Still no trace of Philemon Mukhese

Electricity pay-point at Tshiozwi robbed

It is almost a month and half after the disappearance of Philemon Mukhese.

Mukhese (27) of Mangondi outside Thohoyandou went missing on 3 December 2011, after being taken to Tshilidzini hospital in an ambulance. Mukhese had suffered injuries after a scuffl e with a former colleague at a local tavern. He has not been seen since.

Ms Selinah Mukhese, an aunt of the missing man, said they were called to the local bar at around 08:00 on a Saturday. “We rushed there after being told that he had been attacked and was injured. We found him in the lounge with blood all over his body,” she said.

She said they persuaded him to go to the hospital for treatment. “While we were still discussing the matter, an ambulance arrived. They gave him treatment on the spot and asked us who was to accompany the injured man to hospital. We decided that his brother should accompany him, but when the time came for them to leave, they refused to take him along and took our son away alone,” she said.

She said they only realised that he was missing the following Monday when they went to visit him at the hospital. “When we arrived at the hospital, no one could shed light as to the whereabouts of our son. We searched all the wards and everywhere, but with

no luck,” she said. She said they hade tried everything to locate him, even going to inyangas, who keep on telling them he is still alive. “All we want are answers of what had really happened to our son. We want nothing more than the man himself,” she said.

She said she is worried that the ambulance people had refused to take along a member of the family, but could not account for their missing son. The young man’s uncle, Mr Alpheus Mukhese, said the loss of a loved one had brought a lot of heartache to the family. “We could not even enjoy the festive season with others. We had to cancel most of the activities that involved the family and we concentrated on looking for our son,” he said.

He said they were worried as a family because the father of the man seemed to be losing his mind. He said the mother kept on crying and calling the name of the missing man. “We are greatly saddened as this whole incident is tearing the family apart. We have taken the father to a faraway place as he cannot concentrate,” he said. Mukhese said the Department of Health owed them some answers about the dissapearance of their son.

“We fear the worst must have happened to him. We want to know what happened to him, but they are now distancing themselves from his disappearance. The department must

tell us what happened to him,” he said. Livhuwani Mamagau, the wife of the missing man, said his dissappearance was a big loss to the family. “He used to do some piece jobs and bring back some food for us all, but we are now suffering,” she said.

Limpopo Health Department’s spokesperson, Mr Joe Maila, said he was still outside the offi ce and would respond after checking the records. At the time of going to press, he had not responded.

Meanwhile, the Thohoyandou police appealed to members of the community who might have seen the missing man to please contact them. Mukhese has been described as dark in complexion, slender and tall. He was last seen wearing a brown denim jean, a brown shirt and brown shoes.

Those who might see him are requested to inform the Thohoyandou police at 015 960 1000.

The Makhado Municipality’s only electricity pay point in the Sinthumule area was allegedly bombed during a robbery that occurred at the Tshiozwi Tribal Offi ces last Sunday.

Residents are now forced to travel to the municipality’s headquarters in Louis Trichardt to buy their electricity. R40 000 in cash was stolen during the incident.

The spokesperson for the Tshilwavhusiku police, Const Godwin Mahuwa, said the incident took place at night, while the people were asleep.

“We are investigating a case of business robbery, following the incident,” said Mahuwa. He added that no one had been arrested yet and that police investigations were still continuing. Although Mahuwa confirmed that the pay point had been

bombed, he did not reveal what type of explosives were used during the incident.

The incident has now made it costly to get electricity, as residents must buy their electricity in Louis Trichardt. “It was very cheap buying electricity in the village. We did not even pay for a taxi to buy electricity,” said some of the affected residents, which included a 69yearold granny, Ms Masindi Mulaudzi.

The Tshiozwi pay point was the second Makhado Municipality pay point to be robbed in six months, following the Kutama pay point that was robbed in July last year. Cash amounting to R22 000 was stolen during this robbery.

Makhado Municipality’s municipal manager, Mr Shadrack Tshikalange, said that he was

very disappointed that at the same time that they were trying by all means to take services to the people, there were people who were preventing it. He said that an internal investigation was launched, following the incident. “If we fi nd that there was an involvement of our staff members in any way, harsh measures will be taken against them,” said Tshikalange. A traditional leader, Khosi Vho Rudzani Sinthumule, said that criminals wouldn’t be tolerated in his area. “This is affecting both the service and our good relationship we have with the municipality,” he said.

Sinthumule urged residents who might have seen anything to come forward and furnish the police with information, so that the culprit can be brought to book.

“Communities must respect culture”One of the traditional leaders in the Vhembe region, Khosi Nthuseni Nemafukani, has urged young people in his vil-lage to respect and promote the Tshivenda culture and tradition.

The Mafukani Cultural Day, which was recently celebrated, is the brainchild of Khosi Nemafukani, who said he was eager to promote and preserve culture through Tshivenda cultural dances, singing and teaching young people how to respect their elders.

Khosi Nemafukani, who is from the Vhangona clan, said he learnt respecting the elders, singing and dancing cultural dances at an early age, because Vhangona’s clan are known for

“preserving and promoting culture and living a peaceful life”

It was a day of dancing cultural dances such as tshikona and tshigombela and teaching young people good morals, so that the Tshivenda culture would not be forgotten even by the future generations.

“Through promoting culture and customs of the Vhavenda nation, we want to establish good morals and encourage the growing nation not to forget its origin. We want to encourage the saying that goes ‘a nation which forgets its culture is doomed’ to work in our communities and make Mafukani village an example in promoting its culture and tradition,” said Nemafukani.

He said that encouraging young people to actively participate in cultural activities was another way of taking them off the streets and keeping them busy from evils such as teenage pregnancies and drug abuse.

One of the community leaders in Mafukani village near Matavhela in Mutale area, Mr Robert Rakhadani, applauded Khosi Nemafukani’s vision of having a cultural day and urged everyone to support the day to be a yearly event. Rakhadani said the day also brought unity among the communities and revived them not to forget their culture and tradition, as some people are working in Gauteng where they are mixed with different cultures.

Vho-Kenny Mpilo points at the headless corpse of his dog, Tiger.

Mystery over deaths and injuries of dogs in MadombidzhaMystery and dread surround the deaths and injuries of dogs in Ma-dombidzha Zone One. This follows after seven dogs were found dead on the morning of 15 January when residents woke up to prepare to go to church. About six dogs that escaped the mysterious, brutal attack in the affected households had bruises and injuries on their bodies.

In the Tshivule household, Skyvie is described as a beloved and lovely creature that was more than a pet to members of the family. On Sunday he was found lying dead, having been skinned viciously from his neck down to the waist. In a sad mood, they could do no more than dig a hole in the ground and bury him. "It was a horrible picture to look at,” said Aifheli Tshivule as she sat under the tree refl ecting on the matter. "We loved our pet and cared for him a lot. We would buy dog food for him and it made him strong and happy."

