Pupil drownsWhat was supposed to be a fun event for Grade 11 pupils of Mamphodo Secondary School ended in tragedy on Monday afternoon, when one of the pupils drowned.

The pupils from Gumela village outside Mutale fi n-ished their fi nal exam paper earlier that day and went to relax and celebrate the end of the exams at the ancestral stream weir. The weir, called Maneledzi, is situated at Tshikotoni-Manzhenge near Gumela.

At the time of going to press, the circumstances around the death of the 20-year-old Nkhumeleni Milandu (20) were still sketchy and the police are investigating the event. The pupils arrived at about 16:00 at the weir and were in a relaxed mood, started to braai and dance. Sev-eral of them went into the water and, according to the pupils, Nkhumeleni was in the company of his girlfriend, Granny Thavhana.

It is alleged that Nkhumeleni decided to prove to her that he was the best swimmer. “We tried to stop him, but he insisted that he want to swim again,” said anoth-er pupil, who doesn’t want to be named. He suddenly vanished into the water and all attempts to rescue him were in vain. His body was recovered from the stream on Tuesday afternoon.

Nkhumeleni was earlier elected as the chairperson of his class’s Learning Representative Council (LRC) and was described as a happy person. He resided in Shakadza village outside Gumela but was staying with a relative in Gumela village during his school days.

The Maneledzi weir is regarded as an ancestral place by the communities around, because four villagers mys-teriously drowned there about fi ve years ago.

The principal, Mr Hosea Matodzi, said that the incident had left the school in a state of shock as Nkhumeleni was last seen alive on Monday when he brought some of his text books to school after they had completed their fi nal

examination. The police spokesperson in Mutale, W/O Fhulufhelo Netshitongwe, confi rmed the incident and said they had opened an inquest docket.

Nkhumeleni’s mother, Ms Tshifhiwa Randima, is still in shock and mourning after the incident, and said they were expecting good things from him as he had shown the family that he took his education seriously. She also said the family was devastated about the incident, and no one was working. They depend on odd jobs and anyone willing to help the family to bury Nkhumeleni can phone her at 072 637 4206.

Mr Michael Mathebe was elected chairperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Limpopo during the party's first provincial conference a fortnight ago.

The event took place at the Multipurpose Centre in Mokgopane.

The deputy chairperson is Rendani Munyai, Jossie Buthane is the secretary, George Raphela is the deputy-secretary and Mapule Ledwaba is the sub-region's treasurer. Mathebe and Buthane retained their positions.

The five additional members on the executive committee are Thilivhali Mulaudz, Dr Lilian Managa, Anthony Matumba, Thabelo Mukwevho and Joyce Masithi.

Mathibe to lead EFF

The Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi.

The Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, has said that a new Siloam Hospital will be con-structed on an estimated cost of R750 million.

During a recent visit to King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana at Dzanani, Motswoaledi stated that the new hospital will include, among the normal hospital features, a drug-resistant outpatients ward, as well as a mortuary. During the visit, Motswoale-di expressed shock at the dilapidated state of the present hospital.

He added that the new hospital will provide a conducive working environment for nurses and doctors to do their jobs efficiently and to provide quality health care to the patients. The construction of the building will also provide jobs for local peo-ple and stimulate the economy, he said.

“The new hospital will have a new management, enough beds and doctors,” Motsoaledi said and mentioned that it would not be fair just to renovate the hospital. It will be better to build a new one and demolish the old building, he added.

He also mentioned that the hospital is too small to provide sufficient service to the community. When it was initially built, it was meant solely for the small community around Nzhelele, but nowadays

it caters for large volumes of patients.King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana expressed

his joy with Motsoaledi’s announcement. “We are overjoyed about the fact that our problem of travelling long distances to access service at other hospitals will be a thing of the past.”

JPS to entertain children on Aids Day

The police are investigating an incident where a five-year-old boy from Dzanani village in Nzhelele died inside the vehicle of a school teacher. The tragic incident apparently happened after the child, who used to go to school with the teacher, was left inside the car on Monday morning. The child's death may have been caused by the excessive heat inside the locked vehicle.

The 58-year-old Vhutuwan-gadzebu Primary School teacher allegedly forgot that there was

a child inside the vehicle. She apparently went to teach and only returned to the vehicle later that day.

According to the police report, the teacher went home with the deceased child still inside her vehicle. She apparently only re-alised that the boy was still there when she went to park her car in the garage and collect some of her belongings which were left inside the vehicle. The shocked and traumatized teacher imme-diately alerted the police.

Edward Tharaga, said parents should watch out for incidents similar to this one, especially during the festive season.

He added that during the fes-tive season elders often travel with children and choose to leave them inside a locked vehicle when they go shopping. “When they go to the shops, they must leave with their children and not leave them behind inside locked vehicles. Even old unused fridges should be kept away from chil-dren to avoid such incidents,” he added.

Jesus the Poor in Spirit (JPS) Ministries International at Musina will host about 350 children on Monday (1 Decem-ber) as part of International World Aids Day.

The children are from the Mu-sina Children’s Resource Centre.

Bishop Pesulo, presiding bish-op at JPS, said that the ministry decided to host these children as part of its social and spiritual responsibility towards the com-munity. “We felt that we needed to acknowledge these days with these children as most of them are HIV/Aids orphans. They face a

bleak Christmas, without parents to provide them with the basic necessities,” said Pesulo.

Ms Regina Marole, who is head of MegaCare at JPS and also coordinator of the World Aids Day event, indicated that they planned to have lunch with the children and then give them little Christmas gifts as well. She said the idea behind this was to make the poor children feel loved and cared about.

