He added that, as young people, they took a conscious decision that they must begin to speak to govern- ment about a particular percentage of opportunities created. “We need government to improve on oppor- tunities created for the youth. We continue to reaffirm the struggle for economic freedom in our lifetime,” said Ludere. Ludere said that young people were happy about the call made by the ANCYL in Vhembe to remove the Makhado Mayor, Cllr Mavhungu Luruli. “We appreciate the decision of the ANC to recall the mayor,” added Ludere. He continued that the ANCYL fully supported the new mayor, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi. All of this comes after the ANC announced that Mutavhatsindi would take over from Luruli as mayor of Makhado. It is still not known where Luruli is going. Ludere said that he knew that Mutavhatsindi would add value to the betterment of the lives of the people. “He is the best and we are quite sure that he will not undermine the interests and aspirations of the youth of our municipality,” he said. He called on the residents of Makhado Municipality to unite in support of the new mayor. “There will be a lot of changes under the leader- ship of Mutavhatsindi,” said Ludere. Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the ANC in Limpopo, Mr Makonde Mathivha, confirmed a change in the leadership in Makhado Municipal- ity. He stated that Makhado was the worst-performing municipality in Limpopo, so they felt as the ANC they needed to intervene. “The municipality needed a change in leadership. The mayor was sup- posed to have taken a responsibility in this regard, but failed to act. So we decided to intervene to ensure that there is improvement in the munici- pality,” said Mathivha. The former mayor of Makhado Municipality, Cllr Mavhungu Luruli (left), congratulates the newly appointed mayor, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi. The provincial executive council of the ANC instructed Luruli to re- sign from her duties as mayor earlier this week. Although many people believe that the mayor’s removal was moti- vated by the fact that Luruli did not support Premier Cassel Mathale dur- ing the provincial conference of the ANC in December last year, Luruli did not show any bitterness about her removal. She said that she would not go anywhere, but would remain as councillor at the municipality. Mathivha added that the ANC felt that the municipal- ity needed a change in leadership. Mutavhatsindi first joined the municipality as a councillor in 2000. He became a PR Councillor in 2006, before being appointed Speaker of the municipality last year. In his acceptance speech, Mu- tavhatsindi saluted the ANC for trusting him with the responsibility. He added: “I appreciate that I started as a ward councillor and today the ANC wants me to be the face of this municipality. This means that the ANC has trust in me. It is not through wisdom or experience that one can succeed in this new responsibility, as the ANC has taught us that it is through collective wisdom that we can succeed.” Mutavhatsindi said that with people’s differences in terms of tribe, race, gender and religious affiliations, the ANC believed that “we can be united in our diversity.” He said he was committed to taking services to the people. During Tuesday’s meeting, Cllr Tebogo Mamorobela was appointed as the acting Speaker of the munici- pality. DA councillor Brian du Plooy wished the newly appointed mayor good luck with his appointment. “Mutavhatsindi must make sure he gives proper services to the people,” he said. Other political parties, including Cope, also congratulated the new mayor. The deputy chairperson of SAM- WU at the municipality, Mr Kh- wathelani Murovhi, said that his organisation welcomed the change. He said that the former mayor might have worked, but she needed assis- tance. “We believe in Mutavhatsindi. We know we will be able to reach the municipality’s objectives and deal with service delivery challenges. We are still going to engage with him,” said Murovhi. T C

Family angry after ambulance knocks granny down

Family of 15 left homeless after fire destroys shack

Journalist fined over Zim photos

A family from Bungeni outside Elim is angry, following a tragic incident where a 78-year-old granny was allegedly hit and killed by an EMS

A Tshikuwi family of 15 were left home-less after their only house, a two-room shack, perished in a fire in Nzhelele last Wednesday. The family members, most of whom are children, are now home-less, following the devastating incident.

The cause of the fire is not known, al-though some residents suspect arson. Out of the 15 family members, 12 are children. Zilia Ranku (22) is the eldest daughter in the family and she takes care of the other children while their mother, Margareth, works on a farm in Waterpoort.

She said that the family was now fac-

ing difficult times. “The children’s school uniforms were also destroyed inside the house when it burned. We do not even have a decent place to stay or food,” she said. Zilia added that she was appealing to any Good Samaritan who could assist the family during this difficult time to step forward.

The spokesperson for the Mphephu po-lice, W/O Lazarus Netshidzati, confirmed the incident. He said that the police had opened an inquest docket, following the incident. “Our investigations are still continuing and people must stop point-

ing fingers at each other,” he said. He dismissed claims that the burning of the shack was an act of arson.

According to the councillor for Ward 36 of the Makhado Municipality, Cllr Mbulaheni Magada, he had already started to assist the family with temporary ac-commodation, blankets and food. “The municipality also donated some food parcels and a tent to the family,” he said.

Magada appealed to businesspeople to get involved and assist the family. Anyone who can assist them with anything can contact Cllr Magada at 072 581 2431.

A South African freelance photo journalist was fined US$150 or 60 days in jail on Friday for taking pic-tures of border jumpers, the Lim-popo Bridge and the Beit Bridge Border Post on the Zimbabwe side.

Robin Nicholas Hammond of Cape Town was convicted on charges of contravening a section of the Pro-tected Places Act (taking pictures of a protected area without permission from relevant authorities) by a local magistrate, Mr Carrington Karid-zagundi. Hammond was, however, acquitted of the charge of contraven-ing the Immigration Act (failure to comply with the conditions of his permit) following failure by the State to prove its case against him. Initially, Hammond was also charged with violating the conditions of his visa permit.

The prosecutor, Mr Marvelous Chikomo, said that on 15 April at around 07:20, Hammond, who was in the company of Bertha Chiguvare, a Zimbabwean based in Musina, ar-rived in Zimbabwe through the Beit Bridge Border Post on a holiday visit. Hammond was granted a holiday per-mit by local immigration authorities. Hammond then proceeded to a local hotel, where he booked accommoda-

tion under Chiguvare’s name. The following morning, he teamed

up with Chiguvare and they went to Dulibadzimu Bus Terminus to look for someone who would lead them to an undesignated entry point used by border jumpers to cross into South Africa illegally.

On arrival at the bus terminus, they approached one Patrick Muleya, who offered to help them identify a person involved in assisting border jumpers to cross the Limpopo River illegally. Muleya took Hammond and Chiguvare to Terence Moyo, and they boarded a taxi to the illegal crossing point, where Hammond allegedly took pictures of border jumpers. He was, however, spotted by soldiers who were on a routine border patrol and he fled from the scene.

Hammond and Chiguvare later went to the Beit Bridge Border Post where they started taking pictures of travellers, the buildings and the bridge.

They were spotted by local police detectives, who confronted them, and Hammond was arrested. He was in possession of a sound tracker and a Canon digital camera containing images of the New Limpopo Bridge and sections of the river.

The Makhado Municipality has apologised to library users for the inconvenience caused during the renovation of the public library. This comes after the municipality had closed the library for several months. Municipal spokesperson Mr Louis Bobodi said that the municipality decided to renovate the library at a projected cost of R455 000, after learning that the roof had deteriorated and was leaking. “The leakage was causing damage to the books in the library. We had to replace the carpet as well,” he said. He added that the library would be open on 2 May. “We urge library users to continue to be patient while we finalise the renovations,” Bobodi said. In the photo, workers are busy with renovations at the library.