All affected people whom Limpopo

Mirror consulted maintain that they heard nothing during the attack in the night. They only woke up to fi nd the appalling scenes in their homes. There are also no traces of any wild, vicious predator like a lion or leopard where the dogs were found lying dead.

Rumours of rabies were strongly dismissed by those affected. This was after a resident, who also spoke to Limpopo Mirror on condition of anonymity, started claiming that there was a rabid dog that lived in the cemetery and that this dog only sneaked into homes during the night to terrorise other dogs. However, residents disagree with him, saying that it is unlikely that a rabid dog can cut off another's head or skin another from neck to waist with such viciousness.

VhoDavid Mulugo is also sad after losing at least two dogs. "I feel sad over the whole thing," he says. "Two of my four dogs have survived the strange killing, but they are bruised all over their bodies. We don't know

what is eating our dogs."In the Mpilo household they had

two dogs that served as guards for the chicken pen, since feral cats had taken to terrorising the chickens. On Sunday morning, they only found Tiger's corpse with its head missing. They searched all over the yard, even in the orchard, but Tiger's head was nowhere to be found. The second dog, Bova, had vanished and no trace of it could be seen either. "I don't have words to explain what happened with

our dogs," VhoKenny Mpilo, owner of the two dead dogs, said. "There's pain in my heart. I loved my dogs just like all my neighbours who are also affected like me. We don't know what is terrorising and killing them. But it's sad, you know."

When he heard about the case of the butchered dogs, the SPCA's senior inspector, Lawrence Khodobo, was deeply moved by the matter and rushed to Madombidzha to investigate.

Six youths lucky to survive accidentWhat was supposed to be a joyride almost ended in tragedy, when six youths from Musina nearly lost their lives on New Year’s eve.

The youths were travelling on a bakkie when the driver lost control in a curve. Two of them were seriously injured, while the rest escaped with minor injuries.

One of the injured is Tshililo Sikhwari (23), who told his story: “It happened so fast as we approached a curve just outside Harper Mine in Musina. We were happy and longed to see the New Year when the driver immediately lost control. We are happy that we have survived.”

Tshililo said the driver was speeding and the curve was so sharp that it was impossible for him to control the car. “Even experienced racers like Michael Schumacher would have missed that curve. We heard a big bang before the car rolled several times and dropped all of us. There was a huge cloud of dust and we could not even see what was happening. I could not remember what happened and next until I found myself in a hospital bed on New Year’s Day.”

Tshililo could not confirm or deny that they were under the influence of alcohol. “On that I cannot comment, but just know that we were happy and the mood was vibrant. I strongly believe that we were saved by the grace of God and we have learnt the hard way. While other people were celebrating New Year’s Day, we were nursing our pains. We really thank God for sparing our lives.”

He says he feels much luckier because one of his friends had a broken neck.

Maumela appointed High Court judge

Taxi driver attacked and robbed

Hard work the only recipe for success

The Graceland Hotel hall was filled to capacity on Sat-urday, when friends, family and colleagues celebrated the recent appointment of Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela as a judge of the North Gauteng High Court.

Maumela, who worked as a prosecutor and magistrate for many years, was hailed as someone who fought tirelessly for justice all his life.

Speaking during the ceremo

A 26-year-old Beit Bridge taxi driver was as-saulted severely and robbed of R1 700 by two unknown men who had hired him on the pretext that they wanted to be ferried to Makakavhule village outside the border town.

Police spokesperson Supt Conrad Manhai said the incident recently occurred in a bushy area near a local lodge. “The two men then got into the car and directed the driver to the lodge where, upon arrival, they ordered him to stop. They then teamed up with two accomplices who were armed with knives and a hoe and they smashed the glass on the driver’s side,” he said.

The suspects robbed the taxi driver of R 1 700 before they stabbed him all over his body with a knife, after which they fled from the scene, leaving him lying there unconscious. The victim, Mr Nyengera Mutsamwira, later regained consciousness and went to the police station where he reported the matter. He was taken to Beit Bridge District Hospital where he was treated and discharged.Manhai said the suspects were still at large. “We have since launched a manhunt for the suspects

Ndaedzo Secondary School in Dzwerani is closing in on the likes of Thengewe and Mbilwi high schools, who are synony-mous with success.

The school has become one of the best schools with a 98,3% matric pass and is one of the top 30 schools in Limpopo. This follows on the heels of 2010’s achievement, when it obtained 82,2%. Only one of the 58 pupils who wrote the examinations failed.

Principal Godfrey Manyaga was quick to point out that hard work, and only hard work, was the secret. “We have a dedicated team of teachers and management who want to see things happenning, as well as stakeholders who are concerned about the education of the children,” he said.

He said they set themselves goals at the beginning of the year and stuck to them. “We started on the first day and we treated

each lesson as preparation for the final examinations and it really worked to our advantage,” he added. “We made a lot of sacrifices last year, even forgeting about holidays.” They also had morning and afternoon studies.

Having achieved that, it is going to be a lot harder this year. “We have to work extra hard this year as our target is a 100% pass. A lot is expected from us and we have to do more than we did last year,” he said.

ny, Judge Joe Raulinga said Maumela had paid his dues and that he was the right man for the position and that he would perform his duties as judge with distinction. He said Maumela had achieved a lot during his stint as a magistrate and cited the drafting of a submission document to the Truth and Reconcilliation Commission as one the best achievements by Maumela.

He describes Maumela as a courageous son, brilliant lawyer,

an outstanding and meticulous human being.

Vho Thovhele Gole Mphaphuli, the senior traditional leader of the Mphaphuli area where Maumela comes from, said Judge Maumela had made the family and the whole province very proud. He said his appointment would encourage the youth in his area that everything is possible; one could emerge from the most remote parts of the villages and be somebody

at national level. “We are very excited about his appointment and we hope the youth will emulate him, so that we have more and more people from this area holding higher positions in the country,” he said.

In reply, Maumela said that his appointment did not mean that he was the most intelligent, as there were better people. He thanked the contributions of family, colleagues and friends for having played a part in moulding him.

SA deports 672The SA Department of Home Affairs on Thursday last week deported 672 more undocumented Zimbabweans through Beit Bridge border as the crackdown on illegal immigrants from the neighbouring country intensified.

The illegal immigrants arrived in their country aboard eight hired buses. The latest figure is the largest since the resumption of the deportations in October last year. Zimbabwe’s assistant regional immigration manager at Beit Bridge border post, Mrs Tamari Shadaya, said of the 672 deportees, 511 were from Lindela holding centre in Johannesburg while 161 were rounded up in various areas in Limpopo province.

“We received 672 Zimbabwean border jumpers on Thursday and they were sent to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for vetting and assistance before deployment to their respective homes,” said Shadaya. She said on average they handled between 80 and 100 deportees a day. “We continue to urge travellers to make sure they have valid travel documents to avoid getting arrested for violating the Immigration Act.”

On arrival in Beit Bridge, the deportees are taken to the IOM reception and support centre where they are offered temporary shelter, food and transport to travel to their respective homes. However, most of them usually shun the assistance and find their way back to South Africa through undesignated entry points along the Limpopo River, despite the dangers of being attacked by crocodiles and robbers operating in bushy areas along the borderline.

