1.0 INTRODUCTION

The ABK/AFK series provide accurate, fast and versatile generalpurposetypeweighingscaleswithpartscounting,percentageweighingandcheckweighingfunctions.

TheABK/AFKhasLEDsnexttothedisplaytoindicatewhenaweightisbelowthelowlimit,inbetweenthelimitsorabovethehighlimit.Thesecanwork in conjunctionwith an audible alarm for checkweighing aswellasthedisplayshowingLO,OKandHI.

TheABK/AFKissuppliedwithaRS232bidirectionalinterfaceandrealtimeclock(RTC).

The ABK/AFK has a sealed keypad with colour coded membraneswitches, a large easy to read liquid crystal display (LCD) and a greenbacklight.

Included functions are automatic zero tracking, semiautomatic tareand an accumulation facility that allows theweight to be stored andrecalledasanaccumulatedtotal.

3.0 INSTALLATION

3.1 UNPACKING

TheABK/AFKscaleshavealreadybeenadjustedtoworkwithaplatformandhavebeen configured for this application. The platform and indicator have beencalibratedasapairandmustbeusedtogether.

3.2 LOCATING

The scales should not be placed in a location that willreducetheaccuracy.

Avoid extremes of temperature. Do not place in directsunlightornearairconditioningvents.

Avoidunsuitabletables.Thetableorfloormustberigidandnotvibrate.

Donotplacenearvibratingmachinery.

Avoid unstable power sources. Do not use near largeusers of electricity such aswelding equipment or largemotors.

Avoidoperatinginareasofhighstaticorweighingitemswhich generate a lot of static such as plastics orpowders. This will affect measurements and maydamage electronics. Use grounding mats or bondingstrapstoreducepotential.

Avoid high humidity that might cause condensation.Avoid direct contact with water. Do not spray orimmersethescalesinwater.

Avoidairmovementsuchasfromfansoropeningdoors.Do not place near open windows or airconditioningvents.

Keep the scales clean. Do not stack material on thescaleswhentheyarenotinuse.

3.3 SETTINGUPTHESCALES

Remove the base, pillar bracket and pillar from the packing. Turn the baseupsidedown,thencarefullypulltheloadcellcablethroughthepillarbracketandusingthe4screwssecurethepillarbrackettothebase.(fig.1)Placethecoverplateandsecureitwiththe2sidescrews.Thenscrewthe4feetonthebaseandaddthesmallfoottothebaseofthepillarbracketforextrastability.(fig.2)

Turnover thebase and fit the load cell cable through thepillar. Locate thepillarintothelowerpillarbracketusingthe3grubscrews,securethepillarinplace.(fig.3)

Slide the connector through thecircular stainless steel collar. Fit the rubbergland into thehole. (fig. 4) Fit the spare cable back in the pillar and fit thecollarontopofthepillar.(fig.5)

Attach the power to the indicator and press the [O/I] key. The softwarerevision number will be displayed followed by a selftest showing all digitsbeforethezeroisdisplayedalongwiththeunitofweightthatwaslastused.

SelectstheFunction parameters ofthescale.

A secondary function (C) is to act as a clear key whenclearinganaccumulatedtotal.

[M+/Print]ESC

Sends the results to a PC or a Printer using the RS232interface. It also adds the value to the accumulationmemoryiftheaccumulationfunctionisnotautomatic.

Asecondaryfunction(ESC)istoreturntonormaloperationwhenthescaleisinaParametersettingmode.

[O/I]

ToswitchtheIndicator onoroff.The ABK/AFK will store the weighing unit and the checkweighing values currently in use if power is powered off.Thesewillberecalledwhenthe Indicator isnextpoweredon

5.0 DISPLAYS TheLCDdisplaywillshowavalueaswellastheunitcurrentlybeingused.InadditiontheLEDsabovethedisplaywillshowwhenaweight isbelow, insideorabovethecheckweighinglimits.

Othersymbolswillshowwhenaweighthasbeentared(NET),thescaleisatzeroandstable,ifavaluehasbeenstoredinmemory,orwhentheanimalweighingfunctionhasbeenenabled.Abatterysymbolwillshowthestateofchargeoftheinternalbattery.

The scale can be set to accumulate manually by pressing the[M+/Print]Esckey,orautomaticallywhenaweightisremovedfromthescale.SeetheSection7.3ofthefullmanualfordetails.

6.7 PERCENTAGEWEIGHINGThe scale can be set to perform percentageweighing. See Section 7.2 of the fullversionoftheusermanualforcompletedetails.6.8 ANIMAL(DYNAMIC)WEIGHINGThescalecanbesettoanimal(dynamic)weighingforweighingany itemsthatareunstable ormaymove. 8.0 BATTERYOPERATION

Thescalescanbeoperatedfromthebatteryifdesired.Thebatterylifecan be up to 70 hours depending on the load cells and how thebacklightisused.

Abattery symbol is shownon thedisplaywhich indicates the current

chargeofthebattery,3barsmeansfullycharged.Whenjusttheoutlineof the battery and no bars are visible the battery needs to be recharged.

Tocharge thebattery, simplyplug theadaptor into themainspower,

andalso intothe inputconnectorontherearof the IndicatormarkedDC12V.Thescaledoesnotneedtobeturnedon.

Thebatteryshouldbechargedfor12hourstoreachfullcapacity.

Near the display is an LED to indicate the status of battery charging.

Whenthescaleispluggedintothemainspowertheinternalbatterywillbecharged.IftheLEDisgreenthebatteryhasafullcharge.If it isredthe battery is nearly discharged and yellow indicates the battery isbeingcharged.

9.0 RS232INTERFACE

The companyor its authorisedTechnician reservestherighttorepairorreplacethecomponentsatanyofitsworkshopsatnoadditionalcost,depending on the severity of the problems. However, any freight involved in sending thefaultyunitsorpartstotheServiceCentreshouldbebornebythepurchaser.Thewarrantywillceasetooperateiftheequipmentisnotreturnedintheoriginalpackagingand with correct documentation for a claim to be processed.
