon, Froggy’s, Dirty Harry’s, Broken Spoke Saloon, Iron Horse Sa-loon, Full Moon Saloon and many others. Main Street was packed side to side during the days and nights as bikers enjoyed the events and festivi-ties offered by the many businesses up and down the venue.
During a special media event we at-tended for Biketoberfest, the Daytona Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau brought up several VIPs including Shelly Rossmeyer, the Mayor, Law En-forcement dignitaries and many new sponsors. Several great announce-ments were made but it was obvious that all were excited to get the week started and rolling.

This trip is also the fi rst re-birthday of Fluffy, my wife’s motorcycle which was nearly totaled a year ago and put back to new condition by the folks at ROAR with a lot of help from Hoppe Industries and friends. Daytona Bik-etoberfest is very special to both of us because of the caring people that put this event on and the people of Day-tona as well. See you all in Daytona for Bike Week in March!

Harley-Davidson’s top Custom Vehicle Op-erations touring model, the CVO Ultra
Classic Electra Glide, hit its eighth consecutive year of production making it the longest run of any CVO branding to date. This model is truly Harley-Davidson’s flagship and the most expen-sive in the CVO stable.
For 2013 the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide is offered in four color schemes. Stardust Silver/Dark Slate/Titanium Dust with Thun-derblade Graphics; Tribal Orange/Dark Slate/Inferno Orange with Thunderblade Graphics; Typhoon Maroon/Black Diamond/Burgundy Blaze with Thunderblade Graphics and the 110th Anniversary Edition Diamond Dust/Ob-sidian with Palladium Graphics.
Some new features of this model for 2013 include; Assist & Slip Clutch Pack that provides a slip feature on downshifts to reduce loading of the driveline; hydraulic actuation with reduced effort and reshaped lever. Chrome billet-style extended heel/toe shift lever. The Slipstream Collection heated hand grips, rider floorboard inserts, shifter pegs, brake pedal pad, passenger footpegs and windshield trim. An Indoor/Out-door motorcycle storage cover with embroidered CVO logo and a perforated leather insert for seating and backrest surfaces.
Standard features include; mirror chrome chisel custom wheels. Dual-control heated seat, hammock-style suspended in rider area and spring-board style suspension system in the pas-senger area. BOOM! Audio High Performance BOOM! Bagger front and rear speakers, 40W

per channel, Harman/Kardon Advanced Audio system, SiriusXM satellite radio and amplifier w/ customized equalization for BOOM! Audio, Tour-Pak bottom liner with BOOM! Audio Bass Booster Ports. 8GB iPod nano, interface with integrated iPod holder. Dash-mounted Road Tech zumo 660 GPS unit feeds GPS verbal com-mands to the radio speakers. Color-matched in-ner fairing and cap, LED King Tour-Pak brake/tail lamp, rear fender filler strips and saddlebag latches. Anti-lock brakes, electronic cruise con-
trol, black high-torque 1.4kW starter, braided stainless steel brake and clutch lines and the Harley-Davidson Smart Security System with siren.
In my opinion the Ultra Classic Electra Glide is one of the most comfortable touring models available, boasting an impressive 118 ft. lbs. of torque at 3750 RPM. Surprisingly for a bike that weighs 927 lbs. the handling is superb as I soon discovered riding some of the best backroads available in East Tennessee.

Over 950 bikes and well over 1200 people attended the 2012
Boswell’s Toy Parade through down-town Nashville, TN. Beginning at Centennial Park and ending at Boswell Harley-Davidson at Fesslers Lane in Nashville, the riders enjoyed a police escort from some of Tennessee’s fi nest. Being Nashville’s oldest motorcycle toy ride, this event continues to grow every year.
Lots of door prizes and gifts were awarded to a lot of riders who partici-pated along with a great cookout at the end of the day along with some great entertainment. The charities benefi ting from the ride will be able to offer chil-dren in the Nashville area some great gifts they might not otherwise have received. Bubba Boswell personally thanked all the riders, attendees and volunteers who made this event such a great success.

CCRF, the Bike Build
Tennessee’s Combat
Casualty Relief Fund
By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy
In today’s world, American’s come to the aide of the soldiers returning
from combat with injuries or prob-lems by the thousands. And there are several great charities that support those soldiers like the Wounded War-rior Fund that is for soldiers through-out the United States. Sometimes it takes time to get the funds needed to soldiers when the need arises and it also depends on if the funds are available. The Tennessee National Guard has gone an extra step forming the C.C.R.F. (Combat Casualty Relief Fund) just for the soldiers and airmen of the TN National Guard.
The Combat Casualty Relief Fund (CCRF) has been established to offer assistance to Soldiers and Airmen and their families as a means to offset fi -nancial hardships incurred as a result of combat related casualties incurred during a deployment while serving in the Tennessee National Guard.
Funding for these funds begins with
the people of Tennessee. The guys at Tellico Biker Rally (TBR) have begun to make one of the initial deposits to this fund by fi nding a bike builder and building a custom motorcycle with the help of several Tennessee businesses. Southern Biker Magazine was one of them. The build has begun and it will be given away at the 2013 Fall Tellico Biker Rally event to one of the soldiers from Tennessee. The money raised from the auction of the bike will give the CCRF its initial jump start to begin helping our soldiers.
The bike builder was fi rst on the groups mind and they found one in Mike Denniston. He used to own a
Florida Har-l e y - D a v i d -son dealer-ship back in the day (now named Ga-
tor HD). After selling his dealership he moved to Cleveland Tennessee, opened a shop, retired and moved to Delano, TN. There he opened his current shop, Thunder Valley Cycles. Mike loves to build bikes and back in 1979, beat all builders including Arlen Ness for Best of Class & Best of Show. Mike was asked why he was donating his time building this entire bike. He answered, “For our guys. I’ll do this and whatever it takes for them, be-cause they’ve already done it for me.”
Parts began being gathered and do-nated from all over the area and state. The new engine was donated by Knox-ville Harley-Davidson, Mid-south Motorcycle parts donated the forward controls, Bikes & Trikes sent in the pri-mary belt drive, tins were donated by JD Vincent, the Springer front end by the Chopper Squad, the Log Cabin do-nated the dual exhaust, TBR donated
the frame and sev-eral oth-er parts by other g r e a t business-es and folks. The bike is s tart ing to take shape.

