A Grade 12 pupil at Mulenga High School, Pfano “Screamer” Nare (18), was shot in the back of his head on Friday night and later died in Mankweng Hospital near Polokwane.

The incident happened on the Manyii Bridge at around 20:00 in Nzhelele.

According to the deceased’s 21-year-old male friend, who was with him when the incident took place, three of them were walking home from doing an odd job at a nearby village, when they noticed an on-coming vehicle. The driver stopped near them and observed them briefl y before he passed.

“We didn’t even look at him as he drove away,” said the deceased’s friend, who couldn’t be named to protect his identity as police investi-gations are still continuing.

Soon after they heard the car reversing and the strident sound of several gun shots fi lled the air. Screamer collapsed in front of his friend, while the other man ran away. The friend tried to help Screamer to his feet, thinking that he had tripped. “But my friend couldn’t speak and that was when I realised he had a bullet wound to his head,” said the friend. He said that he then rushed to Screamer’s home to notify his family about the incident.

The spokesperson for the Mphephu police, W/O Lazarus Netshidzati, confi rmed that a suspect was arrested and initially charged with attempted murder while the victim was still being treated at the provincial hospital. “The

56-year-old Esrom Mabirimisa appeared in court on Monday and his case was postponed to 6 May for further investigations,” said Netshidzati.

Netshidzati added that the suspect’s charge was changed from attempted murder to murder, after the victim had reportedly died in the early hours of Monday. According to the police, Mabirimisa had laid a charge of attempted car hi-jacking against the deceased and the other two men who were with him.

It is said that the suspect claims that the three men had gathered a heap of stones by the roadside and were throwing the stones at his car.

During the incident, it is alleged, the suspect fi red at least two shots in the air and fi ve shots towards the people whom he saw as possible car-hijackers, said the police.

The deceased’s sister, Vhonani Nare, stated that she still did not under-stand why her brother had to die such a cruel death. “It’s unbelievable that my brother is dead,” she said.

jovial conversations. “He was a brilliant pupil who even man-

aged to score an average of 80% in the March exams.”

Pfano will be buried at Manyii cementery on Saturday at 06:00.

Australian mining company Coal of Africa Limited (CoAL) experienced a very unstable end to their third quarter, which ended on 31 March 2013. Even so, they have no inten-tion of stopping development of their various projects in the water-sensitive Soutpansberg coal field.

This state of affairs was revealed in a quarterly report that CoAL released on Monday.

CoAL’s export coal sales took a 34.1% plummet to 271 069 tonnes in the March 2013 quarter, compared to the preceding quarter. Domestic coal sales also decreased with 27.1% to 112 440 tonnes, compared to the previous quarter.

This was largely due to CoAL’s waning resources at their Vuna col-liery in Middelburg.

In addition, the mine was hit hard when their Vele colliery here in the Soutpansberg flooded in January this year.

Vele received more than 500mm of rainfall in four days, flooding the open-cast coal pit and forcing CoAL to close down operations for three whole weeks. Shortly after the floods, in February, the collapse of a bridge along the Matola railway line also prevented CoAL from exporting coal. The railway, which is operated by Transnet Freight Rail, runs from Vele through to the Matola terminal in southern Mozambique, from where the coal is exported.

Wallington confirmed in the report that the bridge was fixed on 19 April and that CoAL is expected to start exporting coal by mid-May.

With an eye to the future, CoAL said they expected to spend around $15.0 million in development projects for the June 2013 quarter. This will include expansion and upgrading work to be done at Vele, as well as the completion of their Makhado project’s feasibility study and drill-ing and exploration work at their MbeuYashu project.

The MbeuYashu project is the new name that CoAL gave their Greater Soutpansberg Project (GSP). The GSP incorporates CoAL’s Chapudi, Mopane and Makhado projects. The new name was decided on during the March 2013 quarter, when CoAL continued to compile exploration and technical data on the GSP project. CoAL has confirmed that, as soon as the exploration work is done, that they will start applying for the various new order mining rights to start min-ing at MbeuYashu. For the Makhado project, which is 65km south-west of Musina, CoAL is currently waiting that their mining right be granted, subject to completing a black-eco-nomic-empowerment transaction for the project.

For this project, CoAL apperently admitted during an info meeting held at Tshipise on 20 April that they are still not sure where the water will come from.

Hawkers who sell their goods next to the taxi ranks in the centre of Makhado town were left stranded after their shacks had been destroyed by a fire last Wednesday night.

Twenty shacks were destroyed by the fire, which might have been started by jealous rivals.

A security guard who works next to the taxi rank, Mr Samuel Muthelo, said that the fire started at one of the shacks around midnight. “When I saw the fire, it had already destroyed one shack and the other shacks were burning,” he said. “We then called fire fighters, but when they arrived with a water tanker, the fire had already destroyed the shacks,” he said. The fire was extinguished in a matter of minutes, but by that time most of the shacks had been reduced to ashes.

When Mirror arrived at the scene last Thursday morning, the hawkers were busy cleaning up. One of the hawkers whose shack had burnt down, Ms Dorah Ramuth-

ivheli, said that she had lost everything. She saw the smoke from a distance when approaching the market area early the next morning. “I thought somebody was just burning dustbins near the taxi rank, but was shocked when I arrived there to find out that the shacks had burnt down,” she said.

She added that she did not understand what the motive for the arson attack could be, as they had no enemies. “Whoever burned down my shack has caused great damage to my family. I lost everything that belonged to me, from stock to my chairs and tables,” she said. The damage is estimated at R70 000. She said that the hawkers were now facing difficult times. “We do not even have a decent place to put our things,” she said.

Ramuthivheli appealed to people to assist them during this difficult time. “I don’t know how I am going to rebuild my shack, because I don’t have money,” Ramuthivheli said. The spokesperson for

the Makhado police, Capt Maano Sadiki, confirmed the incident. “We have opened a case of arson and we are continuing with investigations,” he said. He was sceptical about claims that the burning of the shack was an act of arson. “The cause of the fire is unknown,” he said.

Makhado Hawkers’ Association spokesperson Mr Dollen Negota warned people not to jump to conclusions. “We need to be very cautious,” said Negota. “If it is a person who started this fire, then the police will find out. People are, however, using gas stoves and paraffin primus stoves to cook, which also is not safe,” he said. Negota appealed to the local municipality to allow them to use nearby electrical connections. He argued that this will help prevent fires which may pose a danger to buses and taxis.

Makhado Municipality spokesperson Louis Bobodi conveyed the municipality’s sympathy to the vendors and hawkers who were affected by the fire.

