FR. ADRIANS CORNER
Our Mens Prayer and Discernment Group seems tohave fallen by the wayside. I think this is because of
all the happenings at the Mission with the arrival of
the Franciscan School of Theology. Br. Christopher
and I want to connue this wonderful group which
meets on the 3rd
Wednesday of every month. There-
fore, we will be back on track with our Mens Discern-
ment Group on Wednesday 20 November at the St.Francis Room in the Mission. Men over 21 are wel-
come to come at 7:00 p.m. when we read some scrip-
ture and share faith in a relaxed and enjoyable envi-
ronment ll 9:00 p.m. Come through the black gate at
the Mission and go directly to the St. Francis Room
which is located close to the large statue of St. Francis
in the quadrangle. Youll be very welcome.
It looks like our Parish Pilgrimage to Rome and the
Franciscan Holy Places is about to get underway atlong last. We hope to take a group in October 2014for ten days. There is a pilgrimage meeng planned
for Wednesday October 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the ParishDining Room we will have a slide-show presentaon,
and later in the evening Wendy Brophy will give de-
tails of cost, etc. There is no obligaon to aend the
pilgrimage when you come for the informaon-night
on October 30. If you are simply curious about the trip
and want to know more please come along for an
hour and enjoy our presentaon. Our plan at this
stage is to be in Italy from the 12 to the 22 October2014. We will visit Rome and aend an audience with
Pope Francis, celebrate Mass at the Irish Franciscan
College of S. Isidoro, visit the basilicas and famous
sights in the Eternal City before heading to Greccio
where St. Francis made the first crib and the shrine of
Fonte Colombo where he wrote the Rule of the Order
and lived as a hermit. Then its on to Assisi and days of
pilgrimage at the tombs of St. Francis and St. Clare,
taking in visits to the great churches and chapels asso-
ciated with St. Francis; the Porziuncola, San Damiano,
the Basilica of St. Francis, St. Clares Church whichhouses the original San Damiano Cross, and more.
Then its off to Florence and Siena to visit two of Ita-
lys most stunning cies before returning home via
Rome. I look forward very much to taking pilgrims
from our parish to these holy places I have known
very well since my youth when I was a student-friar in
Italy.
We will be commemorang the Faithful Departed on
All Souls which falls on November 2. There will be aspecial Mass at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Serra
Center and immediately thereaer the tradional
blessing of graves in the Mission Cemetery.
All ministries, both English-speaking and Spanish-
speaking, are invited to build altars in the grounds of
the parish for November 2. You may coordinate your
altar-building with Fr. Arturo who is delighted to assist
you in any way.
Have a wonderful and blessed week.
Fr. Adrian

HELPING TO DONATE A BIBLE AND ACATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
Our parish community each year wel-
comes adults into the RCIA program. One
of the key elements of their catechesis is
coming to know the Scriptures, the word of
God, on a weekly basis. Adults new to the
Catholic Faith or returning to the Faith have
quesons that need the catechism for reference in class.
A donaon of $20.00, or of any amount, would help
us purchase these books. Your help would be appreciat-
ed.
If you wish to give, you may make a donaon at the
Parish Office, or drop it into the collecon in an envelope
marked Bibles. If you have any queson, please call
Mary Dorso at 760-547-0755
SOCIAL CONCERNS ANNUAL THANKSGIVING ANDCHRISTMAS FOOD BASKET DRIVE
Our calendar this year places these
holidays rather close and so we are asking
for help on both at once. Please sponsor an
enre family, or however much you can
afford, for a generous Thanksgiving and
Christmas Food basket at $40.00 per family. The Basket will include everything necessary for a beau-ful holiday dinner. We also accept any donaons of tur-
keys, hams, and other holiday goodies, and canned
goods. We greatly appreciate that you check your cans
and eliminate all outdated, rusted, or dented cans.
Please bring your donaons directly to the Social
Concerns Department in the Loreo House, across from
the McKeon Center during normal Parish business hours.
Thank you so much for your generosity.
Thank you all,
Carmen Parra, Social Concerns:760-547-0708
