ANNOUNCING OURNEW SWIM LESSON PROGRAMThis summer, we’re launching a brand-new swim lesson program. This new child-centered curriculumwill help your child swim confidently at his or her own pace. All classes will focus on water safety, havingfun while learning, building character and increasing self-confidence. We’ll provide parents with helpfulresources and weekly feedback to help them be active participants in their child’s learning process.

SWIM STARTERS – PARENT/CHILD GROUP LESSONS(AGES 6 MONTHS TO 3 YEARS)

Close supervision is the best way to prevent drowning. Through thisprogram, parents and caregivers will learn how to supervise children inthe water, how to prevent accidents and how to plan for emergencies.This program also promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness forchildren ages 6 months to 3 years of age. Classes in this phase include:A: Swim Starters: Water DiscoveryParents accompany children in this class, which introduces babies andparents to the aquatic environment through exploration that encouragesthem to enjoy themselves while learning about the water:

• To encourage developmentally appropriate expectations by parents ofbabies enrolled in water enrichment programs

• To introduce and emphasize basic aquatic safety to parents

• To provide a positive parent/child aquatic experience and anopportunity to build the parent/child relationship

• To provide parents and children the opportunity to share commonexperiences, socialize, and interact with one another

B: Swim Starters: Water ExplorationIn this class, parents are guided to work with their child to explore bodypositions, floating, blowing bubbles and fundamental safety and aquaticskills. The general goals of the program are:

• To encourage children to explore their aquatic environment and theirown skills with parents’ help

• To introduce basic water skills such as kicking, breath control, andbody control or balance

• To encourage children to make purposeful movement in the water andmovements in response to visual and verbal cues

• To have fun in the water using toys and floatation devices andinteracting with other children

• To emphasize basic aquatic safety to parents

• To provide a positive parent/child aquatic experience and anopportunity to build the parent/child relationship

SWIM BASICS FOR PRESCHOOLERSGROUP LESSONS (AGES 3-5)

Designed to meet the needs of preschoolers, these stages build upon afoundation of water safety and drowning prevention by teaching wateradjustment and swim-readiness skills through fun and creative activities.Classes in this phase include:

Level 1: Water AcclimationThe water acclimation class introduces swimmers to the pool andhelps them develop safe water habits. Children develop comfort withunderwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling intoa body of water. This stage lays the foundation that allows for the child’sfuture progress in swimming. The general goals of the program are:

• To encourage children to explore their aquatic environment and theirown skills with instructors’ help

• To teach basic aquatic and boating safety, and allow children to acceptsome of the responsibility for safe practices

Level 2: Water MovementIn this class, children are taught skills that focus on body position andcontrol, forward movement and directional change. This stage alsoreinforces how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.The general goals of the class are:

• To encourage children to propel themselves and glide through & water

• To develop basic water safety skills in the form of jump, push, turn andgrab, and swim-float-swim

Level 3: Water StaminaIn this class, children focus on swimming longer distances and areintroduced to rotary breathing, integrated rotary breathing and integratedarm and leg action. In the event of falling into a body of water, childrenlearn how to swim to safety. The goals of the program include:

• To develop rotary movement with breathing in the form of side gliderecovery position

• To encourage forward movement on the front and back

• To practice safety techniques in deep water

• To develop the front crawl, back crawl and butterfly strokes

• To practice safety techniques in deep water

Level 5: Stroke DevelopmentIn this class, students continue to work on their stroke techniqueand all major competitive strokes are introduced.The goals of the program include:

• To develop stamina in the front crawl and back crawl strokes

• To develop the breaststroke and butterfly strokes

• To build endurance techniques for deep-water safety

Level 6: Stroke MechanicsIn this class, students refine their stroke technique on all of themajor competitive strokes and learn about competitive swimming.The goals of the program include:

• To develop endurance in the competitive strokes

• To develop skills related to competitive swimming like racing startsand flip turns

• To enhance skills and build endurance in deep water

TEEN/ADULTFor teens and adults just learning to swim or wanting to build onexisting skills, this program gives adults and teens of all ability levelsthe opportunity to receive instruction tailored to their specific needs.

In addition, we also provide private swim lessons for those whoprefer individualized instruction.

BIRTHDAY PARTIESCome Celebrate with Us! Looking for a fun location to host your nextbirthday party, family reunion or company event? The Y is the venue for you.

Toddler Carnival Bash (Ages 2-4) Bounce house fun for one hour is themain focus of this toddler party with carnival games thrown in for addedexcitement and one hour in the party room.

Wet 'N Wild Party (All Ages) This party is splash-tastic! Your choice ofthe large or small pool (includes locker room time). Based on age and swimability of the children.