Court stops Tshivhase from appointing leaders

If the recent order granted by the Limpopo High Court in Thohoyan-dou to the Nemavhola Royal Family of Tshipako is anything to go by, the marathon installation of chiefs by Mailausumbwa Kennedy Tshivhase has reached a dead end.

The Nemavhola Royal Family suc-ceeded and the court ordered that the recent installation of two chiefs, Wilson Khukhuna Nemavhola and Nthatheni Joseph Tshikovhi, is null and void and has no legal effect.

The court also ordered that Mailau-sumbwa Kennedy Tshivhase must not appoint any person as a traditional leader of Tshipako without the knowledge and consent of the Nemavhola Royal Family and/or in accordance with the Limpopo Traditional Leadership and Institution Act.

The court also ordered that Wilson Khukhuna Nemavhola and Nthatheni Joseph Tshikovhi stop performing any duties or proclaiming themselves as chiefs of Tshipako village. The respon-dents were also ordered to bear the costs of the application.

The latest development could set a precedent that many chiefs whose areas were given to other chiefs could follow. Mailausumbwa Kennedy Tshivhase has installed many chiefs and promoted ordinary chiefs to positions of deputy-Thovhele and Thovhele since last year.

The move has been widely criticised and received condemnation from the House of Traditional Leaders and in government circles. In some instances, installations were disrupted and the new chiefs could not be installed, while in some instances they were interdicted, and some chiefs were allegedly installed under the cover of darkness.

The Tshivhase Royal Family has ex-pressed concern over the recent develop-ments in the area.

A letter has been written to the premier of Limpopo, the premier’s office Lim-popo, the MEC (COGHSTA) in Limpopo Province, the Limpopo provincial house of traditional leaders and the Tshivhase traditional council chairperson. Leslie Tshivhase, the interim chairperson of the royal family, said that despite circulars from the premier’s office and visits by the provincial house of traditional leaders to discourage Thovhele Tshivhase from appointing traditional leaders contrary to legislation, he had continued doing so.

He is said to have appointed a new traditional leader in the area under headman Makumbane of Tshisahulu on 27 April. Makumbane is said to have complained about the development to the Tshivhase royal family, who told him that Tshivhase’s problems were being handled by the premier.

“To our utter disappointment and dis-may, however, we received information on Saturday that Thovhele Tshivhase was going about boasting that the premier

had paid him a visit on 13 April and that the premier authorised him to continue appointing traditional leaders, as long as he submitted a draft document of his new programme to the premier’s office.

He is also alleged to have mentioned that the premier came with a gift in the amount of R10 000,” said Leslie Tshivhase.

Leslie said if it was indeed so that the premier had found any justification for Thovhele Tshivhase’s actions, they were bringing it to his attention that the Limpopo High Court has ruled in the case of headman Nemavhola of Tshipako that such appointments are null and void and of no legal consequence.

He said they had attached a copy of the judgment for his attention. “In the circumstances and as prevailing indica-tors suggest that the premier sympathises with Thovhele Tshivhase, we are hereby calling upon the premier to respond to our submissions within seven days. If he fails to do so, we shall request all concerned headmen to organise their communities for a march to the premier’s office to demand a response. If we still do not get a response, we shall take the matter to court,” reads the letter.

Meanwhile, the Mafunzwaini and the Nemakanga royal families have inter-dicted Chief Jerry Tshivhase and Chief Ramulongo, while the Sikhwivhilu and Ratshikhopha royal families have inter-dicted Enoch Nephalela and Balanganani Sikhwivhilu.

The two cases are to be heard at the Limpopo High Court in Thohoyandou on 27 May 2013.

The outcome of these cases might set a precedent whereby other aggrieved traditional leaders could follow the same legal route.

CoAL to continue projects

Motorist attacked and robbedA 69-year-old Beit Bridge man was attacked by three unknown assail-ants, who waylaid him at a lay-bye along the highway leading to Beit Bridge Border Post.

The suspects later robbed the vic-tim of US$700 and two cellphones. They then attempted to shoot him with a rifle, which they had found inside his car. The man escaped death, however, after his assailants failed to operate the firearm.

Local police spokesperson Chief Supt Lawrence Chinhengo said the incident occurred last Friday at around 11:00 at the 225 km peg along the Beit Bridge-Bulawayo road. “Mr Thikhathali Rueben Hangwani was driving towards Beit Bridge Border Post and, on approaching Makhado, he decided to make a stopover. Soon after parking his vehicle, three men emerged from a nearby bush,” he said. The suspects confronted Hangwani and demanded money.

the three men to attack him before they robbed him of US$700 and two cell phones. “They then ransacked his car and found a .303 rifle. They tried to shoot the victim, but fortunately they failed to operate the firearm. They dumped the firearm at the scene and fled, leaving the victim lying unconscious,” Chinhengo said.

Hangwani was spotted by a Good Samaritan, who then rushed him to Beit Bridge District Hospital before reporting to the police.

Chinhengo said no arrests had been made, adding that they had since launched a manhunt for the suspects.

“We are appealing to anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of the three men to inform us or visit any nearest police station,” he said.

Chinhengo warned motorists against parking in secluded places. He said they had since deployed po-lice officers to patrol along the major highways.

Charismatic SABC boss, Victor Ravhuanzwo buriedThousands of mourners from around the province attended the funeral of well-known Limpopo SABC regional general manager

The funeral was attended by, among others, the SABC Chief Op-

erations Officer, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale, MEC for Education Dickson Mase-mola, MEC for Safety and Security Florence Radzilani, MEC for Pub-lic Works Thabitha Mohlala and Vhembe Executive Mayor Tshitereke Matibe.

Ravhuanzwo (55) passed away in the Polokwane MediClinic a fortnight ago and was buried in the Lukau graveyard, about 140 km from Makhado (Louis Trichardt).

Premier Cassel Mathale said that the govern-ment, SABC officials, community members around Limpopo, family and friends were still shocked about the untimely death of the dedicated, disci-plined and charismatic Ravhuanzwo. “We are

greatly saddened about the untimely death of Ravhuanzwo. Our province has been robbed of a committed, hard worker and we will miss him,” said Mathale.

Mr Motsoeneng said that Ravhuan-zwo’s family produced a soldier for the country and the public broad-caster. “We lost a great man,” he added. According to him, the SABC has lost one of its pillars, who had always been working hard towards the development of the community.

A daughter of Mr Ravhuanzwo, Ms Portia Ravhuanzwo, said the family had suffered a great loss with the death of their father. “It is painful to lose an intelligent father, but we thank God because he does everything for a reason,” she said.

“Writing a book has never been easy, but it is a rewarding experi-ence,” said Nadja Manghezi dur-ing a celebration of international World Book Day.

