He was later identified as Mr Shumani Makhadi (44). His body was discovered by community members who were walking along the street. According to reports, he had a gaping wound on the head. The man’s death raises more questions than answers as no one could explain what exactly had happened. The younger brother of the deceased, Mr Mboniswa Makhadi, said that the inci- dent had really traumatized the whole family. “We were stunned about the untimely death of my brother.” He said when he heard of the incident he went to the place where the body was found. “I found a large group of people standing around and I went closer and peered down and saw the body of my brother,” he added. He said that the family members were puzzled about the cause of death. “If somebody wanted his money, then they should have taken such from him and left him alone.” The police also came and took him away to do tests that will de- termine the cause of his death. It was reported that there was only a small area with blood on the ground. When Limpopo Mirror arrived at the scene, the police were conducting preliminary investigations while undertakers were ready to take the body to the mortuary. The spokesperson of the Tshilwavhusiku SAPS, Sgt Thilivhali Malowa, appealed to the community to assist the police with any possible in- formation that would lead to solving the crime. “We found the deceased’s body lying on the ground,” she stated. “We have opened an inquest docket and are waiting for the post mortem results. Now we can’t say much.” The director of Munna Ndi Nnyi, Mr Bardwell Mufunwaini, said that they felt ashamed as an organisation when people still acted in this fashion of killing others. Mufunwaini said that it was everyone’s responsibility to foster peace and good relations within the communities. “We are tired of murders, suicides and all other kind of crimes,” he said. The ward councillor, Mr David Davhana, emphasised the point that no person had the right to take another person’s life. He said the government and the church must join hands to fight the demon of murder where someone was killed every time. “Human life is very important,” he continued. “It’s painful to lose your loved ones. I send my sincerest condolences to the be- reaved family.” Mr Makhadi will be buried tomorrow (Saturday) at the Madombidzha Cemetery. The service will start at 06:00. In another murder case, Siloam police arrested 22-year-old Ntan- ganedzeni Makatu of Thonda after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death last Thursday. The Siloam Police spokesper- son, W/O Edward Tharaga, said that it was reported that the man and his girlfriend, Ms Lufuno Mabeda (20), had had an argu- ment over the crèche that should take care of their two children. “He allegedly lost his temper and stabbed Mabeda in the chest. She died instantly,” Tharaga said Tharaga added that the police found a panga lying next to Mabeda´s body. Makatu briefly appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Monday and the case was postponed to 13 April for a bail application. Ms Mabeda will be buried at the Ha- Khakhu cemetery to- morrow (Saturday). The service will be held at Thononda and will start at 06:00. The late Shumani Makhadi, who was killed. Dedicated traffic cop passes away

Bidvest Wits destroy ABC Motsepe leader

Mr Abraham Makganyoga.

A well-known traffic officer at the Makha-do Municipality, Mr Abraham Makganyo-ga (52), passed away in the Polokwane Med-iClinic after a short illness on Sunday.

He was described by his colleagues as a hard-working, dedicated, lov-ing and respectful traffic officer. The mayor, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi, expressed his condo-lences to the family and said that the municipali-ty would sorely miss his contribution to service delivery in the province.

He was appointed as traffic officer in 1997.

Mr Makganyoga’s daughter, Evah, said that she would remember her father as a loving person who was always smiling. “He was a wonderful gift to the family,” she said. He is survived by his wife and two children. He will be buried tomorrow (Satur-day) at the Ramahantsha graveyard. The service will be held at Tshiozwi at 06:00.

The ABC Motsepe League log leaders, Magezi FC, were ham-mered 0-6 by Bidvest Wits in their Nedbank last-16 encoun-ter at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium last Friday night.

The game started like a house on fire. In the second minute, Magezi were denied a clear penalty when Siyabonga Nhlapo handled the ball in the 18-yard area. Magezi had more ball pos-session in the first 20 minutes and Wits were unable to penetrate the last line of defence.

Calamitous defending from Magesi proved costly. In the

22nd minute Magezi defenders failed to clear the ball and they paid the ultimate prize for their poor defending when Daine Klate scored. Two minutes later, more bad defending put the game be-yond Magezi’s reach when Oupa Seete deflected the ball into his own net after another top cross by Nhlapo.

Klate added his second in the 41st minute with another fine finish after Elias Pelembe fed him a well-judged pass. In the 44th minute, Wits were awarded a penalty when Sibusiso Vilkazi was brought down in the penalty

area. Klate completed his hat trick.

In the second half, Wits took the foot of the pedal and nearly paid the price. Just after the hour mark, Mpho Morakaladi couldn’t keep his header down and it went over the top of the goal.

