Why Did God Bring About the Great Flood?

GOD WARNS SATAN• “This pronouncement was historic. God proclaimed the means by which

Satan would be punished and destroyed would be through the seed of the woman.

• A human woman would give birth to a male child who would one day destroy the Devil. This was the first prophecy of the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ. Satan was put on notice.

• From then on he set out to corrupt or destroy an God-fearing child as that could potentially be the prophesied Redeemer.

• The first Godly child born, Abel, was killed by his wicked brother Cain. Cain was banished and Adam and Eve bore another son Seth. At his birth Eve declared: “For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.” – (Genesis 4:25).”

This is a prediction of spiritual conflict between the righteous

and the unrighteous.

It is also a prediction of physical conflict between

Satan’s children on earth and God’s children.

them.  The sons of God saw the beautiful women and took any

they wanted as their wives.

So fallen Angels impregnated human women and created half-breed sons that were part fallen angel

and part human.

NEPHILIM?

Meaning of Nephilim• The word “Nephilim” means “Fallen Ones.”• Jewish scholars in 250 BC who translated the Old

Testament into Greek used the term “gigentes,” which means “Titans” to describe them.

• This implies they were part god/higher being and part human- half-breeds like the Titans in Greek mythology. The scholars picked a term that the Greeks would readily understand.

WERE ALL OF THE NEPHILIM GIANTS?

• No. They were a new race of beings , a race of fallen ones, a race of “gods” and men.

• They had extra capacities, both mentally and physically, but may not have been larger than a normal human being.

• “Giborim” means mighty men of renown.

DOES THE NEW TESTAMENT

CONFIRM THIS?

Yes. This is referred to in:

2 Peter 2:4-10 and Jude 5-7

God did not spare angels when they sinned. Instead, he sent them to hell. He put them in dark prisons. He will keep them there until he judges them. God did not spare the world’s ungodly people long ago. He brought the flood on them. But Noah preached about the right way to live. God kept him safe. He also saved seven others. God judged the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. He burned them to ashes. He made them an example of what is going to happen to ungodly people.God saved Lot. He was a man who did what was right. He was shocked by the dirty, sinful lives of people who didn’t obey God’s laws. That good man lived among them day after day. He saw and heard the evil things they were doing. They were breaking God’s laws. And his godly spirit was deeply troubled.So the Lord knows how to keep godly people safe in times of testing. He also knows how to keep ungodly people under guard until the day they will be judged. In the meantime, he continues to punish them.  Most of all, this is true of people who follow the evil longings of their sinful natures. They hate to be under authority.Those false prophets are bold and proud. They aren’t afraid to speak evil things against

heavenly beings. 2 Peter 2:4-10

Jude 5-7Now I desire to put you in remembrance, though ye know all things once for all, that the Lord, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

And angels that kept not their own principality, but left their proper habitation, he hath kept in everlasting bonds under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them, having in like manner with these given themselves over to fornication and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

The angels who participated in this are chained in a place

called Tartarus (Hell) and are awaiting final judgment by

Christ.

They are unable to roam the earth and repeat this

abomination.

CORRUPTING THE IMAGEThe Bible calls them “men of renown.” The Hebrew word here, shem, refers to being famous and legendary. It is as if the Bible is indicating that when the reader hears of legends of “demigods”, titans or legendary heroes who were part god, that this is who those “myths” were referring to. These were ‘men’ of superhuman ability and strength. In addition to causing violence and sin in the world, the Nephilim were also corrupting the human bloodline.

evil.  So the Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart. And the Lord

said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every

living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds

of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.”

 But Noah found favor with the Lord.

THE CURSE OF CANAANAnd Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness. And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. THE PATTERN• Shem is the father of the Israelites through

whom the Messiah comes.• Canaan and his brothers are the fathers of

the Nephilim, who live in the land of Canaan and who seek to destroy the Israelites and the coming of the Messiah. THE BATTLE CONTINUES.

WHY DOES GOD ALLOW THIS? God permitted the Nephilim gene to make it onto the ark because God allows the consequences of human sin. If humans sin, they will be judged. If they do not follow God’s

ways, they invite sin and its inevitable destructive CONSEQUENCES.  Ham was not a follower of God and he was judged for his sinful rebellion thru his wife.  The Nephilim nations after the flood are at various times used by God as judgment against the Israelites for their disobedience.

REASONS for Nephilim after the Flood

• The earth continues to experience the consequences of the Fall.

• The Nephilim are used as means of judgment for disobedience by Israel.

• The Nephilim cause the Israelites to rely upon God for deliverance from evil. This cements relationship between God and His people.

• Jesus fights Satan and defeats evil as predicted in Genesis 3:15. This fulfills God’s prophecy.

with his whole army and his land. Treat him the way you treated Sihon king of the Amorites who ruled from Heshbon.”

 So God, our God, also handed Og king of Bashan over to us—Og and all his people—and we utterly crushed them. Again, no survivors. At the same time we took all his cities. There wasn’t one of the sixty cities that we didn’t take—the whole region of Argob, Og’s kingdom in Bashan. All these cities were fortress cities with high walls and barred gates. There were also numerous unwalled villages. We totally destroyed them—a holy destruction. It was the same treatment we gave to Sihon king of Heshbon, a holy destruction of every city, man, woman, and child. But all the livestock and plunder from the cities we took for ourselves. Deuteronomy 3:1-7

“When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are about to enter and occupy, he will clear away many nations ahead of you: the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. These seven nations are greater and more numerous than you. When the Lord your God hands these nations over to you and you conquer them, you must completely destroy them. Make no treaties with them and show them no mercy.  You must not intermarry with them. Do not let your daughters and sons marry their sons and daughters, Deuteronomy 7:1-3

SO WHY HAVEN’T OUR PASTORS TAUGHT THIS?

• St. Augustine in the 5th century wrote an influential commentary declaring that the “sons of God” were “sons of Seth.”

• He also claimed that the daughters of men come from the line of Cain, but there is no Scriptural basis for this.

Further misinformation• John Calvin in the 17th century relied on

St. Augustine’s writings and claimed that angels mating with humans was absurd.

(Note: Sons of God could not be sons of Seth because Seth was a son of Adam, not God. See Genesis 5)

judgment of God on the earth.

Come, see the glorious works of the Lord:    See how he brings destruction upon the world.He causes wars to end throughout the earth.    He breaks the bow and snaps the spear;    he burns the shields with fire.

“Be still, and know that I am God!    I will be honored by every nation.    I will be honored throughout the world.”The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;    the God of Israel is our fortress.
