Bangalore Beat Bureau Bangalore: Chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda today made it clear that he would con- test the legislative council elections that will ensure his continuation as chief minis- ter. “I am filing my nomination papers on Monday at 10.45 am. A host of ministers, par- ty president (K S Eshwarappa), former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and others will ac- company me,” he said, while offering floral tributes to the statue of former chief minis- ter S Nijalingappa on his 109th birth an- niversary. On independent MLA B Sriramulu’s plans of launching a new party, he said, “I wish all those who want to start a new party. But any new political party should not indulge in ac- tivities that put the interest of the country in danger. They should work with the nation- al interest in mind.” Yesterday, Sriramulu had announced that he would support a candidate backed by the JD(S) and Congress and would defeat Sadananda Gowda in the council elections. He had also claimed the support of 22 BJP MLAs for his party. If these MLAs vote against the Sadananda Gowda, then he is likely to lose. In a House of 224, the BJP has 119 mem- bers. If these MLAs back opposition candi- dates, then it would reduce to minority. Sources close to developments told Ban- galore Beat that the JD(S) and Congress are in talks to choose a consensus candidate to defeat Gowda. The candidate is likely to be from the Congress who would be backed by the JD(S). It is learnt that the Congress has al- ready shortlisted three names, one of whom would be fielded for the lone MLC seat. The election will take place on Dec 22. CM: TO CONTEST FOR MLC SEAT Series win in Australia is benchmark: Dravid Mumbai: Rahul Dravid has admitted the form he has been in during 2011 has set him up strongly for a final tour to Australia, where India are set to play four Tests against a different-looking home side than they have encountered in the past. Confident of India's chances against an Australian side cop- ing with injuries and under an inexperienced leader in Michael Clarke, Dravid said a series win would fulfill a burning desire. "In terms of personal satisfaction in terms of bat- ting, yes I am very happy. I got more runs in 2002 but that seems so far away, so [I] can't even re- member what it was like," he told CNN-IBN's sports editor Gaurav Kalra in a free-wheeling interview. "I think some of the runs that I got this year clas- sify as what you call 'tough runs'. They were in pret- ty tough conditions when the team needed it. So, in that sense, I do feel this was one of my better years personally as a player. Obviously the tour of England was disappointment. From that point of view it was disappointing, but from a personal view this year probably is among the best that I have had." Dravid goes into the four Test series in the mid- dle of a golden run; he has scored 1,067 runs this calendar year including five centuries. Asked whether felt he was in the same mental frame as when he toured Australia in 2003-03 – he came off a career-best run in 2002 and was averaging 78.25 in 2003 before travelling to Australia – Dravid felt the runs accumulated in 2011 had definitely set him up for a tough tour. "Runs behind you don't necessarily translate into runs in the future but what I can definitely say is that I go there in a good space. I feel have been hit- ting the ball well," he said. "I feel quit relaxed when around the group and in the team and am com- fortable with the contributions that I am making. I think it's a good time to be travelling. Dravid has been part of series wins in Pakistan, the West Indies, England and New Zealand, but a series win in Australia has been elusive. In his own words, a series win there would be the benchmark for players of his generation. "Australia is the bench- mark, definitely. They had some absolute legends and still have some great players, and they have been the kind of team that you set your mark against. It would definitely be special to go and do well there." Despite the loss of some of the legends he men- tioned, as well as a host of injury concerns, Dravid reckoned this current Australian side would be a challenge. "I still think they are a good side. I know they don't have the big names they had in the past, but they have got some emerging play- ers, some good young players. You can clearly see that they have got a lot of potential and any Aus- tralian team is going to hard to beat on home soil.” AMRI directors to appear before court Kolkata: Civic authorities on Saturday sealed two blocks of the fire-ravaged private AMRI Hos- pital here even as authorities handed over majority of the bod- ies of the 90 people killed to their relatives. The post-mortem of 87 of the total 90 persons choked to death on Friday was completed last night and the autopsy of the rest three would be done during the day, police said. The police, how- ever, did not give the number of bodies handed over to their fam- ilies. All the seven directors of the hospital had surrendered to the police on Saturday and were lat- er arrested for culpable homicide and negligence. They would be produced before the court during the day. Family members of 65-year-old Bangladesh resident Gouranga Mondal, who was among the victims, have reached the morgue to receive his body. Mon- dal’s body would be flown to his country, the police said. The body of a resident of Tripura would also be handed over to his family on Saturday.
