On page 7, you will read about Boca Chamber Festival Days, a series of events where non-profit and for-profit companies connect to enhance our community held during the month of August. You will also learn about the Golden Bell Education Foundation. This foundation was created in 1991 and has since raised more than $1.2 Million to support Boca Raton’s K-12 public schools. We invite you to join us in September, for our Annual Membership Golden Bell Breakfast, where we will distribute grants to our schools.

I congratulate the Leadership Boca Class of 2014, the next generation of community-minded leaders, who graduated last month, and who are now part of our Leadership Alumni family. On page 17, we have a special message from Leadership Boca’s Chair, Brian Altschuler, that will give you a glimpse of the impact that Leadership Boca has on the community.

This May, we hosted the 6th Annual Southeast Region Saunders Scholars Competition, where hundreds of business and educational leaders, students and parents gathered to hear America’s top young entrepreneurs, aged 11-18, pitch their business plans. The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is a groundbreaking and exciting yearlong class that transforms middle and high school students into real, confident entrepreneurs. Throughout the class, students develop business ideas, write business plans, conduct market research, pitch their plans to a panel of investors, and actually launch and run their own real, legal, fully formed companies. There are 96 YEA! locations nationwide. The Boca Chamber was the first Chamber to offer the YEA! program in the state of Florida, 3 years ago, and has been administrating it with terrific success.

Lastly, I invite you to two of our marquee events. Wine & All That Jazz, one of Boca Raton’s largest wine tasting parties, on August 23rd and our Annual Celebration on October 25th. Both of these events are at the Boca Raton Resort & Club and both bring the community together.

Moving forward,

FROM OUR PRESIDENT

ENHANCING OUR COMMUNITY EVERY DAY

At the Boca Chamber, we understand that a strong community equals strong business. Since the Boca Chamber was established in 1952, we have been enhancing our community in many ways. We work hard to ensure that local commerce is advancing, that South Palm Beach County’s charitable needs are taken care of and that we can maintain a thriving economy that includes low taxes, award-wining parks and beaches and A-rated public schools.

COMMITTEE BRIEFS

The Boca Chamber is committed to the Healthcare in-dustry cluster as an economic driver in the city of Boca Raton and South Palm Beach County. South Healthcare Advocacy Network’s (S.H.A.N.) mission is to provide advocacy, lead-ership, education, and networking opportunities for health-care professionals in South East Florida. Together, S.H.A.N. and the Boca Chamber are a powerful source of information and education. If you are a professional in the healthcare in-dustry, S.H.A.N is a fascinating program designed just for you!

As part of our continued outreach to the community, the Boca Chamber provides YOU with opportunities to advance in your field and to learn and connect with colleagues, within the healthcare industry through the S.H.A.N program.

Not only is our South Healthcare Advocacy Network program informative and educational, it is also FREE for all healthcare professionals to attend!

The meetings are on the third Wednesday of each month at 8:30 a.m. and held at various locations.

Every business, no matter how large or small, operates within a world of policy, regulations, laws, and long-range planning. Most government officials want to have a strong relationship with the people they serve. Therefore, businesses and the organizations that represent them (such as the Boca Chamber) have a duty to express their opinions and interests on matters that affect their community. Whether in Washington DC, the state capitol or City hall, the opinions of people in the officials’ home district are the most important influences on their decision.

The Boca Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee’s purpose is to review, develop, and support issues that promote a positive, pro-active economic environment while embracing the excellent quality of life our city provides. The Chamber believes that laws and regulations should serve the public without acting as a detriment to business development and growth. Our purpose is to influence our elected officials to establish regulations and policies that will improve the ability of a business to compete in the worldwide economy and continue to generate income and jobs that will help to enhance South Palm Beach County. The issues are raised by the Chamber members and evaluated by the Government Affairs Committee with a recommendation to the Board of Directors of the Boca Chamber.

HEALTHCARE AND OUR ECONOMY

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRSLearn About What This Committee Does for You

Have you heard of S.H.A.N?

The Boca Chamber Ambassadors are a select, motivated and informed group of Chamber members who take great pride in representing the Boca Chamber. Ambassadors are committed to expanding their knowledge of Chamber affairs and are reputed as very reliable sources of information. They serve as the backbone of the Chamber’s membership and marketing program. Their efforts include volunteering at regularly scheduled Chamber events and programs, supporting fellow Chamber members at their ribbon cutting ceremony, meeting and welcoming every new Chamber member at the Boca Chamber’s monthly new member orientation and obtaining possible new member leads for the Boca Chamber’s sales department.

They are also the friendly faces who welcome new members at the well-attended monthly Breakfast and offer assistance with introductions to other Chamber members. They guide new members through events and conduct an introduction program to further learn about their represented business.

In addition, each year the Boca Chamber Ambassadors randomly select a community member or charity to partner with during Boca Chamber Festival Days to help raise money and awareness. This year the Ambassadors are proud to partner with the Tri-County Humane Society.

The Boca Chamber Ambassador group meets on the first Friday of every month. Boca Chamber members are encouraged to come and see if becoming part of this select group may be for you.

Most importantly the Boca Chamber Ambassadors know that to grow our Chamber, is to strengthen our community and in turn grow our own business.

CHAMBER UPDATES

BOCA CHAMBER FESTIVAL DAYSGet out and get involved this August!

With more than 35 events and thousands of participants, the Boca Chamber is gearing up for one of the best Boca Chamber Festival Days (BCFD) yet! BCFD has evolved into the Boca Chamber’s commitment to the non-profit community and has connected over half a

million people throughout the years. Throughout the month of August, residents of

South Palm Beach County get to travel from event to event, participating in everything that is great about this city. They can participate in the true meaning of community partnership as we bring together non-profit Boca Chamber members with for-profit Boca Chamber members for a month of fun-filled events to increase awareness and funding for the Chamber’s philanthropic efforts.

