1. Introduction

This is the final project for Element in Natural and Built Environment. In this final project is about to create our better livable town. There are 2 parts in this final project which is individual work (The report and video presentation) and group work (The model and A2 presentation boards). Before we plan for the future town we should refer to the past town and learn from their history to achieve a better livable town. Next, we will investigate about the past, present and future town. With the information collected from the different towns then we need to propose the future town. The future town should focus on needs of people, facilities, infrastructure, and how it will sustain itself in future town.

In this project we will be focusing on the component of a TOWN and build environment. We as mayor is required by our people to create a new town with the reasons that it is too crowded. -The size of the new town should be about 30KM2 or smaller about 15-30KM2. -The population in between 80,000-200,000. -The town must be in Malaysia.

4. Investigation & Data Collection:

Present Towns / City

When did it start? History and allThere is archaeological evidence of human occupation of the Rome area from

approximately 14,000 years ago, but the dense layer of much younger debris obscures Palaeolithic and Neolithic sites. During the middle age, the Bishop of Rome, called the Pope. He was important since the early days of Christianity because of the martyrdom of both the apostles Peter and Paul there. Rome remained the capital of the Papal States until its annexation by the Kingdom of Italy in 1870; the city became a major pilgrimage site during the Middle Ages and the focus of struggles between the Papacy and the Holy Roman Empire starting with Charlemagne.

During the early modern age, the latter half of the 15th century saw the center of the Italian Renaissance move to Rome from Florence. The Papacy wanted to equal and surpass the grandeur of other Italian cities and to this end created ever more extravagant churches, bridges, squares and public spaces: among them, the new Saint Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, Ponte Sisto, and Piazza Navona.

What town are you concentrating on?

5. Investigation & Data Collection:

The future Town/City Honolulu, Hawaii

History:Evidence of the first settlement of Honolulu by the original Polynesian migrants to the archipelago comes from oral histories and artifacts. These indicate that there was a settlement where Honolulu now stands in the 11th century. However, after Kamehameha I conquered Oʻahu in the Battle of Nuʻuanu at Nuʻuanu Pali, he moved his royal court from the Island of Hawaiʻi to Waikīkī in 1804. His court relocated in 1809 to what is now downtown Honolulu. The capital was moved back to Kailua-Kona in 1812.

Significant: It is a city with different of attractions such as tourism, transportation, cultural institutions, education and diplomatic government system. It have beaches, tower, museums, bay, memorial, aquarium and much more to attract tourists. It have been ranked the worst traffic congestion city with 58 hours per year on congested roadways. To solve the problem, public transport s available in the city which are buses and rail. It have education with colleges and universities. It also have a private or public primary schools and secondary school. The important is it have a public libraries for all the people.

Information and elements that I learned from this example of future city is it try to organize as much as interesting places to improve it tourism attractive toward the world. Education is a thing that cannot be forgotten inside a livable town because this can produce talented person to improve the town or city. Lastly, I learned how to solve the transportation problems which will face by the resident or people inside the town or city. To solve these problems must have a better transportation management so that the common problems like traffic jam can be avoid.

6.The New “X” City / The New NAME?REVIVE TOWN – A town on an island

How did you came up with the solution to create this new town The solutions to create this new town to a better town is mainly focus on its tourism to attract more tourists visit to the town so that the town can be more famous and interesting. Second is to create a better transportation network to solve the traffic problem. Next, create a shipping port to have some sea business to have extra income for the new town. Lastly, the electric supply is based on the hydroelectric power station.

What is the important characteristic and elements To create Revive Town, I have create a town square in the center of my town which is a monuments to represent my town statue. There is also a recreational park beside the center of the town to make the town look more like green city. The residential areas are having a green roof to provide better air quality around the residential area and also to moderate the urban heat island effect. There are also a mini garden behind every houses. This is to make my town looks greenish and interesting which can be a tourism place to attract the tourists. In additional, beaches beside my town also become attractive place for tourists to have some water sport activities and it also a nice place for relaxing.

Welson Lum Wei Jiunn | 0319514| Mr.Cherng Yih | FNBE APR 2014 | Taylor’s University12

Page 13: My final report for enbe revive town!! copy

ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Better Livable Town Representation

I had create a better transportation network to prevent the traffic jam in the town. The transportation linkage that has been create have 3 layers. Underground layer is for subway transportation, first layer have roads for cars, bicycles and people and the upper layer is for public transport which is bus only.

In additional, Revive Town also have a shipping port. This shipping port is part of business to increase the income of Revive Town. The shipping port also provide jobs for its residential. Lastly, Revive Town is a town on an island so a hydroelectric power station is created to use the sea water to generate electricity. This method can prevent pollutions happen, as a renewable source of energy that doesn't contribute to global warming and climate change like fossil fuels such as oil do.

Process of Revive Town I choose radial grid as my town grid. This is because normally island is round in shape. The reason why I choose the radial grid is I want all the sides of my town are balance which have the approaches of the sea. There will be the highest building which is the monument in the town square in the center of my town. My town name is Revive Town because before it change to a better livable town it was abandon town left aside by the city. Before this, Revive Town was a town used by the army to make their shelter during war and there were a lots of people sacrificed so people consider it a “dirty place”. After few years rebuild, this island have been create to be a livable town. My town area is about 28 KM2 and its population is between 100,000 peoples in Malaysia.

7. Conclusion

In this project I learnt a lot about building a town. There are many things to consider while building a town, not just doing it as you wanted to do so. I realized many things in our daily life which is so normal and ease to obtain is actually a giant structure underground such as the water supply system, sewage treatments and others. A good town is not based on its appearance but also sustainability, livability and much more different aspects which can make the town last longer in the future. Hence, we should really keep our town clean and protect our town, keep away from activities that may harm our town. Every town is the hard work of every constructor, designer and government which passed the unforgettable or difficult process to come out with a proper town. We as a resident should protect and enhance the place we live together and to produce a great living place for everyone.
