vehicle. This permit is self adhesive andneeds to be easily visible on the frontwindscreen.

The parking disc will show the vehicleregistration number. If more than one vehicleis used for delivery and or collection, then

further permits will beissued. Maximum parkingtime will be restricted to twohours at any one time for allusers between the hours of0700 to 1800 hrs Monday toFriday. Blue Badge holderswill be allowed free parking. Please register details withthe Association, and displaythe Blue Badge whilstparking. Fees for residentshiring the hall will include alevy for car park use.

No parking is allowed onthe double yellow lines or

the grass verges. As with most car parks, aparking space is not guaranteed. Due to thecost involved there is no intention to markout individual car parking spaces with whitelines.

Commuter parking is not allowed underany circumstances. Policing of the car parkwill be carried out by Association staff.People repeatedly using the car park withouta permit will be warned and then fined.

I wish to emphasize that this is a pilotscheme which will be reviewed at the end ofthe year. No doubt there will be anomalies inthe scheme and individual cases will beassessed. We think that most users of our private carpark will appreciate the reasons for thisaction and hope that this small levy of £1per week will not be seen as excessive. For

years the HWA has accommodated allvisitors to the car park free of charge but it is now clear that unless we managethe car park properly, prevent its use by commuters and raise some regularincome for repairs then future irreversibledeterioration in the car park will beinevitable.Graham Sharp.Chairman and Trustee of the HadleyWood Association

The Hadley Wood Association hasupgraded it’s car park. This work came at aconsiderable cost (£45000) which we as asmall village hall could never have raisedwithout using the donatedremains of the ParkwayFund and with help fromEnfield council. Ourconcern now is how futurerepairs will be paid for. Wehave looked at differentways of raising moneytowards the next repair andhave discussed the issue atthe AGM and at meetingswith representatives of theresidents and parents ofchildren attending HadleyWood Primary school.

As a result of thesediscussions, our plans for those using theHadley Wood Association Private Car Parkare as follows. All users are requested toapply for a permit stating their car make andregistration number. Users who are alreadymembers of the Hadley Wood Associationor its associated clubs (the Tennis andBridge Clubs), the Pre-school and Danceschool and who are therefore alreadycontributing to the HWA will for the timebeing receive a free permit. Those who donot fall into these categories, mostly parentsof children attending the Primary School, will be asked to join the Hadley WoodAssociation (£50.00 a year). Please contactthe HWA by telephone (020 8449 7193) oremail ([email protected])for an application form.

A permit will be issued specific to that

Hadley WoodHealthcare UpdateI have recently joined the team ofTherapists at Hadley Wood HealthCare onThursday’s. I have been a Holistic facilitatorsince 1996 and I continue to train andbroaden my skills. I initially trained as anAromatherapist and in a quest to extend myknowledge of the Holistic Mind/Bodyconnection I then also trained inReflexology, Reiki, Indian Head MassageCranioSacral Therapy and Ear Candling. Ihave dedicated some of my time to raisingmoney for and working with people withcancer at Cherry Lodge Cancer Care inBarnet and St Margaret’s Hospital inEpping. In my experience in working withpeople with a variety of health problems Ihave gained great insights into how holistictreatments give a sense of well being andhow they can be helpful in coping with thestresses of everyday life as well as dealingwith traumatic life events. When stressedcontinually your body is in flight/fight modewhich causes the release of stresshormones resulting in depletion of energy, interrupted sleep patterns, or even panicattacks. Holistic treatments such as CST,Reiki etc can help bring the body back intobalance helping to improve the functioningof the central nervous system, eliminating

the negative effects of stress, strengtheningresistance to disease, and enhancingoverall health. I use Cranio Sacral Therapyas the basis of each treatment. This makesme aware of where restrictions are and how you are feeling and then throughdiscussion we can choose the therapy bestsuited to your needs. So if you feel theHolistic approach would be of benefit toyou please call for more information orbook an appointment.Maureen Clark. Hadley Wood TennisTournament in memoryof Debbie HymanDebbie (with husband Richard anddaughter Chloe) moved to LancasterAvenue in 2000 and she joined the Clubsoon after. I remember Chris introducing meto Debbie and suggesting that we shouldpartner each other in the Ladies Team thefollowing year. Unbeknownto me, Debbie had justbeen diagnosed withbreast cancer and wasabout to embark on acourse of treatment butDebbie nevertheless waskeen to play immediatelyafter her treatment.