South Africa resumed the deportation of Zimbabweans on 7 October last year, following the suspension of the exercise in May 2009. The government later introduced a special dispensation during which Zimbabweans were given an opportunity to regularise their stay in the country by applying for work, business and study permits. Home Affairs officially completed the process of taking applications on 31 December last year and more than 275 000 Zimbabweans met the December 2011 deadline set by the department by which they had to apply to have their stay in South Africa regularized.

and we are appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the two men to contact us or any nearest police station. We also would like to urge motorists, especially taxi drivers, to be extracautious whenever approached by strangers as we continue to record an increase in such cases,” he said.

Patients at Elim Hospital couldn’t believe their eyes when they received special Christmas gifts from a good Samaritan, who said he wanted to bring joy to those who were in pain during Christmas. Each and every patient received a gift from a well-known Limpopo businessman, Mr Thuso Mmbadi of Splish-Splash Construction. He donated gifts that included new clothes to newborn babies, toys and food. “Christmas is the day that families and friends spend time together, but other people tend to forget those who are in pain,” said Mmbadi. He urged other businesspeople to emulate what he had done and get involved in building the nation. In the photo, he hands over a gift to a young patient.

Competition highlights careers in police

100% Matric pass rate for Emmanuel

The South African Police Serv-ice in Limpopo is embarking on a project of encouraging the youth to get interested and in-volved in a career in the polcie service by hosting the “junior competitions” from district to provincial level.

Each police station trains four youths in four respective duties, namely Junior Cluster Commander, Junior Vispol Commander, Junior Detective Commander and Junior Support Service Commander. Youths who win at the district level gain entry to the provincial level leg of the junior cluster compeition.

In the Vhembe area, six police stations within the Makhado cluster, namely Tshilwavhusiku SAPS, Makhado SAPS, Mutale SAPS, Mara SAPS, Waterval SAPS and Mphephu SAPS, held the junior competition at the

Students from the Emmanuel Christian School in Louis Tri-chardt have reason to cel-ebrate, as they are boasting a 100% matric pass rate.

All the students passed their 2011 examinations, of which

69,7% achieved university entrance and the rest diploma status.

Particularly pleasing for the school was the 21 distinctions and 35 B symbols achieved by their group of matriculants

The school’s top achiever was Rilwele Muthelo, who obtained three distinctions. Students who obtained two distinctions were Ntiyiso Mueti, Vhukosi Mahungo, Bongani Mpofu and Tumi Leshabane.

Muduluni Community Hall in the Kutama area on 12 January. At least 24 youths from six policing areas were given ample time to present their action plans on what they would do if

they were given an opportunity to become a commander.

During the presentation of speeches, the youths displayed a lot of confi dence and there was no doubt that the future looked bright for all of them.

This allowed them to take each other on and do battle until the very end. The winners are Charme Lishivha (15) for Junior Cluster Commander, Sandra Ravhuhali (17) for Junior Vispol Commander, Muelelwa Mutenda (16) for Junior Detective Commander and Tshulufelo Selabe (14) for Junior Support Service Commander. The Tshilwavhusiku SAPS was in the top position after it had produced two winners, Charme and Tshulufelo, while Sandra and Muelelwa were from the Makhado SAPS and Mphephu SAPS repectively.

Speaking on behalf of the

winners, Charme Lishivha, who is from the Nngweni Secondary School, said: “I never thought this competition was serious until the last minute. I thank my parents who encouraged me to stay awake and prepare my speech through the night. I am one of the four winners. We’re going to Polokwane to compete against people whom we’ve never seen in our lives. We’ll prepare ourselves and come home winners.”

Khosi VhoRudzani Sinthumule acknowledged the winners and wished them well at the provincial level. “Competitions of this nature motivate kids to be involved in the fi ght against crime,” he said.

The provincial leg of the competition takes place on the 24 January in Polokwane, and the venue has not been confirmed yet.

Reggae star silenced in ThohoyandouWell-known Limpopo reggae star Khakhathi Tshisikule caused a stir and even took his fans by surprise when he single-handedly staged a one-man protest, after he was refused permission to perform at the Thohoyandou shopping centre.

Tshisikule, who is known for his protest music and has churned out hit after hit, had sought permission from the Thulamela Municipality to promote his music in Thohoyandou, but his request was turned down. He said he was not surprised by the municipality’s attitude and he knew that it was a way of silencing him and

preventing him from reaching his fans.

Pushing a wheelbarrow full of CDs, Tshisikule said he had tried to follow the righ procedure, but was told that the town was fully booked. “This confused me as some of the spots for which I had applied were in fact empty. This is just a way of stopping me from reaching out to the masses out there who want to listen to the messages about nondelivery of services,” he said.

Tshisikule, of Zwimandlozini fame, said instead of bowing down in defeat, he felt that he had to do something to please his fans, and that was when

the wheelbarrow idea came about. ‘It really worked; w h e r e v e r I went, people came in their numbers and supported me. I sold a lot of CDs and I made more money than I could do in a normal promotion,” he said.

He said he was worried that, instead of getting rid

of people who were selling pirated music, they refused the owners of music from trading legally. “This is a plot by the municipality, who fear that I will deliver my usual messages which have become like a thorn in the municipality”s fl esh. They know that wherever I sing I pull crowds and I will always be telling them about the municipality’s failure to deliver services,” he said.

“They will not stop me from giving my fans what they need. If needs be, I will sing from the top of trees and buildings if they continue like this. This is my Godgiven talent and no one will take it away from me. All I want to do is to take music to the people,” he said.

Mr Mbulungeni Madi, community services manager at the municipality, said they had a good working relationship with all artists. He said the artists, in conjuction with the municipality, had laid down rules which should be followed when it came to public performances. “We are surprised by Khakhathi’s outbursts as he had not applied but just came and wanted to perfom in town. He must follow the rules and he will be treated like all artists.

“We love him as he is a good singer, but he must respect the rules set out by the municipality and his fellow artists.”

Makhado FM station manager in court

Thanksgiving party for well-known cleric

The station manager of Ma-khado FM, Mr Moses Muneri, is out on bail after he was ar-rested for allegedly stealing a radio transmitter.

He briefly appeared in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday.

Muneri is facing charges of theft. Muneri’s arrest was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Makhado police, Capt Maano Sadike, last Tuesday. The case

was postponed to 26 January and, according to Sadike, Muneri was released on bail of R2 000.

All this resulted in the radio station’s being off the air on 3 and 4 January. This followed after Muneri’s suspension in December last year.

The station’s marketing manager, Mr Takalani Khomola, who is now acting as the station manager, said that the radio had to get a new transmitter which they

were renting at R6 500 a month. “We had to contact a company from Johannesburg to come and install the new transmitter for us,” he said.

Muneri is said to be the prime suspect in the case because he was the only person with the keys to the place where the transmitter was. Makhado FM, however, is still faced with a debt of more than R700 000 which they owe their landlord.

