    February 24, 2013 - Second Sunday of Lent | 3

    FROM FR. ADRIAN

Two weeks ago I wrote in praise of our Music Ministry at theParish. Last week we had the surprise of the Holy Fathersdecision to step down from the Ministry of St. Peter, and Iwanted to put something in the parish Bullen from Pope Ben-edict as we mark this historic event for the Church. This week Iwould like to return to the Music Ministry and say somethingabout the remarkable development in the quality of liturgicalmusic in the Hispanic Community. In parcular to say thankson behalf of us all for the hard work and dedicaon of every-one involved.

I think its fair to say that the music ministry in the Hispanic

Community has gone from strength to strength in the last twoyears. This is in part due to the encouragement and hard workof Lupe Rios, but also because we have some wonderful anddedicated people who have made this transformaon possible. Therefore I would like to thank the following: Gregorio, Carlos,Javier, Salvador, Maritza, Alfredo, their choirs and all who sup-port them in this ministry.

Our Parish retreat is beginning on March 3rd

and connuingall through the week in the Parish Chapel beginning each even-ing at 7:00. It will consist of Mass and homily on the theme,The Year of Faith. Please see the insert to this weeks Bullenfor more details. Our preacher is Bishop Michael Lenihan, OFMof La Ceiba, Honduras, who is an Irish Franciscan. Bishop Mi-chael has worked in Central America for 30 yrs. in El Salvador,

Guatemala and Honduras. I know you will give him a warm SanLuis Rey welcome on his arrival at the end of February.

Lent is a season of penance and reconciliaon in the Church. We are urged to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliaon aspart of the Lenten journey, to search our hearts and confessour sins, and so allow the grace of Gods loving-mercy to re-new us and bring us home to our true selves. The Parish willhold two Reconciliaon Services in March, one on March 9that 10:00 a.m. and another on March 19th at7:00 p.m. All areencouraged to come to confession during Lent it seems par-cularly appropriate as we focus more intently on our relaon-ship with the Lord.

We look forward to the return of the Samoan Choir to Sun-day Mass. Many of the choir members have suffered with theflu and as a consequence we have not heard their beaufulvoices at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday for some me. We wish eachand all a good recovery and speedy return.

Please pray for our Youth Ministry at the parish and for Na-than McWeeney as he works hard to grow this ministry withour young men and women. Passing on the faith is our great-est responsibility as Catholics, and therefore we need theprayerful support of the whole parish, and in parcular of par-ents. Unless faith is modeled at home, first and foremost, itmay not take root in the hearts of our young people. With a

very secular, individualisc and relave atmosphere about us,the anchor of faith with its Gospel values is a sure foundaonfor the flowering of the human person; Gods design for us.Let us rouse ourselves and help our young people to embracea relaonship with Jesus Christ and the joy He brings. And fi-nally, a prayer for Lent:

Let us pray, for all those who are in great difficulty

for those who have lost their faithin humanity and love, their faith in God,

for those who seek truth but cannotfind it.Let us pray for all married people

who have dried apart from each otherand for all priests who have broken down

under the strain of their officeLet us pray

for the town we live and work in,for all the people in it who are lonely,

for those whose voices are never heardand those who find no friends.

Let us pray for the homeless and those without shelterand for all who are disheartened

and feel that they have been betrayed

Let us ask the Lord for forgivenessfor the suffering we have caused others, for our forgeulness and neglect of others,

for our lack of understanding for each other, for speaking ill of other people, and for the bierness and spitewe so oen feel toward others, for not being able to forgive.

May Lent connue to be for you a blessed and fruiul me,

and may you come to know the nearness of God. Fr. Adrian.

Vamos a despertar nosotros mis-

bendecido y frucfero, y puedan llegar a conocer

    la cercana de Dios.

    Padre Adrian
