    November 3, 2013 - 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time | 3

FR. ADRIANS CORNERThanks for your pa ence with the Citys celebra on of

Dia de los Muertos last Sunday at the Mission. I knowthe parking got crazy at mes and traffic moved slowlybut its just one day of inconvenience for us and I thinkwe weathered it well.

We had a good informa on night last Wednesday forthe Parish Pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi in 2014. Bro-chures will come out soon with all the details of the i n-erary and the cost. Many thanks to Wendy Brophy forpu ng together a very interes ng trip that includes visitsto Rome, the Franciscan Shrines in Rie , Assisi, and LaVerna, as well visits to the ci es of Florence and Siena. Ifwe get over thirty people to go the cost will come down.We are doing our best to keep the pilgrimage as a ff orda-ble as possible.

During the week the Environment Team cleaned outthe foyer of the Serra Center which was becomingclu ered with tables and various odds and ends. Thingsare looking dier now and we hope to keep the area freeof clu er. Ministers to the Sick and the Homebound will

sign up at the big wooden table in the foyer and the ush-ers will also use it for collec on baskets. Thanks to eve-ryone for your coopera on.

I am happy to announce that we will be transferringthe tabernacle from the Priests Sacristy to a new loca-

on in the room to the right of where the choir is cur-rently located. This room as been used as a storageroom but will now be used as a chapel for the BlessedSacrament on weekends. The tabernacle itself will belarger than the one we are using now and Ministers ofthe Eucharist will be able to have easy access to it in thenew loca on. The chapel will provide a place for quietprayer, something people have asked for over the years.

Lupe Rios, our Director of Worship and Linda Causee,Head of Environment will spearhead the crea on of thisBlessed Sacrament Chapel at the Serra Center.

Thank you very much for the generous response to theWorld Mission Appeal last Sunday. Your money will goto help struggling churches in various parts of the world, many of them in desperate needs of our assistance. Ourkindness and generosity gives our sisters and brothershope.

Speaking at Mass during the week, the Holy Fatherre ected on words from St. Paul in which he says: 'Neverdisappoint yourself'- Hope never lets you down. Why?Said Pope Francis: Because it's a gi from the Holy Spir-it. And he con nued: Paul tells us that hope has a name.Hope is Christ. Elabora ng on the meaning of hope thePope said that it creates a tension directed towards therevela on of Jesus Christ, towards true joy that is eternallife. And referring to the virtues of faith, hope and chari-ty, the Pope said that o en the virtue of hope is seen asthe most humble of the three, because he said it ishidden in life. You can see faith he added you can feelit, you know what it is. And charity too we know whatthat is.

CULTURE OF LIFEThe Na onal 40 Days for Life Fall campaign started on Sep

tember 25th and will con nue thru TODAY, Nov. 3rd. Pleasepray for the unborn, aborted babies, abor on clinic workersand parents of aborted babies.

If it is possible, please fast and pray with us and join us atthe abor on clinic on any Tues., Thurs., or Fri. from 8:00 a.mto 12:00 p.m. at the Palomar Pomerado Health Building in SanMarcos. For more informa on call Marge Collins at 760-967-5968

But what is hope? What is this a tude of hope? First ofall - he said - we can say it is a risk, a risky virtue aSaint Paul says: it is a virtue of ardent expecta on for theRevela on. "It is not an illusion". And he con nued:Jesus, the hope, renews everything. So hope is a con-stant miracle. "The miracle of what Hes doing in theChurch. The miracle of making everything new: of whatHe does in my life, in your life, in our life. He builds anHe rebuilds. And that is precisely the reason of our

hope". "Christ is the one who renews every wonderfulthing of the Crea on; He's the reason of our hope. Andthis hope does not delude because He is faithful. He can'trenounce Himself. This is the virtue of hope. The Lord ve you a hope lled week.Fr. Adrian

TALES FROM THE SISTERS KOI PONDOver the summer, members of the large turtle family that

live in the parish Koi Pond spent a good deal of me escap-ing the enclosure and roaming the property. Their goal? Tolay eggs. They roamed as far as the cemetery and into SerraGardens. One turtle was rescued from the road! But forthe rst me in recent memory, one of the eggs actuallyhatched into a new baby turtle that returned to the

pond. About the size of a quarter, this li le baby didnt looklike it was going to survive. It was too small and kept ge ngsucked into the leaf skimmer pump and had to be rescued.

Fortunately, our Chapel Garden gardener, Mr. Phil, founda nice home for the baby. The Naughton/Gamboa familyadopted the li le turtle and recently wrote a note to let Philknow that his baby turtle is doing ne. The family hasnamed him/her Cleo. They wont know if its a boy or a girlturtle for another year or so. But they are excited aboutthe new addi on to their family.

OMMS Room 6 recently put a hand colored and handwri en thank you book together for Mr. Phil and his crewof turtle keepers, gardeners and pond keepers. Room 6 hasa special place in the parish. Their classroom of 1st, 2nd and3rd graders is directly outside the pond. They recently savedthe koi sh when they spo ed a heron landing on the koipond railing and raised an outcry! In their thank you bookto Mr. Phil, they men oned the owers and beau ful trees, birds and sh that are so well cared for by Phil and his help-ers. The children also noted how much they loved thegold nches that Phil cares for in the garden.

Phil has been a volunteer at MSLRP for manyyears. Thanks to Room 6 for recognizing one of our parishvolunteer treasures.Karen WillsonDirector of Communica ons

as.

Padre Adrian