The event was once again held at the public library in Makhado last Tuesday (23 April).

Manghezi is author of Maputo Connection, a book based on personal encounters with the ANC as an under-ground movement in Mozambique. “I went through piles and piles of magazines, books and other related papers as I did my research for the book,” she said, encouraging aspirant writers to work hard if they happen to consider writing books.

She revealed that it has become difficult to have a book published in the digital age. “It’s so expensive to publish a book,” she said. “Most publishers will only take you when you’re super good.”

One of the literary elders and an academic, Prof Nthambeleni Pha-lanndwa, spoke of his literary rela-tionship with Vho-Maano Tuwani, the manager of Guyo Book Services in Makhado, and indicated that he had read no fewer than 200 titles from

the African Writers Series. “Maano introduced me to the series,” he said.

Phalanndwa read a love poem which he had written and published inStaffrider magazine some decades ago, when he was still a lad who was deeply fascinated by the love of exploring and displaying his artistic abilities.

New books on display were the recently published Way Back Home by Niq Mhlongo, and a volume of a literary journal, Timbila 7.

Timbila is a platform for both unpublished, aspirant writers and established authors to have their work tested before they consider submit-ting works to mainstream publishers. Although the journal publishes other forms of literature, such as short fic-tion, essays and interviews with writ-ers and artists, its core focus is poetry.

Library assistant Ms Maureen Rivisi explained how the library oper-ates and encouraged people to come to register for membership as regular library users. She further indicated that the doors of the library were always open for anyone who would like to book the hall for a venue for book-related events.

Fed-up parents lock pupils and teachers out of schoolThe fed-up community of Tshikwarani in the Kutama area vented their anger by shutting down the Khogonyane Primary School two weeks ago. The parents are also upset with the Limpopo Department of Education’s failure to provide mobile classes.

A tug of war is currently underway between the department and the school management, parents and guardians. The school governing body (SGB) locked the educators and learners out of the buildings, arguing that the classrooms are on the verge of collapsing.

The school has 407 learners and 12 educators, starting from Grade R up to 4. The classes were built by the community in the early seventies. Some 40 years later, the roofs are leaking, the floors have cracked up and are full of holes and termites have destroyed the roof structure.

The deputy-chairperson of the SGB, Ms Su-zan Mashosho, said the conditions at the school made it very difficult for education to proceed smoothly. “The walls and roof may fall in at any time. We risk our lives and those of our children every day,” she said.

Mashosho said they always found snakes and scorpions seeking refuge in the dilapidated classes. “We have applied many times to the department for classes, but our pleas have not yielded any fruits,” she said.

Mashosho said that mobile classrooms could alleviate the situation as the lack of classrooms was a matter that required urgent attention. “Either that or else government must build classes for our children. Look at other schools

in the province and you’ll see that they have the luxury of air-conditioners.”

“We were told in 2009, when we met with officials of the department in Polok-wane, that they would build classes, but they never fulfilled the promises. Something must be done before we lose our lives in this risky situation. We want the MEC for Education, Dick-son Masemola, to come down and see the conditions where our learners are being taught.”

The spokesperson for the Department of Education, Mr Pat Kgomo, said that there was a backlog in the department. He said that many schools around the province were run-ning short of classes. He said that they were going to build ten new classrooms and ap-pealed to the commu-nity not to disturb the education process and to allow the children and educators to go back to class.

“What about the empowerment of men?”Men who attended a gender-based-violence seminar at Tshifulanani on Friday said the government was not doing enough in terms of empowerment.

According to the men, the government is giving all the attention to women, which leads to more and more women falling victim to violence.

The seminar, the brainchild of the Vhembe District Municipality’s special programmes unit, in partnership with Munna Ndi Nnyi, was held at the forum’s offices outside Thohoyandou.

The coordinator of the seminar, Mr Khathu Mapholi, said there had been many incidents of violence perpetrated against women and children in Vhembe. “Violence is escalating in the Th-ulamela area, unlike in other municipalities, which prompted us to invite stakeholders like civics, royal councils, the older persons forum, the dis-ability forum, pastors forums, Munna Ndi Nnyi, The Victorious Community, Legal Aid Thohoyandou and the Moral Regeneration Movement. They all responded positively and they all gave their maxi-mum participation, which gives us hope that the

end is near for abusers,” he said.Participants deliberated on how gender-based

violence could be ended but could not come up with resolutions because of time constraints.

Pastor Godfrey Ndou of the Shayandima Full Gospel Church said government was not doing enough to empower men, who are in most cases the suspected perpetrators of violence. “We are ready to be empowered. We need days which are dedicated to us as men.

Women have many days that are observed throughout the year, but there is nothing for us men. We need a day specifically for us. We need to share with other men how to be real men and this spiral of violence will come to an end,” he said.

The Munna Ndi Nnyi Men’s Forum chairperson, Mr Bardwell Mufunwaini, said gender-based vio-lence was a source of concern in the community. “We are not yet there; there is still much to be done and forums like these are necessary. We have to go out to the people, have meetings with chiefs and their subjects and this could lead to a solution to this problem,” he said.

Thereafter, he worked for Rivoni, Old Mutual and Sanlam until he became mentally ill in 1998. He will be missed by his wife Maartje and his children Ian, Marijke, Anika, Rendani and Mashudu, as well as the Venda community, especially around Siloam, Nzhelele.

The Makhado Municipality’s financial situation is riddled with “management mistakes.”

This shocking state of affairs in the municipal-ity’s financial department came to light during a meeting between the municipal public accounts committee (MPAC) and the auditor general (AG) on Wednesday, 10 April. During the meeting, the municipal financial reports for the 2011/12 book year were under scrutiny.

Members of the MPAC not only grilled the AG with questions, but also the municipality’s chief accountant, Mr Sakkie Mutshinyali, regarding the muddled state of the municipality’s financial situ-ation. In particular, blatant irregularities in respect of certain municipal purchases were highlighted during the meeting.

Several questions were also asked regard-ing irregularities in previous years’ reports. An anomaly that was highlighted during the meeting was the R33 169 661 the municipality spent, during 2011/12, on day-to-day expenses such as salaries. This was, according to the municipality, due to “severe financial challenges” that they experienced. The R33 million was originally budgeted for the municipality to use in community development projects. According to Mutshinyali, the municipal-ity also used a part of this money to pay municipal service providers such as Eskom.