Pesulo said that this will be a historic occasion as JPS Minis-tries would be commemorating World Aids Day for the first time.

“To us, children are the future and it is very important that we choose to be with children on this day.

We are sure that this engage-ment with the children will definitely shape the future of a number of these children and prepare them to be better citi-zens in future. We have a moral responsibility to sow the seed of love within the community of Musina and planting that seed with orphans and vulnerable chil-dren couldn’t be a better place to start,” he concluded.

The Limpopo provincial gov-ernment has joined the world in commemorating this year’s International AIDS Day.

With the aim of raising aware-ness about the global HIV/Aids epidemic, the provincial govern-ment hopes to inform all commu-nities and support people who are living with the disease within the province.

Various awareness campaigns are being held throughout the province prior to the main pro-vincial event. The main event will be held on 11 December.

Mr Baloyi Gavaza from the Department of Health says all the districts are busy with their campaigns as a buildup towards

World Aids Day. “HIV coun-selling, testing, TB screening, information on medical male circumcision and all other health screenings are being provided during these campaigns,” he said. “We are starting with door-to-door campaigns, which will be running from 9 to 11 December at the Malamulele informal settle-ments. HIV and TB services will be provided during those three days at both Malamulele and Matatshe Correctional Centre,” said Gavaza.

The build-up activities within all the provincial districts start-ed as far back as 18 October in Hoedspruit at the Maruleng mu-nicipality in the Mopane district.

The Vhembe District Munic-ipality (VDM) hosted an aware-ness campaign on Wednesday at Ka-Majozi. The VDM media liaison officer, Mr Mos Shivam-bu, said the event was meant to educate communities.

This year’s international theme is: I can’t change my HIV status, but you can change your attitude - Zero Stigma, Zero Discrimi-nation.

Gavaza added that they were encouraging the communities to take up HIV and TB services by either presenting themselves for testing during the door-to-door campaigns or visiting the nearest clinic for testing and TB screening.

Jail sentence for Mugwena’s hitmenIn one of the most strange acts to have happened in a local court, the accused in a conspiracy-to-murder case and the complainant hugged immediately after sentencing. It happened in the Malamulele regional court on Monday.

Vincent Phakula (30) and Moses Ntlenana (29), both from Namakgale, were standing trial for conspiracy to murder a well-known businessman, Mr Goddard Mugwena. They were both found guilty and sentenced to six years' imprisonment, four of which were suspended for five years.

Ntlenana was also convict-

ed of pointing an object that looked like a firearm, which turned out to be a toy gun. He was sentenced to three years on that count, which was wholly suspended for five years.

Immediately after Magis-trate J Coetzee had passed the sentence and left, a movie-like drama unfolded as the con-victs, Phakula and Ntlenana, reached for Mugwena and they embraced each other. "We are asking for forgivenes for what we did to him, and we are happy he has accepted our remorse. We know we were wrong and now it is time to change," said Phakula.

The trial and subsequent sentencing relates to an incident that happened in 2009 at one of Mugwena's houses in Thohoy-andou when the two were hired to kill him.

In sentencing, Magistrate Coetzee described the testimony of witnesses brought by the state as being excellent and named Mugwena as a star witness. He also commended the two accused for being remorseful, as they did not dispute the case as advanced by the state.

He said his decision was also influenced by the fact that Mugwena did not seek revenge and was sympathetic to them.

Angry Benny’s Care stops beauty contestAcrimony bordering on the plot of a hot “soap-ie” emerged between Benny’s Care Sports Acad-emy and beauty contest organiser Ms Mashudu Mulaudzi, after the school felt that Mulaudzi was misusing their name for her personal gain.

Mulaudzi is the organiser of the Miss Benny’s Care 2014 pageant. She had approached the acad-emy with an idea and proposal for organising and hosting the contest. The academy gave her per-mission and the venue for the contest’s activities.

“We even opened an account for her to save all the monies and she had absolute access to that account,” said Benny’s Care Sports Academy’s managing director, Mr David Benny Mufamadi.

activities, she had not deposited even a cent into the account. There are people she hired to judge the contest and she has not paid them up to so far. Remember that the contest carries our academy’s name. We are the ones to take the rap. We cannot allow this kind of thing to continue to happen.”

Benny’s Care Sports Academy said that they were also stopping the contest, which was scheduled for 29 November at Muduluni Community Hall. “Mashudu had a very bright idea which we also supported as it involved the promotion of the youth, but now things turned out otherwise,” said Mufamadi.

Mulaudzi denied ever using the academy for her personal benefi t and said that she had re-quested meetings with the academy. “Each time I requested a meeting with them to explain my challenges, they told me that they were busy,” she stated. “I wanted to explain my diffi culties as an organiser, so that they could hear from me that I hadn’t generated any funds.”

Mulaudzi then raised her voice and shouted that the newspaper must not continue with the story. “I am going to meet my lawyer; I will sue Mufamadi if you run the story,” she fumed. However, the journalist advised her to leave the offi ce because she was disrupting the newsroom’s work with her shouting.

Glamour Modelling Agency’s director Mr Lolo Lulama said that his agency had at least fi ve young women who had qualifi ed to partic-ipate in the Miss Benny’s Care 2014 pageant.

“We are feeling very sad because we had already spent a lot of money preparing for 29 November’s event,” he said. “No words can explain our disappointment.”

Synagogue Church victim Ms Mpho Mbedzi.

