Satan deceives Adam and EveThey fail God’s test and do not

trust Him. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the

pride of life cause their fall into sin and God pronounces the solution and some inevitable

consequences.

The Curse and The ProphecyGenesis 3:15

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. (KJV)

GOD WARNS SATAN• “This pronouncement was historic. God proclaimed the means by which

Satan would be punished and destroyed would be through the seed of the woman.

• A human woman would give birth to a male child who would one day destroy the Devil. This was the first prophecy of the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ. Satan was put on notice.

• From then on he set out to corrupt or destroy an God-fearing child as that could potentially be the prophesied Redeemer.

• The first Godly child born, Abel, was killed by his wicked brother Cain. Cain was banished and Adam and Eve bore another son Seth. At his birth Eve declared: “For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.” – (Genesis 4:25).”

Page 8: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

Her seedThe Messiah will come through

Seth’s line. Seth is Eve’s righteous, God given son.

Can Satan destroy the seed of Seth in order to destroy the coming of the Messiah?

the woman.    Your children and her children will be enemies. Her son will crush your head.    And you will crush his heel.”

This is a prediction of spiritual conflict between the righteous

and the unrighteous.

It is also a prediction of physical conflict between

Satan’s children on earth and God’s children.

GENESIS 6:1-2 Then the people began to multiply on the earth, and daughters were born to

them.  The sons of God saw the beautiful women and took any

they wanted as their wives.

Who Are “The Sons of God” ?

Job 1:6-7

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

Page 16: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

Translation of Job 1:6-7 from The Message

One day when the angels came to report to God, Satan, who was the Designated Accuser, came along with them. God singled out Satan and said, “What have you been up to?”Satan answered God, “Going here and there, checking things out on earth.”

Page 17: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

Job 2:1 ESV

Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the Lord.

Job 38:4-7 (The Message)

“Why do you confuse the issue?    Why do you talk without knowing what you’re talking about.

Pull yourself together, Job!    Up on your feet! Stand tall!I have some questions for you,    and I want some straight answers.Where were you

when I created the earth?    Tell me, since you know so much!Who decided on its size? Certainly you’ll know that!    Who came up with the blueprints

and measurements? How was its foundation poured,    and who set the

cornerstone,While the morning stars sang in chorus    and all the angels shouted praise? And who took charge of the ocean    when it gushed forth like a baby from the womb? That was me! I

wrapped it in soft clouds,    and tucked it in safely at night. Then I made a playpen for it,    a strong playpen so it couldn’t run loose,And said, ‘Stay here, this is your place.    Your wild tantrums are confined to this place.’

So fallen Angels impregnated human women and created half-breed sons that were part fallen angel

and part human.

What are these half breeds called?Genesis 6:4

The Nephilim were on the earth in those days- and also afterward-when

the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them.

They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

“Satan instituted his Nephilim plan into action.

By corrupting the seed of the woman, Satan could prevent the birth of the Messiah, who of course, had to be human and not part fallen angel. The Nephilim were an attempt to thwart God’s plan of salvation for humanity. At every step, the Nephilim, via their evil angelic parentage, sought to undermine or undo what God had set out for humanity to be reconciled to Him. In their dominance of the Earth, they reproduced so rapidly, God proclaimed that all flesh on the Earth had become corrupted. They dominated the Earth with war, bloodshed, and their pagan religion.”

Page 23: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

WHO WERE THE

NEPHILIM?

Page 24: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

Meaning of Nephilim• The word “Nephilim” means “Fallen Ones.”• Jewish scholars in 250 BC who translated the Old

Testament into Greek used the term “gigentes,” which means “Titans” to describe them.

• This implies they were part god/higher being and part human- half-breeds like the Titans in Greek mythology. The scholars picked a term that the Greeks would readily understand.

Page 25: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

WERE ALL OF THE NEPHILIM GIANTS?

• No. They were a new race of beings , a race of fallen ones, a race of “gods” and men.

• They had extra capacities, both mentally and physically, but may not have been larger than a normal human being.

• “Giborim” means mighty men of renown.