A further irregularity that was a stick in the throat of MPAC members was an old complaint that was raised in previous financial years regard-ing the municipality’s spending on certain movable assests. An example that was given was the JoJo water tanks bought by the municipality. In 2002, the municipality acquired two 10 000-litre tanks for R2 300 and R581.23 respectively. In the very same year, the municipality also bought a 5 000-liter JoJo tank for a mere R100. Three years later, the municipality bought another 10 000-litre JoJo tank for the bargain price of R150. MPAC members were, like previous financial years, not satisfied with the answers of the municipality. Due to the “management oversight and challenges” that they exeperienced, the municipality will investigate the matter further and report back on the tanks issue next year. During the meeting, the Makhado Mu-nicipality pointed an accusing finger at the Vhembe District Municipality, as well as local consumers who don’t pay their accounts as the reason behind the municipality’s “financial challenges.” Many of the errors that were pointed out to the municipality by the MPAC were due to “management mistakes.”

Mutshinyali gave the committee the assurance that the financial clerks were sent for training to ensure that they would know how to do better accounting.

Cllr extends olive branchThe newly elected councillor for Thulamela Ward 33, Mr Thomani Thabela, has extended an olive branch to other political parties to work together for the sake of development in the ward.

Thabela, the PAC candidate, beat the candidates of the ANC and Cope in the recent by-election. The by-election came about after serious irregularities were detected in the 2011 local government elections by the ANC during an investigation. The results of the investigation led to many ANC councillors' being recalled countrywide. Thulamela was one of the casualties. The by-election took place on 27 April.

“The by-election was not a per-sonal fight. It was only to determine the will of the people and I am happy that the people exercised their right. The results are not for enhancing one’s pride, but are about what one

can offer to the people. I am ready for the challenge and I am mak-ing an appeal to other parties that they should come on board. Forget about political squabbles and render service to the community,” said Thabela.

He said he was not representing the PAC but was an umbrella for all in the ward, irrespective of their political affiliation. "Look, I am not wearing the PAC shirt. I am now a leader of the whole ward and I have to work with all the people in the ward. It is only a matter of time that we will together bring change in the ward,” he added.

“We will work hand in hand with the traditional leaders in the ward. Everything which affects the community will be done at the traditional leader’s palace. We will always be in touch with our people,” said Thabela.

Malamulele residents adopt nodal point budgetStakeholders recently adopted the Thulamela Nodal Point budget during a meeting at the Malamulele Club house.

They urged the municipality, how-ever, to organise a meeting with the Vhembe district municipality to look at the problems of Malamulele Ex-

tension B. Before the adoption of the budget, there was a feeling that the budget should not be adopted until the Malamulele extension had been included in the budget.

The area, which was started with-out consulting Thulamela, has no sewerage system, no water and no

electricity, while residents pay for full service. Cllr Obrien Malindi faced a barrage of questions regarding the matter, particularly from residents who claimed they had bought the stands from the local chief, but the municipality still required them to pay more. Later it was agreed that Malam-ulele Section B was a special case and it required more than stakeholders at a nodal point meeting to solve the problem. It was later agreed that a meeting between Vhembe District Municipality, Thulamela and the residents of the section should be arranged in order to seek a solution.

Malamulele Sanco secretary Mr Brian Man-golele said Sanco was happy with the arrange-ment. “We agreed that we should adopt the bud-get, but the matter of the Malamulele Extension B will be revisited by the bigger forum, including Vhembe District Municipality, who is the water authority in the area,” he said.

Some of the projects which have been approved for Malamulele include 500 RDP houses and electricity for Shitlhelani village. In the pipeline are also the tarring of streets at Malamulele sec-tion B, and 200 RDP houses and electricity for Menial village.

“The success of any democratic government depends on the support and the participation of its citizens,” said the Vhembe District’s execu-tive mayor, Cllr Tshitereke Matibe, during the opening of the workshop for ward committees, traditional leaders and community development workers that was recently held at Northgate

Lodge, outside Makhado (Louis Trichardt).Matibe said that ward committees were initi-

ated to make sure that the relationship between the community and all spheres of government re-mained intact. “Without efficient ward committees, municipalities will never realise the objectives of local government. The objectives of local govern-ment are to provide democratic and accountable government for local communities. It must also ensure provision of services to communities in a sustainable manner and promote social and eco-nomic development. It is also their aim to promote a safe and healthy environment and to encourage the involvement of communities and community organizations in matters of local government,” said Matibe.

He warned that a ward committee is not a decision-making structure,as its role is to advise ward councillors and the council on issues which affect communities.

Mutale principal retires after 38 yearsThe retired school principal of Lunwanngwe Secondary School in Mianzwi village outside Mutale urged learners to take education seri-ously.

Mr Mmbulungeni Sitsula turned 65 last Friday

and the teachers and pupils organized a big party to bid him farewell after a career of 38 years.

Sitsula said he started teaching in 1975 at the Lwenzhe Secondary School near Vuwani and was appointed the principal of Lunwanngwe

in 1992. “When we start working during those days, there was discipline and respect from pupils towards the teachers. I want teachers and learners to unite and work as a team for better educa-tion. Teachers must encourage Grade 12 pupils to work hard to achieve good matric results”.

One of Sitsula’s pu-pils and now a teacher at the same school, Ms Ntabeliseni Tshi-kombedze, said Sitsula had taught her and oth-ers to be professional and disciplined teach-ers.

One of the oldest people in Musina, Mr Alpheus Matome Manthata (105), was buried at the weekend.

Manthata was the first person to stay in Nance-field when it was still densely bushy and infested with lions. A staunch member of the ANC and commonly known as Mandela or Tutu of Musina, Manthanta was just a month away from celebrating his 106th birthday on 1 July, when he died peace-fully in his sleep at his home.

He was born on 1 July 1908 and during his life he led several marches in the Musina area in an effort to break the chains of oppression.

Many people will remember him as an old but fit individual who never boarded a taxi to town. “Cars are no good for my health. I prefer walking because it keeps me fit. Look how young I am. This is because I never drank alcohol or smoked for the past 100 years or so,” he would joke.

In his early days, he used to be a teacher at Harper Mine in the Musina area. He was also a business-man in his own right – selling fruits and vegetables from a wheelbarrow. He also worked as a clerk at the then MTD copper mine. Manthata was a great fighter who wanted people to enjoy their rights. This was evident when he was fired from the mine after organising a historic three-month workers’ strike for better pay.

He was a self-taught carpenter who manufac-tured homemade coffins to bury local community members free of charge. This was long before the establishment of funeral undertakers in Musina.