The Tsianda Full Gospel Church at Tsianda recently hosted a thanksgiving party for their pastor. Pastor Prince Ramahala has served the con-gregation for more than 18 years.

Speakers spoke highly of the good work that Ramahala is doing for the church and community.

The chaiperson of the church board, Mr Shandukani Makhuvha, said it had become a tradition at the church to show

appreciation for the good work their pastor is doing.

“As a church, we value what he is doing for us and the community at large. Through him, we have witnessed a lot of developments in the church and many years after he was deployed here, he continues to be of service to us. This is a way of showing our gratitude to him,” he said.

Makhuvha said the gesture of appreciation was meant to encourage him to do even more for the church and the community.

“Hard work needs to be acknowledged and this is one way of saying thank you to him. We always need spiritual guidance,” he said. In response, Ramahala said he felt very humbled by the gesture.

“I am only doing what is expected of me as a man of God. I am not expecting any gratitude from my people. Appreciating me means a lot to me; it shows that people are noticing what I am doing and it motivates me to work even harder,” he said.

“People must stop abusing each other”The Vhembe based organiza-tion, Munna Ndi nnyi? (Who is a real man?) urged women, men and children to stop abusing each other.

The organisation’s chairman, Mr Bardwell Mufunwainwi, addressed a genderbased violence workshop, organised by the Vhembe District Municipality shortly before Christmas last year. It was held in the Mutale Arts and Culture Centre.

“We are worried that many campaigns are only spreading the message that men must stop

abusing women and children. Our organisation is also visited by men who are abused by their wives and children,” said Mufunwainwi.

He suggested that women must in some cases support their husbands financially, so that gender based violence could come to an end. Just a few days ago, Munna Ndi Nnyi claimed it was visited by pensioner, who reported that his son forcefully took his money and left him penniless.

Senior Magistrate Tshifhiwa

Maumela urged men who are abused by their wives and children to come forward to report such cases. “We don’t want men to remain silent when they are abused. They must report it so that the law can deal with the perpetrators,” he added.

One of the participants of the dialogue, a gogo from Tshamdama, mentioned that she is being abused by her grandchildren, who take her money when she receives her pension. “I am sick and tired of being penniless,” said the furious gogo.

Motorists arrested for trying to bribe cops Most wanted suspect finally behind bars

“Work harder for clean audits” - Nombembe

Two motorists were arrested on the spot when they alleg-edly tried to bribe traffic offi-cials who were on duty during a road safety campaign that was held recently on the N1 at Musina.

This happened on separate occasions when the officers were allegedly offered cash while they were enquiring about the roadworthiness of vehicles during the campaign. The officers immediately alerted the police officers, who arrested the culprits.

Mayor Carol Phiri, who was also part of the road safety campaign, praised the dedicated traffic officials for their faithfulness. “We need public servants who will blow the whistle on corruption and bribery. We are very proud of them and we have no doubt that they have set a good example for everyone who fights for good governance. I’m highly impressed by their good actions.”

During her official address just before the campaign, Phiri said the Musina Municipality

The Levubu police have arrested the most wanted, feared and notorious gang leader, Mabidi Ligaraba (27), who had allegedly been terrorising the Tshakhuma community.

It was reported that Ligaraba had been assaulting them, breaking into their houses and taking their belongings by force. The police, who had been looking for him for some time, arrested him at Tshakhuma last week.

The residents, who had threatened to take the law into their own hands if Ligaraba was not arrested, held several community meetings to try and solve the crime problem in the area.

Ligaraba is now facing two counts of rape, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and common robbery.

Confirming Ligaraba’s arrest, Levubu police spokesperson W/O Solly Mukhola said that the police were told that other members of the com

munity were afraid to open cases, fearing that they might be victimised.

“The residents are encouraged to come forward and lay charges if something had happened to them,” he said. He added that those affected should feel free to open cases with the police.

It is believed that the group of gangsters which Ligaraba led is comprised of nine men from Muledane, Tshakhuma, and the Tshisahulu villages.

Ligaraba briefly appeared in the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court last Tuesday and the case was postponed for further investigations.

Auditor-General Terence Nombembe has urged government departments to work hard towards achieving clean audits, saying sound financial management will go a long way in improving public confidence in state institutions.

It was reported by the Government Communication and Information System, BuaNews Online, that Nombembe is currently on a nationwide drive to encourage clean audits by awarding those departments that have consistently received clean audits with trophies. Last Tuesday, he presented a trophy to Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molowa, for her “sound leadership” and for ensuring her department achieved a clean audit in the past financial year.

A similar award will be presented to Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba and the Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor.

Nombembe said noncompliance with laws and regulations and the Public Finance Management

Act was blocking attempts to have unqualified reports for the country. “The only way to ensure that we improve the public’s confidence in public institutions is through the manner in which we manage public funds. By these awards what we want to achieve is more clean audits by government departments,” he said.

Since the accolades were introduced at municipal level several years ago there has been a marked increase in municipalities achieving clean audits. “You go to municipalities in Mpumalanga and Limpopo you see many of them getting clean audits and we think many are getting motivated when they see their peers rewarded for the hard work.”

For the first time this year, the AuditorGeneral began conducting quarterly reviews of government departments, focusing on problem areas identified in preceding reviews in order to give early warning signs of any financial trouble in the public sphere. BuaNews

was happy to join forces with stakeholders to set in motion the common element of providing safety for the people, which marks the beginning of a concerted road safety effort throughout the year.

“Many of us travel to different destinations on our roads on a daily basis. Let’s remember that one life lost is one too many. Road accidents can be avoided and many lives can

be saved. This can only be achieved though initiatives of this nature.

The urgency to deal with issues of road safety effectively and efficiently cannot be overemphasised. We cannot allow the status quo to remain when statistics continue to show us a disturbing trend on our roads. The carnage on our roads is beyond comprehension,” she added.

Mayor Carol Phiri and Chief Whip Simon Madamalala give safety tips to a motorist during the campaign.

A police officer arrests a Zimbabwean motorist who allegedly tried to bribe a traffic official during the road safety campaign at Musina.

Doctorate for hard-working chaplainThere was excitement in the air when a hard-working chaplain, Pastor Maria Mudimeli, who had recently received her doctorate, celebrated the achievement at an event that was held at Grace Missionary Chapel Church at Tshituni-Tshafhasi in the Nzhelele area last week.

The Rambuda family came together to celebrate the new year at a family gathering that was held at Ha-Ramantsha village in the Sinthumule area. The gathering was honoured by the presence of a traditional leader, Chief Vho-Muthuhathonwi Rambuda.

Dr Mudimeli received her doctorate in Systematic Theology from the University of South Africa. She is a chaplain at the South African Police Service in Polokwane and is believed to be the first Venda woman and a woman chaplain to obtain a Doctorate in Systematic Theology.

She hails from the rural village of TshituniTshafhasi in the Nzhelele area.

