    TODAYS GOSPELMatthew 6:31-33

So do not worry and say, What are we to eat?

or What are we to drink? or What are we to wear?

All these things the pagans seek.

Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.

But seek first the kingdom of God

    and his righteousness,

and all these things will be given

    you besides.

    FR. ADRIANS CORNER

Lent is almost upon us and it seems we just said good-bye to Christmas! Lent is a wonderful me of possibilitywhen we have the opportunity to refresh our relaon-ship with God and come close to Jesus. Lent is a me ofpreparaon for Easter when we celebrate the Resurrec-on of the Lord and bapze our newest sisters and

brothers in the Faith. We have two retreats in the parish for Lent. The first

is in English and will be conducted by Abbot Damienfrom St. Andrew Benedicne Abbey in Valyermo, CA. Fr.Damien will preside at Mass and preach on Monday 10,Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 of March in the ParishChapel beginning at 7:00 p.m. His reflecons will beshort on each night, affording busy parishioners the op-portunity to parcipate without taking up the enreevening. I hope that as many as possible will come andjoin us for the short three-day retreat on the theme:

The Joy of the Gospel. The Hispanic retreat will be given this year by Vicente

Leal on the same theme the Holy Fathers leer to theChurch entled, The Joy of the Gospel. The retreat inSpanish will take place at the Serra Center on March 24,25 and 26 beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Our parish pilgrimage to Rome and Assisiis full with aconsiderable waing list. If you are unsure of the dead-line for deposits please give Wendy Brophy a call at 858-756-4174 x1702 or email Wendy at [email protected].

Our Mens Prayer and Discernment Group will meet

on Thursday 6thof March at 7:00 p.m. at the St. FrancisRoom in the Old Mission. We are prey full at the mo-ment so please contact me directly by email if you areinterested in taking part. ([email protected])

The Parish Liturgical Councilhas goen underway andis planning for Holy Week and Easter. The members ofthe council are Lupe Rios (Director of Worship), LauraWoodward-Gibson, Fr. Luis, Tavale Tavale, Jenny Flynn,David Coe and Fr. Adrian.

Parcipants in our RCIA programtogether with spon-sors and teachers will meet Bishop Cirilo in San Diego on

Sunday 9 March for the Rite of Sending. Congratulaonsto our soon-to be-sisters and brothers in the Faith. Iwould like to say a parcular word of thanks to MaryDorso and to her team who run the RCIA program. Notforgeng Larry LaGrasta, who takes care of the youngerfolk and Araceli Gonzalez with her team in the corre-sponding program for the Hispanic Community. On be-half of the whole parish I want to thank all our wonderfulteachers, Hispanic and English-speaking for the

tremendous work you do with our children, young peo-ple and adults, and to the volunteers who support andassist in so many ways. I include also Monica Duran andher team who run the Childrens Liturgyof the WordonSundays during the 10:00 a.m. Mass. We are blessed inthis parish with such generous people who work in Reli-gious Educaon at so many levels.

Pope Francishas called for a Synod of Bishops from all

over the world to discuss the Family. In a leer to allfamilies on the Feast of the Presentaon in early Febru-ary, the Holy Father shared these thoughts with us:

I am wring this leer to you on the Feast of thePresentaon of the Lord in the Temple. The evangelistLuke tells us that the Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph, inkeeping with the Law of Moses, took the Baby Jesus tothe temple to offer him to the Lord, and that an elderlyman and woman, Simeon and Anna, moved by the HolySpirit, went to meet them and acknowledged Jesus asthe Messiah (cf. Lk2:22-38). Simeon took him in his arms

and thanked God that he hadfi

    nally seen salva

on.Anna, despite her advanced age, found new vigor andbegan to speak to everyone about the Baby. It is a beau-ful image: two young parents and two elderly people, brought together by Jesus. He is the one who brings to-gether and unites generaons! He is the inexhausblefont of that love which overcomes every occasion of self-absorpon, solitude, and sadness. In your journey as afamily, you share so many beauful moments: meals, rest, housework, leisure, prayer, trips and pilgrimages, and mes of mutual support Nevertheless, if there isno love then there is no joy, and authenc love comes to

us from Jesus. He offers us his word, which illuminatesour path; he gives us the Bread of life which sustains uson our journey.

May the Lord bless our Parish Family! Have a wonderfulweek ahead.

    Fr. Adrian.

THANK YOUTo our dear parish family: We would like to express our

hearelt thanks for your generous support in our me of grief.Though he is dearly missed, Phil leus at peace with the beau-ful and fulfilling life he lived and the legacy of family he builtfor us. We ask for your connued prayers as you all connueto be in ours. God Bless, the Borja Family

    Connuacin

    Padre Adrian