Those residents who are 50 years and older will clearly remember that there were two famous soc-cer teams in Musina – Young Tigers and Sovetso Pirates. Manthata was instrumental in the formation of the two teams. At one time, he became the sole owner of both teams while supporting them from his own pocket. He was so committed to rooting out lawlessness in the country that he could not let a violation of the law go unpunished. In the early seventies, he worked as a correctional service officer who escorted law offenders by train. Interestingly, he would first go home with the offenders and enjoy lunch while they sat unattended. They never ran away because they knew that he was a tough disciplinarian.

He demonstrated his natu-ral leadership skills by oc-cupying different demanding positions in society. These include being an active mem-ber of the erstwhile municipal advisory board and playing his role as member of Bonwa Metsi School Committee – now known as a school gov-erning body. He also worked

at Musina High School when it was established in 1978 – this time as a general assistant.

Family representative Ngoako Manthata said there were countless memories of him which would go down in the history books of Musina. “He loved God and he was the founder of Nance-field Uniting Reformed Church. We thank God for giving us such a wonderful gift in him. He was a self-proclaimed social worker who went from house to house, solving problems. He was full of smiles and he was loved by everyone. We will surely miss him.”

Mayor Carol Phiri said despite the fact that the community of Musina had lost a loved one, she thanked God for blessing Manthata with a long life. “It is rare to find people who are more than a 100 years old these days. At 105, he lived life to the fullest. The family should know that we are with them during this difficult time. Your loss is ours, too. He was one of us. We must unite to ensure that his efforts to make Musina a better place were not in vain.”

Local SPCA in dire straits

“Education is a priority”

Musina traffic boss threatens with strong action

The Louis Trichardt Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is at present in dire straits.

Over the last couple of months, it has become more and more difficult to fulfil their duties as a non-profit organisation.

The main reason for this is a serious shortage of funds. They do not receive any help from government and rely solely on donations. These donations have, however, all but dried up in recent times.

“If we do not receive help urgently in the form of frequent cash dona-tions, we would have no other option than to close the local branch of the SPCA. If this happens, residents’ closest SPCA branch would be in Polokwane,” says Mrs Bea Reimer, chairperson of the management committee.

Reimer explained that, on average, it costs the branch between R40 000 and R45 000 per month to keep their gates open. This includes veterinary fees, fuel, municipal levies, office ex-penses and, most importantly, animal food. “Our situation is dire and we are still waiting for the R1 million inheri-

tance left to us by our dear friend and animal lover, Miss Betty Noakes, who passed away nearly two years ago. But even when we receive this money, we will only be able to use the interest on the amount,” says Reimer.

The local SPCA covers a vast area, stretching from Matoks in the south to the Zimbabwean border in the north and from Masisi in the east to Vivo/Alldays in the west.

“You would therefore understand that to send out our vehicle to Masisi or Alldays for a day costs a lot of money,” says Reimer.

Reimer urged people to consider contributing a small amount each month, maybe by debit order, to help keep the local SPCA’s gates open. Once-off donations are also very welcome. The leader of the United African Apostolic Church (UAAC), Arch-bishop Elias Mureri, encouraged young people to put education on top of their priority list.

He was addressing more than 1 500 youths during the official launch of the UAAC branch at the University of Venda last Sunday.

“Education is the key and is the only means to achieve personal growth and development. Without education, the future of any young person cannot be guaranteed,” he said.

He also thanked the Univen council for affording UAAC students an op-portunity to attend church services within the university premises. He indicated that such a move was un-precedented in the church‘s 100 years

of existence. He pledged to pray for the university, its leadership and stu-dents, so that they work in harmony at all times.

The launch will see a large num-ber of students donning their blue and white uniforms every Sunday to conduct their regular three-hour church services.

The branch will function under the stewardship of Messrs Phumudzo Mathidzha and Thina Phalanndwa. According to Mathidzha, any Chris-tian is welcome to participate in the services.

The function was also attended by Vhembe Executive Mayor Clr Tshit-ereke Matibe, the Univen director of student affairs, Mr Charlie Lutando, and the SRC President, Mr Andisani Mathelemusa.

One of the illegal motor mechanics cleans up the grease from a designated parking area under the supervision of Musina’s chief traffic officer, Mr Daniel Nembambula, and his colleague, Mr Newton Janji.

Offenders who do not adhere to the municipal bylaws will be subjected to the strongest legal disciplinary action, warns Musina’s chief traffic officer, Mr Daniel Nembambula.

He said this during Operation Clean Up, which was aimed at get-ting rid of people who are conducting illegal business in undesignated area. “We are aware of motor mechanics

who are fixing cars in designated parking areas and this has a serious implication on traffic flow. Despite the warning signs, hawkers are con-tinuing to conduct their businesses in prohibited areas. As a responsible municipality governed by the legis-lation of the country, we will make sure that those who break the law are punished. We know the poverty levels

of our people and high unemployment rate, but the law is there to regulate the smooth running of our town,” he said.

It was chaos in one of the streets as more than 10 illegal motor mechanics were fixing cars in the parking area. As if that is not enough, the me-chanics always leave the place dirty and greasy. Shoppers and tourists laid complaints with the municipality. In the spirit of brotherhood, the motor mechanics were warned tostop their illegal activities immediately . They were also forced to clean the area under the watchful eyes of the traffic officers or to face arrest.

Nembambula said that despite the shortage of law enforcement officers, the municipality was doing its best to make sure that law and order pre-vailed in the town. “Due to cross-border trading, our town is growing very fast and we need to pull up our socks to make sure that we do not scare away shoppers, investors and tourists. The government has also declared us as one of the growth points of Limpopo, and due to the massive economic devel-opments and mining, we will become a city in the next few years. So, it is very important to enforce law and order before it is too late.”

He said people who would like to conduct busi-nesses in town, whether small or commercial, should contact the planning unit of the municipal-ity. “There are guidelines to be followed and if people have the necessary approval, nobody will bother them. I appeal to everyone to work hand in hand with us to make Musina a better place to stay.”

Municipal Manager Johnson Matshivha addresses the people of Musina during the IDP and budget consultation process.

The past week was a busy one as councillors and the management of Musina Municipality visited all the wards to get people’s input on the draft of the integrated development plan (IDP) and budget for the 2013/4 financial year, which starts on 1 July.

This forms part of the consultative process to make sure that community members are playing their role in the decision-making processes of the municipality. The well-attended meetings were aimed at ward committees, all community stake-holders and the general public of Musina.

Municipal Manager Johnson Matshivha says that, according to the Municipal Systems Act, every municipality has to prepare its own credible IDP and budget, which guides them every financial year for a period of five years. He says the key IDP and budget reflections include the municipality’s vision and special emphasis on the most critical develop-ment and internal transformation needs. An assess-ment of the existing level of development, which includes an identification of communities which do not have access to basic municipal services must also be included in the plan .