CCRF, the Bike Build... Tennessee’s Combat Casualty Relief Fund
...continued
“These are hard times and espe-cially for our soldiers. I just wanted to take the lead and get my partners on board to make this happen, and they never batted an eye. I look for-ward to the day we don’t have to raise money for our own soldiers, but until that time, there’s people like me and guys here at TBR and the TN National Guard CCRF folks that care and will bend over backwards for our fellow man and especially our soldiers and airmen from the state of Tennessee”, Said Mike Fouts, veteran and one of four owners of the Tellico Biker Rally.
If you get a chance to help with the build or can donate a part or money to make this build happen so we can help donate to this fund, please do so. For the build, contact Mike Fouts at 423-404-4164. For more information on CCRF you can go to www.tnmili-tary.org/CCRF.

NHRA Announces Inaugural Screamin’ Eagle Championship Motorcycle Series & Schedule
By The Mag Man, Randy GracyChampionship Motorcycle Series & Schedule
By The Mag Man, Randy GracyChampionship Motorcycle Series & Schedule
Harley-Davidson is coming to the NHRA drag racing series and it
has already set its 2013 schedule. The motorcycles will compete head to head in fi ve different classes; Top Fuel, Pro Gas, Draggin’ Bagger, V-Rod and Hot Street. A total purse of $152,800 will be offered for all the classes com-bined.
Points will be determined by the top seven races for each rider. All winners at each event will get the champions trophy from NHRA called a Wallyin honor of the late NHRA founder Wally Parks. At year’s end, only the Top Fuel points winner will be crowned NHRA Screamin’ Eagle
Champion and will also receive a spe-cial champion’s trophy along with a hefty bonus check.
A lot of the racers will be coming in from other motorcycle drag racing divisions like AHDRA and AMRA. The AHDRA race schedule is on op-posite weeks of the NHRA schedule and should allow those wanting to do both series to do so if they have the funding need to do the racing and travel. We’ve already had one drag racing series to go by the wayside, the AMA Drag Racing Series. Let’s hope this expands the racing and not tear it apart.

AHDRA Announces 2013 Schedule
2013 will surely be an interesting one for Harley-Davidson drag rac-
ing. With the NHRA wanting to se-cure a HD series (and has done so), AHDRA released its 2013 schedule with six races. They are directly on opposite weekends that the NHRA races on so racers from both series can race in each other’s series.
The AHDRA has several more classes for drag racing than does the NHRA, sixteen total classes. Screa-min’ Eagle Top Fuel, Rush Pro Fuel, Rush Pro Gas, Hawaya Racing/Vree-land’s Harley-Davidson Pro Drag, Pro Stock, Pro Modifi ed, Right Quick Street Pro, Screamin’ Eagle Draggin Bagger, Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod De-stroyer, Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod, Hot Street, Bison Racing Super Gas, Super Sport, Rush Super Eliminator, Screa-min’ Eagle Performance SEP and Syn3 ET. This gives the drag racer in all of us a chance to race on a professional level.
Old Guys Do Rule Racing and Southern Biker Magazine spon-sored Pro Stock drag bike rider Tom Caldwell who had an interesting 2012 year as well. He came from last place at the season’s opener, running down the competition and winning his 3rd AHDRA Championship at the very last race in Louisiana. At the same time he raced the AMRA Drag Racing series and ran down the competition

The ShackWith all the road work going on Winnfield
Dunn Parkway in Kodak, TN it’s difficult to ride and sightsee. If you look close, you
might get a glimpse of The Shack. The Shack is located next to Food City near I-40. It’s a local restaurant and bar with friendly atmosphere. They offer a full bar and live music on Fridays and Saturdays.
I had to try the monster burger: double bacon cheese and all the fixins with tater tots at $11.95. I concur, anything that comes with two wooden skewers to hold it together is a challenge. It’s well worth the effort!
The Mikey is also a favorite sandwich: a 10 oz sirloin on a bun at $13.95. Pete likes the Rachel: pastrami with cheese and sauerkraut at $7.95. They offer plenty of “shacktizers” like fried pickles, jalapenos and pub chips (homemade potato chips with ranch seasoning).
The Shack is open every day at 3pm, except Mondays. This Shack is a champion, just like the basketball player. Call ‘em at 865-465-3030.
UNTIL WE EAT AGAIN, BIKER BARRY
WassailWassail
Wassail refers both to the salute. “Waes Hail” and to the drink of wassail, a hot mulled cider traditionally drunk as an integral part of wassailing , an ancient southern English drinking ritual intended to ensure a good cider apple harvest the following year.
1 qt Apple Juice1 qt Orange Juice2 Cups Cranberry Juice2 Tsp lemon Juice1 Cup Pinnapple Juice1 Cup Sugar3-4 Cinnamon Sticks8 Whole Allspice Berries1 Orange SlicedRum or Shine (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a 4qt or larger crockpot on low for about 4 hours or until desired temperature. I hope you enjoy the recipe and have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