In the 70th minute, Magezi started to play entertaining foot-ball, but it was already too late. Wits continued to dominate the game. In the 80th minute, Vilaka-zi made it 5-0 from close range. Two minutes later, Klate scored his fourth goal of the match to make it 6-0.

Community members of Murunwa village barricaded the Witvlag road on Monday afternoon after the discovery of a woman’s body in the Mutshedzi River.

The body of a 56-year-old mother, Ms Naledzani Sikhwayi, was dis-covered by a person who went to the river to collect stones for religious purposes.

Angry community members imme-diately called for justice and promised that they would continue to barricade the road with logs and rocks until the

person responsible for the woman’s death “is removed permanently from the community.”

A community mem-ber, who did not want to be named, said that the police should stop threatening them and arrest the culprit.

The son of the de-ceased, Mr Gumani Sikhwayi, said that he was still in shock by what he saw on Monday at the river.

“My mother’s lifeless body was thrown in the river. She had no clothes on and a blanket that she used to tie around her waist was tied to her neck,” said Sikhwayi. “I hope the law can bring justice for my mother, because she did not die

of natural causes.”The councillor for Ward 30 in

Makhado Municipality, Mr Fhumu-lani Madzhiga, urged community members to allow the law to take its course and to provide support to the Sikhwayi family. W/O Edward Tharaga of the Siloam police station confi rmed that an inquest docket has been opened and investigations are continuing.

Ms Sikhwayi is survived by fi ve children and she will be buried at Murunwa village on Sunday. Family members photographed at the scene where the body was found.

Promising soccer player laid to rest

A well-known member of the Apostolic Faith Chuch of Fortland Olegon, in Shakadza village outside Mutale, Ms Betty Mulaudzi (89), was recently buried at the Tshitanzhe sacred place (Zwiendeulu). She died on 11 March after a long illness. Mulaudzi is survived by six children, 24 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In our photo are her next of kin and relatives who attended the funeral. Photo: Silas Nduvheni.

A Grade 12 pupil of Matavhela Secondary School outside Mu-tale, who was stabbed to death in Tshindola Park on Friday two weeks ago, was laid to rest on Saturday.

During the emotional funeral of Lutendo Thiba (21), all the speakers strongly condemned the killing of young people. Lu-tendo was the son of well-known policeman Lt-Col John Thiba of Mafukani village, and he was also a promising soccer player. Thiba always wore jersey no 10

of Makwali Try Again, a team based at Tshidongololwe village near Mafukani.

Mr Vuwani Mugwabane, who represented Makwali Try Again, the team Thiba was playing for, said the team had lost a prom-ising soccer star. He joined the team last season and impressed everyone with his soccer skills.

Chief Nndileni Nemafukani, the traditional leader of the area, said that he was very shocked about the incident. “Our area is situated in a deep rural area

and incidents such as these are not usually happening here. We strongly condemn such action and urge young people to stop abusing alcohol,” said Chief Nemafukani.

A Grade11 pupil, Gundo Ndou (19), from the same school, is at present in custody in connection with the death of Lutendo. He was stabbed in the groin with a knife, allegedly during an argu-ment over a girl. Ndou’s case was postponed to 18 April for further investigations.

The staff of the funeral undertaker are assisted by some of the players of Makwali Try Again as they lower the coffin of promising soccer player Lutendo Thiba.

Mr Simon Ramufhi (66) has been missing since before the festive season and, according to the police, it is believed that he was last seen on 12 December last year.

The Tshilwavhusiku Police team has launched a search for him. His family and the police have urged anyone with valid information regarding his possible whereabouts to supply the information to the police as soon as possible. D/Const Machaba can be phoned on 082 486 6116 regarding the case.

Where is Simon?

Clemour performing during the first Battle Round of the competition.

The 24-year-old singer and songwriter from Waterval, Clement “Clemour” Ngobeni, continues to shine more bright-ly on M-Net's TV competition, The Voice South Africa.

Two weeks ago he performed brilliantly to proceed to the next round of the competi-tion. He is a member of Team Kahn, led by The Parlotones’ Kahn Mor-bee. The four judges in the competition each chose 14 candidates during the “blind” audi-tions. These candidates are pitted against each other in a “sing-off” and only one can proceed to the next round.

The judges labelled and described Clemour as “a dynamo”, “crazy”

and “feisty” after he “literally roared” whilst singing Katy Per-ry's song Roar.

A resident of Waterval Section A, Clemour is currently residing in Midrand.

Clemour said that his fans should expect the unexpected for his next performance. “I want the world to know what I am made of,” said Clemour. “Expect some blues and soul, just me”.