Granny Mhlaba Maluleke.

ambulance outside the Bungeni Health Centre last Friday.

Granny Mhlaba Maluleke was trying to cross the road when she was allegedly hit and killed by an on-coming ambulance. She died on the scene.

Now the family blames the Emer-gency Medical Services of the De-partment of Health and Social Devel-opment. They allege that the driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.

“To our surprise, the driver of the ambulance ran to the health centre and hid inside. Since then, we have not heard anything from the department. They did not even bother to visit the family,” said the victim’s nephew, Mr Knocks Vuma. He said that the family did not even have enough money to bury his granny.

The spokesperson for the Water-

val police, W/O Risimati Masonto, confirmed the incident. He said that the victim was coming from a nearby house when she was hit by “an EMS ambulance that was rushing to attend to an emergency at the health centre.” According to Masonto, the granny died on the scene.

He said that the police were inves-tigating a case of culpable homicide, following the incident.

“The incident happened at around 19:00. Police investigations are still continuing,” said Masonto. Vuma said that the granny would be laid to rest tomorrow (Saturday) at a local cemetery.

When contacted for comment, the EMS manager in the Vhembe District, Mr Mohale, referred our reporter to the provincial spokesperson, Mr Phuti Seloba, who could not be reached at the time of going to press.

Community members comfort Samuel Nenzhelele (left), the deceased´s husband, at the gravesite where a fridge was buried instead of the body of his wife.

When Jeanette Mudau (37) of Dopeni in the Nzhelele area died last week, her family was devastated and overwhelmed with grief. They regained their strength and faced the reality that they had to give her a decent burial.

As per protocol, the family informed the local traditional leader at Dopeni and received a piece of land to lay their beloved to rest. On Wednesday, the family, assisted by the local community, spent the whole day preparing the grave for the funeral, which was scheduled for Saturday.

On Friday, the family received some shocking news that the grave they had prepared for their loved one had been desecrated and that a fridge was buried inside the grave. It is alleged that the damage was caused by headman Vhakoma Vho Bethuel Shavhani of Shanzha, an adjacent village, who is not on good terms with his counterpart in Dopeni.

The family was so confused that they did not know what to do, but they were advised by the

Dopeni royal council to use an alternative grave-yard to bury their loved one in order to avoid incur-ring more costs if the funeral was to be postponed. With the assistance of the community, the new grave was dug during the night, an exercise that kept the gravediggers busy until the early hours of the burial day.

At long last, the deceased was laid to rest, but not where the family wanted. At the gravesite where the funeral was held, the actions of the headman were widely condemned by all stakeholders present. An announcement was made during the funeral that a mass meeting was to be held at the local royal residence to decide the way forward.

Narrating the family's ordeal, Samuel Nenzhe-lele, the husband of the deceased, said the death of his wife haddeeply affected them as a family. "We were saddened and in mourning and still trying to come to terms with our loss," he said.

He said after the death he had followed all the

protocols and was happy that even their traditional leader was at the gravesite to show them where they could lay their relative to rest. "We bought all the necessities like sand, bricks and cement for the erection of the grave stone. We spent a lot of money on all the preparations and we are very disturbed. Even the children are traumatised by everything that had happened," he added.

He said he was even more worried because the headman who had caused all the trouble saw them when they were busy erecting the grave but had not said anything to show his disapproval of the location of the grave. "We were deeply shocked to learn that he was the same one who had assembled hooligans to destroy our grave. We cannot even tell the reason behind the whole scenario, but we just wish that his conscience haunts him forever for the harm he caused the family," he said.

When approached for comment, Headman Ntsieni Makwarela, a member of the Dopeni royal council, was equally shocked. "This is the fi rst time we have witnessed such a scenario in this village. We are still shocked, because we know that there should always be better ways of communicating if there are some misunderstandings. We cannot vent our anger or settle our differences via the dead. We will sit down as a community and see how to chart the way forward," he said.

He cautioned the community to be calm and not to be carried away by emotions and take the law into their own hands.

A defi ant Bethuel Shavhani stood by his actions. He mentioned in a radio interview that "they cannot dig a grave on the road. I have heard that they are planning to come and harm me. Let them come, and I am ready for them."

Meanwhile, a village meeting was held at the Dopeni royal residence on Sunday. The meeting re-solved that a delegation be sent to discuss the matter with Vho Thovhele Midiyavhathu Tshivhase, who is the owner of the land in question. They were scheduled to meet Tshivhase yesterday (Thursday).

Ambani Radzuma is heading towards a police van after being sentenced to 10 years in jail.

A 22-year-old man from Madombidzha Zone 2 was sentenced to an effective 10 years in jail on a count of rape by the Tshilwavhusiku Regional Court last Thursday.

Ambani Radzuma was arrested after raping a woman at gunpoint on 27 September 2008 in Madombidzha village. Charges against two of his three co-accused, Thendo Sandani and Mpho Funyufunyu, were withdrawn by the State on the basis that they were not directly involved in the crime. While Radzuma had pleaded guilty, accused number one, Mpfuni Thonga, did not plead guilty and requested a separate trial. Thonga's application was granted and the next court appearance for him was set for 7 June.

During the court hearing, it was testifi ed that Radzuma and his three friends were on their way that night from a party in Zone 2, heading to Zone 1, when they met a 15-year-old girl. According to Radzuma, Thonga was the one who grabbed the girl's bag. The four men allegedly changed direc-tion and commanded the girl to walk with them until they reached a place where there were many mufula trees, near Tshikwarani Primary School. The State contended that Radzuma and Sandani threatened the girl with a gun and forced her into a kiosk shack, where they took turns to rape her.

According to a DNA expert's report, the DNA

samples taken from the victim matched those of Radzuma and Thonga. “I accept that I had wronged [the girl] and I wish to ask her to forgive me,” said Radzuma.

Radzuma's legal representative, Attorney Elton Makhadi, requested a lenient sentence for Radzuma since he had no previous criminal convictions.

When imposing the sentence, Magistrate NC Mthombeni said that although Radzuma was still a minor at the time of committing the crime, the seriousness of his offence needed a punishment that would send out a message that criminal ac-tivities were bad and not needed in society. “The court is also declaring Radzuma unfi t to carry a fi rearm, considering the gravity of his crime,” Mr Mthombeni said.

Dept warns against false purchase ordersThe Department of Health & Social Development in Lim-popo has warned all suppliers within the departmental da-tabase at all their institutions across the province of fraudu-lent offi cial purchasing orders.

According to a press release, this was brought to the attention of the department after several companies complained that the department was failing to pay them for services rendered.

“All the companies who com-plained indicated that they had allegedly received calls from an offi cial by the name of Mr Rapet-soa who is supposedly attached to the Department of Health & Social Development in office B30. The allegations state that

the offi cial had approached the companies, inviting them to bid for the supply of adult diapers and various goods at various departmental institutions,” says the department.

Once the companies have sent through their quotations, the of-fi cial will apparently ask for a fax number that he will then use to send the fraudulent offi cial pur-chase order. After having faxed the fraudulent offi cial purchase order, it is alleged that the offi cial will then advise the awarded company to approach another company which is alleged to have a standing contract with the department as a supplier and can help fast-track the supply since the goods are needed urgently.