Mpho Mbedzi buried at MashambaHundreds of people gathered at Mashamba village on Saturday to pay their last respects to Ms Mpho Mbedzi (31), a former Biotechnolo-gist at Baragwanath Hospital. She died about two months ago, when a guest house of the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Nigeria collapsed.

The tragedy claimed the lives of 116 people, including 85 from South Africa. The remains of 74 victims were brought back to South Africa a fortnight ago and the eight Vhembe-based victims were buried at different places on Saturday. Mbedzi was buried at the Mashamba graveyard.

Although the atmosphere was subdued, the ceremony resembled a celebration of a life well lived and everybody stated that Mbedzi had fully dedicated her life to the Lord.

During the funeral ceremony, her brother, Mr Andrew Mbedzi, described his sister as a pioneer, a born leader and woman of a vision. He said the whole community gathered with heavy hearts, because Mpho was very infl uential in the area.

He thanked the South African government, the Synagogue Church of All Nation and the Makhado municipality for their contributions during the diffi -cult time. He also stated that although his sister had died unexpectedly, the members of the congrega-tion consoled themselves, because they knew that his sister had worked tirelessly for the Lord until her last day. “We know she is enjoying her new

life in the hands of the Almighty. We would also like to thank God for giving us this wonderful gift.”

The mayor of the Makhado municipality, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi, said he was saddened by the accident. “Her passing will undoubtedly leave a void too diffi cult to fi ll,” he said.

This was evident during the funeral of two members of the Tshivhase family of Shayandima, who died almost two months ago in a tragedy at TB Joshua's Synagogue Church of All Nations.

Ms Suzan Ramatsea ( 38) and Mr George Tshivhase (41) were among the 13 dead from the Limpopo province who were buried in different parts of the province at the weekend. Their bodies were handed over to their families in Polokwane last Monday.

The couple, who resided and worked in Polok-wane, were buried in one grave after a service that took place at the packed Full Gospel Church in Shayandima. The funeral was attended by, among others, Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela, Executive Mayor Tshitereke Matibe, COGHSTA MEC Ma-

koma Makhurupetja, senior members of the Tshivhase Royal family and many community members.

The service was con-ducted by Pastor Jannie Calitz of the Full Gospel Church in Polokwane.

All the speakers at the service commended the couple for having died while in search of more knowledge about God. On behalf of TB Joshua, Pastor Lamula Mabun-da said the church was saddened by the inci-dent and shared the pain the family was going through, but found so-

lace in the fact that the two were not on holiday, but were praying with others. "They were at the right place and today they are saints and with God, feeling pain no more," said Mabunda.

Chief Muthungaapfe Tshivhase said the family was deeply saddened by the incident. "We are happy that the government made it possible for us to get back the bodies of our loved ones. These were the longest, most painful and agonizing two months of our lives. We have learnt a lesson that life is too short and that we should make the most of it while we are still alive," he said. “Makhado Council will fi ght and defend our people”“We are going to stand fi rm as Makha-do Council and fi ght and defend our people!”

These were the “war” cries of Makhado Municipal Mayor David Mutavhatsindi when he addressed fellow councillors and members of the media during a special Council meeting held on 13 November. Only two topics were on the agenda: The order of the Pretoria High Court regarding the town’s name of Louis Trichardt and the changing of several of the town’s street names.

It has been more than three weeks since the court ruled that the former Minister of Arts and Culture Mr Paul Mashatile’s de-cision to have the name of Louis Trichardt changed to Makhado, be set aside.

“Madam Speaker, we are not happy in terms of what happened on the 30th of October. The setting aside of the name Makhado … we’re not happy … because people had spoken in terms of that name, and records are there… they are there even as I speak today,” said Mutavhatsindi.

In addition, the mayor announced that a budget was made available to the council because they “want the street names of this town to be changed. That resolution is there. The mayor is empowered in terms of that resolution … and that process is going to start as soon as I fi nished the pronouncement,” said Mutavhatsindi.

The mayor further affi rmed his avail-ability for those people “who enjoy going for protest marches and marching on the streets demanding services.”

“I want to make it very clear here, that those who will organize such marches, some of us who are passionate about the history and what happened … don’t be surprised … because at the starting point of those marches we will be there ourselves. I will only come and climb the podium only to receive the memorandum … but where the march will start, I’ll be there in support of our history.”

Preceding his declaration, the mayor also made several remarks many after-wards construed as being of a racial nature towards not only residents who oppose the name change, but also towards the white residents of Louis Trichardt.

“There is a consistent effort … to un-dermine the democracy we have earned through the blood of other people and our efforts to transform Makhado Municipal-ity and this town is being undermined,” said Mutavhatsindi. He referred to an incident earlier this year where he per-sonally removed a sign board that “was erected by a white male that referred to certain people as baboons.” Other ex-amples he highlighted included people who objected to the development of the bird park in the green belt area, as well as the current controversy surrounding some local businesses that allegedly have segregated toilets.

“…that is a very clear indication that we still have people in this town, in our municipality, who are not ready to accept change, who are all out to make sure that they stand against transformation,” said Mutavhatsindi.

“They will always remind us of the birds which come as far as Europe to say you go and touch that piece of land those birds will be disturbed. Like this peo-ple it is like when … Louis Trichardt arrived here in 1836 … there were no birds and birds were there, it is just that those birds maybe were African birds … if these birds which has fl own from Europe can’t withstand the pressure of this development, we are very sure that they still have wings; they will rather fl y back to Europe and we develop our town [sic].”

