Evangelization 101: Our Lady and the New Evangelization

What’s the secret to all great evangelizing? The Blessed Virgin Mary. While we might participate in the Lord’s work of converting hearts to Jesus, Mary has been known to convert entire conti-nents. The story of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a wonderful example of how quickly and easily she brings people to her Son.

We all know that relying purely on our own efforts to evangelize isn’t the answer. All evangelization must begin with prayer. All good evangelization begins with Mary. Let’s turn ourselves, our ministries, and our parish over to Mary, asking her to quickly convert hearts and bring them closer to her Son.

Here are some suggestions for entrusting our evangelizing mission to Mary: Pray the Rosary Pray the Rosary for your own conversion and growth in holiness. In addition, pray it form those who are far away from God, mentioning them by name in your prayer. Considering praying the Rosary using the Rosary for Evangelization pamphlet enclosed in this bulletin.

Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Consecrate yourself and your ministry to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This will give our Lady full permission to enter your life and ministry and fill it with her own fruitfulness. Consider using one of these resources to make an act of total consecration to Jesus through Mary:

St. Louis de Monfort, Preparation for Total Consecration Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, 33 Days to Morning Glory

Bring Our Lady into Your evangelizing efforts. The Blessed Virgin Mary plays an important role in introducing our friends and neighbors to Jesus. On the cross, Christ gave her to us as our Mother and our Advocate. Tell your friends about her and how has helped you grow in your relationship with Jesus. Do this as early as possible so that Mary can smooth that person’s way to becoming a disciple. Peace!

Fr. Aaron