Mr Thiemuli Luvhimbi (third from left) presents a printer to the principal of Lufule Primary, Ms Sarah Ravele. The tradtional leader of Lufule village, Chief Kenneth Mphephu (far left), and the chairperson of the SGB, Mr Colbert Mulaleni, are holding another printer and some of the pupils hold the other gifts.

Learning and teaching at the rural Lufule Primary School outside Thohoyandou will change for the better, fol-lowing a donation by a Good Samaritan.

A well-known housing con-structor and car-wash owner in Lufule, Mr Thiemuli Luvhimbi, donated two printers, ball point pens, pencils, rulers and a cash prize of R1 000 to the school last Friday. Luvhimbi is a for-mer pupil of the school and

the money will be awarded to a hardworking Grade 7 pupi1.

Lufule's principal, Ms Sarah Ravele, was over the moon with the donation and said that they had received five computers from the University of Venda last year.

“We believed that education is the societal responsibility of the community, and with busi-nesspeople such as Luvhimbi, learning and teaching at the school will improve.”

Mr Thiemuli Luvhimbi said giving back to the school where he started his education was of importance, as he wanted learn-ers to gain knowledge and skills, so that they could survive in this tough world.

Chief Kenneth Mphephu, a traditional leader in Lufule vil-lage, was thankful to Luvhimbi for his generous donation. He added that education was a priority and one of the basics of development.

AFB Makhado officially took over the recently completed construction project at their Roodewal bombing range. The project, which entailed the building of a transport park, double-storey house and palisade fencing, was completed by the SANDF’s Regional Works Unit Limpopo (RWUL). Pictured, from left to right, during the handing-over ceremony are Col David Mohithli (officer commanding RWUL), Maj Paul Kekana (project planner) and Col Moses Njomo (officer commanding 3 Air Service Unit). CO applauds works unit for job well doneThe officer commanding 3 Air Servicing Unit (3 ASU), Col Moses Njomo, thanked the Regional Works Unit Limpopo (RWUL) of the South African Defence Force for what he described as their genuine support in projecting the good image of AFB Makhado, in particular with regard to the Roodewal bombing range.

Njomo was speaking during the handing-over ceremony of a construction project at the bombing range by the officer commanding the RWUL, Col David Mohitlhi, on 29 March. The project entailed

the building of the transport park, the erecting of palisade fencing, as well as the building of a dou-ble-storey house at the range.

Njomo urged the RWUL to continue supporting the base in all tasks that required facilities and commended the unit on a job well done.

Mohitlhi, accompanied by a team of experts, told the delegates present that no future risks were expected at the facilities. “Register any future projects with regional works in order to receive excellent service,” he said.

At least 40 members were involved in this proj-ect. Among them were artisans who were experts in bricklaying, electrical work, tiling, welding, plumb-ing, painting, building, carpentry and plastering.

The project started in 2013 and was due to be completed in four months. It was, however, only completed this year because of several setbacks. Among these setbacks was a shortage of materials. In total, an amount of only R12 117.50 was used in purchasing some materials for the project, while 99% of materials needed were bought by AFB Makhado. Another aspect that delayed the com-pletion of the project was the normal turnaround time of the procurement process and the issue of the scaffolding and other materials. Despite all this, the project was finally completed. During the ceremony, project planner Maj Paul Kekana said he was satisfied with the work done by the team.

A new recruit, Sylvester Makhubele, recently joined Phalaphala FM, but he is a popular radio personality with several successful years at Univ-en Radio behind him.

He was born and bred in the Mashamba area and started his schooling at the Mashamba Presidential School in 2000. He matriculated in 2012 at the Tshiit-wa Secondary School.

Makhubele’s career in radio started when he joined the then Radio Univen as a part-time presenter in 2013. He has been shunting between roles for the past three years and he as-cribes his success to hard work, perseverance and effective time management. He joined Phalapha-la FM last Friday (1 April).

Affectionately called Lagugga by his supporters, he presents Dikita (Weekend Fever) on Phalaphala FM on Fri-days and Saturdays from 21:00 to 00:00. “I fell in

love with radio at a very young age and I believe I have made the right career choice. I used to mime radio programmes on my own at home and could not resist the opportunity to join Phalaphala FM, because I have wanted to expose my talent to the public for a long time.”

Makhubele says he is not yet satisfi ed by his recent success as he plans to achieve more in life. He added that he was still young and there was still more to offer to the community. He is at present a BA-student in media studies at Univen, “because I need more skills to improve myself in my work environment.”

He urged the youth to be seri-ous with their education, so that they can make a signifi cant contri-bution to the community in which they live. “Youths must stay away

from drugs and criminal activi-ties and prepare themselves

for careers that will benefi t them in life.”

He also mentioned that he was hungry

for success and worked hard to succeed.

