Carbure de Tungstène

Tungsten carbide

Nowadays, micro particle (<1 μm) tung-sten carbide based on wolfram/cobalt is used for the manufacture of burs for the dental practice. Tungsten Carbide is a material that is produced by pow-der metallurgy. It is composed of 94% wolfram as the hard metal component and 6% cobalt as the binder. The mate-rial has a natural hardness of approx. 1,600 HV (Vickers hardness). Tungsten Carbide blades are ground without nicks and notches to guarantee perfect results every time.

To obtain a perfectly ground blade with-out chipping, the residual porosity of the carbide is removed by hot isostatic pressing.

Every day, dental and oral surgeons benefit from the constant develop-ment of special blade geometries and state-of-the-art production technolo-gies. A look back in time illustrates the evolution of our different toothings: To begin with, we had the toothing with uninterrupted blades (H161), followed by serrated toothing (H162), i.e. blades interrupted by cross-sections and finally Komet’s special “right-right” toothing (H162A) with its powerful cutting per-formance and low vibrations.

De nos jours pour les fraises de cabinet, on utilise du carbure de Tungstène à micro-parti-cules (<1μm), sur la base du Wolfram/Cobalt. Le carbure de Tungstène est un matériau de coupe produit de la métallurgie des poudres,dont la composition type est 94 % de Wolfram comme métal dur et 6 % de Cobalt comme agent de liaison. C'est un matériau d'une dureté naturelle d'environ 1600 HV (dureté Vickers). Les lames des fraises en carbure de Tungstène sont rectifiées sans éclats. Les instruments ainsi usinés garantissent, lors de leur utilisation, un résultat optimal. Pour obtenir une lame bien rectifiée et non ébréchée, la porosité restante du carbure est éliminée par surfrittage isostatique HIP (hot isostatic pressing).

Chaque jour, les chirurgiens-dentistes et les chirurgiens maxillo-faciaux bénéficient du développement continu des géométries de lames et des méthodes de production de pointe. Une rétrospective chronologique nous montre l’évolution de nos dentures : au commencement était la denture avec des lames continues (H161), suivie par la denture de scie (H162) avec des lames interrompues par une coupe transversale, et finalement la denture spéciale Komet « droite/droite » (H162A), avec une grande efficacité de coupe ainsi que peu de vibrations.

Instruments made of high-per-formance ceramics

A multi talent on the advance Thanks to its outstanding properties, ceramic has proved invaluable in a vast range of applications for decades. Ceramic materials are not only establis-hed in the dental field, for example for implant abutments, but also in ortho-paedics, for example for ball shaped heads used in hip surgery. Ceramics are also successfully used for industrial components that are particularly prone to wear – such as axes and plain bea-rings – as well as in chemistry and elec-trical engineering. All these are perfect reasons for making use of the impressi-ve advantages of this material. Outstanding properties Thanks to its excellent properties, ceramic comes up to even the highest expectations. It is highly resistant to pressure, to wear and tear and to aggressive chemical substances. The favourable electric and magnetic characteristics of ceramics are used in a variety of applications. The ceramic instruments contained in Komet’s CeraLine series are made of special, high performance ceramics composed of zircon-dioxide ceramic partly stabi-lized by yttrium and aluminium ceramic. The mixture of these two established materials provides CeraLine with an above-average bending strength of 2,000 MPa. In comparison, the bending strength of zirconium oxide ceramic which is used, amongst other things, for the manu-facture of root posts, is 1,200 MPa. It is this special mixture that allows this material to be used in the manufacture of rotary cutting instruments. The HIP production process (Hot-Isostatic-Pressing) further densifies the material. Biocompatible – 100% metal-free Ceramic is distinguished by its absolute biocompatibility, enabling patients to be treated without being exposed to met.

Depuis des dizaines d‘années, la céramique a démontré ses remarquables propriétés dans de multiples domaines. Les matériaux en céramique sont utilisés en dentisterie, par ex. pour les piliers implantaires, en orthopédie pour les têtes de prothèses de hanche, dans l‘industrie pour les composants fortement sollicités tels que les axes, les roulements à billes ou bien encore en chimie et en élec-tronique. De bonnes raisons d‘exploiter les performances de ce matériau. La céramique satisfait aux exigences les plus extrêmes grâce à ses extraordinaires carac-téristiques, notamment sa résistance à la compression, à l‘usure ou à l‘agressivité des produits chimiques. Ses propriétés électriques et magnétiques sont appréciées pour certaines indications. Les instruments de la gamme Ceraline Komet sont en céramique de dioxyde de zir-conium partiellement stabilisée à l‘yttrium et en céramique d‘alumine. Le mélange de ces deux matériaux éprouvés confère à la gamme Ceraline une résistance à la flexion de 2.000 MPa, bien supérieure à la moyenne. A titre de comparaison, celle de la céramique d‘oxyde de zirconium, utilisée par ex. pour concevoir des tenons radiculaires, est de 1.200 MPa. Seule l‘association spécifique de ces matériaux permet la fabrication d‘instruments de coupe rotatifs. Le procédé de production HIP (Hot-Isostatic-Pressing) assure une densification complé-mentaire du matériau. La céramique se distingue en particulier par sa biocompatibilité. Les patients sont donc traités sans aucun risque de libération d‘ions métalliques. Travailler avec les instruments Ceraline c‘est aussi une façon de protéger les patients des sollicitations liées aux matériaux. Les instru-ments en céramique de Komet complètent parfaitement la stratégie du tout céramique en implantologie.

Contrary to cutting instruments, diamond coated cutters work in abrasive mode. The round shape can for example be used for mobilising a lateral bone window as part of a sinus lift.

Pilot burs

Universal pilot drills made of ceramics and stainless steel for use in implantology

The universal pilot burs have been designed for initial preparation of the implant site axis and depth. If an implant with a large diameter has to be inserted, we recommend enlarging the perforation gradually. Thanks to their small diameter, the pilot burs are parti-cularly suitable for palpating the implant position or perforating bone blocks. What’s more, the pilot burs are also ideally suited for creating a continuous perforation line in the jaw.

Avantages : • Large spaces to guarantee effective chip removal• Pyramid-shaped tip to facilitate penetration• Excellent cutting performance• Laser etched depth marks in intervals of 2 mm, starting at 8 mm from the tip of the instrument• For ease of identification, the size and the depth of the instrument are laser etched in the shank at 8 mm form the tip of the instrument

Forets pilotes universels en céramique et acier inoxydable pour l’implantologie

Ces forets pilotes universels s’utilisent pour la préparation initiale de l’axe et la profondeur du site implantaire. Au cas où un implant avec grand diamètre doit être posé, nous recommandons d‘élargir la perforation par étapes. Grâce à leur petit diamètre, ces forets pilotes sont particulièrement appro-priés pour la palpation de la position de l’implant ou pour la perforation des greffons osseux. Ils sont également adaptés à la créa-tion d’une ligne de perforation continue dans la mâchoire.

A range of functional bur blocks is available for cleaning, disinfection, storage and sterilization of dental ins-truments. These bur blocks facilitate the cleaning and disinfection of the instruments in the thermo disinfector, whereas the ste-rilization takes place in the autoclave.