Her journey in the academic world began in 1994, when she obtained a BAdegree from the Global University in the United States of America. She then worked as a parttime lecturer at the Southern African School of Theology in 1995, before obtaining her master’s degree from the University of Venda.

She also worked at the Sekhukhune College of Education in 1996 and joined the South African Police Services as chaplain in 2002, based at the Makhado SAPS. She moved to Polokwane SAPS in 2009, where she is still working as chaplain.

Dr Mudimeli expressed her appreciation to her family for the upbringing and all the support regarding her achievements.

“Growing up in a disadvantaged family background was not easy, but I am happy that I made it. I thank pastor Rathando, who took me to a Bible School in 1991,” she said.

She added that dedication and commitment were the secrets behind her outstanding achievements. “I thank God for all He has done for me,” said Mudimeli.Pastor (Dr) Maria Mudimeli.

Ntombi’s ambition to succeed ...A crack Limpopo girl, who is wallowing in glory after at-taining seven distinctions in the recent Grade 12 examina-tions, says she knew she would do it, but had not told anyone about her ambitions.

Ntombi Mashila, 17 of Malamulele, who was a Grade 12 pupil at St Brendan Catholic School in Polokwane, attained distinctions in English, Xitsonga, Mathematics, Life Orientation, Geography, Life Sciences and Physical Sciences.

When her mother, Ms Daphne Mashila was asked about her daughter’s achievements said the family was excited. “Although we knew she was one of the top pupils, we never expected such an achievement and she never talked about any distinction,” said Mashila.

When asked why she never prepared her parents for her success she said: ”I knew what I wanted from beginning and every time I read my books I did it with what I wanted in mind.”

She said it never came to her to tell her parents she wanted the distinctions, but she knew they would be happy with her if she achieved them and did the family proud.

Ntombi says she aims to do a degree in engineering either at the University of the Witwatersrand or the Univers i t y o f Pretoria. A devout Christian, Ntombi is a memb e r o f the Baptist Church. “I am someone who sacrifices the time to play to do something serious in life. I give myself much time to read books as well as the time to pray

and praise God,” she said.

33-Year-old killed in bar lounge fight

Two men arrested after death of resident

Two foreigners nabbed for drug dealing

A 33-year-old male was stabbed to death with a knife, alleg-edly by a 16-year-old boy at Mutshinyali Bar Lounge at Tshiozwi village in the Sinthu-mule area. The incident took place on 25 December 2011 at about 01:20.

Immediately after the incident, the victim was rushed to the Tshilwavhusiku Health Centre

for medical attention, but he was certified dead on arrival.

The spokesperson for the Tshilwavhusiku police, Constable Musiwalo Mahuwa, confirmed that a murder case had been opened and that investigations led to the arrest of the suspect in the early hours of Christmas day. “The suspect was consequently charged with

murder,” confirmed Constable Mahuwa. He appeared before the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court on 28 December. The case was then postponed to 6 January 2012. On the 6th the suspect was released under parental supervision. His next appearance is set for 24 January 2012.

The suspect cannot be named since he is still a minor.

Residents of Ha-Mutsha village outside Tshakhuma are still shocked after a local man was beaten to death at the village.

Mr Fhatuwani Magaba (27) was on his way home when the two suspects, Surprise Mugadi (19) and Vhutshilo Netshiongolwe, allegedly started provoking him and then assaulted him severely.

Although the incident happened on Christmas Eve, Magaba died in his hospital bed two weeks ago. W/O Solly Mukhola said the police had opened a case of assault with an intent to cause grievous bodily harm. “The case was later changed to murder, after the victim had passed away,” he said.

He added that the police man

aged to arrest the two suspects the same day of the incident. “They are now facing charges of murder, while the police investigation is still continuing,” Mukhola added. Mugadi and Netshiongolwe briefly appeared in the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court on Monday and the case was postponed to 6 February. They remain in custody.

The suspects, Vhutshilo Netshiongolwe (second from left) and Surprise Mugadi, photographed with W/O Nkoneni Neludane (left) and W/O Solly Mukhola of the Levubu police.

Police in Limpopo have in-tensified their war against drugs dealers and smugglers, resulting in the arrest of two suspects, a Nigerian and a Tanzanian.

In a statement, SAPS spokesperson for Limpopo Lt Col Ronel Otto said that, in the first incident, members from the Hawks in the province received information about a suspect who was supplying drugs in and around Mokopane. They monitored the suspect for some time and on Thursday, 12 January, they moved in on him.

“The 40yearold suspect was arrested at his place of residence in the town after our officers searched his premises and recovered packets of heroine, cocaine rocks, ecstasy tablets, dagga and cocaine powder, all to the value of R350 000. Cash to the value of R142 613 was also confiscated,” she said.

The suspect, who is from Nigeria, is expected to appear

in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court soon. “We are continuing with our investigations and there is a possibility that the suspect might be connected to more incidents of drugrelated crimes,” Otto said.

In the second incident, at Beit Bridge Border Post, a suspect from Tanzania was arrested for the possession of drugs he tried to smuggle into the country. SAPS members on duty at the border post became suspicious of the suspect and when they searched him, they found what appeared to be cocaine wrapped in plastic.

“The suspect was also seen swallowing something, and when he was taken to hospital for Xrays, it was found that more plastic bags were visible in his stomach. The suspect was admitted to Musina Hospital for observation under police guard. The value of the confiscated drugs is yet to be established,” said Otto.

The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo, LtGen Simon Mpembe, stated that this was only the beginning of the fight against drugs in the province.

“Besides the fact that the possession and use of drugs is a criminal act, drug users sometimes resort to committing crime to fund their dependability on the substance and this is one of the aspects that we want to eradicate. I would also like to remind local people that we need support from our communities to help us fight crime. We therefore urge members of the communities to contact the police if they see anything suspicious which might be linked to crime.”

“Just pick up the phone and call our SAPS Provincial Hotline number (0800 765 423) or our crime line number at 08600 10111 where information can be left anonymously,” Mpembe said.

Join the Soutpansberg Astron-omy Club (SAC) in Louis Tri-chardt for an evening of star-gazing on Saturday, 21 Janu-ary, from sunset onwards.

Keen photographers should bring their equipment along. Planets visible in the evening are Venus, Neptune, Uranus and the giant gas planet of the solar system, Jupiter, with its four

Galilean moons. At 19:30, a short presentation

on Jupiter, as well as live video views, will be given.

Some of the deepsky objects that will be projected on a big screen on the evening will include the Great Orion Nebula (M42), Omega Centauri, Crab Nebula (M1), Tarantula Nebula and many others.

The SAC will be operating from new premises and refreshments will be available during the course of the evening. Everyone is welcome and those with telescopes are welcome to bring them along.

More than 1500 trained at P&L

Notice

In an article that appeared in the Mirror at the end of last year it was mentioned that the P&L Hardware Further Education and Training College had already trained 139 young people from various communities and offered them jobs.