“The said company will then, upon verbal agreement, request you to deposit half of the quoted amount before it delivers the goods to the institution as per the fraudulent offi cial purchasing order,” says the department.

According to the department, they have thus far received 12 fraudulent offi cial purchase or-ders for which the suppliers claim to have deposited the requested amounts of money. The depart-ment says they distance them from this practice and advises all suppliers not to render services telephonically, without having the original purchasing order and personally verifying with the department.

A mine and a plant nursery – two apparently contradictory concepts – have been brought together at the Vele Colliery of Coal of Africa (CoAL).

Last week, just two weeks before the offi cial opening of the Vele Colliery, the Zoutpans-berger was invited to visit the Vele Colliery .

Long before the gaping hole of the mine’s central pit becomes visible, visitors to the mine will pass CoAL’s temporary nursery fi lled with indigenous plants.

Even around the “dune-co-loured” coal plant itself, mopani bush can be seen – trees that were not in the way were left standing. Additionally, the plant tower was also built a bit lower for "aesthetic reasons".

Together with a road, lined with natural bushveldt, the gigantic opening of the central coal pit comes as somewhat of a surprise. In just fi ve months' time, 55 000 tones of coal have already been exhumed from the pit.

Yet in accordance with the law, CoAL general manager Ben Nolan said that they were determined to leave a legacy and become trendsetters in the min-

ing industry. They are after all, he said, the fi rst mine in South Africa that is operating with the approval of three different state departments and their laws.

“We don’t just talk the talk, we walk the walk,” Nolan said.

As part of the footprint that they want to leave after the mine is closed, the central pit is mined according to a “rollover open-cast mine methodology". This means that before another pit is opened up, the fi rst one will be rehabilitated. Plants and trees that have been removed will be replanted. This is why a nursery had to be built. All the plants - mopani, baobab and aloe - were removed carefully during the ground-clearance phase and are being taken care of until such time that regrowth will be started.

An existing experiment is also underway in this nursery. Ac-cording to CoAL's environmen-tal manager, Ephraim Mony-emoratho, they are currently experimenting with mopani trees to see if they can be grown in a nursery and then replanted in the wild.

Nolan further confi rmed that Vele is currently not using all

the water allocated to them in their water licence. Water is pre-cious to them, and every drop is saved by means of closed-tank systems. Currently, the mine is using salt water that is unfi t for human or animal use, which is being stored and recycled after-wards. The water is also closely monitored, at the mine as well as on the surrounding farms.

Another important asset to CoAL is their employees and their safety. They are currently employing close to 500 people, most of them from the Vhembe region. "Vele is for Limpopo," remarked Nolan.

As part of their employment strategy, CoAL has established the King Mphephu Bursary Fund for Vhembe students in-terested in disciplines such as engineering, surveying, geologi-cal and environmental sciences. The fund was started in 2009, and Vele currently has absorbed three students that have com-pleted their studies.

"We want to mine in a sustain-able manner, with particular em-phasis on the environment, but also on the people of the region," explained CoAL's investor rela-tions manager.

Attiya Ismail Moosa from Louis Trichardt not only received h e t L L B d e g r e e during the autumn graduation ceremony of the University of Pretoria, but also scooped up several of the university’s top awards.

Attiya Ismail Moosa from Louis Trichardt was one of several students to receive anLLB (law) degree during the autumn graduation ceremony of the University of Pretoria on 29 March.

What set Attiya apart from the many other stu-dents was not only that she received her degree cum laude, but also that she walked away with several of the university’s top awards as best student.

Attiya also received, among others, the Sasol prize for the LLB student with the best performance in law of damages or law of intellectual property. The prize goes to the students in both the English and Afrikaans class with the highest average. At-tiya’s average was 85%.

The university’s D&T Trust prize also went to Attiya. This prize is awarded to the best student in insolvency practice, with Attiya scoring an 84% average. Apart from these two prizes, Attiya also scooped up the Private Law prize, as well as a merit certificate in Law of Damages and Alternative Dis-pute Resolution. Since 2009 up until 2011 she was also on the dean’s merit list for overall academic percentage of higher than 75%. In 2010, she also received a Golden Key Certifi-cate for being in the top 15% of the law faculty. As for her future plans, Attiya is to continue with her master’s degree in corporate law on a part-time basis and will start with her articles at a Johannesburg-based company next year.

A Zimbabwean police officer manning a road block along the Beit Bridge-Bulawayo road was fatally hit by a South African-registered car.

The local police spokesperson, Sgt Loveness Mangena, said the incident occurred on Thurs-day at around 03:00 at the 116km peg. “Const Monias Machaya was manning a roadblock along the Beit Bridge-Bulawayo road when Michael Mohahleni Khomani, who was driving a Gauteng-registered Mazda 323, approached from a distance. Const Machaya, who was wear-ing a police bib, signalled for Khomani to stop. He failed to brake, however, and swerved onto the right lane, resulting in the vehicle's hitting the police officer, who fell onto the bonnet,” she said.

The car continued moving for a few metres while Machaya clung to the bonnet. When the vehicle came to a standstill, the constable fell headlong to the ground, Mangena said.

Mangena said Machaya sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures to the right leg and ribs. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he died on admission. The body was taken the same hospital's mortuary.

Mangena said Khomani, who is based at Diepsloot in Johannesburg, Gauteng, has since been arrested and appeared in court on a culpable homicide charge.

Phala Phala’s team the bestPhala Phala FM's sport show did it again when it was proclaimed a winner of the 2012 MTN Radio Awards during a gala banquet held at the Sandton Convention Centre last Saturday night (14th).

Mr Lance Rothschild, the CEO of the MTN Radio Awards, said that the awards banquet was the radio industry’s chance to get together as an extended family and to celebrate success, highlight achievement and ultimately honour those within the greater radio family whose great work ensured the longevity of this industry. "This is the work about which we are all so extremely pas-sionate,” he said. He added that the MTN Radio Awards were seen as a driver for excellence in radio and as a motivator for stations to make in-creasingly compelling programmes that ensure listener enjoyment. He stated that happy and fulfilled listen-ers remained loyal to their station.

“We received a bumper crop of entries this year, and the quality of submissions was of a very high standard," he continued. "I know that the adjudicators had their work cut out for them in listening to so

many entries. But I am delighted with the outcome of the awards and believe that we have exemplary winners this year," he said.

In 2002, Freddy Sadiki, who then was a Phala Phala FM's sport pre-senter, won the Castle Soccer Beat Presenter of the Year award. The following year, Tshililo “Chiraza” Nelufule won the same category. In 2008, Thilivhali “Big T” Muavha was chosen as the 2008 SABC Box-ing Presenter of the Year. In 2009 Muavha, yet again, won the Mellow Wood 5 Celebrity Challenge Sport Presenter of the Year award.

Phala Phala FM sport executive producer Mr Hyson Musandiwa congratulated the team, led by producer Tshililo Nelufule, and the presenters, Thilivhali “BigT” Muavha, Thina Ramantswana and Lucky Tshilimandila, for winning the award. “I hope that there are many more good things still to come,” said Musandiwa. He said that he dedicated the award to the listeners of the station who sup-ported the station and gave them the news.

The Makhado Municipality has issued a public notice announcing that the municipal public library will be open-ing its doors for public service next Wednesday (2 May).