Refering to the history of the r e g i o n , M u -tavhatsindi pro-fessed to fight just as hard as King Makhado, the Lion of the North, for his people. “Makha-do fought against the Voortrekker, and not even

once did they defeat him – Not even once! … in 1867 when commander general Paul Kruger came with the republican army to attack him, he couldn’t make it. Makhado, the warrior, defeated him. They went to Oude Dorp [Schoemansdal] and Makhado the King, in defence of his people and the land, he reduced that place to ashes.” In his closing remarks, Mayor Mutavhatsindi said: “We’re going to fi ght this battle, and we’re going to be serious, we can’t allow to be undermined.” After the executive meeting had accepted the resolution, the mayor indicated to members of the press that Council would also be appointing an independent attorney to review the High Court’s decision. From then onwards they will decide whether it will be necessary to appeal the decision or to restart the renam-ing process. The mayor further confi rmed, by means of municipal spokesperson Mr

Mureri gives Bibles to local churches “Dealing with little ones requires extra care”Well-known Limpopo busi-nessman David Mureri of Reri’s Insurance never ceases to come up with ideas to em-power his community.

He is from a religious family and surprised many when he took 60 pastors and their wives on an all-expenses-paid holiday to Cape Town and Durban in 2008. In 2010 and 2011, he do-nated nearly half a million rand in cash for the development of education in Vhembe.

He has also set aside a R230 000 contribution towards the Vhembe Mayoral Busary Fund, a three-year agreement, that will start next year.

He has also donated musical instruments to several churches in Vhembe.

As if that was not enough, Mureri has recently launched the Free Bible Distribution Channel and handed more than 1000 Bibles to different church-es. “God has blessed us and we regard ourselves as vehicles to pass on those blessings to others. We feel that the church is one of the areas we should focus on. We would like to see the gospel spreading to all parts of the world,” he added.

He also stated that there were still people in the country who could not afford Bibles “and through this ministry, we hope to reach out to many in that po-sition. This will be an ongoing process, even when we have passed on,” he said.

Mureri further said there

would be no excuse for people not to see heaven as the word would have been preached all over. “Since we started this project earlier this year, we have received positive feedback from the different churches we have assisted and we will continue doing so as God wishes,” added Mureri.

One of the benefiting pastors, Pastor Mboswobeni Mankhili of the Wells of Revival Christian Church in Makonde, said the project was making a great impact in churches. “Come to our churches. Many members do not have Bibles and the ones we received today will make a big difference. Our congregants will share in reading the Bible,” he said.

The Department of Education in Limpopo said the incident where a five-year-old Grade R pupil, Surprise Mulwanndwa Mutenda, sustained serious burns during school hours is a concern for the department.

Departmental spokesperson Mr Paena Galane said dealing with young pupils required that those looking after them always keep a watchful eye on them. “The incident in question is unfortunate and a concern for all of us,” Galane said. “Dealing with pupils, especially little ones, requires extra care, as unexplain-able things happen within the blink of an eye.”

He stated that the pupils in Surprise’s class were under the supervision of the principal, Ms Grace Makakavhule, at Mak-watambani Primary School at Maelula village. He couldn’t ex-plain if the teacher for that class was off-duty or away on that day.

He explained that the two pupils, Surprise and a classmate, left the classroom to play outside in the five minutes that the prin-cipal had left the classroom for the administration block. Once outside the classroom, another pupil allegedly pushed Surprise into the fire where the school was burning some refuse. He sustained severe burns on both hands, his chin, the lower part of his stomach, and his left foot.

back to the class,” Galane said. “The school has tried to assist the family, but they have requested to attend to the matter on their own, without the help of the school.”

Surprise’s father, Mr Edward Mutenda, denied the Department of Education’s claim that the fam-ily had declined any help from the department. “I don’t think we would have approached the news-papers to publicise our case if we had refused to accept assistance from the school,” Mutenda said.

“If the provincial education office has decided to side with the school and the principal, who failed to maintain security and safety at the school, then they can do so. There is nothing that we can do to force them to treat this case in the light of truth and honesty.”

M u t e n d a said he st i l l failed to un-derstand the reason why the fire was made during school hours and no one supervised it in the first place. Howev-er, when Lim-popo Mirror asked Galane (this Monday) if it was per-m i s s i b l e o r lawful for the

school to make a fire in the school yard and not supervise it, he still maintained that “everything hap-pened within the blink of an eye.”

Meanwhile, Surprise has ex-pressed fear of ever going back to school.

Yet Galane said there was no professional counselling which would be offered to young Sur-prise, so that he would be able to return to school. “We respect the family’s decision to attend the matter on their own without any help from the school,” he said.

Surprise was nursing his wounds at his home, at Maelula village, while other pupils were busy writing end-of-year exams.

Well-known Zimbabwean artist Nonny Mathe employs different media and techniques, such as batik and acrylic paint, on textile and canvas.

The maize fl our resin she uses to create a cracked effect gives her work striking layers of texture and depth. Her paintings are mainly abstract and semi-abstract, with moving fi gures captured in bold, rich colours.

Nonny facilitates workshops for art students in Zimba-bwe and did a fi ve-day training course for local artists and crafters at Madi a Thavha Mountain Lodge outside Louis Trichardt during the fi rst week of November this year, teaching various batik-like techniques, knot-and-dye, acrylic paint and textile printing methods. “Women always fi gured strongly in my paintings. I recently realized that there is actually a shortage of men in Zimbabwe; in fact, I mainly see groups of women everywhere.” One of her recent paintings is called Men shortage. Her latest offering comes almost fi ve years after she released her last album.