THE JEWISH HISTORIAN JOSEPHUS

Page 28: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

Writings of Josephus"For many angels of God accompanied with women, and begat sons that proved unjust, and despisers of all that was good, on account of the confidence they had in their own strength; for the tradition is, that these men did what resembled the acts of those whom the Grecians call giants.""These kings had laid waste all Syria, and overthrown the offspring of the giants. And when they were come over against Sodom. . .""They told them also, that they found at Hebron the posterity of the giants. Accordingly these spies, who had seen the land of Canaan, when they perceived that all these difficulties were greater there than they had met with since they came out of Egypt, they were aftrighted at them themselves, and endeavored to affright the multitude also."

Page 29: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

“For which reason they removed their camp to Hebron; and when they had taken it, they slew all the inhabitants. There were till then left the race of giants, who had bodies so large, and countenances so entirely different from other men, that they were surprising to the sight, and terrible to the hearing. The bones of these men are still shown to this very day, unlike to any credible relations of other men. Now they gave this city to the Levites as an extraordinary reward. . ”A little afterward the king made war against the Philistines; and when he had joined battle with them, and put them to flight, he was left alone, as he was in pursuit of them; and when he was quite tired down, he was seen by one of the enemy, his name was Achmon, the son of Araph, he was one of the sons of the giants. He had a spear, the handle of which weighed three hundred shekels, and a breastplate of chain-work, and a sword. He turned back, and ran violently to slay [David] their enemy's king, for he was quite tired out with labor; but Abishai, Joab's brother, appeared on the sudden, and protected the king with his shield, as he lay down, and slew the enemy. Now the multitude were very uneasy at these dangers of the king, and that he was very near to be slain; and the rulers made him swear that he would no more go out with them to battle, lest he should come to some great misfortune by his courage and boldness, and thereby deprive the people of the benefits they now enjoyed by his means, and of those that they might hereafter enjoy by his living a long time among them. "

Page 30: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

"When the king heard that the Philistines were gathered together at the city Gazara, he sent an army against them, when Sibbechai the Hittite, one of David's most courageous men, behaved himself so as to deserve great commendation, for he slew many of those thatbragged they were the posterity of the giants, and vaunted themselves highly on that account, and thereby was the occasion of victory to the Hebrews.""They had a man who was six cubits tall, and had on each of his feet and hands one more toe and finger than men naturally have. Now the person who was sent against them by David out of his army was Jonathan, the son of Shimea, who fought this man in a single combat, and slew him; and as he was the person who gave the turn to the battle, he gained the greatest reputation for courage therein. This man also vaunted himself to be of the sons of the giants. But after this fight the Philistines made war no more against the Israelites."

The Book of EnochBook 1

"And they became pregnant, and they bare great

giants, whose height was three hundred ells:[68] Who consumed all the acquisitions of men. And

when men could no longer sustain them, the

giants turned against them and devoured

mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and

beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one

another's flesh, and drink the blood."

Page 32: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

The Book of Enoch"And Azâzêl taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and

breastplates, and made known to them the metals of the earth and the

art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of

antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly

stones, and all colouring tinctures. And there arose much godlessness,

and they committed fornication, and they were led astray, and became

corrupt in all their ways. Semjâzâ taught enchantments, and root-

cuttings, Armârôs the resolving of enchantments, Barâqîjâl, taught

astrology, Kôkabêl the constellations, Ezêqêêl the knowledge of the

clouds, Araqiêl the signs of the earth, Shamsiêl the signs of the sun, and

Sariêl the course of the moon."

The Book of Enoch

"Then said the Most High, the Holy and

Great One spoke, and sent Uriel to the

son of Lamech, and said to him: Go to

Noah and tell him in my name "Hide thyself!" and reveal to him the end that is approaching: that the whole earth will be destroyed, and a deluge is about to come upon the whole earth, and will destroy all that is on it. And now instruct him that he may escape and his seed may be preserved for all the generations of the world.