The notice, dated 13 April and signed by the municipal spokesperson, Mr Louis Bobodi, is tagged onto the library gate.

This comes after the municipality is-sued a public announcement in December

2011 that the municipal library would be temporarily closed for public service “due to roof renovation” between 12 December 2011 and 5 January 2012. In January, the library never opened and library us-ers started expressing discomfort at the municipality's failure to complete the renovation work on time. The Limpopo Mirror had since carried two articles on this case. In the first story (23rd March),

Mr Bobodi told the paper that the library would open its doors on 10 April, which did not happen. Now library users con-tinue to hope that, this time around, the municipality's promise about the opening of the library doors will come true. The municipal letter offered no apology for the inconvenience caused by the late re-opening of the library has been added for the users' benefit.

News from Musina

“Leave our signs alone,” warns Musina

Special bicycle for special “bush scientist”

The Musina Municipality has issued a strong warning to all community members who are involved in the tendency of uprooting road signs along the local roads. This comes after several similar incidents were reported in area in the last three weeks.

“Those who are found guilty of these unbecoming practices will be subjected to the stron-gest disciplinary action. This amounts to malicious damage to property and perpetrators can stay in jail for a long time,” warns Head of Traffic Daniel Nembambula.

Nembambula says the signs are a very important part of the road: “Road signs give out a

number of messages regarding the road and what you as a driver or pedestrian should expect on the road. Therefore, if followed properly, road signs help main-tain discipline on the road. They help to prevent misunderstand-ing and accidents occurring on our roads.”

He adds that safety is the main reason traffic signs are posted along the roadways. “Signs ensure that each driver is aware of the rules and hazards of the road. Without such signs, many more accidents would occur. We will not tolerate a situation where vandals continue to dam-age the road signs without being apprehended.”

He says the municipality’s

law enforcement unit is out in full force and there will be no mercy for the perpetrators. “It costs the municipality a lot of money to erect those signs and we will not hesitate to bring all the perpetrators to book. We will work day and night to make sure that this behavior is totally eradicated in the Musina municipal area.”

He encourages community members to work with the mu-nicipality in identifying the perpetrators. “It is important to report these people, either to us or the police, so that the long arm of the law can take its course. It is only through unity that we can get rid of these unacceptable tendencies.”

“You can create your own com-fortable world, despite your poor financial background ...”

These are the encouraging words from “bush scientist” Shandukani Mudau, who has now become the toast of Mu-sina Skoonplaas because of his amazing creativity. Riding his amazing bicycle, Shandukani is always a centre of attention whenever he moves around the town of Musina. He is always surrounded by curious commu-nity members who are impressed by his creativity.

He calls his bicycle ‘Take me home Nanana’.

The steering wheel of an old car which has been fitted to the bicycle clearly displays the distinctive cre-ativity of the unrecognized “bush scientist”. The bicy-cle has also been fitted with a sound system to keep this music maniac entertained whenever he enjoys his ride. The sound system uses a rechargeable cell phone battery, which has been fit-ted into the extended power plugs. The USB port makes it easy for Shandukani to listen to a variety of music as he uploads hundreds of songs at a go.

“I could not afford to buy a big sound system. That is why I opted for a smaller one because it is cheaper and easy to maintain. Be-sides that, the battery life is longer because of the size

of the sound system. A fully charged battery goes for about three days, which is enough to keep me going. I love music and that is why I installed the sound system on my special bicycle. I had to make sure that it is as comfortable as possible because I spend most of my time riding the bike,” says Shandukani shyly.

The longest distance Shandu-kani has traveled on his special bicycle is a single trip of 30km. “I used to travel 30km from Mopane to Musina every Friday while I was still working on the farm. I also had to travel the

same distance back to work every Sunday afternoon. I used to enjoy it as motorists used to admire me as I was cycling along the busy N1 road.”

In his spare time, Shandukani repairs cell phones, radios, televi-sion sets and DVDs to keep the home fire burning.

Shandukani is now planning to build a bike that will be powered by a generator in the near future. “Nothing is impossible if one is dedicated and self-dependent. I know I will build a unique bike which will pass the prescribed roadworthy test.”

Sad story of suffering and pain for ZhouFor the past two years, this man has never eaten any food or drunk anything through his mouth.

He can also not swallow saliva, as his oe-sophagus is blocked. Doctors have opened a hole on his neck, so that when he produces saliva while asleep, it can drain through the hole. He now survives by injecting liquids directly into his stomach through a gastric tube, which goes straight to his small intestines. He has undergone more than 20 operations to fi x his oesophagus and the condition just remains the same.

This is the sad story the 26-year-old Tamiri-rashe Zhou of Musina Nancefi eld. The condition has also affected his voice as he speaks hoarsely, while tears of pain run down his face.

Originally from Zimbabwe, Zhou came to South Africa looking for greener pastures in 2003. He is now in the country legally as he uses his asylum seeker permit to access free medical facilities. “I was employed as a labourer for a construction company in 2010. My boss liked me so much, but some of my colleagues were jealous of me. One day, in July 2010, I felt a very serious and burning stomach pain, while at the same time I started vomiting and sweating. I could clearly feel death knocking at my door. I was taken to the local hospital where it was confi rmed that I had been poisoned. It was determined that the poison had also affected my oesophagus, and I was transferred to the Polokwane provincial hospital, where they confi rmed that my oesophagus was blocked.” Zhou said he was then transferred to Dr George Mukhari Hospital (formerly Garankuwa) in Gauteng, where several operations were done on his oesophagus, but doctors could not succeed in unblocking it. As a result of the condition, he can no longer work and he does not have money to buy the liquid foods on a daily basis. “I am now living with a Good Samaritan, but life is tough as I sometimes run short of the liquid foods. Doctors have advised me to inject milk, mageu, inkomazi, yoghurt, custard, fruit juice, soup and instant por-

ridge mixed with milk into my stomach everyday. Sometimes I am forced to inject pure water into my stomach as I don’t have money to buy those foods.” He said he had also been advised to try and inject very thin soft porridge with milk and margarine, thin, mashed eggs with mayonnaise, mashed banana, ripe pawpaw, mashed avocado and very soft, mashed pumpkin. Zhou added that there was no hope for recovery as doctors had done everything possible to unblock his oesopha-gus. “All I need is for community members to assist me by donating liquid foods for me as I can no longer work.” Zhou keeps a cloth with him, so that when his salivary glands produce saliva, he can just spit it on the cloth to avoid disturbing his closed oesophagus. He also demonstrated the painful process of drinking water, which, amaz-ingly, went in through a hole in his neck.

Community members who want to donate soft foods to Zhou can call him on 071 470 0977.

As a result of his blocked oesophagus, Tami rirashe Zhou now makes use of feeding tubes that have been fi tted to his stomach. The bandage on his neck protects a hole, which the doctors have opened to discharge saliva from his mouth.

Words of wisdom: the Mauna family listens attentively to Dr William Madzinge and Pastor George Muhali. The two prayed for the family.

Apostle and Prophetess Mauna assist each other in cutting the apostle´s 50th birthday cake during the function.

Week of festivities at Agape CentreA week of festivities at Agape Devine Heal-ing Centre at Ha-Nesengani in the Vuwani area reached a climax on Saturday when Vho Thovhele Toni Mphephu visited the church.