The latest CD has fi ve intoxicating tracks, which are all in the same mould as her previous albums. How-ever, they have an African jazz feel, which made her a household name in the industry. Asked why she took so long to come up with a new album, she pointed out that she is not into “quick bubblegum music and a quick buck, but music that will last for gen-erations. Low-quality music comes and goes, but the good one will last forever. I want to do something that will stay and be listened to by many generations after we are gone.”

She said she could not produce an album each year, but needed time to compose and arrange quality music. She also fi red shots at music pirates, saying they were stealing the liveli-hood of artists and also leading to the closure of the music industry.

She said that she was able to make a living as she was mostly booked to perform at small venues around the country. “Big promoters overlook us for big gigs, but we are able to make a living from the shows we have all over the country.With the support we are getting, we will not tire of giving our fans good music,” she said. She added that, apart from music, she has started her own business, Magodi Music Productions. “We have started inviting businesspeople from all over Limpopo, and we rope in experts who motivate them and share expe-riences with them. Learning and teaching of maths and science subjects at Tshivhase Secondary School are set to change for the better, following a donation of half a million rands to refurbish the science laboratory building. The laboratory building was old and dilapidated, but a former pupil, Tshigomane Uapfa, had approached the Old Mutual Foundation for help. The provincial general manager of the insurance company, Mr Keetse Tlou, said during the recent unveiling of the refurbished science laboratory that education received the lion’s share of Old Mutual’s social investment, with more than R350 million set aside over seven years to drive initiatives. Mayor celebrates his birthday with crèche children

South African woman faces deportation in Zimbabwe

The ongoing killing of women and children will not be tolerated, said Cllr Tshitereke Matibe, the executive mayor of the Vhembe District.

“We strongly condemn the abuse of women and children by men and fathers who should protect them,” he said.

He was speaking during his 45th birthday cel-ebrations that took place at the Nyeleti Crèche at Gumbani-Mukhomi outside Thohoyandou last Wednesday.

He said he decided to celebrate the day with the young children and said it was part of the gov-ernment’s programme to promote early chilhood development (ECD) among the young pupils.

He also donated some educational toys to the pupils.

“We also found that the crèche had no better building for learning and teaching and we decided to approach the provincial Department of Public Works, Social Development and the Vhembe dis-trict municipality for building of new classes for the crèche kids,” added Matibe.

The principal of Nyeleti Crèche, Mr Kenneth Shivuri, expressed his appreciation towards Mati-be, and said he was over the moon to find out that his crèche was celebrating their leader’s birthday with him.

A South African woman, who was arrested and detained by Zimbabwean immigration officials for allegedly fraudulently acquiring a permanent resident permit in that country, is challenging her imminent deportation in court.

Ms Saudi Letie (35) of Polokwane and married to Mr Menia Nkomo, a Zimbabwean residing in Bulawayo, heaved a sigh of relief after she was granted US$100 bail by a Bulawayo magistrate on Saturday last week, pending the hearing of the matter today (Friday).

She will appear before Magistrate Sibongile Msipa and will be defended by her lawyer, Mr Cedric Dube.

According to court documents, Letie married Nkomo in 2010 and their wedding was solemnised at Western Commonage Magistrate’s Court.

On November 28, 2011, Letie and Nkomo went to the immigration offices in Bulawayo where it is alleged that they fraudulently obtained a permanent resident permit.

She was arrested by immigration officials after they had inspected her passport and discovered the alleged offence.

The team from the Sungmin Foundation, the largest facility for the disabled in Korea, filmed three promotional documentary videos. A delegation from Seoul, South Korea, recently visited Louis Trich-ardt on a fact-finding mission.

The team of five are from the Sungmin Foundation and filmed three promotional documentary videos with the Agapé African Choir as the main theme. They interviewed the Makhado municipal manager, among others, and also filmed in Chavani in the Elim area.

The Sungmin Foundation, the larg-est facility for the disabled in South Korea, is connected to the Nowon Full Gospel Church. “We received a visit from the choir and when we saw all of the positive elements of the choir, we wanted to jump right in and

create friendship. They came to Korea first and we thought it was our turn to come back to South Africa,” said spokesperson for the team, Ms Vanes-sa Won. She explained that they came to interview various groups from different backgrounds, from different economic levels and different colours, members and non-members of the choir. “We conducted and filmed interviews just to get the overall feel and an objective picture of the choir and its impact on the community. We believe that the choir can thrive more in impacting the world with its skills, heart and creativity,” Won said.

“The purpose of doing this is to create promotional video clips with

South Korean film crew on fact finding missionthree targets: churches in Korea and outside Korea, welfare foundations, not just the Sungmin Foun-dation but the other foundations in Korea, and also regular, secular middle-sized corporations,” the leader of the team, businessman Mr Mike Lee, said. They had a five-year plan in mind that could hopefully benefit the Sungmin Foundation, as well as the choir. The Sungmin Foundation, which focuses on both the physically and mentally handicapped, always needs to create an inflow to meet their budget.

After his interview, municipal manager Mr Sakkie Mutshinyali said that he was in favour of twinning between churches, foundations, business-es and municipalities of the two countries. “We should relate. We could even think of our children going there to study and your students coming here to gain practical experience. We shall be able to take them in collaboration with the national trea-sury and the Department of Trade and Industry,” Mutshinyali said.