"

Page 34: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

The Book of Enoch"the Lord said to Raphael: 'Bind Azâzêl hand and foot, and cast him into

the darkness: and make an opening in the desert, which is in Dûdâêl

(God's Kettle/Crucible/Cauldron), and cast him therein. And place upon him

rough and jagged rocks, and cover him with darkness, and let him abide

there for ever, and cover his face that he may not see light. And on the day

of the great judgment he shall be cast into the fire. And heal the earth

which the angels have corrupted, and proclaim the healing of the earth,

that they may heal the plague, and that all the children of men may not

perish through all the secret things that the Watchers have disclosed and

have taught their sons. And the whole earth has been corrupted through

the works that were taught by Azâzêl: to him ascribe all sin."

Page 35: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

DOES THE NEW TESTAMENT

CONFIRM THIS?

Yes. This is referred to in:

2 Peter 2:4-10 and Jude 5-7

Page 36: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

God did not spare angels when they sinned. Instead, he sent them to hell. He put them in dark prisons. He will keep them there until he judges them. God did not spare the world’s ungodly people long ago. He brought the flood on them. But Noah preached about the right way to live. God kept him safe. He also saved seven others. God judged the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. He burned them to ashes. He made them an example of what is going to happen to ungodly people.God saved Lot. He was a man who did what was right. He was shocked by the dirty, sinful lives of people who didn’t obey God’s laws. That good man lived among them day after day. He saw and heard the evil things they were doing. They were breaking God’s laws. And his godly spirit was deeply troubled. So the Lord knows how to keep godly people safe in times of testing. He also knows how to keep ungodly people under guard until the day they will be judged. In the meantime, he continues to punish them.  Most of all, this is true of people who follow the evil longings of their sinful natures. They hate to be under authority. Those false prophets are bold and proud. They aren’t afraid to speak evil things against

heavenly beings. 2 Peter 2:4-10

Page 37: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

Jude 5-7Now I desire to put you in remembrance, though ye know all things once for all, that the Lord, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

And angels that kept not their own principality, but left their proper habitation, he hath kept in everlasting bonds under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them, having in like manner with these given themselves over to fornication and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

Page 38: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

The angels who participated in this are chained in a place

called Tartarus (Hell) and are awaiting final judgment by

Christ.

They are unable to roam the earth and repeat this

abomination.

CORRUPTING THE IMAGEThe Bible calls them “men of renown.” The Hebrew word here, shem, refers to being famous and legendary. It is as if the Bible is indicating that when the reader hears of legends of “demigods”, titans or legendary heroes who were part god, that this is who those “myths” were referring to. These were ‘men’ of superhuman ability and strength. In addition to causing violence and sin in the world, the Nephilim were also corrupting the human bloodline.

The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and

he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally

evil.  So the Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart. And the Lord

said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every

living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds

of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.”

BUT AFTER THE FLOOD

“ There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that…” — Genesis 6:4

Page 54: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

HOW?“And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.  And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood. –Genesis 7:6-7.

HAM, THE FATHER OF CANAAN

“And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is

the father of Canaan.” – Genesis 9:18.

Page 58: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

THE CURSE OF CANAANAnd Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness. And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. — Genesis 9:20-26.

Page 59: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

THE PATTERN• Shem is the father of the Israelites through

whom the Messiah comes.• Canaan and his brothers are the fathers of

the Nephilim, who live in the land of Canaan and who seek to destroy the Israelites and the coming of the Messiah. THE BATTLE CONTINUES.

Page 60: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

WHY DOES GOD ALLOW THIS? God permitted the Nephilim gene to make it onto the ark because God allows the consequences of human sin. If humans sin, they will be judged. If they do not follow God’s

ways, they invite sin and its inevitable destructive CONSEQUENCES.  Ham was not a follower of God and he was judged for his sinful rebellion thru his wife.  The Nephilim nations after the flood are at various times used by God as judgment against the Israelites for their disobedience.

Page 61: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

REASONS for Nephilim after the Flood

• The earth continues to experience the consequences of the Fall.

• The Nephilim are used as means of judgment for disobedience by Israel.

• The Nephilim cause the Israelites to rely upon God for deliverance from evil. This cements relationship between God and His people.

• Jesus fights Satan and defeats evil as predicted in Genesis 3:15. This fulfills God’s prophecy.