During the event, the church celebrated three years of its existence and Appostle Elijah Mauna’s 50th birthday. The function took place at the church centre. During the function, guests had the opportu-nity to view the brand new church building, which houses a modern auditorium where thousands of people can sit. It also houses a modern underground offi ce complex, garages and board room.

The guest speaker was internationally re-knowned evangelist Dr Madzinge, who encouraged congregants to look after the servants of God. Dur-ing the function, the Mauna family was showered

with gifts, which included a brand new Mercedes Benz sedan and an expensive couch.

Outlining the purpose of the function, Prophetess Mashudu Mauna said the church had achieved a lot in in the time of its existence. “Over a period of time, we have managed to be of service to this community and people from far and wide. We have assisted families by building them houses, assisting disavantaged students with bursaries and some of them are now graduating at tertiary institutions. This we could not have managed to if it were not for the grace of God, and this calls for a big thank you, hence this mammoth celebration,” she said.

She said the church, through the grace of God, has helped many to heal spiritually. “We will continue to serve the commmunity and we have a vision of turning this village into a town where all the residents and those from outside will benefi t,” she said.

She said plans were at an advanced stage for the building a 33-roomed guest house which will accomodate visitors and congregants during the quartely prayers. Another long-term wish is to build a hospita, which will benefi t the whole community.

“People are sick and some come with wounds that need doctors before we pray for them,” she said.VhoThovhele Toni Mphephu pleaded with churches to pray for the Ramabulana kingship. “I had many engagements today, but I did not confi rm any of them. I told myself that God would decide for me where to go, and I am happy that he told me to come and celebrate with you here,” he said.

An ecstatic Apostle Elijah Mauna said he was happy to be honoured at the age when working people were gearing themselves for exit. He thanked God, his wife, family, community and the church for being supportive throughout the years.

Mr Eric "Penny-Penny" Ngovani.

Flamboyant disco star Eric “Penny -Penny” Ngovani says his life is a nightmare as he is receiving threatening calls to kill him from his comrades.

Nkovani, who is now a councillor of the July Mawere ward in the Greater Giyani Municipality, said the threats came after he sent an SMS to the Mopani District Municipality's executive mayor, Joshua Matlou, pleading with him to stop contrac-tors who were supposed to build toilets in his ward at Mapuve village

He said that stopping them was part of the ward resolution that all people registered as business-people in the district must benefi t from the district project. “Later we discovered that all the people who were given contracts are close friends of politi-cians or even politician themselves. How can we say that we are representing people if we agree to such mismanagement?" he asked.

He said he spoke to the executive mayor and even to Premier Cassel Mathale about the matter. “I saw many councillors around the country whose homes are being burned down because of poor service delivery and corruption. When people revolt, they don't go the President or premier. They come to us directly and burn our houses. This is the reason why I hate corruption,” said Nkovani

He said after he had raised the issue, he created lots of enemies around him. Nkovani also said he had already changed his cell phone number because he does not sleep during the night as a result of death treats.

When approached for comment, Matlou strongly denied the allegations, saying that the municipality was very strictly about the awarding of tenders.

The Deputy Minister for Performance, Moni-toring and Evaluation in the Presidency, Mr Obed Bapela, has urged councillors and rep-resentatives of community-based organisations to help the government by popularising its programmes and plans among the communi-ties, so that rural communities could know how government works.

Bapela was speaking at the Porche-Villa Hotel near Thohoyandou on Friday during a post-state-of-the-nation address seminar, aimed at populating government programmes and plans.

It is new system of the government to engage with the communities after the President of the country has delivered his state-of-the-nation ad-dress. “We want to set the record straight about the allegations that in Limpopo there will be no new roads built until 2014 as absolutely untrue statements. We have set aside more than R928 million this fi nancial year to upgrade and build roads and fi x potholes, and Limpopo is set to benefi t,” he added.

One of the participants during the seminar, Mr Wilson Nemukongwe, a former school principal and now a businessman, praised the government for initiating a fund aimed at funding people who are already in business as another way of changing

By Silas Nduvheni

the lives of emerging businesspeople for the bet-ter. “We were told how to apply for funding and we can visit www.jobfund.org.za and download the application form. I can say the seminar was an eye opener for me and other people on how to access government funds,” said Nemukongwe.

The Vhembe District Municipality (VDM) presented its draft budget last week at a public hearing at the Makhado Show Hall.

The presentation of the draft budget for 2012/13 was made by Vhembe Councillor Dr FP Mdaka, the fi nance portfolio head. VDM has service level agreements with four local municipalities, namely Thulamela, Makhado, Mutale and Musina. Draft fi gures for 2013/14 and 2014/15 were also supplied.

The total draft budget for 2012/13 is R1 042 million, of which the capital budget is close to R503 million (48%) and the operational budget R539 million (52%).

Vhembe’s capi-tal budget will be spent on water services projects, sewer projects, rural sanitation, roads and capital outlay. With water being a vital com-modity, it is un-derstandable that R373 million, or 74% of the R503 million, is ear-marked for water services projects. The bulk of the R373 milliion will go to water projects in the Thulamela Municipality, where nearly R262 mil-lion has been budgeted.

Of the rest of the amount for water, R77 million will go to Mutale and R34 million to the Makhado Municipality. R20 million has been allocated to sewer projects in Makhado and R8 million to Thulamela.

The budget for sewerage forms close to 6% of the capital budget. R26 million (roughly 5% of the capital budget) is allocated to rural sanitation and all of it will be used in Thulamela.

The budget for roads constitutes close to

R22.4 million or 4 % of the capital budget. Of that amount, R13,5 million has been allocated to Thulamela, nearly R4.9 million to Musina and R4 million to Makhado. The rest of the capital outlay (11% or R53 million) is for VDM.

The operational budget of R539 million consists of, among others, employees-related costs (salaries) of R372 million, which forms 69% of the operation-al budget and close to 36% of the total expenditure. Add the close to R9 million for the remuneration of councillors and the salaries total R379 million. The budget for VDM’s general expenses is R99 million (10% of the total budget and 18% of the operational

budget) and R59 million for repairs and maintenance. That forms 6% of the total budget and 10% of the operational bud-get.

W h a t a r e the sources for VDM’s needed revenue of R1 042 mill ion? VDM wil l receive a

conditional grant of close to R476 million and an unconditional grant of R476.4 million. The VAT refund of SARS is expected to be R44 million and water sales will collect R41million. Interest will amount to R4 million and R600 000 will come from unspecifi ed other sources.

While the budget for 2012/13 totals R1 042 mil-lion, it will rise in the next year to close to R1 105 million and in 2014/15 to R1 146 million.

“Despite all the economic disarray, the munici-pality has a mandate to create a better life for all by providing basic services to the community,” were the fi nal words of VDM on their budget presentation.

Two major public amenities in Louis Trichardt, the public library and the public swimming pool, have now been out of use for months on end. After several months of no sign of any roof-mending activity at the public library, work is now in progress, after a newspaper report on the serious delay. At the municipal swimming pool, there is still, after yet another full season, a lack of any visible maintenance activity behind the locked gates.

Vho-Rosinah Nkhumeleni (44) does her shoe repairs in the open in Louis Trichardt.