“This will also help us to look at the development of objectives and priorities for our people, including our local economic development aims. There is also a need to scrutinize the development of strategies that are aligned with national or provincial sectoral plans and planning requirements binding on the municipality.”

He says all the inputs made by thousands of residents will be consolidated to one working document which will be owned by all the people of Musina.

He has thanked all the people who had put every-thing aside to take part in these important meetings. He encourages community members to participate in all municipal meetings to make sure that they are part of the planning and implementation processes.

Early Christmas for Hamutsha PrimaryThirteen pupils from Hamutsha Primary School recently received brand new uniforms from a local resident, Mr Takalani Ravele, last week.

Ravele presented the uniforms to the value of R7 000 to the school principal, Mr Tshitereke Khorommbi.

Ravele stated that one Monday morning when he was driving to work, “it was heavily raining and suddenly I noticed a barefooted young girl hold-ing a bundle of books in a plastic bag crossing the road.” He then decided to talk to the young girl.

It was during that street interview when Rav-ele discovered that the girl was from one of the poorest families in the area. She was a pupil of Hamutsha Primary School, and Ravele proceeded to the school where he had discussions with the staff members.

The staff members revealed to Ravele that what

he saw was just a drop in the ocean, saying a num-ber of pupils were experiencing the same problem. Ravele requested the staff members to compile a list of all the needy learners from the school for him.

A fortnight ago he arrived at the school with the new uniforms. Ravele attended his primary educa-tion at the school from 1986 to 1991.

The project to build a new community hall at Waterval was launched earlier this month by the mayor of Makhado, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi (with pick in hand). The hall, which will cost roughly R8 million to build, is expected to be completed by December. Mutavhatsindi said the building of the new hall was part of the municipality’s infrastructure maintenance plan.

R2 billion investment in Zim

International poets visit SA and Zimbabwe

The South African government, through the Development Bank of Southern Africa, intends to invest more than R 2 billion for infra-structural and industrial develop-ment in Zimbabwe.

South Africa’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Vusi Mavimbela, told Limpopo Mirror that the SA government will continue to extend economic support to Zimbabwe. “We will continue to support our neighbour and we hope to strengthen our rela-tions with Zimbabwe.

Our foreign policy stipulates that, besides creating economic ties, we should ensure skills transfer and cre-ate partnerships in all areas of opera-tion,” he said.

Mavimbela said South African companies should not only view Zim-babwe as a market but as an economic investment destination.

According to statistics from the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agen-cy, almost 60% of Zimbabwe’s trade volumes emanate from trading ties with South Africa. About 55% of Zimbabwe’s direct foreign invest-ment is injected into the country by SA investors.

Meanwhile, a South African com-pany, Ferme Afrique Holdings, has signed a US$100 million joint diamond-mining project with Women in Mining and the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation. Women in Mining is affiliated to the Zim-babwe Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining. Femme Afrique Holdings is a women’s empowerment organisa-tion and its core business is investing in resources, skills and expertise in infrastructure development projects as well as economically empowering women.

A contingent of poets from around the world descended on the Vhembe district last Saturday, where they shared the spoken word.

Poets who attended the What’s Poetry Festival II came from Russia, Zimbabwe, Indonesia, China, Switzerland, Germany, Japan and South Africa. During the tour, the poets’ first stopover in Vhembe was at Mbhokota village, where they visited the house of the late, highly talented sculptor Jackson Hlungwani and the John Baloyi Art Gallery.

Festival director Indra Wussow said that the festival focused on the idea of language for the individual, nation building and international un-derstanding. “Without a widespread network of generous partners and supporters, projects like ours wouldn’t exist,” Wussow said.

A poet, scriptwriter and actress based in South Africa and Botswana, Mbali Bloom Kgosidintsi, spent some time talking with the little ones at the Timbila Writers Village in Shirley, Elim. “I am touched by the humility of the people around here for inviting us into a rich landscape,” Mbali spoke. “Their commitment to art is amazing; even Mr Hlungwani’s daughter welcomed us warmly.”

According to Timbila Writers Village’s direc-tor, Vonani Bila, the village will house writers, poets and researchers while they are working on their projects. “We hope to open the project soon,” Bila said.

In the evening, the group of poets met pupils and educators at Ridgeway College. During the event, the poets read and recited poetry.

Magogodi had answered the “what is poetry?” question during an interview with Limpopo Mirror, where he stated that poetry is a musical form with a sonic landscape.

Ridgeway College’s secretary, Ms Lynn Biggs, said the school had enjoyed the experience of listening to poetry in different languages and they never felt any language barriers. “The honour of having a group of international poets coming to Ridgeway College and sharing with us their pas-sion for poetry is all that will stay in our hearts for a very long time,” Biggs said. “We hope that this experience has made a lasting impression on our students and encourages them to take up poetry.”

The Zimbabwean poet Chirikure Chirikure re-cited a poem in Shona, with a sombre tone. “The poem says that ‘we’ve been watching you reason-ing for too long,’” he explained.

The entourage proceeded to Zimbabwe on Monday.

Many different courses are available for Christian pastors – courses at seminaries, both full-time and part-time, as well as distance instruction by way of correspondence, and personal instruction.

The prospect of a course with personal instruc-tion will shortly be available here in Makhado (Louis Trichardt). It is provided by the Mukh-anyo Theological College in KwaNdebele, which is credited at the North West University and provides training for certificates, diplomas and degrees in biblical and theological subjects.

Mukhanyo already has 27 satellite centres in all the provinces of South Africa, apart from centres in Swaziland, Botswana, Zambia and Kenya, with many hundreds of students from different denominations who have registered for the vari-ous courses. What distinguishes this course from some others is that it combines thorough, biblical, theological training with emphasis on personal faith and a living relationship with the living God, and the practical aspects of pastoral work.

The courses are very popular with pastors and church leaders. The diploma course of two years’ full-time study is already being offered at the local high-security prison by Dr MP Kruger, and some inmates have already passed a number of subjects.

Local theological training for pastorsNow the diploma course will be available, God willing, for any person who is interested, especially for pastors. The only requirement for registration is a good reading knowledge of English and a senior certificate. Matriculation exemption is not required.

Persons who do not have a senior certificate may still register, but instead of the diploma, they will receive an unaccredited certificate at completion.

On 13 July, the first classes are due to start. The first lectures will be offered by Miss Jane Korevaar, one of the staff members of Mukh-anyo. Afterwards, lectures will be offered by a team cooperating with Prof Koos van Rooy, one of the translators of the Venda Bible.

The first module to be offered will be on the topic of Spiritual Formation, with a study guide compiled by Dr Jack Whytock of California, USA. Each module requires approximately 30 hours of study.