The training manager of the college, Mr Charles Skeen, pointed out that since 2007, more than 1 500 new students had been trained, and some 800 of these students were still in P&L Hardware’s employment.

“Racial” attack on pastor’s house

A 22-year-old Zimbabwean, Isaac Sibeko, and a 16-year-old minor appeared briefly in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court last week, charged with robbery and the illegal posses-sion of a firearm.

Their case has been postponed to 20 February and they were not granted bail.

Their appearance is a sequel to an incident which happened on 8 January at about 18:30, when a businessman at Tshivhilwi was attacked and robbed of his 9mm pistol, before the suspects disappeared into the nearest bushes.

According to Major Mashudu

Malelo, Thohoyandou police’s spokesperson, it is alleged the 58yearold victim was busy with customers at his business when he was overpowered. After the incident, police launched an intensive manhunt for the suspects. Their search paid off when, through information from the community, police tracked the wanted men the following day to Vhufuli, where they were hiding. A pistol that was taken during the robbery was found hidden in a nearby mealiefield.

It is believed a third man who also allegedly linked to the

incident fled the scene when he saw the police.

Malelo said the police appreciated the cooperation they received from members of the community, to which he attributed their success and the breakthrough. “We always encourage members of the community to be vigilant in terms of crime and to work with us in combating crime. We know that, together with our communities, we can beat crime,” added Malelo.

He said investigations were still continuing.

The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) says it is happy about the tourism growth in the province, given the high volume of tour-ists who visited the province during the festive season.

According to LTA spokesperson Mr Ntlhekeng Kgatla, it is good news for the province after the launch of the festive campaign last November. He said that the province continued to do well, given its strategic location as a gateway to other African countries.

“This will undoubtedly boost domestic tourism,” he said.

Kgatla said that more than 50 000 visitors made their way through Limpopo Wildlife Resorts (LWR) gates during the month of December. “The same also goes for the private tourism facilities in the province, with most of them receiving very high volumes of tourists in the province, compared to the previous year in the same period. This is a very clear indication that the domestic strategy that was developed for the province is indeed beginning to bear fruit, with more

people beginning to traverse their own province.”

He said that Kruger and Marakele National Parks were still leading the pack as the highest tourist attractions in the province. “High volumes of tourists have also been registered at other facilities such as Forever Resorts at Bela Bela, Swadini and Tshipise. Other private game reserves and lodges, as well as Mapungubwe National Park, which is a renowned World Heritage site, also did very well during the past festive season.”

He added that what fascinated the agency was the high number of bookings for the 4x4 trails through the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Wilderness Camp and Trails, which covers Letaba, Luvuvu and Great Limpopo EcoTrails.

Limpopo Wildlife Resorts (LWR), the commercial wing of Limpopo Tourism Agency, has also seen a significant increase from the 20 663 visitors “who made their way through our gates during the same period last year, who spent in excess of R1.6

million.”According to Kgatla, the five

resorts that were the busiest out of the eleven in the province were Mphephu Resort, Nwanedi Resort, Doorndraai, Acacia and Rust de Winter.

“We are very proud to announce that Limpopo citizens topped the list of visitors to our resorts, followed by Gauteng and Mpumalanga. Interesting again is the increased visits by tourists from SADC countries to our resorts during the festive period.” Kgatla said that during this season, they realised that day visits had become a very popular phenomenon with local citizens, hence the increased figure.

“The visits mostly happen during the holidays and weekends. This has been one of the most fruitful and successful festive seasons that we have had in many years. We wish to also put it on record that there has not been any incident reported in our resorts this festive season. On this note, we wish to thank the service sector for servicing the industry with distinction,”Kgatla continued.

Following their 1-2 defeat at the hands of Giyani Hotspurs at the Giyani Stadium last Sat-urday, Basel FC are set to make Winners Park pay for their defeat. They will meet in their Vodacom Promotional League match at the Malamulele Sta-dium tomorrow afternoon.

The defeat was the first for Basel under the watchful eyes of Mr Justice Mtileni, who joined the club three months ago. The defence of Winners Park must contain the Basel speedy forward, Jafta Mabosho, or else they will be humiliated.

Phungo All Stars are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations for their home match Magezi FC. It will be time for the former coach of Phungo All Stars, Mr Patrick Mulaudzi, to show his former employers that they committed a suicidal blunder by letting him go.

The logleaders, Baroka FC, will rub shoulders with Rospa United FC at the Jane Furse Stadium.

The Polokwane derby between Super Eagles and Mighty FC will be staged at the Seshego Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Fanang

Diatla FC will be lucky if they manage to hold Giyani Hotspurs to a draw. Although it will be an away fixture for them, Hotspurs are not easy to beat of late. Nobela All Stars will be away to fight for more points against Lephalale Young Killers. They will meet at the Mogol Stadium in Lephalale. Blue Rocks will entertain Dinare FC at the Moloto Stadium in Polokwane.

Modimolle Aces, who beat Rospa United 20 at the Tshifulanani Stadium last Saturday, will host The Dolphins at the Ephraim Mohale Stadium in Modimolle.

The New Year arrived with an unpleasant surprise for Miss Sarah Mamburu of Louis Tri-chardt. She woke up to discover that her gate had been vandal-ized, presumably by a group of youngsters.

Mamburu discovered the writing on the gate early in the morning when she was preparing to go to a church service.

“I drove out and pressed my remote to lock the gate. When I looked back to make sure that the gate was really closed, I was shocked to see that someone had sprayed letters on my gate,”

said Mamburu. “The police later asked me whether I’m a politician, but I am not. I am a pastor. I vote like any other person and I’m not associated with any politician. I don’t understand why these people would choose to spray my gate,” she said.

The culprits did not only spray Miss Mamburu’s gate, they also sprayed stop signs in the nearby streets. Miss Mamburu’s gate was sprayed two lines of letters, spelling AWEE and AWB.

Mamburu suspects that it might be because she is the only black person staying in that block in

Joubert Street.“We once had our electricity

switched off from the outside electric box. This only happened to my house and to the other black owner on another block,” she said.

Mamburu said that she had reported the matter to the police, who responded to her call. However, a case had not yet been opened by 10 January. The provincial spokesperson for the SAPS, LtCol Ronel Otto, this week confirmed that a case had been opened and that the police are investigating.

Isaac Sibeko, who is alleged to have robbed a local businessman.

Assistant referee allegedly assaulted

A s s i s t a n t r e f e r e e George Musekwa was allegedly assaulted.

Another assistant referee, Mr George Musekwa, was allegedly assaulted with fi sts when violence broke out towards the end of the match between Western Stars and Tshifhire Northern Brothers at the Madombidzha sports grounds a fortnight ago.

The score was 10 in favour of Brothers, with only a few minutes to go, when violence broke out.

According to the referee's report, Musekwa had raised his fl ag for an

offside and immediately after that, the goalkeeper of Stars allegedly punched him in his face with a fi st. Chaos then broke out when the Stars' fans stormed onto the fi eld to support their players, who were allegedly busy assaulting assistant referee Musekwa. They allegedly protested that he should not have raised a fl ag for an offside. More people came forward to assault him until he ran away for protection to a nearby house.

