Inspired by creative spirit, driven by endless entrepreneurial energy, and

enabled by a capitalist economy, over the last 150 years, business leadershave created the Industrial Society, then the Information Society, and now,the Knowledge Society.

For us at Cotrugli knowledge is information transformed by human wisdom.By any measure, this progression of transitions has been an incredible jour-ney of growth and innovation within the business community. However, the 21st century has launched a spectrum of global challengesunlike any humankind has faced since our first ancestors appeared on thismagnificent planet. Many of these challenges are a consequence of our

growth and progress over the last century.

They include complex issues in areas such as energy, the environment, cli-mate change, poverty, and healthcare. Every one of these issues will changethe way we do business as we build our future. Companies now require anew kind of leaderone who is holistically trained and in tune with the pa-rameters that affect these issues because they are increasingly connected tobusiness performance as well as the welfare of society.

Holistic educational strategies that stress a balance of body, mind and spiritare critical in training leaders and entrepreneurs for this brave new world.Cotrugli is a world leader in developing such strategies and inculcating theminto its curriculum. We are committed to further this development at the lead-ing edge, so that our graduates can address these great challenges andcreate a better future for both business and society.

To highlight our understanding of importance of innovation in todayschanging world but keep the traditional values, our school is named after a

man who wrote on this subject over 500 years ago.

Benedetto Cotrugli was born in Dubrovnik, Croatia in 1416. He was amerchant by profession, a humanist by education, a scientist by vocationand a diplomat by invitation. His book, The Art of Trade, written in 1458,is credited with being the first to describe the principles and methods ofDouble Entry Bookkeeping. More important for our story, he also describedprinciples of personal development and the importance of ethics in busi-

ness. Principles which remain very much alive today.