Other modules in Diploma 1 will include Af-rican Spirituality, Old Testament Introduction (2 modules), New Testament Introduction (2 mod-ules), Christian Doctrine (2 modules) What is the Church?, and five of the following: Pastoral Guidance, Preaching, Evangelism (2 modules), Christian Leader Training, Christian Missions, Farming God’s Way, and Teaching Children.

If fewer than five students register per centre, the cost per module is R500. However, 10 have already expressed their desire to register, which means that the cost per module will be only R200, which includes all the necessary books and study materials. The classes will take place on Saturday mornings.

Amazing victory for the Chippas LadiesIn their Sasol Women’s League match at the Makwarela Sta-dium on Saturday afternoon, the Chippas Ladies were too strongby far for the University of Limpopo, whom they bru-tally walloped 6-1.

As if they were hypnotized, the v is i tors f rom Polokwane looked hopeless from the onset. It was not sur-prising when they conceded a goal three minutes into the game. Tshililo Nematandani was on target, follow-ing a pre-cooked pass from Puo Mudimeli.

The students con-tinued to play defen-sive football, despite the fact that they were trailing.

It was Chippas’ slender striker, Tshil-ilo Nematandani, who did it again. She beat the offside trap and unleashed a powerful volley from inside the box. The students’ keeper, Olga Mthim-kulu, watched help-lessly as the ball hit the back of the net.

Chippas enjoyed possession of the ball in all departments. Mokgadi Senyolo scored the third for Chippas in the 26th minute. Nthabiseng Matswi of Chippas was reprimanded with a card for dangerous play on Confidence Rakoma. Matswenye-

ho Mamaila scored the fourth in the 29th minute The only goal for the University of Limpopo came in the 39th minute. Nk-wagase Nnanye forced her way through the defence of Chip-pas and beat the keeper with a ground cutter.

Kremetart race only five weeks away

The new coach of Dynamos, Mr Shepherd Murape, is still battling to find a winning com-bination. His side played to another draw, this time with Thanda Royal Zulu at the Gi-yani Stadium on Sunday. The final score was 2-2.

The result leaves the pride of Giyani deeply rooted at the bot-tom of the log with 12 points, five behind the other relegation candidates, FC AK.

Dynamos have managed to win only one of the 24 matches

they have played to date. Walter Ramulondi, who joined Dynamos three weeks ago, watched their game against Thanda from the grandstand. He sustained a knee injury in their match against Witbank Spurs two weeks ago.

FC AK were brutally walloped 5-0 by Witbank Spurs, but Polok-wane City collected maximum points at the expense of Santos at the University of Limpopo Stadium on Sunday. The victory has pushed Polokwane City to the eighth position on the log.

Vasco da Gama were unstop-pable when they doomed Sivutsa Stars 4-0 at the Parow Park Sta-dium in Cape Town. Blackburn Rovers lost 1-2 to United, despite the fact that they were playing in front of their home crowd.

Mpumalanga Black Aces con-tinued to pave their way to the promotional playoffs by beating Jomo Cosmos 3-1 at the Makhu-long Stadium in Johannesburg. Milano United drew 1-1 with FC Cape Town at the Grassy Park Stadium.

The pace setters of the Safa SAB league Stream E, Makhitha Oscar Stars, played their hearts out to beat the struggling Tshiozwi Dynamos 3-1 at Tshiozwi on Saturday.

Stars enjoyed more ball possession in the game and the result is a true reflection of the game. Dy-namos spent the whole match running for cover.

The absence of Aluwani “Killer” Nedzamba, Tsie Nndwambi and Thabelo Mufhadi in the Dynamos team was felt from the onset. Rambuda Maphaha and Pepero Rasimphi, who were man-ning Nndwambi and Nedzamba’s positions, could not make the grade as the opponents used them as their freeway.

The only player who was cautioned with a card in the first half was Nyathi Muvhango of Dynamos. His of-fence was that of tack-ling an opponent, Lolo Tsieisi, roughly.

The local lads took the lead in the 26th minute, when their bulldozer striker, Ma-todzi Maruli, scored with a marvellous shot from a free kick. Stars missed two clear chances before the break. Ormish Mud-zunga and Lolo Tseisi

saw their shots sail harmlessly over the bar when the game was 42 and 44 minutes old respectively.

Stars came back strong in the second half and scored the equaliser through Godwin Mahuma, who received a neat pass from Skhakha Makgopo in the 58th minute. A few minutes later, the ref-eree booked Matodzi Maruli for a rough tackle on Ormish Mudzunga. Stars put the matter be-yond doubt in the 65th minute, when Maclody Musitha beat the opponents’ defence and blasted in a rocket. Dynamos effected a change to their original team later in the game. Lolo Tseisi scored his team’s third goal in the 81st minute.

With just five more weeks to go before this year’s Kremetart Cycling Race, things are really buzzing to finalize all the preparations for this popular one-ay, stage cycling road race.

This year, the race will take place from 7 to 9 June and indications are already that there is going to be a record number of entries for the race.

Ms Renda Alexander, one of the race organisers, says that the online entries for the race are already 67% more than at this time last year.

This year, the race will also not be limited to 1 200 entries as in previous years. The organisers will prepare for 1 500 cyclists and their supporters. The Kremetart Mountain Bike race will also be hosted as a Cross Country Olympic event, and will also be a Limpopo qualifying event.

Online registration is already open and cyclists who wish to enter are encouraged to do so soon before all the slots are snatched up. Cyclists can log on to www.kremetartcycling.co.za to register.

Various local charity organisations like Ladies Circle 4, Save the Rhino, Choc and the Round Table have come aboard and will support the race. Other businesses and organisations are also encouraged to book a booth if they want to sell their products or advertise their services during the race weekend. With this record-breaking Kremetart, accommodation for visitors is already fully booked and becoming a serious headache for the organizers. They have therefore appealed to anyone who may have accommodation available, such as a room to rent, to phone Pétria Marais at 015 516 5771. She will be responsible for coordinating all the accommodation available at private homes.

Thulamela Municipality hereby invites experienced service providers for the lease of computers and printers.

Bid documents will be available as from the 07 May 2013 08h00 and 15h30 upon non-refundable cash payment of R324-00 per document at office no. 02, Thulamela Municipality, Old Agriven Building, Thohoyandou.

Interested service providers will be expected to submit the prices with the following compulsory requirements.