The local churches and the Nowon Full Gospel Church have a strong focus on the next generation in common. “Besides our Sungmin Foundation, youth missions are our second strong point. We believe in bringing in the next generation into leadership positions, so that the whole cycle goes on actively. We have strategic missions in China, Japan and India and a Bible school in the Philip-pines,” Won said. The Nowon church has 40 000 members.

The senior pastor of the Agapé Christian Church, Pastor Sam van Niekerk, said that he was humbled and surprised when he learnt of the fact-finding mission.

“There is nothing concrete on the table yet, but if the choir gets more exposure in South Ko-rea, it would be in line with our objective of reaching out and touch-ing people’s lives,” Van Niekerk said.

School children alert community members about the symptoms of TB through role play.

The Lesley Manyathela Stadium in Musina was recently filled to the brim, as community members and delegates from various organ-isations gathered for the launch of the annual Lesley Manyathela Kick Tuberculosis (TB), HIV/Aids and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) campaign.

Speakers shared important infor-mation with the community on issues of health. Pupils from different prima-ry schools around Musina took part in a knock-out penalty-kick competition, to demonstrate how easily community members can “kick” TB, HIV/Aids and sexually transmitted infections. The team of Beit Bridge Primary School beat Saint Martin De Porres 4-2 in the final.

The acting chief executive officer of the Musina Hospital, Mr George Makuya, said the aim of the campaign was to create awareness on diseases that people could easily prevent or

control. “Through this annual cam-paign, we want our people to under-stand how best they can improve their health conditions.”

Dr Helen Mavhandu-Mudzusi from the University of South Africa dis-cussed the preventive measures and how people can detect early warnings of different diseases.

Local TB and HIV/Aids ambassa-dor Ms Zilia Tshiruma stated that TB was curable and patients should not hide behind transparent walls. “They should come out of the closet. If you are living with TB, please make your doctor or any other health practitioner your best friend. You will live longer if you follow their instructions.”

Cllr Gift Phiri of the Musina Municipality added that health cam-paigns contributed positively to the well-being of society. “We should all practice what we have been taught here today. Together we can help our community to stay healthy.”

Investigations continue into SuperSpar robbery

The Musina police say that investigations continue into the Musina SuperSpar robbery.

The Musina police are investigating an armed robbery at Musina SuperSpar.

The robbery, which left residents, townspeople and hawkers afraid to walk the streets of the town without looking back, took place on 20 October at around 13:00. “We had tightened all the bolts and we hope that the more we keep our focus on this case, the better the chances of a breakthrough,” said the Musina police's spokes-person, Const Dakalo Ramagwede.

“This is the time of the year when criminals are desperate for getting money by all means and, as the police, we are not going to fold our arms and sit back. We will continue to do our job to maintain security and protect the community from all evils of crime.”

It is alleged that the three unknown suspects, two males and a female, entered the shop and

proceeded to the office were the money is kept.

They found two ladies who were work-ing in the office and pointed a firearm at them and ordered them to show them

where the money was.“The money was allegedly stowed in a

drawer and the suspects allegedly helped themselves to R85 000 cash,” Ramagwede said. “Our investigation continues.”

A 44-year-old teacher from Waterval was re-leased on R1 000 bail on a rape charge when he appeared in the Waterval Magistrate's Court on Thursday, 13 November.

According to the police, he is accused of raping a 13-year-old pupil. He was arrested on 1 No-vember in connection with the case. The case was postponed twice before he received bail. He will appear again in court on 30 January, 2015.

Anti-crime campaignWhen the festive season approaches, criminal activities usually spiral out of control, while pupils on their school holidays often engage in delinquent behaviour.

With this in mind, the police at Levubu have initiated an anti-crime campaign in their area of jurisdiction to ensure that communities and pupils are safe during the holidays.

Various community policing forums (CPF) and some community members reinforced the working relationship by cleaning the police station twice a week. The Levubu police believe that activities such as these will help the police and communities to combat crime.

Despite the established relationship with the community, the police also engaged in pep talks with pupils at various secondary schools in the Zondo Circuit. The school pep talk was initiated after the principal of Maswie Secondary School in Tshakhuma complained to the police that pupils frequently bunked classes, engaged in sexual ac-tivities and were generally not disciplined. It was also established that, in the very same school, all Grade 9s had failed during the June exams.

Levubu police spokesperson W/O Solly Mukho-la said after hearing the sad news about the pupils' behaviour the police invited relative stakeholders, such as the CPF, traditional authorities, the pastors' forum and the school governing body to all second-ary schools in the Zondo circuit.

“Their urgent talk will motivate the pupils to refrain from delinquent behaviour and understand that the future is in their own hands. The established relationship with communities will help us to com-bat crime in our jurisdiction,” said W/O Mukhola.

“If you push all those people away, how will they change their lives for the better?”

Vhaingameli Vho-Mamburu said that it had taken them about six years to build and complete the new building. The congrega-tion was able to build the church through holding fundraising

concerts and services.“It's true that building a church

of this nature is not an easy thing in the world of today, where most people are not employed,” he said. “I can also encourage other churches to contribute funds and build their own churches.”

He added that he understood that people did not choose to hold church services under the trees. “It is only through unity and a little understanding that you can build a church s t ruc ture of your own,” he said.

A r c h b i s h -op Makhitha urged pastors t o he rd the c h i l d r e n o f God with re-spect and love. “We need love among church elders and in t h e c h u r c h

leadership first,” he said. “That love can also be transferred to all the children of God in the church. When people speak one language, they achieve more.”

It was also stressed during the service that groupings inside the church tended to destroy the church. “Every church member who has a problem must report it to the church committee, so the issues can be resolved,” Makhitha said.