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho

Nkhumeleni repairs shoes with prideIn this day and age when the scarcity of jobs and the frus-tration of not fi nding employ-ment seem to be the talk of the day, it is heartwarming to see a woman sitting in the town's busiest area, repairing shoes for members of the public.

Vho-Rosinah Nkhumeleni (44) does her shoe repairs in the open in Louis Trichardt. She stays in Manavhela village in the Kutama area, where she shares her house with her three children. “Are you surprised to see me repairing shoes?” she laughs as she speaks with people who stand around watching her work. “This is my job.”

Nkhumeleni says that she

started repairing shoes in 1996, when she had seen her late husband doing the same job at home. She continues that there is little money to be made from shoe repairing, but she is quick to add that people must not pity her. “Shoe repairing is just like any other job,” she says. “Ever since my husband's death, I've been using money from this small business to bring up my children.” The biggest challenge for Nkhumeleni is when a client brings a pair of shoes for repair and then does not come back to collect them. She says that it consumes her precious time, energy and resources. “I've got many shoes of people who

have not come to collect them,” she says.

When she gets home at around 18:30 after work, she still does all the domestic chores any typi-cal woman has to do at home. On Sundays, she attends the True Worshippers Christian Centre and, she says, it is in this house where the source of her spiritual-ity is revived.

“As women, we must stop grumbling and complaining about men not doing anything for us,” she says, putting aside a pair of shoes of which she has just fixed the soles. “Believe in God and He will give you the many blessings which you deserve.”

A Zimbabwean man from Zhombe Village in Masvingo, suspected to be tormented by avenging spirits, has walked nearly 1 000km, while pushing a wheelbarrow from his rural home to Beit Bridge, saying he was running away from a “group of people” stalking him.

Mr John Chinhongo (72) claims that the mysterious people following him are giving him sleepless nights and he is now looking for a tranquil place to stay away from the hustle and bustle. Limpopo Mirror caught up with Chinhongo just outside the Mbalabala area on Thursday. He was pushing a wheelbarrow stuffed with clothes, blankets and pots. He said he was coming from Beit Bridge, heading to Botswana.

Chinhongo has become an attraction for passersby who are giving him foodstuff.

“I come from Zhombe and started my journey last month. I am running away from a group of people following me. They threaten me with death if I resist taking their orders. They are really disturbing my peace, and anytime I try to settle down, they continue to push me, instructing me to move on.

“When I arrived in Masvingo from my village, they ordered me to go to Beit Bridge. Upon my ar-rival in Beit Bridge, they told me to proceed to Botswana, so that is where I am going now to settle for the rest of my life,” he said.

Chinhongo relies on food

“Spirits have chased me for 1 000 km”handouts from well-wishers and motorists and for security, he says, his masters, who are report-edly the ones stalking him, are his source of strength.

“As for food, I rely on hand-outs from well-wishers, and I only take a bath when I come across a river. Even if I am of-fered a lift, I will not accept the offer as those people stalking me pledged to give me the security and strength to continue walk-ing,” he said.

Chinhongo further said he was

going to make a stop-over in Bu-lawayo before proceeding with his long journey to Botswana.

When Limpopo Mirror asked him if he had any travel docu-ments in place for him to cross to Botswana, he claimed that those people guarding him would assist him to cross the border to his promised land.

It remains a mystery, however, whether the man will ever reach his destination.

Four-year-old boy killed in hit and run

Mr Isaac Chabalala, Mr Mzamani Makondo, Mr Joseph Ndou and Mr Phineas Malange were among those who were on standby at the Louis Trichardt information centre during the Easter weekend.

A four-year-old boy was alleg-edly killed by the reckless driv-er of a vehicle along the Rabali-to-Mauluma road in Nzhelele last Saturday, Mphephu police have said.

In confi rming the incident, the spokesperson for the Mphephu police, W/O Lazarus Netshid-

zati, said that the boy, Mashudu Mukhadakhomu, was walking alongside the road when he was hit by a car. “The toddler died instantly,” he added. Netshidzati said that the police had opened a culpable homicide docket, fol-lowing the incident.

“No one has been arrested

as yet; however, police inves-tigations are still continuing,” he added. Netshidzati warned motorists to reduce speed along this busy road. “Motorists must always be cautious of pedestri-ans. People must also not walk very close to the road as it also puts them in danger,” he warned.

Pedestrian killed

Has anyone spotted Philemon Mukhese?

“I know that I am doing a worthy job”

An 18-year-old man died after he was hit by a car at Ramavhoya village in Nzhelele last Saturday. Mr Tha-belo Rambigeli was walking on the side of the road when he was allegedly hit and killed by an on-coming vehicle.

The spokesperson for the Mphephu police, W/O Lazarus Netshid-zati, confi rmed the in-cident. He said that it happened at roughly 22:00. “The police are investigating a case of culpable homicide, fol-lowing the incident,” he said. Netshidzati said that investigations were still continuing. He warned pedestrians against walking next to the road at night. “Peo-ple must also refrain from drinking and walk-ing next to the road,” said Netshidzati.

Ms Carol Phiri, in her personal capacity, and not as mayor of Musina, celebrated her 28th birthday with close family members and friends at a private ceremony that was held at Shammah Lodge outside Musina last Sunday.

Philemon Mukhese.

Mr Michael “Buda Mike” Maluleke is fi xing a single couch under a tree at Elim.

Thikhathali Libago of Gogobole ended second during the 12 Km Charity Challenge Champ of Champs race that was held at Stellenbosch University last Saturday. He was awarded a silver medal and he also qualifi ed for the SA Athletics Championship that will be held in Kimberley on 19 May.

It is almost four months after the mysterious disappearance of Phi-lemon Mukhese (27) of Mangondi.

He went missing on 3 December 2011 at a local hospital.

He had suffered severe injuries in an attack at a local bar and was allegedly taken to the hospital by ambulance. According to reports, he was left at the hospital, but was later reported missing when family members went to check on him. He has not been seen since then.

The Thohoyandou police have urged the public to help in the search,

which has so far borne no fruits.Thohoyandou police spokesperson

Const Avhafarei Tshiovhe described Mukhese as being tall and of slender build. He was last seen wearing brown shoes, a brown denim jean and brown jacket.

“We are making an appeal to those who have information about his dis-appearance to please contact us. Their information will be dealt with in the strictest confi dence,” she said. Those with information can contact the po-lice at 015 960 1000 or 082 678 8362.

“If you love what you do, this skeletal mess is nothing,” says Michael “Buda Mike” Maluleke while inspecting a couch with tattered covers. He nods his head again. “I give it a new look and form, and that’s part of self-satisfaction. I also know that I am not doing it for myself, but for the next person.”

Buda Mike, from Magangeni village at Elim, is a self-employed entrepreneur who fixes furniture to earn a living. He says that he started repairing and covering chairs, sofas and beds after he, as a small boy, had watched his uncle doing the same job. As his love of upholstery grew, he learnt upholstery skills at a training centre to add to the knowledge that he already had.

The Elim upholsterer says that his biggest challenge is when he has to correct factory errors on the object. In some

cases these errors, he says, the client hadn’t even noticed for all the years they had been using a sofa or chair. “Some people may just look at me and despise me as I work under the tree,” Maluleke says. “But I know that I am doing a worthy job. Then I am proud of my skills and abilities.”

