DISCIPLESHIP AND WEALTH Sometimes we get the idea that having material wealth is a bad thing. We may convince ourselves that it is the poor who are favored. In today’s readings, we discover that material wealth alone does not keep us from discipleship. Gospel Reflection: Today’s Gospel has a few key phrases. Focus family attention around these two: “sell what you have” and “follow me.” Do we simply say we want to follow Jesus because it seems like the right thing to do, but then pull away when we have to do the hard work of sacrificing our wants? Following Jesus demands that we choose not to be possessed by things, but by Jesus himself. To be possessed by Jesus, we must even give up our greatest possession of all: our very selves

What’s Ahead in R.E. Classes? CLASSES RESUME THIS WEEK!!! Teaching Touching Safety Program will be taught in all R.E. classes beginning the week of October 18. Permission forms for this program will be handed out in class. Please sign the forms and return to your child’s teacher.

Any child without a permission form on record, will NOT be admitted to the class. Home Study families must notify office if your child will attend a regular class session that week or if you will teach materials at home. For questions about this program, call Nancy Nazarian-Medina, DRE at 661.252.6950. Respect Life Week is October 26-30. Activities in classes will focus on the beauty of God’s creations and supporting our call as Catholic Christians to support the dignity of all human life.

Eucharistic Adoration for 1st and 6th grade families. Spend time with Jesus on Friday afternoons for 10-15 minutes or more from 4PM-7PM in the Chapel. Don’t forget to sign the R.E. Chapel Guest Book! Guides on Eucharistic Adoration will be given out during classes.

Meet 2nd grade R. E. teacher – Missy Kidd! Mrs. Kidd is currently in her 17th year as a volunteer cate-chist for St. Clare’s R. E. Program. For many years, Mrs. Kidd has taught the 2nd grade sacramental preparation class getting the children ready to receive their 1st Holy Com-munion. In this capacity, Mrs. Kidd has organized many retreats for families and has been instrumental in oversee-ing 1st Communion Masses. In addition, Mrs. Kidd is a known face around St. Clare because of her involvement helping out at church whenever needed. When asked what motivates her to continue in the ministry of education, Mrs. Kidd states, “I hope my students leave my class with a spark in their hearts that is ready to ignite when they are ready for it. I hope when they are ready to fully embrace their faith they will remember what they learned in my classroom.” We know that many young children grew in their faith be-cause of Mrs. Kidd’s generous way of sharing her own love for Christ. Thank you for continuing to spark that in today’s 2nd grade class!

Bring a friend! This event is open to all 7thAnd 8th grade students in Santa Clarita.

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Rachel’s Vineyard Weekend Retreat (for healing after abortion)

Rachel’s Vineyard is a safe place to renew, rebuild and redeem hearts broken by abortion. Weekend retreats offer a supportive, confidential and non-judgmental environment. Rachel’s Vineyard facilitates an experience of God’s com-passion on a profound level. It creates a place where you can share, often for the first time, your deepest feeling about abortion. Troubling secrets are allowed to be dismantled in an environment of emotional healing and spirituality. Rachel’s Vineyard is therapy for the soul. Participants who have been trapped in anger toward themselves or others, experience forgiveness. Peace is found. Lives are re-stored. A sense of hope is rediscovered.