Mazda have no plans for leaving townFor so long in South Africa, one of the most notable partnerships has been that of Ford and Mazda, and it is hard to remember a time when they were not together.

Unfortunately these two corporations parted ways last year, leaving the burn-ing question; “where will I buy my new Mazda?”

Because some confusion existed after Mazda and Ford split in 2013, Mazda announced their commencement of operations as a new national sales and service company in South Africa earli-er in 2014. Basically that implies that Mazda is now independent from Ford.

For residents of Louis Trichardt it means that they can still buy their new Mazda locally.

The new Mazda products will be available at Bridge Auto, located at 4 Rissik Street, where they are proud to sell a product that won the Japan Car of the Year award.

In addition, the Mazda 2, which is soon to be launched in South Africa, also received the Good Design Gold Award at the beginning of November.

Models available for 2014 include the Mazda 2, Mazda 3, Mazda 5, Mazda 6, Mazda CX-5, Mazda MX-5 and Mazda BT-50.

The launch date of the next-genera-tion Toyota Hilux bakkie is a more closely guarded secret than the local municipality’s fi nances. Even more so is the design of this legendary bakkie that has left its mark on South African soil.

Until the launch, Hilux fans will have

to live on the history and legend that is the birthday edition Hilux Legend 45 package. This is not a bad thing, considering just how admired this ever popular workhorse still is today.

The package mainly includes aesthet-ical changes. Tweaks include partially blacked-out headlights, smoked tail

lights, a stainless steel front nudge-bar, a stainless steel rear stop bumper, a tow bar, black side-steps, “Legend 45” badging (on the nudge-bar, front doors and tailgate), colour-coded door handles, chrome side-mirror caps and tasteful 17-inch anthracite alloys. A tonneau cover and rear styling bar (ba-

sically a faux roll-bar), meanwhile, are available as a cost option.

On the inside, the Legend 45 models got a black leather trim for the seats, door panels and steering wheel, with matching dashboard fi nish. Toyota has even installed a reverse camera fi tted to all Xtra cab and double cab versions.

Engine options available in the range include the proven 3-litre D-4D turbo diesel that delivers 120kW and 343Nm. The other diesel option, in double cabs only, is a 106kW/343Nm 2.5-litre D-4D.

A petrol fan? Choose between the 118kW/241Nm 2.7-litre unit (SC, DC) and the mighty 175kW/376Nm 4-litre V6 (DC only).

Protector clears Musina municipality

The good works that Pastor Prince Ramahala is doing for his church and his commu-nity were recognized when his church, the Full Gospel Church at Tsianda, held an appreciation function for him and his family.

The event, held at the church building on Sunday, was attended by pastors from other congre-gations, Capt Nelson Vele of the Levubu SAPS and many

community and church members. Bishop Mbangiseni Ratshitanga of the Revival Apostolic Church Centre in Ngulummbi was the guest of honour.

During the event, Ramahala was showered with gifts by the church.

Ms Rebecca Mamantshara-ga, one of the organizers, said Ramahala was a hardworking man whose involvement in em-powering God’s people went

beyond the walls of his church. “He serves in many community structures, but there has never been a day that he failed us.”

Bishop Ratshitanga urged the church to take their pastor as their spiritual father who needed their care. “Your pastor is the head of the family and, like any person, has physical needs. Please make sure you take care of those needs as he cares for your spiritual needs,” he said.

The Office of the Public Protector has cleared the Musina Municipality of allegations of nepotism, corruption and price increases of a strategic planning session, which was held in Phalaborwa in March 2013.

The communications manager of the Musina Municipality, Mr Wilson Dzebu, says the investiga-tions were a result of media reports and complaints from some local individuals who approached the Office of the Public Protector to investigate the municipality.

“We are glad to report to our people that the Office of the Public Protector has investigated and cleared us of the allegations relating to alleged nepotism through the appointment of friends and relatives of senior municipal officials. We were also cleared of allegations that some of the posi-tions filled are not in the municipal organogram and that some job applications were submitted late and by fax. We were also investigated on the allegations that some of the appointed candidates did not meet the job requirements and that salary adjustments were done without following the cor-rect procedures.”

Teams affiliated to the ABC Motsepe League will play their second league matches this weekend.

Six matches will be played tomorrow afternoon and one will be staged on Sunday. The eighth one will be played this evening. The only ABC Motsepe League team in Vhembe District, Joe Express, will play their match at home.

They will host Modimolle Aces at the Makwarela Stadium.

It will be the first league match for Joe Express this season as they did not play last weekend.

Express were supposed to have played against Blue Rocks at the Nkowankowa Stadium last Saturday, but Blue Rocks failed to honour the fixture.

Cash prizes for Peace Lovers and FinaleTshakhuma Peace Lovers were crowned the champions of the TD Newlook Soccer Challenge at the Tshakhuma Malaria grounds on Saturday. They beat Tshakhuma Finale FC 1-0 in the final. (See a re-port of the final elsewhere in the paper).

Peace Lovers were presented with R1 500 and Finale FC with R1 000.

Tshakhuma Peace Lov-ers’ way to the final went via Tshakhuma Muthenga Porcu-

pine FC, whom they beat 1-0 in the semifinal at the same venue earlier that day. Finale beat Tshakhuma Blue Birds 1-0 in their semifinal to secure a place in the final.