According to Musekwa, the angry Stars players would have killed him, had it not been for the offi cials of Brothers. The Stars players were demanding a goal, while Musekwa said the goal was scored from an offside position. The chairperson of the Safa Vhembe competition committee, Mr Mulimisi Muneri, said they were concerned about the incident. "As a league, we want players to use soccer as a form of entertainment and create friendship with each other. Western Stars will be called to appear before the disciplinary committee and they will be charged for abandonment of the game and assaulting the referee."

Two people from Tejehanga and Matawani villages out-side Beit Bridge were killed by lightning in two separate incidents last week, while an 18-month-old baby escaped with serious burns.

The local police spokesperson, Insp Tafanana Dzirutwe, confi rmed the two deaths, which occurred on Friday and Saturday last week.

Dzirutwe said in the fi rst case, which occurred at around 16:00,

a 20 yearold woman, Gertrude Ndlovu of Tejehanga village, was walking home from the grazing lands with her 18monthold baby strapped on her back. Along the way, it started raining and the two were struck by lightning. Ndlovu died on the spot while the infant sustained some serious burns all over the body.

In a similar incident the following day, an 18yearold man was killed by lightning at Matawani Business Centre. Notice

Moyo had gone to the business centre to buy some groceries. Dzirutwe said the victim was on his way back home and decided to pass through one of the toilets at the business centre when he was struck by lightning and died instantly. "As police we want to urge people to always rely on advice we get from lightning experts that they should avoid being in open spaces to avoid some of these incidents," said the police spokesperson.

Leopards coach back from honeymoon

“Musangwe is here to stay” - Ndevana

Black Leopards coach Mr Vladislav Heric believes he is a refreshed man after taking advantage of the festive holidays to enjoy his honeymoon with his new wife.

Earlier this week, Heric said that he had tied the knot last April. According to him, he and his wife could not go on honeymoon after the wedding, due to pressing work commitments. He further stated that they spent three weeks on honeymoon in Cape Town.

“If you are in situation where I am with my team, you really need a good holiday, and thank God I have had one,” he said in acknowledgment of Leopards’ position on the log and the quality time that he spent with his wife over the festive season.

Heric said that he will resume his work freshened up and promised the team’s fans that they will see a brand new team when the second round of activities for the Premier Soccer League start middle of next month.

Heric stated that he could not go to his home country, Serbia, during the festive season because of his honeymoon. Heric said that he would soon

meet the management of the team and explain to them the need for a fitness trainer in the team. He revealed that most of the matches his team lost were purely as a result of lack of fitness on the part of the players. “I will hear from the club, but I desperately need a fitness trainer to work with the team. We have almost a solid month before we play

Mr Vladislav Heric.

in the league again and in that time we need to have someone with fitness training expertise,” said Heric.

Black Leopards are currently lying in the second last position on the log, with 10 points accumulated from 15 outings. Their first secondround match will be against Orlando Pirates, to whom they lost 02 in their opening match of the season.

Teach them young: Musangwe president Poison Ndevana supervises two youngsters who acted as curtain raisers during the event. Ndevana says no one will stop them from continuing with the sport. He says the young fighters are part of the development of the sport.

Musangwe, or bare-knuckle fighting, has be-come part of the lives of the rural communities mostly in the Vhembe region.

One such community where the sport has manifested itself is TshifudiGaba outside Thohoyandou. During the festive holidays, men as well as a few young boys spend much of their time at a secluded spot where men take turns in challenging others for a fistfight. The sport is now the inthing in the area and has become so popular that it has become a big crowd puller of even prominent people in the community. The past festive season was no exception. The president of Musangwe, Mr Tshilidzi Poison Ndevana, vowed that the sport is here to stay, saying no one will stop them from practising what he terms Venda culture. “Bareknuckle fighting has been part of our lives since the 18th century and we are not prepared to trade it for anything,” he said.

He feels the sport builds men to be responsible beings who know how to take care of their families. “This is a sport that teaches us respect and all the aspects of manhood and we will continue doing this as part of our culture like other nationalities do,” he said. To show that he is determined not to see the sport fade away, he has started a development team comprising small boys who are being moulded into future stars.

During Mirror’s visit, the boys were busy picking each other for fights, preparing the ground for the older fighters who were to battle it out for

the championship. “We are busy preparing for the future. These boys are our future champions and we are serious about this sport, so we have to start from an early age,” he said.

He said even if the boys could be seen to be excelling, it was not an automatic permit for them to fight older people. “We have different age groups and they have to wait to be of age to fight those in their age groups. There is order in this sport and one thing we encourage is respect for the elderly,” he said. Ndevana said the commercialization of the sport nearly killed their game. “This is a game not for gain. We are not saying that we do not accept sponsorships, but those who want to make money could do so at open venues like stadiums and halls where people will pay. Here we fight for free and this is the reason why we do not allow women here as this is a closely guarded tradition,” he said.

Khumbula Young Destroyers were crowned the champions of the annual Zama Zama Soc-cer Challenge last Saturday.

They beat Giyani All Stars 54 in the final of the competition at the Giyani Homu 14 ground.

The winner was determined through penalty shootout, after the teams played to a 11 fulltime score.

Khumbula All Stars were presented with R10 000, a floating

trophy and gold medals during a ceremony that was held at the ground immediately after the final. Giyani All Stars received R5 000 and silver medals. The third and fourthplaced teams, Khumbula Masters and Fighters, received R2 500 each.

The four teams that were booted out in the quarterfinal stage, Juluka Benfica, Blue Birds, Golden City and Liverpool, received a consolation prize of R1 000 each.

Several players were presented with individual awards for their outstanding performances during the tournament. The top goal scorer (Akani Banda of Giyani All Stars), best goalkeeper (Matimba Shimange of Giyani All Stars) and player of the tournament (Vutivi Mabunda of Giyani All Stars) were each presented with trophies. The best coach of the tournament, Mr Goodman Mathebula, of Khumbula Young Destroyers, was also presented with a trophy.

Khakhala Netball Club were the champions of the tournament in the netball category. They were presented with a floating trophy and gold medals.

Some of the businesses and individual who sponsored the tournament include Dr Yuza Moses Chabalala, Dr Godfrey Maringa, Mr Slings Thulani Mabunda, Mr Casper Mbombi and Giyani Spar.

The trophies at stake were displayed shortly before the kick off or the final.

Vhembe’s self-made photographer

Self-made photographer, Khathu Tshivhase.

A camera that she won in a competition of the SABC completely changed her life and she is now carving a bright future for her-self.

Khathu Tshivhase,

known to many as Muswa Wa Roma of Matanda outside Thohoyandou, studied for a diploma in commerce, but never practiced her trade after being swallowed by the photographic bug.

It started in 2008 when she entered a competition that was run by SABC’s PhalaPhala FM, where the prize was a camera. Little did she not know that by winning the competition it was to change her life and career path.