An Original Valid Tax Clearance Certificate issued by SARS•Proof of updated payments of all the services in the municipality in which the business is registered or •where the owner of business resides not older than 3 months and not in arrears for more than 90 days.Company registration documents•List of previously executed projects similar to this with client contact numbers.•

Where possible we also request to be provided with the company profile.NB: Service providers must submit their BBBEE Verification certificate from verification agency ac-credited by South African accreditation system (SANAS) or a registered auditor approved by the In-dependent Regulatory Board (IRBA) or an Accounting Officer as contemplated in the corporation act (CCA) in order to claim preference points.The bid documents must be submitted in a sealed envelope clearly indicating the project name and Bid num-ber – Bid number 04/2012/13A- “Lease of computers and desktop printers” on the outside and must be deposited in the Tender Box at the Municipality Offices, not later than 11:00 on the 22 May 2013.

PROJECT OFFICER (One year contract renewable based on performance and availability of funding)

Duties: The administrator will perform all administrative duties that are required by the organization (e.g. convening meetings, booking accommodation when necessary, filing, requisitioning stationery, registering learners on the computer and controlling all the claims made, responding to correspondence and servicing clients. In addition, any responsibilities assigned to him/her by the project manager or a delegated person.

Requirements: A B. Degree, preferably in Economics or Business Management; knowledge of MS Word and Excel; the ability to lead a team and to work under immense pressure; a good understanding of Project budgeting and finance.

This position is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training (National Skills Fund).

AUXILIARY SERVICES AND EXAMINATION CLERK (2X POSTS) (P11) (REF: B468 & B470)

Duties: The incumbent will ensure that nominations of external examiners are done and on time; and research projects, dissertation and thesis are dispatched for external moderation. Liaise with school administrators and academic staff on matters related to examinations. The incumbent will also be responsible for arranging venues and linking of invigilators on the ITS system and attending to examination queries for specific schools allocated to him/her.

Requirements: Appointment requires Matric certificate, coupled with at least three years experience in administration. Applicant must be computer literate, have good human relations skills and be willing to work outside normal working hours. Relevant diploma and experience of working at a tertiary institution will be an added advantage.

CENTRE FOR HIGHER EDUCATION TEACHING AND LEARNING (CHETL)

DISABILITY UNIT

SENIOR CLERK (P10) (REF: B386)

Duties: As part of a team within the Disability Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for preparing learning materials in different formats for students with disabilities. S/he will see to it that all the labs in the Disability Unit are well managed. The scope of his/her responsibility will also include liaising with academics and library staff in order to get learning materials on time.

Requirements: The Centre seeks an articulate communicator with excellent interpersonal and writing skills. The candidate must have a three year Diploma coupled with three years' experience, one of which must be in working with Disabilities (preferably at Institutions of Higher Learning). A Bachelor's degree will be an added advantage for this position. Knowledge of Adapted Technology/Computer Literacy. The ability to transcribe written material into Braille is one of the preferences for this position.

Hard-earned victory for Bayern Munich

Phaphazela Bayern Munich booked a place in the next stage of the PIB MTG and Black Leopards KO Competition by beating Barcelona FC 6-5 at the Tshifulanani Stadium on Sunday.

Takuwani Ramabulana of Barcelona was the first player to be reprimanded with a card. He was booked for a late tackle on Musa Mabasa. Godfrey Mahunguri of Bayern Munich was tackled from behind within the box and the referee, Mr Patrick Mashamba, awarded them a penalty. The players of Barcelona were not happy with the referee’s decision to award Bayern a penalty.

Ephraim Bilankulu scored from the white spot. Barcelona retaliated in the 19th minute. They were awarded a free kick just outside the box. France Mololo scored from the free kick. Barcelona, however, took the lead two minutes later. France Moloto was on target again after unleashing from the edge of the box.

Godfrey Mahunguri then scored, following a neat pass from Conwell Rikhotso, making the score 2-2 at the break.

Barcelona were reduced to 10 men early in the last half. Ishmael Mathebula was given his march-ing orders for protesting against the referee’s deci-sion. Rendani scored the third goal for Barcelona with a header in the 64th minute, following a square pass from Thembi Moyane. Bayern Munich found the equaliser nine minutes towards the end of the game. Godfrey Mahunguri headed home after a corner kick.

The winner was determined through a penalty shoot-out, as the full time score was 3-3. Bayern Munich converted three while Barcelona scored with only two of their five chances.

Time is running out for Dynamos. Their only chance to survive the relegation axe at the end of the season is to win all their remaining matches.

They will play two NFD league matches in the space of four days. They will play against Sivutsa Stars at the Kabokweni Stadium tomorrow after-noon. On Wednesday (8/5) they will meet Black-burn Rovers at the Giyani Stadium.

In the other NFD matches tomorrow afternoon, FC Cape Town will play against Jomo Cosmos and African Warriors will host Polokwane City. Santos and Witbank Spurs will test each other’s strength at the Athlone Stadium, while Mpumalanga Black Aces and Vasco da Gama will clash at the Themba Senamela Stadium in Witbank on Sunday.

The other match that will be played on Sunday will be between FC AK and Milano United at the Eldorado Park Stadium.

The other fixtures for next Wednesday are: Polokwane City vs Jomo Cosmos, Mpumalanga Black Aces vs FC AK, Thanda Royal Zulu vs Af-rican Warriors, Vasco da Gama vs Roses United, Milano United vs Witbank Spurs, United FC vs FC Cape Town and Sivutsa Stars vs Santos.

A miracle will not be enough to save Black Leop-ards from the relegation axe. This follows after the team that were once the pride of Limpopo, experienced one of their worst weeks ever.

They lost two important Premier League matches, conceded seven goals and scored only one and dropped to the tail of the PSL log with only 23 points from 27 matches. With only three matches left on their league pro-gramme, it is nearly impossible for them to continue playing in the the elite league next season. They have a mountain to climb as they must play Orlando Pirates (away), Mamelodi Sundowns (home) and Free State Stars (away) before their league activities come to an end.

Leopards lost 1-3 to the University of Pretoria at the Peter Mokaba stadium last Saturday and suffered a 0-4 defeat at the hands of Amazulu at the Princess Magogo stadium in Durban on Wednesday evening.

The Zulus made their intentions clear from the onset. They initiated some danger-ous moves from the middle of the park, thus forcing the visitors to play defensive foot-ball. Moses Kwena brought down Bongani Ndulula after two minutes and the Eastern Cape referee, Mr Lwandile Mfiki, awarded a penalty to Amazulu. Ndulula scored from the penalty spot.

Leopards continued to fumble within their own half. Goodman Dlamini scored in the 6th minute, following a defensive error by Victor Kamuka. Lidoda Duvha were reduced to ten men in the 34th minute. Their playmaker, Dunga Munganga, was