Four accused in mob justicecase appear in Dzanani court

King Toni presents school shoes to disadvantaged

Four people who were arrested in connection with a mob killing and assault at Makongoza Village were released on bail of R1 500 each. They recently appeared in the Dz-anani Magistrate’s Court.

The incident happened on 7 March during the night at the village. Chaos erupted when a group of residents apprehended three people whom they believed were responsible for several incidents of theft in the village. Two of the suspects were severely beaten by the angry crowd.

The injured suspects were found by W/O Muvhali, who was on duty that night, patrolling the area and attending to complaints.

According to him, he received information that three people had been beaten by a crowd of people at Makongoza village. “I then proceeded to the scene of the incident and found two people with blood all over their bodies,” he said.

The warrant officer then summoned an ambulance to take the two victims to Siloam hospital. When he arrived at the hospital, the doctors certified that one of the men, Rofhiwa Thavhiwa

(28) of Makongoza, was dead. The other victim had sustained injuries all over his body.

A member of the community, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Limpopo Mirror that the men who were beaten up had been terrorising the community. “They committed gruesome crimes in this area. You had to sleep with one eye open. They got what they deserved; now we will sleep in peace,” she said. She also believes that the incident will send out a clear message to other criminals that their actions are not going to be tolerated.

“I never saw a person beaten like that in my entire life. I know they were committing crimes in this area, but as a community we should not take matters into our hands. We should let the police to do their job,” said another resident, who also did not want his name to be mentioned.

The spokesperson for the Mphephu police, Lazarus Netshidzati, stressed that people should not take the law into their own hands. “We are always encouraging the communities to re-port cases,” he said.

Vhavenda King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana hands over school shoes to some of the pupils.

Joy was beaming from the faces of dis-advantaged pupils from four primary schools in the Nzhelele area as they each ascended the stage to receive new school shoes from King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana. He donated more than 150 pairs to pupils at the Mphephu Royal Kraal last Friday.

The king said that children needed to be nurtured to become future responsi-ble leaders. The presenting of uniforms

marked the long journey of community development through fruitful partnerships, he added.

He mentioned that he was aware of the challenges that the education system was facing “and we cannot just sit down and watch. We spend more on the education of our kids, because we know that they are the future of our country.”

The principal of Dzanani/Nzhelele Primary School, Mr Khangala Denga,

expressed his gratitude to the king. “As schools, we really cannot do without your earnest assistance in many regards, mainly in cases where it concerns our pupils,” he said.

He urged businesspeople from the area to follow in the king’s footsteps and pleaded with the pupils to look after their uniforms and also to study hard. To most rural learners, a full uniform is a luxury they cannot afford, Denga said.

“Music expresses what cannot be put into words. People haven’t always been there for me, but music always has. In one way or another, music is my religion,” said Ras Canly.

Funanani ‘Ras Can-ly’ Phalanndwa re-cently released his second album, Mbilu

yanga (My heart). The album is doing very well and has already sold more than 700 copies. “I am not mar-

keting the album, but it is doing well. It shows that people are loving my music,” said Phalan-ndwa. He expressed appreciation

for the love and support from his fans.

Phalanndwa hails from Tsh-iombo village and he started to sing in 1999. He is a rap singer, inspired by Kenny Murabi’s album War. The new album has 14 tracks. Tracks such as Ndibva Venda, Ngoho ido bvela khagala and freedom, are already popular. His debut album, Pick yourself up, was also a huge success and dom-inated the market for some time.

Although he does not have a tertiary qualifi cation in music, he has some knowledge of producing music. “I am planning to obtain a qualifi cation in music. The music industry is cruel, and you need a fi rm academic background,” said Phalanndwa.

“Watch out, here comes the musi-cal tsunami.” This is a warning to reigning manyalo music queens. This warning comes from man-yalo music’s nine-year-old new kid on the block, Mukhethwa Mukhwathi of Mianzwi village, near Matangari.

If the saying that dynamite comes in small packages is any-thing to go by, this Grade 4 pupil at Mianzwi Primary School will undoubtedly continue to rock the local music industry. Like fish following a crocodile in the water, her adoring fans will remember her for her acrobatic dancing styles and small but sweet voice that soothes her well-arranged melodies wher-ever she performs.

Famously known by her stage name, Baby M, Mukhethwa is the centre of attraction in local shop-ping malls and public places where she always performs to promote her music.

Asked how she came to venture into the music industry at such a young age, Baby M said that her father, Mr Takalani Mukhwathi, owned a recording studio at home “and I used to hang around the studio while he was busy with his

work. I then started singing along with people who came for record-ings and my father kept on asking me to be at his side in the studio.”