Time to Climb (Ages 5+) Come join the adventure and climb to the topof our 25-foot rock wall. Participants will have a blast trying to climb tothe top with 4 different climbing routes to challenge your climbingexperience. All participants are required to wear closed-toed shoes.A safety harness and helmet will be provided and all rock wall parties willbe led by 2 instructors.

All Sports Jam (All Ages) This party is perfect for the little sports nut inthe family. Various sports and activities will be conducted in the gym oroutside on fields with 2 instructors. Sports consist of basketball, soccer,kickball, dodgeball, floor hockey, flag football and much more!

U Pick 2 Party (All Ages) Combo packages are available. Select twoactivities lasting 45 minutes each followed by 1 hour in the party room(2.5 hours total).

High Ropes Party (Ages 10+) Are your kids looking for a crazy rush?! Thisis the party for them. Challenge your children's physical and mental strengthas they go through the high ropes course. A minimum of 10 participantsrequired. 2.5-hour party.

Add a Bounce House! For only $50, you can add our 15 x 15-foot CastleMoon Bounce to your party!

2016 SUMMER SESSIONSPRE-K PROGRAMS (0 to 5)

PRESCHOOL/EARLY LEARNINGPreschool is an exciting time as children embark on new adventures in theworld of learning. At the Y, we regard each child as a unique individual whoneeds to be understood, guided, encouraged and appreciated. Our programsprovide activities where children learn, explore, build a positive self-image and develop strong social and emotional relationships. Y programsencourage children to explore their creativity through multi-sensoryexperiences and create a language-rich environment to promote and fostera love of reading. Children are exposed to art, music, math and science asthey develop expressive and receptive language and gross motor skills.

Half Day Preschool:This outstanding half day preschool program sets up your little learners forsuccess at an early age.

• Our 4-year-old AM preschool program runs Monday-Wednesday-Fridayfrom 9 a.m. to Noon, while our PM Preschool runs from12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

• Our 3-year-old preschool program runs Tuesday-Thursday from9 to 11:15 a.m.

Kindergarten Enrichment:We offer AM and PM Kindergarten Enrichment programs. Our programsare DCFS-licensed. Kindergarten Enrichment provides a broad range ofcurriculum and activities based on the YMCA's principles of caring, honesty,respect and responsibility while encouraging children to achieve a healthyspirit, mind and body. Our AM Enrichment Program runs from 8 to 11:30a.m. and our PM program runs from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children continuingtheir day with the After School Program will remain at the YMCA with careoffered until 6:30 p.m.

A $50 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of registrationfor members, and a $100 non-refundable deposit is required at thetime of registration for non-members. For more information,please contact Early Learning Director Jenna Stanonik at 847.410.5373or [email protected].

Kinder Klimb This is our rock climbing class for kids who are interestedin participating in a new adventure. Children will learn the basics of climbingand climbing safety. All participants will wear a harness and helmet.The class will focus on bouldering, which is climbing the wall horizontally,and be introduced to climbing the wall vertically as they progress throughthe program.

SWIM BASICS FOR SCHOOL AGEGroup lessons ages 5-12For kids in elementary and primary school, a foundation of water safetyand drowning prevention is made by teaching water adjustment and skillreadiness for children from 5 to 12 years of age.

Level 1: Water AcclimationThe water acclimation class introduces swimmers to the pool and helpsthem develop safe water habits. Children develop comfort with underwaterexploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body ofwater. This stage lays the foundation that allows for the child’s futureprogress in swimming.

Looking for a child care option when your kids are out of school due to aschool holiday, weather closing or winter or spring break? When school'sout, the Y is there to keep kids safe and engaged in fun, healthy activities.Our School Day Out options are designed to engage children in healthyphysical activity and foster positive social interactions. Our programs offerthe highest-quality instruction and supervision, provided by trained andqualified staff members.

Basketball Level 1 Want to be the next Derrick Rose? Then take thisintroductory class where boys and girls will learn the basics of basketball.Participants will learn how to dribble, pass and shoot in a fun atmosphere.The focus is on learning the game of basketball, meeting new friends andhaving fun!

Floor Hockey This class is for kids who enjoy the game of hockey, butmaybe aren't ready to get on the ice yet. Enjoy this floor hockey classwhere we teach many of the tactics of hockey, like stick handling, shooting,passing, goal tending, etc. Come play like the Hawks and get ready to playsome hockey!

Rock Climbing Level 1 Participants will combine the skills they may havelearned in Kinder Klimb, or if joining the class for the first time, kids willlearn some of the skills needed to become a more successful climber, as wellas a belayer. We focus on knot-tying, equipment use and setup, and climbingcommands. The group will learn how to safely climb up the high ropescourse in this class, as well as other fun activities such as Giant's Ladder,Pamper Pole and lead climbing.

