SCHOOL NOTES……..

Isn’t it amazing the transforma on that can take place on the grounds of our Parish in a single day! The week of July 7th – 13th is a perfect example of the crea ve ener-gy that surrounds Mission San Luis Rey Parish. Thursday, July 10th, marked the beginning of a “flurry” of ac vity; many were on hand to begin the enormous task of se ng up the environment for CHRISTMAS IN JULY, OLD MISSION MONTESSORI SCHOOL’S largest fundraising event and our 37th year of perfec ng this community event, one that is essen al to the school’s opera on! This longstanding fundraiser has served our community well and con nues to provide income for the opera on of the school to help offset tui on costs. We recognize the sacrifice parents and grandparents provide in support of their child’s con nua on at our Parish Catholic School.

This 37th year we were very blessed to not only have the required support of current parents, but also dedicat-ed Marines who gave of their me to sa sfy a variety of needs, plus OMMS faculty and staff, MSLRP staff, minis-tries and Boy Scouts Troop 721, and even former parents who no longer have children a ending OMMS! These groups and individuals came to a end, then became aware we needed help so instead they volunteered their

me bolstering our resources to ensure a successful CHRISTMAS IN JULY, a treasured community event.

Our Parish community began gathering gently used treasures to add to the dona ons for Sister Gladys’ Rum-mage Booth. They then searched through their jewelry boxes to donate their “bling” for the highly an cipated, special jewelry sec on of Sister Gladys’ Booth. Zophia Dyblie, Kirsten Ferguson-Boucher, and Ann McKinnell, our Jewelry Booth chairs, then assisted all at the fair to find just the right “bling” to purchase to help sa sfy their desire for jewelry. With many thanks to our generous community we were able to showcase many beau ful pieces so all who shopped le with a few more treasures to place within their own jewelry box!

Collec vely we acknowledge the true gi that our wonderful parents, grandparents and parishioners provide; a gi that benefits every child who a ends our parish school now and into the future. We are indeed grateful and indebted to all, for this gi of me, talent, and treasure, as our school would not be the same without YOU!

At the close of the weekend on Sunday and long a er the sun departed for the day many, hands and feet went into returning the normal landscape to our school and

parish grounds.....what goes up must come down as the saying goes, but this is the result of a labor of love in-stead of gravity! Many, many thanks to everyone espe-cially those who return year a er year to add a dona on or two, lend a hand or just browse, shop and socialize, but are always there in support and ready to offer addi-

onal help if needed! The dust has finally se led from our 37th annual event and GOD willing we will return next year for our 38th CHRISTMAS IN JULY to once again trans-form the landscape of our parish grounds!

With gra tude, Wanda

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