Takalani says his daughter is a talented artist who fell in love with music when she was only fi ve years old. “She has a very sweet voice and one day in 2012, I decided to record her trial debut album, titled Mmawe, with only four songs. To my surprise, everyone was so impressed with her talent and the album was in demand. She then recorded her second album, called Hei ndi mpho, which was followed by another one, called Vhufhelo. Both albums are still in high demand and they are selling very well.”

Takalani says he makes sure that Baby M’s music commitments do not interfere with her school work and that she is a bright girl who takes her school work very seriously. She only concentrates on her musical career over weekends and school holidays. “I want her to become educated fi rst, so that she can decide if she wants to take music as a full-time job.”

Baby M can be contacted through her father at 072 687 3860.

His 16th album is a cause for a huge celebration for Percy Mfana’s fans across the country. Those who understand his music better believe that this artist has gone from strength to strength.

A resident of Xikundu village in the Malamulele area, the 48-year-old musician believes that Tsonga traditional music reached maturity many decades ago with the release of quality songs and albums by those who came before. “We have inherited the musical baton from our elders who came before us and shaped Tsonga traditional music,” he said.

Percy Mfana started his musical journey as a Shangaan disco singer and he was only advised to switch to Tsonga Traditional music by the late musical maestro Matswa Be-muda. “The person who made me to switch to Tsonga traditional music was Bemuda as he said there was a vacuum for an artist in the tradi-tional genre with a unique voice like

mine,” he said. “I responded to his advice and the rest is now history.”

Mpfana said that his role mod-el had always been Dr Thomas Chauke. “I grew up following his music and the day Patson spotted me in a sheebeen singing, I was singing Chauke’s songs and he in-vited me to follow him to the studio the following day.”

His latest album is titled Va na tshiri (rhwayi xirivani). Mfana explained that the title of the al-bum tackles the issue of men who leave children in different parts of the country because of migration. “The song goes further to show that is why you fi nd Shangaans all over the provinces. Men left their offspring as they were migrating to look for work, but those children are not counted as Tsongas. They can’t speak the language and they don’t even know that they are Tsongas,” he said.

He commented that the modern music was full of technological

development. “Technol-ogy keeps on changing and we need to move with the times,” he said. “It is also full of entertainment, which is good. Some artists mix it with education for the young generation, which is good. The old music has always been rich in language and build-ing families and giving lessons to all. I think we partly lack such things.”

He emphasised that the com-mand of the Xitsonga language should be a key aspect in lyrics. “But that should not take away the fact that, as an artist, you must be creative as we are in the creative arts,” he said. He promised all his fans that he would remain respectful to-wards them and to other artists because, apart from being a re-spectful person, he was brought up in a manner that discouraged disrespect.

Celebration

A well-known and highly re-spected elder in the Vhembe area, Granny Tshinakaho Me-riam Nelwamomdo of Mukula village, says she ascribes her long life to the Bible and espe-cially to the book of Exodus, chapter 20 verse 12, which reads: “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”

She was addressing hundreds of well-wishers who attended her 81st birthday celebration at Mukula shopping complex lapa last week.

Tshinakaho is the mother of a retired general of the South African National Defence Force and Limpopo businessman,

Abel Nelwamondo. “Despite the fact that my parents died while I was still young, I was highly respectful towards them and this is one of the things that prolonged my life. Being a staunch Christian also helped me to live a pure life, and I believe that God will continue to protect me against the evil of this world,” said granny Tshi-nakaho, a die-hard member of the Mukula-based Christ Vision Christian Church.

Married to the late business-man Samson Matodzi Nelwa-mondo, Tshinakaho used to spend most of her time running family businesses, which in-cluded a restaurant, butch-ery and filling station at Ha-

Makuya. After retiring from ac-tive business life, Tshimakaho turned to subsistence farming, which she still practices today. Despite her advanced age, she still walks unaided, tills the land and does other household chores to keep herself fit. Gen Abel Nelwamondo said he was very proud of his loving mother. He added that the Nelwamondo family was very big, "because my father had six wives in total. My mother never discriminated against any child and she treated everyone equally, like she treat-ed her six biological children." He praised her for being loving, deeply religious and loving to help everyone.

‘Use the Bible as our guideline in life’

Some of the ward committee members in Thulamela local municipality pose for a photograpgh during the conference.

In an effort to strengthen ward committee members to be ef-fective, efficient and to provide quality service delivery to com-munities, the Thulamela Local Municipality (TLM) recently organised a conference for ward committees.

More than 300 ward com-mittee members from around the TLM attended the event in the Thohoyandou Indoor Sports Centre a fortnight ago.

The conference was attended by community development workers, traditional leaders,

officials, councillors and ward committees.

