Lighting of the Advent Candle Louanna Sills
Leader: The wreath is round with no beginning or end, testifying
to the eternity of God’s creation.
People: The wreath is evergreen, recalling that our faith our
hope is alive.
The first candle is lit.
Leader: This Sunday we light the candle of hope, a reminder
that the prophets had their expectations of a Messiah
who would bring peace and love into the world.
People: Come, Lord Jesus! *Hymn - The Angels Song
Call to Worship Leader: Jesus said “I am the light of the world, the one who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. People: The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.
Leader: Those who have dwelt in the land of deep darkness, on
them light has shined!
People: Dear God, our world is in darkness. We need the light
of peace and love to shine in our world. Help us to
prepare our lives and homes to receive the Christ born
among us. Amen.
*Hymn - “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” GTG #88 (verses 1-4)
*Prayer of Confession (unison)

coming in to our lives. We do not believe that
salvation is near, we do not act uprightly, loving you,
our neighbors or ourselves. We do not bend our
swords into plowshares. Forgive us, we pray, that we
might once again walk in your light, choosing for the
world of Christ. Amen.
*Words of Assurance
Leader: This is the good news in Jesus Christ.
People: That we stand before God, not through our own
goodness,
Leader: But through God’s great kindness to us.
People: Rejoice and be glad, for God comes to us!
*Congregational Response - “ Glory To God” #583 GTG sing twice
Gloria, gloria, in Excelsis Deo.

WE RESPOND TO GOD’S WORD
*Affirmation of Faith - Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven
and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light,
begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all
things were made For us and for our salvation he came down
from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin
Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified
under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the
third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he
ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and
his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who pro-ceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Offering
“To give and then not feel that one has given
is the very best of all ways of giving.“
