    1/1

One of t he things I was most loo king f orward t o at Digit al Shoreditch, was the chance t o so cialise

and connect with like-minded at t endees. The f est ivals t heme t his year was making meaningful

connect ions, so with t hat spirit in mind, heres my personal assess ment of t he social experience

    at Digit al Shoreditch.

A 1 hour net working session t hat dedicat ed 5 minute s t o, er, actually net work. And this was nt the

biggest cr ime at least th is part icular ses sion actual ly addressed the concept of networking, as mos t

of the ses sions didn t a l locate any t ime for th is at a l l . Apart from one part icular ly fun and informat ive

ses sion from the guys at SwishThinking, which made part ic ipants s pl i t into br ing to l i fe a market ing

brief. And Im not just saying that because my team won the coveted Bonkers idea award either. It

    helped though.

The s ocial f est ival app, Lanyrd, was anything but s ocial. Though i t had an interested in m eet ing

feature, the app was nt well publ icise d, even on the day. Thos e that knew about it would probab ly have

struggled with the compl icated user i nterface. I a lso th ink the app would have been better i f i t had a

feature notifying you if the person you wanted to meet was within range. Ok, maybe that might be

sl ight ly sta lker-ish for som e, but I th ink i t would have s impl i f ied the task of locat ing who you wanted to

    meet.

Yo u ca nt ho ld a co mm unicat io ns ga l d o wn f o r lo ng. Despite the lack of formal opportuni t ies to

network with fellow Digital Shoreditch attendees, I did in fact meet a few interesting people on the day.

Shout out to my new Shoreditch best ies: Rhoda Cam pbel l f rom Bri t ish Columbia , Erika Bianco from

Data Art, Karel Kum ar from The Liquid Way, and Stephanie Hughes from SwishThinking . It s g ood to tal k.

My parting tho ught s. All in all , Digital Sh oreditch 2013 was a good day out to get out of the office and

meet d ig i ta l enthusias ts, hear som e discuss ions on the the direction of the industry, and ( i f you make

the extra effort) meet a few nice folks. It was an interesting experience!