During the event, the act-ing mayor of Thulamela, Cllr Mushoni Tshifhango, pleaded that the quality of the work of ward committees and public participation should improve “as communities are failing to re-ceive the correct messages within an adequate time frame, in order for them to make well-informed decisions.”

The Speaker of the municipal-ity, Cllr Mafemani Baloyi, said that committees played a critical

role in achieving the objectives of a municipality, including giving practical meaning to and strengthening community partici-pation in local government.

Members of the ward com-mittees raised issues on how the institution can fulfil the needs of residents in terms of provid-ing good service delivery. Cllr Baloyi also awarded committee members with certificates of appreciation for the time they devoted to listen and what they should deliver to the commu-nities.

Astronomy evening

Funding dilemma for sex-workers and peer educators

Weather permitting, the Soutpansberg Astron-omy Club in Louis Trichardt will be doing some stargazing this coming Saturday, 9 April.

Jupiter with its four Galilean moons, all on one side of the planet, its bands, as well as the famous GRS (Great Red Spot), can be seen. The GRS will be at the planet’s central meridian shortly after 22:00, but will be visible for a couple of hours prior to that. There are also deep-sky and stellar delights aplenty and it is a great time of the year for stargazing: doubles, galaxies and nebulae to look at during the course of the evening. Everyone is welcome; join us any time from 19:00.

For more information on the club’s activities, contact Kos Coronaios at 079 148 4934 or via email at [email protected]

The sex workers and peer educators who get well-being education and health assistance

through Munna Ndi Nnyi have been hit hard by uncertainty after the social body that was fund-

ing their activities had withdrawn its funding. The Networking HIV/AIDS Community of

South Africa (Nacosa) had just stopped extending funding to several organisations in various prov-inces last month. Therefore the Munna Ndi Nnyi Sex-workers Programme, which has trained peer educators who provided free health education at a door-to-door level and truck stops, was also affected by this unexpected move.

“We have been hit hard by the cut-off of fund-ing,” the director of Munna Ndi Nnyi, Mr Bardwell Mufunwaini, said. “We feel that as Munna Ndi Nnyi we are going to lose the Makhado community, because people will not be receiving any health education like we used to provide them.”

He stated that there were people who had no courage to go to clinics for HIV tests, but they would come to Munna Ndi Nnyi’s office in Louis Trichardt for dignified testing.

“Our team was doing a very good job of teaching people about the dangers of unprotected sex and also distributing free, colourful Red Umberella condoms and lubricants, but then we may no longer be offering these services as we have no operational funds,” a peer educator said. He added that Nacosa used to supply them with educational material, paying rent for their office and providing other necessary support. “Now we are on our own and we can’t afford to finance all those activities.”

A sex worker and peer educator stated that she was worried about the health of her friends and some contacts. “If there are funds for us peer edu-cators to move around, doing our job of transferring health education to our people, it places those on ARV medication in a safer position since we en-courage them to take treatment. But now they might default due to the lack of advice and encouragement from trained peer educators.”

Mufunwaini stated that since Munna Ndi Nnyi got actively involved in the welfare of the sex workers in Makhado, there had been a decrease in incidents where sex workers and clients were harassed by the police and brutalised by other members of society. “People of this town have come to understand that sex workers are normal people like any other person,” Mufunwaini said. “If a sex worker gets mugged and she or he goes to lay a criminal charge and is told that they deserve being mugged because they are sex workers, are we not promoting crime?”

Mufunwaini said that providing health education to sex workers was a necessity. “When they have some health education on safe sex, they are able to protect themselves and their clients,” he said.

Mufunwaini appealed to everyone who would like to make contribution to this cause to contact him on 076 544 2065.

Mr Bardwell Mufunwaini poses with some literature produced for sex workers in Makhado. A team of peer educators attached to Munna Ndi Nnyi.

Dynamos too good for Mabedengwa Akonkwo and Danger crush Peace MakersTshiozwi Dynamos beat Elim Mabedengwa 2-1 in their MMK Administrators League match at Tshiozwi on Saturday.

It was evident from the start that Dynamos were going to collect full points, as the hosts were outclassed in all departments. They opened their account in the 20th minute, when all-rounder Mpho Mavhandu was on target, following a neat pass from Thabelo Netshiendeulu.

The Elim side came close to scoring in the 54th minute. Fhulufhelo Mainganye held onto the

Dakalo “Akonkwo” Nemakonde and Rofhiwa “Danger” Netshiungani were unstoppable when their team, Tshakhuma Na Ndilani (TNN), crushed Tshivhazwaulu Peace Makers 4-1 in their MMK Administrators League match at the Levubu Stadium on Saturday.

Nemakonde and Netshiungani scored two goals apiece. The score was not a true reflection of the game as TNN could have scored more than half a dozen goals. Netshiungani, a very experienced striker, wasted numerous scoring opportunities.