Maluleke maintains that many youths who came to work for him as assistants are now fully

employed in big companies around the country. “It’s true there’s shortage of jobs in our country, but we must just try to use the knowledge and skills we have to create jobs for ourselves and those around us,” he says. “In today’s world, job creation is necessary. I think people mustn’t only wait for a job opportunity to come their way. You must stand up and do something.”

A talented 13-year-old athlete from Soutpansberg Primary School needs a coach to take her to the next level in her sporting career. In the photo, Zwivhuya Siebe, a Grade 7 pupil, displays her medals and trophies won during the past season’s athletic competitions. She took part in the100 metre, 200 metre, high-jump, shotput, javelin and discuss events. Last year, she was chosen as the school’s Sports Girl of the Year. Coaches who are interested in shaping her talent can phone 079 1943 807.

Officials from the Department of Safety Security and Liaison and Thulamela Municipality ran the workshop. W/O Mashudu Madida of the Makuya police said the workshop was neccessary as almost all the structures had been relaunched last year. “We have to assist these organisations, so that they can carry out their mandate with ease. They should know what is expected of them, and as most of them are still new, it will be to their benefit,” he said.

He said they hoped to realise a big decline in crime in the villages after the workshop. “After all, crime happens in the village where these structures operate. We cannot understand how crime can continue to go up when it is happening right under their noses. They will be able to filter information to the police quickly and suspects will have nowhere to hide,” he added.

Rabelani Nevhungoni, the chairperson of the local Youth Against Crime, said they benefitted a lot from the workshop. “There are so many things that we thought we knew that we learnt during the workshop, and we just wish they were held on a continuous basis,”added Nevhungoni. He said they would be able to work from an informed position from now on.

Lucas Lamola of Dinare controls the ball, while Meshack Maphangule of Rospa tackles him from behind.

In their Vodacom Promotional League match at the FNB Makwarela Stadium on Satur-day, Rospa United let Dinare FC off the hook and suffered a 1-2 defeat.

As if they were going to reg-ister a historic victory, United were all over Dinare in the first 20 minutes. Dinare did not panic, despite playing with their backs against the wall. Instead, they took their time to study their opponents and make sure that they neutralise them at strategic points.

United managed to score their only goal, despite the opponents'

playing defensive football. They were awarded a free kick in the 30-meter area. Kulani Madlalati beat the offside trap and tapped the ball in. The keeper of Din-are, Skhumbuzo Zwane, tried to save the situation by blocking Madlalathi’s way, but he was not successful.

Dinare gained momentum as the game progressed. They were awarded a penalty in the 29th minute. Tokelo Liaga was brought down within the box and the referee, Ms Lufuno Nema-govhani, never hesitated to point at the white spot.

Bafana Kau tried his luck, but

he was unfortunate as the United keeper, Mxolisi Ncube, denied him a goal through his brilliant save. The captain of Dinare, Mi-chael Mazibuko, was cautioned with a card for protesting against the referee’s decision.

Ntsieni Makhado of United was also reprimanded with a card for wasting time.

Makwele Makgau scored the opening goal for Dinare in the 59th minute. Mduduzi Skhakhane of United shot wide after beating the keeper. Hosia Sesebele scored Dinare’s win-ning goal three minutes before full time.

Time for Tshakhuma Utd to celebrateAfter winning the league championship in Stream D of the Vhembe SAB League this season, Tshakhuma RO United decided to celebrate the team’s achievement in a style of their own. The celebration party was held at the Nandoni Dam picnic site last Saturday afternoon.

According to the team’s head coach, Mr Mashudu “Culio” Ndou, the party was organised and sponsored by the team’s sponsor, Mr Apie Saayman from Globe Finance. As a token of appreciation for a job well done, Mr Saayman handed over a soccer kit, training kit, gold medals, trophy and 30 pairs of tracksuits to the captain of the team, Asivhanzhi Muthubi.

According to Saayman, the value of the items is R22 000. He said that he was happy with the relationship between his company and the club. He stated that he would continue to sponsor the team in the coming years, depending on the financial position of the company.

During the ceremony, the team’s head coach, Mr Mashudu Ndou, said that the sponsorship wouldgo a long way in boosting the team’s morale during their promotional playoff matches, which are expected to start in a few weeks' time.

Tshakhuma RO United’s performance was impressive throughout the season. They managed to win 22 of the 30 matches they played, losing

three and drawing five. When asked about their state of readi-ness for the coming playoff matches,

Ndou said that they were ready for the challenges. He cited players like Asivhanzhi Muthubi (captain), Lufuno Mu-godi (leading goal scorer) and Khathu Mukomafhedzi (centre back) as some of his secret weapons.

He further indicated that they were lucky to have the former national player of the Nether-lands, Mr Frans van der Linden, in their camp. According to him, Van Der Linden is giving the technical staff important advice as part of the preparations for the much-talked-about promotional playoff matches.Masinga Nesthiendeulu and Xintuzuyo Hlungwani fight for the ball.

Nobela All Stars were lucky to escape with a 1-all draw in their Vodacom Limpopo League match against Basel FC at the Lesley Manyathela Stadium in Musina on Saturday.

Basel enjoyed more ball pos-session, but their promising moves were turned into a dis-appointment by the rock-solid defence of Stars. No goals were seen during the first half. This trend continued in the second half and was influenced mainly by the fact that Stars were cool-ing the ball down in the middle of the park, thus giving their opponents no chance to do as they pleased as was the case in the first half.

Although two of their key players went into the referee's book, Basel continued to fight as an organised team. The two players who were cautioned with cards for rough tackling were Gift Ramaxwaila and Matodzi Dzhabuli.

The visi t ing side came close to scoring in the 35th minute. The assistant referee kept his flag down at a time when everyone was con-vinced that Maringa Netshiendeulu would have scored after he had beaten goalkeeper Harold Ndlovu and was left with the empty net, but his shot missed the

pole by an inch.Basel came back strongly in

the last half. They continued to mount pressure on the defence of the local lads.

They were the first to draw blood in the 60th minute after a defender of the home team, Daveny Howani, handled the ball in his penalty area and the referee pointed to the white spot. Lowis Chauke converted this penalty into a goal.

After the goal, Stars replaced Vusimusi Phiri and Malesa Mo-

shoto with Rhulani Manganye and Foster Baloyi respectively later in the game. This proved to be a clever move on the part of the Stars' technical side. Their long-awaited goal came in the 88th minute when Cebo "Jomo" Masena dribbled past two de-fenders in a row and passed the ball to his teammate, Malesa Moshoto. He was brought down inside the penalty area and the referee pointed to the penalty mark. Thembisani Nevhulamba equalised from the spot.

The Tshisimani Educational Sup-port Trust (TEST) will be hosting its fourth annual career day on 19

May at Mulima Secondary School.According to the organisers, the

aim of the career day is to educate

Basel FC and Giyani Hotspurs will meet at the Malamulele Stadium tomorrow for their Voda-com Promotional League match. Both teams have good reason take the match seriously.

They are both fighting to stay within the top eight bracket, come the end of the season.

Basel are still fresh from a 1-1 draw against No-bela All Stars at the Lesley Manyathela Stadium in Musina. Hotspurs will not find it easy to penetrate through the rock-solid defence of Basel, which is marshalled by the vastly experienced Tshifhiwa Ramatsea and Nhlamulo Maluleke.