Page 62: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

Ham’s Descendants(GENESIS 10:6)

• CUSH• MIZRAIM• PUT• CANAAN

Page 63: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

GENESIS 10:6-12Now Cush became the father of Nimrod; he became a mighty one on the earth. He was a mighty hunter

before the Lord; therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the Lord.”

The beginning of his kingdom was Babel and Erech and Accad and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

From that land he went forth into Assyria, and built Nineveh and Rehoboth-Ir and Calah, and Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city.

Page 64: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

NIMROD AND THE TOWER OF BABEL

Page 65: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

GOD ONCE AGAIN JUDGES EVIL

• Now the whole earth had one language and the same words.  And as they migrated from the east, they came upon a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar.  Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.” Genesis 11:1-4

Page 66: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

• The Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which mortals had built. And the Lord said, “Look, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do; nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.  Come, let us go down, and confuse their language there, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.” So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. Therefore it was called Babel, because there the Lord confused[a] the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth. Gen. 11

ABRAHAM CALLED TO TAKE THE CANAANITES’ LAND•  Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your

father’s house to the land that I will show you.  I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

•  So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. 5 Abram took his wife Sarai and his brother’s son Lot, and all the possessions that they had gathered, and the persons whom they had acquired in Haran; and they set forth to go to the land of Canaan. When they had come to the land of Canaan, Abram passed

through the land to the place at Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. Then the Lord appeared to Abram,

and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. Genesis 12:1-7

Page 76: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

Jesus Fights the NephilimThen we turned north and took the road to Bashan. Og king of Bashan, he and all his people, came out to meet us in battle at Edrei.

God said to me, “Don’t be afraid of him; I’m turning him over to you, along

with his whole army and his land. Treat him the way you treated Sihon king of the Amorites who ruled from Heshbon.”

So God, our God, also handed Og king of Bashan over to us—Og and all his people—and we utterly crushed them. Again, no survivors. At the same time we took all his cities. There wasn’t one of the sixty cities that we didn’t take—the whole region of Argob, Og’s kingdom in Bashan. All these cities were fortress cities with high walls and barred gates. There were also numerous unwalled villages. We totally destroyed them—a holy destruction. It was the same treatment we gave to Sihon king of Heshbon, a holy destruction of every city, man, woman, and child. But all the livestock and plunder from the cities we took for ourselves. Deuteronomy 3:1-7

Page 77: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

Help Comes from the Lord

“When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are about to enter and occupy, he will clear away many nations ahead of you: the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. These seven nations are greater and more numerous than you. When the Lord your God hands these nations over to you and you conquer them, you must completely destroy them. Make no treaties with them and show them no mercy.  You must not intermarry with them. Do not let your daughters and sons marry their sons and daughters, Deuteronomy 7:1-3

Giant skeletons

Page 79: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

SO WHY HAVEN’T OUR PASTORS TAUGHT THIS?

• St. Augustine in the 5th century wrote an influential commentary declaring that the “sons of God” were “sons of Seth.”

• He also claimed that the daughters of men come from the line of Cain, but there is no Scriptural basis for this.

Page 80: Nephilim Study- "As it was in the days of Noah..."

Further misinformation• John Calvin in the 17th century relied on

St. Augustine’s writings and claimed that angels mating with humans was absurd.

(Note: Sons of God could not be sons of Seth because Seth was a son of Adam, not God. See Genesis 5)

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,    always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come    and the mountains crumble into the sea.

Let the oceans roar and foam.    Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! Interlude

A river brings joy to the city of our God,    the sacred home of the Most High.God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed.    From the very break of day, God will protect it.

The nations are in chaos,    and their kingdoms crumble!God’s voice thunders,    and the earth melts! The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;    the God of Israel is our fortress.

Come, see the glorious works of the Lord:    See how he brings destruction upon the world. He causes wars to end throughout the earth.    He breaks the bow and snaps the spear;    he burns the shields with fire.

“Be still, and know that I am God!    I will be honored by every nation.    I will be honored throughout the world.”The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;    the God of Israel is our fortress.