It took TNN only seven minutes to open their account. Nemakonde received a neat pass from Netshiungani and blasted in a rocket from close range. The keeper of Peace Makers, Phumudzo Mulaudzi, watched helplessly as the ball went beyond his reach.

TNN came close to scoring on three succes-sive occasions, with Netshiungani the culprit in all instances. He received a neat pass from Gift Nemutandani in the 24th minute and fumbled in front of the stranded keeper. He committed two similar blunders before the referee blew the half-time whistle.

Peace Makers approached the last stanza with more self-confidence, forcing the home side to play with their backs against the wall. It came as no surprise when a defender of TNN, Tsepo Makgoga,

ball for too long within the Dynamos’ danger area, until he lost pos-session. Mabedengwa did not lose hope, de-spite trailing by one goal. They initiated promising moves from behind but couldn’t beat the defence.

Mpho Mavhandu completed his brace and Dynamos in-

troduced Muhangwi Mukosi and Maligana Tshivhenga for Vhuthuhawe Netshiomvani and Martin Nengovhela respectively in the 67th minute.

Mabedengwa were awarded a free kick in the 35-meter area seven minutes later. Nicholus Maluleke scored from the set piece with a volley. Shortly thereafter, the referee flashed a yellow card.

Nkateko Baloyi of Mabedengwa was warned for a late tackle on Veron Mphasha.

handled the ball within his own penalty box. That was a clear penalty for Peace Makers. Their keeper, Phumudzo Mu-laudzi, converted from the white spot.

The goal seemed to have been an insult to the TNN strikers. They reclaimed the lead through Netshiungani in the 69th minute. Net-shiungani was in the thick of things again moments thereafter. He gave the ball a fi-nal touch, following a square pass from Nema-konde. TNN replaced Oscar Ntshauba with their diminutive mid-fielder, Maboho Nevari, late in the game.

Netshiungani dished a pre-cooked pass to Nemakonde, who com-pleted his brace with a

half volley in the 84th minute.

Guvhungwa United are the new PTV Muambi Soccer Challenge champions after beating Mpheni Home Defenders 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out. The event took place at the Mashau grounds on Sunday, 27 March. The prize-giving ceremony took place shortly after the match. In our photo, the Makhado LFA league administrator, Mr Simon Mashele, presents a trophy to the captain of Guvhungwa, Percy Munyai. Also in the photograph are Isaac Makhuvha of Mpheni Home Defenders and Messrs M Muambi and SS Ratshisevhe.

A cheque of R1 500 was presented to Guvhungwa United during the ceremony. In our photograph are Messrs Jones Maphala, Erphraim Muambi and Nicolus Muambi, Cllr Molly Mutele and Mr Thomas Siavhe.

Photographed during the presentation of the trophies are, from left to right, Velaphi Ramatsitsi, Makhado Mayor Cllr David Mutavhatsindi, Zamenkomste captain Raymond Seketa, Mulimisi Muneri (Safa Vhembe) and Violet Nesamasi (Mamu Sport Development).

Mamu teams receive their prize moneyThe teams that participated in the Easter soccer tournament organised by Mamu Commu-nity Sport Development shared R30 000 in prize money. The prizes were handed over during a gala dinner held at the Ravele Community Hall last Sunday, 27 March.

The chairperson of Mamu, Ms Violet Nesemari, praised the sponsors for their decision to sponsor the event. She said she was convinced that the event would help produce stars who would receive international rec-ognition soon. “Despite the diffi-cult economic conditions, we still find companies that are prepared

to share their takings and support us,” she said.

The chairperson of the Safa Vhembe Competition Commit-tee, Mr Mulimisi Muneri, thanked the sponsors for developing soccer in the rural areas. He said that future stars’ talent should be identified and developed at grassroots level.

The Makhado Municipality's mayor, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi, said that the government could not curb the high rate of unem-ployment alone. He appealed to the business community to follow in the footsteps of the different sponsors, saying that sport had become a major employment pro-

vider of late. He said individual clubs could not carry the financial burden of running the day-to-day affairs for the teams without sponsorship. The champions, Zamenkomste, went home with R10 000, a floating trophy, new soccer kit and gold medals. The runners-up, Madabani, collected R5 000, silver medals and new kit. Ramahantsha, who ended in the third position, received R2 000, new kit and bronze medals. Gogobole were given R2000 and a soccer kit for finishing fourth.

Raymond Sinungo and Khakhu Tshilinga of Zamenkomste were named player and top goal scorer of the tournament respectively.

Tshakhuma derby ends in 1-1 draw

Shandukani Mabirimisa of Madzivhandila controls the ball.