Six teams from Tshakhuma village, which are all affiliated to the Makhado Local Foot-ball Association, took part in the tournament. The teams are Tshakhuma Blue Birds, Tshakhuma Shooting Stars, Peace Lovers, Finale FC, Mu-thenga Porcupine FC and TNN

Lidoda Duvha must beat Milano UnitedBlack Leopards must win their match against Milano United at the Philipi Stadium in Cape Town this evening.

A victory for Lidoda Duvha will keep up their hopes to take part in the promotional play-offs at the end of the season, and should Leopards beat Milano this evening, the Thohoyan-dou Stadium will be filled to capacity when the Thohoyandou outfit hosts FC Cape Town at the venue next Saturday, 6 December. It remains to be seen whether the Leopards’ drib-bling wizard, Leonard Ntshangase, will continue to make his mark this evening. Position Description: Curriculum SpecialistReporting to the School Turnaround Curriculum Manager, the Curriculum Specialist will educate, communi-cate and consistently build effective working relationships with principals, educators, learners, clients, em-ployees and colleagues. The Waterpoort police launched the 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children during a ceremony at Fhembeledzani Primary School on Saturday.

The event was attended by various community members from Waterpoort, Maname Paradise, Tshikuwi, police within the Makhado cluster and government representatives from various provin-cial departments.

It started with a road race and various groups performed traditional and modern dances during the ceremony.

The station commissioner of the Waterpoort Police Station, Capt Samuel Mushapo, said it was important for communities to take a robust stand against the scourge. He added that men seldom reported the cases if they were abused, for fear of embarrassment. He advised women to refrain from abusing their children and to stop misusing their child grants. According to him, it was established that women in that area often use their children’s grants to buy alcohol. He emphasised that families should ensure there is peace in their homes and added that it would be a fundamental step to fight the scourge of violence.

The provincial chairperson of the Community Police Forum, Mr Edward Mafune, said when communities were working with the police, the ongoing incidents of crime would be eradicated.

“When police and community structures plan to help one anoth-er, criminal incidents can be easily solved,” he said.

The unexpected happened at the Tshakhuma Malaria grounds when Tshakhuma Peace Lovers rose to the occa-sion and beat Tshakhuma Fina-le FC 1-0 in the final of the TD Newlook Soccer Challenge on Saturday.

The result was not a true reflection of the game as Finale dictat-ed the terms from the onset.

Khu thadzo Mu-komafhedzi, the Finale keeper, made his pres-ence felt in the 54th minute. He stretched to the limit to execute a brilliant save after Maano Ravele tried his luck from the 25-meter area. The goal which separated the boys from the men came in the 64th minute. Madodonga United through to next stage of Western ChallengeMadodonga United proceeded to the next stage of the Western Soccer Challenge, when they beat Midoroni Real Hearts 7-6 at the Kutama grounds on Sunday.

T h e t w o t e a m s played to 1-all draw and the winner was de-termined by a penalty shoot-out.

Hearts were good at the far back, but their midfielders hesitated for too long and did not release the ball on time. This sloppy performance put the defence under tremen-dous pressure. The boys from Madodonga initiated some prom-ising moves from the centre of the pitch, but were denied a number of scoring opportuni-ties by the defenders of Real Hearts.

book for different infringements are Rudzani Kha-lushi of Hearts and Given Netshithuthuni of United.

Calvin Tshivhulawa of United scored his team's goal in the 34th minute. He unleashed a powerful

shot from outside the box and beat the opponents' keeper easily. Hearts approached the second half like a house on fire.

They threatened to score in the early minutes when Moses Mabeba forced his way through the defence and passed the ball to Nditsheni Sikwari. His attempt missed the target.

Moses Manage of United managed to outwit the opponents and released a rocket from outside the box, to make the score 1-1.

More humiliation

Black Leopards’ enthusiastic fans have reason to panic, following their team’s failure in the Mother City.

The team has lost two matches in a row and conceded seven goals. They lost 2-3 to Santos at the Athlone Stadium last Saturday evening and, as if that was not good enough to irritate the fans, Lidoda Duvha suffered a 1-4 drubbing at the hands of Cape Town All Stars on Tuesday evening.

This despite the fact that the Thohoyandou out-fi t had appointed the former Chippa United head coach, Mr Marc Harrison, as the team’s new head coach last Sunday, a day after their defeat to Santos.

Leonard Ntshangase scored Leopards’ two goals against Santos. Although Santos were the fi rst to fi nd the net, Black Leopards were leading 2-1 when the teams adjourned for the half-time break. Santos

scored through Edson Marks in the 14th minute and Ntshangase scored quick goals in the 24th and 29th minute respectively. Santos found the equalizer via Rudy Isaacs in the 64th minute.

Eric Dryer scored the winning goal later in the game.

Tuesday’s game against All Stars was equally contested during the fi rst half, but Leopards lost their rhythm over time.

The home side were leading 1-0 at half time. Zephaniah Mbokoma scored with a header in the 44th minute after a corner kick by David Steyn. Mbokoma made their second goal happen in the 55th minute.

He dished a neat pass to Houston Hills, who blasted in a rocket from inside the box.

All Stars put the matter beyond doubt in the 68th minute. Amigo Memela dribbled past two of Leopards’ de-fenders and beat the keeper, Jacob Mokhasi, with a ground cutter. Leopards reduced the defi cit by one through Thomas Sweswe eight minutes before the fi nal whistle, but Saalman King sealed the deal for All Stars by adding their fourth goal a minute later.

Leopards will play against another Cape Town side, Milano United, at the Philipi Stadium in Cape Town this evening (Friday). The match will start at 19:30.