She is today one of the few women photographers who are making an impact in the male dominated terrain in Vhembe.

Tshivhase has become a regular face at weddings, funerals, parties and other functions where she would be seen doing what she likes best, taking photos and videos.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would one day be hired to cover functions. I never imagined myself standing in front of people holding a big camera. Winning my small camera changed my life,” she said.

She added that her late brother, who was a wellknown photographer, taught her the ropes and over the years she worked hard at mastering the trade. “When I started, people would hire me just to fi nd out if I would be able to do the job. After giving them the best, they would recommend me to others and my client base increased,” she said.

She said the business is able to provide food for herself and her family.

Police to investigate “barbaric attack”

Hard-earned victory for Young Santos

Stars hold Gogobole Bucs to a draw

The players of Madombidzha Western Stars were allegedly attacked after a Safa Vhembe SAB league match against Zamenkomste United Broth-ers, which was played at the Zamenkomste grounds on Saturday.

The match ended 21 in favour of Brothers.

According to the PRO of Stars, Mr Ronny Muthambi, after the game there was unruly and barbaric behaviour, “instigated by hooligans who are said to be fans of Brothers.” Muthambi said angry people from Zamenkomste hurled stones at the vehicle of the Stars.

“One man came when our players were undressing after the match and went straight to our player Percy Munonoka,” Muthambi said. “This man beat Munonoka with a stone in the face and he was seriously injured. Other people joined

him and fought against our players.”

Mr Zane Mamafha of United Brothers expressed regret about the incident and apologised to Stars and the league. He claims that the perpetrators are not fans of the club. “The hooligans are not supporters of our team,” Mamafha said. He said the persons who started to fight with Stars players “are our rival team, Zamenkomste Liverpool players”. A spokesperson for the Tshilwavhusiku SAPS, Const Musiwalo Mahuwa, said two players of Stars, Percy Munonoka (25) and Lufuno Ndou (23), were arrested on Saturday and released with a warning on Sunday for allegedly assaulting a Brothers fan.

Munonoka also opened a case of assault against Nathaniel Makhudzha, who was arrested on Sunday. The three were supposed to have appeared in

Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court on Monday. They reached a settlement out of the court and the cases were withdrawn.

According to Safa Vhembe President Mr George Kubayi, the home team had the responsibility of making sure that the visiting team and the referee were protected inside and outside the grounds. He condemned the unbecoming behaviour by the fans of Brothers.

A goal by Thifhel imbilu Kharivhe in the 78th minute was good enough to earn Mukula Young Santos three significant points at the ex-pense of Phandulaluvalo FC in their SAB League match at the Mukula Tshidzani-tsha-Maria grounds on Sunday afternoon.

It was the last league match for Santos’ centre back, Nkhiphitheni Ramukumba. Although he is retiring as a player, Ramukumba will not be forgotten in football as he is to pursue a career in football coaching.

Both sides displayed attacking football in the first half and thus made the game more entertaining. Phandulaluvalo had their first regret in the ninth minute. Robert Mbedzi fumbled at the goal finish after beating the offside trap.

Freddy Ratshilumela of Young Santos thought he was clever enough to cheat the referee when he pulled Robert Mbedzi from behind. He was proved wrong when the referee wasted no time in producing a yellow card. The other Santos

player who was cautioned before the teams adjourned for half time was Ndateni Netshitadi. His sin was faking an injury. The referee instructed Netshitadi to get up on his feet, before cautioning him.

Phandulaluvalo introduced two new faces in the last half, but the move was not good enough to put pressure on the opponents.

Phandulaluvalo fought the last 15 minutes with only 10 men, as Robert Mbedzi was given his marching orders for a continued argument with the referee. Santos capitalised on the setback and scored their muchawaited goal via Thifhelimbilu Kharivhe. He blasted in a rocket after a scramble within the box.

Madodonga TAB All Stars held Gogobole Bucs to 2-all draw in a Limpopo Dairy soccer match at the Gogobole grounds on Sunday.

Bucs should have opened their account in the seventh minute. Lufuno Maphaha dribbled past two Stars defenders in a row and the keeper, Vhutshilo Manthada, saved the ball. The team from Kutama should have scored a little later. Peter Ramaano shot wide, with only the keeper to beat.

Stars opened the scoreline, when Tshikudo Cheune received a neat pass from Ndamulelo Mathoma and hit the target.

Their celebrations were cut short, as the home team’s striker, Tshimomo Mbambo, received a wellcooked pass and scored freely to make the score 11.

Bucs continued to fight like an organised team. Two players who were cautioned with cards for rough tackling were Nyengedzo Davhana and Able Rambuda.

Bucs’ Abel Rambuda blasted in a loose ball after a scramble within the box to make the score 21.

Stars replaced Matevhu Mufamadi and Lucky Ndadza with Godfrey Ramabubuda and Innocent Masipa late in the game. That proved to be a clever move on the part of the Stars technical side. Their equaliser came in the 87th minute. Vhahangwele Maiswashe dribbled past two defenders in a row

Western Stars player Percy Munonoka, who was allegedly assaulted after the match.

The coach of Santos, Mr Taylor Nevhutanda, congratulates his team’s goal scorer, Thifhelimbilu Kharivhe.

and passed the ball to unmarked Ndanduleni Nthangeni, who scored easily.

Bucs’ Thomas Mhlongo controls the ball.

Mashudu Mashapha of United hinders Freddy Tholo of Aces from reaching the ball.

Hundreds of supporters for Rospa United, who watched their team’s game against Modimolle Aces at the Tshifulanani Stadium last Saturday, left the stadium with sore hearts, fol-lowing their team’s 0-2 defeat.

Although United’s slender striker, Mashudu Mashapha, was out of touch, the team’s technical staff allowed him to play for the whole match. Mashapha demonstrated to everyone that it was not his day when he caused an upset in the 14th minute. He dispossessed an Aces defender and shot astray from the edge of the box, much

to the disappointment of the team’s fans.

The referee, Mr Jelly Chavani, remained silent at the time when everyone thought he would award United an indirect free kick outside the box. This was after Mashudu Mashapha was brought down. Realising that the referee was not concerned about the infringement, Meshack Maphangule approached him angrily,

accusing him of favouritism. He was reprimanded with a yellow card.

The game lost its original tempo towards the end of the fi rst half. The second half saw the visitors from the Waterberg District play more attacking football. They scored their fi rst goal in the 67th minute. Their Rastafarian mid

fi elder, Johannes Monene, made a sharp turn after receiving a neat pass from Patrick

Nkomo and unleashed a

ground cutter. Mashudu Mashapha of United missed

another fortune in

the 74th minute. His half volley hit the side net with the

keeper already beaten. Carswell Mabasa of United left the pitch after sustaining an injury. He was replaced with Isaac Makhuvha. Aces increased the margin through Freddy Hlongwane. He

capitalised on Ntsieni Makhado’s clearing error and scored an easy goal in the

dying minutes.

Another humiliation for Rospa United FC