Shandukani Mabirimisa of Madzivhandila (right) and Rinae Madzhuta of United are focused on the high ball.

Forster Nkuna of Madzivhandila (left) and Mulisa Luvhengo of United wrestle to win the ball.

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) shared the glory with their neighbours, Tshakhuma RO United, in their MMK Administrators League match at the Tshakhuma Malaria grounds on Sunday. They played to a 1-1 draw.

TTM started the game like a house on fire, with their midfielders distributing good passes to the goal poachers. United spent the better part of the first half running for cover. The referee, Mr Mboniso Ndlovu, flashed the first yellow card in the 16th minute. Takalani “Franco” Ratshilima was booked for obstructing Shandukani Mabirimisa.

TTM were the first to blow the trumpet. Zwiswa Fhedzisani beat the keeper with a ground cutter after a nerve-wracking scram-ble within the box. United woke up after the goal and their midfielders started to play entertaining football. The score remained unchanged until the end of the first half, de-spite numerous attempts by the TTM strikers.

United strengthened their striking force by replacing Asivhanzhi Muthubi with his twin brother, Ipfi, three minutes into the last half. Muthubi combined well with Lufuno “CJ” Mugodi and Takalani “Franco” Ratshilima at the forefront.

United missed a fortune in the 57 th minu te . A defender of TTM handled the ball with-in the box and the referee was p r o m p t e d t o award a penalty to United. Pha-thutshedzo Ma-todzi shot wide from the white spot. Lindelani Mbedzi of TTM was booked with a card for pro-testing against the referee’s de-cision in the 67th minute.

Ipfi Muthubi scored the Unit-ed’s equalizer f i ve minu te s later. His volley hit the crossbar and bounced across the goal line. United re-placed Phathut-shedzo Matodzi with Ndivhuwo Makhado ten minutes before the final whistle in a bid to solid-ify the midfield, but that did not change the com-plexion of the game.

Highly motivated: Muziafera Blue Eagles show off their new kit.

New soccer kit inspires young rural teamA soccer kit donation for the once-high-riding Muziafera Blue Eagles at Tsitungulwane outside Vuwani could be just what the doctor ordered.

The club was formed in 1975 by the late George Raulinga and is currently campaining in the SAFA MMK in Vhembe. It has not been doing well lately, but things changed after a former resident, Thomas Mudau-Muth-

ikhitha, recently sponsored them with a full kit.

Club CEO Richard Fu-lufhedzani Vhangani said the performance of the team took a downslide after many of their boys passed Grade 12 and went to tertiary institutions. “We are busy rebuilding the team, but we have handicaps when it comes to finances. We cannot buy training equipment, but since we got the

kit, things have taken a new shape. We have not lost a match and we managed to beat log leaders Masia All Stars 4-0. Our morale is at an all-time high.”

He thanked Mudau-Muth-ikhitha and appealed to former players to join them to share their expertise.

He also asked businesspeople around Vuwani to support the team.

Two Limpopo teams, Baroka FC and Polokwane city, secured places in the quarterfi nal stage of the prestigious Nedbank Cup KO competition.

City beat Platinum Stars 2-1 in extra time at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg on Saturday, while the NFD side, Baroka FC, rose to the occasion and beat the Absa Premiership League side, Lamontville Golden Arrows, 2-0 at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban on Sunday.

The scorers for City were Edgar Manaka and Arlington Nyadombo, while Robert Ng’ambi hit the target for Stars.

Arrows started the game positively and almost took the lead in the sixth minute when a strike from the edge of the box by Nduduzo Sibiya struck the upright.

Baroka began to fi nd their footing in the game and earned a penalty on the stroke of half time when Donald Makondelela was brought down by Musa Bilankulu within the box. Jacky Motshegwa volunteered to take the penalty and converted from the spot.

Some quick counter-attacking play by the Baro-ka midfi elders gave rise to the visitors’ second goal in the 74th minute. Loyiso Simadla scored with a volley, following a square pass from Ndivhuwo “Segere” Ravhuhali.

Another Limpopo-based side, Magezi FC, were booted out of the competition by Bidvest Wits. They were brutally walloped 6-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium last Friday evening.

Free State Stars are also through to the quarter-fi nal stage. They beat Santos 1-0 at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday evening. The

Stars’ goal was an own goal. Igraam Rayners, the Santos’ defender, scored

an unfortunate goal while attempting to head the ball back to his goalie.

Jomo Cosmos will not take part in the next round of the competition. They lost 1-3 to Orlando

Pirates at the Olën Park Stadium in Potchefstroom on Saturday.

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Mbombela United 3-1 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria. Maritzburg United lost 0-2 to Mpumalanga Black Aces at the Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit.