The other Vhembe District-based side, Phungo All Stars, will also play in front of their home crowd. They will host Super Eagles at the Eltivillas grounds. Super Eagles are almost sure of facing relegation at the end of the season as they are cur-rently lying at the bottom of the log.

Winners Park are determined to maintain their leadership on the log when they face Magezi FC at the Seshego Stadium. Magezi are difficult to beat

Dynamos and Bay United will lock horns in their National First Division League match at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane tomorrow after-noon. Both Dynamos and Bay United are not on the safe side when it comes to relegation.

Time is quickly running out for Dy-namos, and losing against Bay United tomorrow will push them deeper into the danger zone.

United proved beyond doubt that they are serious about escaping relegation at the end of the season when they collected

full points against the-so called big guns recently.

In the other National First Division League match that will also be played tomorrow afternoon, Sevutsa Stars will play against FC Cape Town at the Kan-yamazane Stadium in Nelspruit.

Sevutsa Stars are in top form of late and for that reason, FC Cape Town will be in for a big surprise if they take them for granted.

On Sunday, United FC will be the host in their match against Chippa United. The match will be played at the Botshabelo

Stadium. The title chasers, Thanda Royal Zulu, will be away to try their luck against FC AK at the Eldorado Park Stadium in Johannesburg. Although it will be an away fixture for them, Royal Zulu remain the favourites for the match.

Carara Kicks will host Mpumalanga Black Aces at the Phuthaditshaba Sta-dium. Witbank Spurs will host African Warriors at the Ackerville Stadium in Witbank. In the only match that will be played this evening, Blackburn Rovers will play against Atlie FC at the Buffalo City Stadium.

Things are rapidly moving from bad to worse in the Dynamos camp. They gave away more league points last weekend when they lost 2-3 to Chippa United in their NFD match at the Giyani Stadium last Friday evening.

The visitors from the Mother City were organised in all departments, beating the local boys with pace. They scored their opening goal in the ninth minute through Freddy Thaleng.

What followed thereafter was a see-saw battle, with Dynamos retaliating to whatever the visitors did to them.

It was a late goal by Velly Stemmer which gave United a well deserved vic-tory. Dynamos are now lying on the second-last position on the log, following their successive poor results.

The University of Pretoria are still lead-ing the pack. They collected full points last weekend when they brutally wal-loped Sevutsa Stars 0-4 at the Absa Tuks Stadium in Pretoria on Sunday afternoon.

Thanda Royal Zulu remain on the right track for the league title after beating the other title chasers, Blackburn Rovers, 1-0. Thanda Royal Zulu are now one point

behind University of Pretoria, following the victory.

African Warriors pushed Bay United into the danger area by beating them 2-1 at the Charles Mopedi Stadium in the Free State. Witbank Spurs are now on the safe side in terms of relegation.

They beat Atlie FC 1-0 at the Senaba Stadium in Johannesburg.

Mpumalanga Black Aces held FC AK to a 1-1 draw at the Ackerville Stadium in Witbank, while Vasco da Gama and United FC drew 2-2 at the Parow Park Stadium in Cape Town.

Feast of goals for DragonsSpectators were treated to a feast of goals when Ravele Black Drag-ons gave Madodonga Limpopo Professionals a 5-3 drubbing in a Limpopo Dairy League match at the Ravele grounds on Sunday .

Dragons could have scored more than a dozen goals, had they man-aged to convert all their chances. Joseph Mafela of Professionals open the scoring in the 16th minute, when he received a marvellous pass from Tshifhiwa Davhana. Their celebration was cut short when Dakalo Mukhavhuli scored from the penalty spot after a defender of Dragons handled the ball inside the penalty area and the referee pointed to the white spot .

When the referee blew the half-time whistle, the score was 1-1. The hosts were dictating terms in all departments. The midfielder-cum-striker for Dragons, Raymond

Rakhavha, was booked for wasting time in the 56th minute.

Dragons added more life to their midfield when they introduced Tshifhiwa Mahuwa for Azwinndini Mungoni. Ronewa Mukhavhuli received a loose ball from the left corner and beat the Professionals keeper with a ground cutter.

The Kutama lads lost hope when Dakalo Mukhavhuli scored Drag-ons’ third goal. Vhutshilo Baloyi caught the Dragons’ keeper off-guard and blasted in a groundcutter from the far let corner to score his team’s second goal. The fourth goal was an honour for substitute Phu-mudzo Mada. Professionals’ third goal was scored in the 87th minute via Tshifhiwa Davhana. Ravele’s last goal came when Tshifhiwa Mahuwa caught the opponents’ keeper off guard and blasted in a half-volley from inside the box.

Ronewa Mukhavhuli controls the ball, while Josephe Mafela is running to attack.

Azwindini Mungoni attacks the ball, with Vhutshilo Baloyi behind him.

“We have invited a number of educational institutions and organi-sations who will be pre-senting to the learners, showcasing the different careers that can be fol-lowed at their specific company,” explains Walter Ramapala, one of the trustees and an attorney by profession.

The TEST career day will focus on the legal, financial, life sciences, agriculture as well as engineering industries. Not only does the TEST career day open win-dows of opportunities for the pupils, but it also provides an understand-ing of what subjects must be taken at school in order to pursue the different careers.

Leopards disappoint against AmaZuluA poor performance from Black Leopards in the second half saw them concede three goals as Lidoda Duvha went down 4-1 to AmaZulu in an Absa Premiership match at the Giyani Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The result means Leopards are now only one point above Santos, in 14th place, following the Cape side’s win over Kaizer Chiefs at the same time. AmaZulu moved up to seventh on the log with the win, jumping above Ajax Cape Town.

Neither side was overly impressive in the open-ing 45 minutes and some sloppy defending by Leopards saw them concede a free kick 20 yards from goal in the 16th minute.

Cue Marc van Heerden, who stepped up and duly punished the home side with a superb free kick that found the top corner of the net to give Usuthu the lead, 1-0.

The goal seemed to awaken the Leopards team and they quickly hit back in the 28th minute, with Luyolo Mapolisa scoring from 18 yards out with a well-placed shot to level matters.

The second half saw Leopards playing the better football, but they continued to waste opportunity after opportunity in the fi nal third of the fi eld. That was not the case for the visitors, who took their fi rst chance of the second 45 when Siyabonga Thwala scored AmaZulu’s second goal of the afternoon in the 63rd minute.

The goal was a bit fortuitous as Thwala saw his mistimed shot deceive the keeper and fi nd the back of the net to make the score 2-1.

Ayanda Dlamini virtually guaranteed AmaZulu the points in the 74th minute when he scored the game’s fourth goal before Goodman Dlamini put the result beyond doubt with Usuthu’s fourth goal in the 91st minute, making the fi nal score 4-1.

• Black Leopards fought back from two goals down to claim a 2-2 draw away with Free State Stars in an Absa Premiership match at the Charles Mopedi Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Lidoda

Duvha looked destined to suffer a defeat when Ea Lla Koto were two goals up, thanks to Kennedy Mweene and Zakari Morou. Late strikes from

Mongezi Bobe and Itumeleng Duiker saw them claim a valuable point in their quest to avoid relegation from the PSL. - Backpagemedia