Tennis Hit the forehand, backhand, drop shot and serve with the FogliaYMCA! This tennis class will stress development of skills, footworkand positive competition in a fun environment. We will focus on thefundamentals, singles, doubles and scoring, all while having fun.

Volleyball Come bump, set and spike with our Foglia YMCA volleyballclass! We teach the fundamentals and progress through different drills likeserving, setting, passing and hitting. We start with a lower net if needed tolearn more of the basics, and then adjust as needed throughout the session.This is a good start to continue on to our volleyball league that takes placein the summer and fall!

GRIT Strength/Plyo/Cardio Les Mills GRIT small group training utilizesa specialty trained coach who will take you through a proven 30-minute,high intensity interval training workout. There are 3 unique programs thatfocus on plyometrics, strength and cardio. Class times will vary. Check thespecialty schedule for details.

Karate Ages 7 and up are welcomed. Class consists of stretching, punchingskills, blocking, kicking, etc. Participants will learn self-defense, discipline,esteem and respect while having fun and getting a great workout.

Reformer I An ideal entry-level workout designed for all fitness levels andabilities, this workout combines beginning Pilates reformer exercises withstretches and postural patterns.

Reformer II Delivers the Pilates experience in a fun and balanced fitnessworkout that is perfect for intermediate to advanced participants. Aneffective fusion of beginning Reformer exercises with traditional weightexercises, teaching participants to work from their core and gain new bodyawareness and definition.

Cross Training This course was designed to improve muscular strength,cardio-respiratory endurance and flexibility. Class will include a warm-up, skill development, workout and cooldown with stretching. The class isdesigned for universal scalability, making it perfect for anyone regardlessof experience. Class will include but is not limited to HIIT, 300, Spartan,physioballs, medicine balls, Kettlebells, resistance bands and weights.

Kettlebell This class will teach you the foundation kettlebell lifts.Proficiency in these lifts will ensure your success in losing body fat,increasing your strength, correcting strength imbalances and overallgeneral fitness.

Lose Weight & Keep It Off This training program can provide you thepersonalized attention of a trainer at a lower cost in a supportive groupenvironment. All of the exercises in the program can be scaled in difficultyto fit your individual needs. The program will help you get in shape in afun and challenging atmosphere. Each participant will receive a fitnessassessment at the beginning and end of the program, nutritional guidanceand group workouts twice a week.

TRX® Boot Camp This class takes your workout to a whole new level,utilizing the TRX® suspension trainer along with additional tools (whichwill vary week to week) to build total-body strength and cardiovascularendurance while increasing flexibility and challenging your core, all at thesame time.

WATER FITNESSJoin us for a variety of different water fitness classes! All ages and abilitiesare welcome.

Aqua Cycling: Love your cycling class and love the water? Try our new aquanoodle cycling class, using a noodle to move your "cycle" around the pool.This great aerobic workout will also incorporate upper-body muscles as youdo jumps, races and flats.

Aqua Kick: This class offers a low-impact, highly intense workout in theshallow end of the lap pool. Emphasis is on cardiovascular and respiratoryhealth. What a great way to get your heart pumping and your body fit!

Arthritis*: This program of gentle water exercise is designed for all ageswith arthritis, fibromyalgia, and related conditions, as well as any individualwho wants to exercise without joint and muscle strain. The soothing warmthand buoyancy of exercising in the warm water pool will help decreasestiffness in joints, improve range of motion, and muscle endurance. Ourcurriculum is based on Arthritis Foundation guidelines.

Fluid Running* (paid class): A deep-water running class that provides allthe benefits of running on land and more, without any impact. The benefitsinclude burning up to 40% more calories than running on land. Buildmuscular strength and endurance by working legs, core and arms. Thereis zero impact, so runners can participate even with many injuries. Youdon't have to be a runner or an athlete to participate. Floatation belts areprovided.

H20 Flow Water Fitness: This is a great class for anyone seeking a low-impact opportunity to exercise in the middle of the day. This well-roundedclass will concentrate on flexibility, range of motion, strength and somecardio as well. The class is run simultaneously in the instructional pool andthe shallow end of the lap pool, your choice! All fitness levels welcome.

H2O Interval: A low-impact, high-energy challenge for participants of allages, skills and fitness levels. Jump in and make a splash with this dynamiccardiovascular workout that tones and tapers the entire body.

Silver Splash*: The Silver Splash class will activate your aqua urge forvariety! Silver Splash offers LOTS of fun and shallow water moves toimprove agility, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. No swimming abilityis required! A special Silver Sneaker kickboard is used to develop strength,balance and coordination.

The Splash: This high-energy, high-impact class has choreographedroutines set to music. If you enjoy a little singing and dancing, come join inthe fun! Using dumbbells and noodles for some deep-end work, you'll get agreat whole-body workout.