The Chamber is also excited to unveil the new BCFD ’14 logo created by students from the Marketing and Communications Class of West Boca High School. Students competed in a contest to create the new brand for Boca Chamber Festival Days. With over 20 entrees to choose from, the Chamber team selected Ashley Ramirez’s logo which depicts the environment in which we live with the sun representing a heart that is shining and warming our community.

Ramirez is in the 9th grade and has been enrolled in the Drafting and Design Academy, Communications Technology Program, for a year. This program covers many areas of study including Photoshop, InDesign, Corel Draw, and offers industry certification in Photoshop. Through this program, students can also expand their talents in the areas of photography, screen printing, embroidery, and other related areas. The Drafting and Design Program is one of the four National Model Academies at West Boca Raton High School.

The goal of the CYI is to raise the level of awareness of the multi-system needs of caregiving youth along with solutions for their support through the multiple initiatives of C.A.R.E. The establishment of the CYI is in direct response to the growing number of caregiving youth who are unrecognized, invisible and falling through the cracks at school; youth who, with support, will become healthy, educated and productive adults. Unlike other countries including the United Kingdom, there are no professional or public opportunities in the U.S. focused on any of the four dimensions of C.A.R.E. as they relate to the issues and solutions of this hidden population.

The Boca Chamber YEA! Program graduated 20 students and created 8 businesses from its 2013-2014 class of young entrepreneurs. After eight months of hard work, in partnership with the FAU Adams Center for Entrepreneurship, this year’s instructors Chim Francisco, Kimberly Gramm and Bonnie Kaye, awarded the class their diplomas, alongside Ethel Isaacs Williams, Vice Chair of the Boca Chamber Board of Directors, and the program’s director, Beth Johnston. The Boca Chamber Board of Directors, and family and friends of the students gathered to honor the class.

LEADERSHIP BOCA

By Brian Altschuler, Leadership Boca Chair 2014

As Chair of the 2014 Leadership Boca class it is difficult for me to believe we just graduated the next generation of community minded leaders. Welcome to the Leadership Boca Alumni! As an Alumn, you won’t receive a call from the Chamber asking for donations, you are just asked to embrace this amazing community in a fashion that moves you.

The Leadership Class of 2014 comprised of 30 business leaders experienced everything from how government functions to the impact non-profits have on the lives of people in South Palm Beach County. The truth is, it is not only about all the dynamic parts of this community they learned so much about, but what they learned about themselves as well.

This is my third and hardest piece to write for the Chamber as this will end my three year journey with the Leadership Boca program. I have shared so many Wednesday’s with amazing, dedicated, caring, and innovative people. I have grown a lot through the last 3 years. The biggest gift I received during this time is connecting and learning from the amazing participants thus creating relationships that will last a lifetime!

LEADERSHIP BOCA 2014A Message From the 2014 Leadership Boca Chair

From new beginnings with the George Snow Scholarship Foundation, to helping build a strong internal Leadership Boca Alumni group at Boca Regional, I am eternally grateful for the strong foundation put in place by my participation in Leadership Boca. As a leader in human resources, I am frequently asked what will help me advance my career?

Leadership Boca will not only help you advance your professional life, but personal. Consider making a difference all around by applying for this competitive program today! Applications for the 2015 class are now available. Contact Chasity Navarro at [email protected] for more information.

GOLDEN BELL23 Years of Giving and More than 1.2 Million Donated

The Boca Chamber Education Foundation, Inc., known as Golden Bell, is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation that was created by the Chamber’s Board of Directors as a separate operating entity for the sole purpose of supporting the Boca Raton Public School System. Since its inception in 1991, Golden Bell has granted more than $1.2 Million to Boca Raton’s K-12 public schools. Now, on the cusp of its 23rd Anniversary, the Foundation’s Board of Directors believes that, now more than ever, a quality education is the cornerstone of a successful business community. Help us reach on our March to $1 Million More!

Public Speaking Seminar

You may know the Boca Chamber as the “networking nucleus” of South Palm Beach County, but we are gaining momentum as leaders in business-building education as well. In order to maintain our commitment to advance our business community, we offer the best and most applicable educational seminars and workshops available. And this all comes FREE with your Boca Chamber membership!

Public Speaking SeminarEach business day, companies around the world hold more than 11 million meetings: Some productive, some not very productive at all. Therefore, it is clear that creating effective meetings is a skill that every professional in every industry needs to know. Your Chamber provides a free public speaking seminar that will empower managers, supervisors and team leaders with the ability to gain control of one of the world’s biggest time robbers: ineffective meetings. Whether it is a sales meeting, a staff retreat or a one-on-one consultation, it needs to be effective, efficient, and a guaranteed success.

Tech Seminars From cloud computing to social media and video production, our tech seminars are a great way to be informed about the latest technologies and learn how to use them effectively. Our most recent tech forum, entitled “Forecast for Your Technology Future,” focused on conversion, CRM’s and retargeting, was a complete success. We invite you to check the calendar for our next all-star paneled tech forum!

From How to WowThis workshop will help you maximize your chamber membership and create an endless stream of prospects, network more effectively, leverage partnerships and build your personal brand. From How to Wow is a bi-monthly workshop facilitated by Greta Schulz, President & CEO of Schulz SELLutions, based in West Palm Beach. She has been involved in sales, sales management, marketing, and training for almost thirty years. She is a national columnist of “Sellutions” in over 30 Business Journals across the country and a contributing author of New York Times bestseller Masters of Sales. Greta has her own bestseller she’s written called, To Sell is NOT to Sell.