After our first matchtogether, I realised what atruly gifted player she wasand was so happy that wewere playing together, but

Play began in some early sunshine andthen the heavens opened. But it failed todampen our spirits and play continuedthrough the rain! The event was a hugesuccess and a fitting tribute to a very specialfriend and, as one club member said, 'alovely lady and great tennis player'. Debbiewas all of that and so much more.

The event was supported by a number oflocal businesses who generously donatedprizes for the raffle including Creme; HadleyWood Health Care; and Thymari in CrescentWest; and also the restaurant Skewd inCockfosters. A special vote of thanks goesto those Club members who made so manydelicious cakes, donated raffle prizes andhelped behind the bar. We raised anamazing £2,122.01 which was donated toMarie Curie, a charity that does fantasticwork and was very close to Debbie's heart. This figure included a very generousdonation from Richard, Debbie's husband, who kindly pledged to match what weraised on the day.Jeannette Richards

more importantly, that it was clearly thebeginning of a very dear friendship. Herstrength and determination throughout herbattle was incredible and never wavered.Debbie's treatment continued for the next 8years but in that time she notched up 2ladies singles titles and 3 ladies doublestitles at the Club and a singles title at theDavid Lloyd Hatfield – a hugely inspiring andcourageous achievement. In early October2013, Hadley Wood Tennis Club held a

tournament to mark fiveyears since Debbie losther fight against cancer. The tournament matcheswere organised expertlyby Chris Hepworth, theClub coach. There was afantastic turn out with all 5courts being used - a totalof 38 people came tosupport the day, includingpast and present HWTCmembers as well as manyof Debbie’s friends.

The autumn term is always a busy one. They have also becomemore daring as their confidence has grown! The end of term was full of activitiesculminating with our Christmas Concert andParty. The children worked very hard tolearn new songs and impressed theirparents when they performed our nativity. They truly rose to the occasion and enjoyedthemselves. It was also the first time our

Accuro/Alpha Car Hire.Always interested in other people’s jobs(especially those organisations which supportthis magazine) I went down to New Barnetover the Christmas holiday to meet NickAdams and Richard Gates who run and ownAccuro/Alpha cars.

Why Accuro? Accuratus, they tell me withsome relish, is a Latin word which refers to takingcare of, attending to (duties/guests) givingattention to or performing with care. “That’s ourmotto” says Nick.

They have been running this business forthirteen years from their office in Edward Roadand with their experienced controller Stevethey have collectively 56 years of experiencein this field.

“What is important in the private car-hirebusiness” I ask. “Promptness, reliability andtrust” Nick answers. “It is essential thatcustomers trust the company and itsoperatives”. Now they pick up unaccompaniedchildren, escort elderly people to the doctorsand shops as well as sometimes helpingcustomers to check in at the airports. Punctualityis as important. “We must arrive on time or a littlebefore. The switchboard is the nerve centre ofthis organization and it is manned 24/7” says

Nick. “If there is a problem getting to thecustomer the driver will ring in and we willarrange immediate back-up. We run 15 -20 carsand have access to more. We are, by the way, very very careful about who we employ. Theyhave to fit in, know the job and the geography, behave politely and of course have theirenhanced CRB checks and Public CarriageOffice/Transport for London licences in order”.

“Why is the company called Accuro andAlpha” I ask. “We manage them as separateentities” Nick explains. “The Accuro service is thetop end of our range of cars” Executive carssuch as the big Mercedes models etc. Alpha isa standard service with normal saloon carswhich has a lower tariff.

Six and seven passenger vehicles areavailable across the range” Any special trips?

“We will take clients anywhere” says Richard“from a quick trip to the shops to ..er.. well Romewas probably our longest job closely followed byBerlin”. “What about picking up clients from theWest End or airports. What do you charge andisn’t it difficult to coordinate pick-up times? “Wellfor the West End we would charge £35 for astandard saloon car” answers Nick. “There is nocongestion charge for us of course as we areexempt through our operators licence. Wearrange a pick up point as close to the theatre orrestaurant as we can and keep in contact bymobile phone”. What is your customer base like?“Accuro have a very wide range of clients fromprivate individuals to large corporate blue chipcompanies and a wide range of celebrities…though we do not divulge names as discretion isparamount” says Richard studiously ignoring myinterested look. “Hadley Wood customers are avery important group and represent about 20%of our 10000 jobs a year”.

Leaving the office I reflect that it is not difficultto see why this firm is so successful. Goodservice and good communication allied withattention to detail. Those in charge alwaysavailable. Sounds to me like a recipe forsuccess.Tel. 020 8447 3777 for AccuroTel. 020 8447 1000 for Alpha
