e shout “Alleluia” to the Good News that the Risen Lord brings us fullness of life everlasting. In prayer, in song,

in being together for our Easter Celebration, we personalize and deepen our baptismal commitment to living in faith. We look forward to making the Easter commitment with you this year. All Liturgies today are being offered for you, your intentions, and those you love! We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to all those who helped in any special way to make the Easter Triduum a beautiful and spiritual experience in the lives of the people of St. Clare of Assisi, St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Holy Spirit and St. Thomas à Becket Parishes. To all the volunteers who have given their time and talents to decorate our Churches—your hard work truly made them bright with color and the freshness of spring, symbolizing the new life of Easter. To our Music Directors—Carol Accetta, Christopher McCloskey, Sean Thornton and Jean Werner, whose talents enhanced the Easter Triduum; their voices and music fill our churches with the glorious joy of this Sacred Season. To the Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Altar Servers and Ushers—your involvement in our worship helped make our Sacred Liturgies very special for all those who attended. May the Risen Lord continue to give you hope, increase your faith and let you feel His ever-abiding love in each and every moment of your lives. Sincerely in the Risen Lord, Father Robert J. Cedolia Father William R. Terza Father Kenneth E. Kezmarsky Deacon Gerard A. Como Mrs. Amy LaMartina, Pastoral Associate … and our Parish Staff from St. Clare of Assisi, St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Holy Spirit and St. Thomas à Becket

Easter Reflection When Christians are asked the meaning of Easter, they refer to the Resurrection of Jesus. It is the day for telling the wondrous story: Mary Magdalene saw the stone moved away, Peter went in and saw the wrappings on the ground and the beloved disciple saw and believed. The faith of contemporary believers builds on their testimony. It is our festival of life, for the boldness of God’s love snatched victory from the jaws of death. Our memories and rituals unite us with that event which was so disconcerting, marvelous and liberating. Sunday after Sunday, and especially at this greatest Sunday of the year, we enter events which show Easter as more than a “once upon a time” event. We bless and share a meal that shapes us as the Body of Christ. We sing alleluias and say the good news still takes flesh in our world. We color eggs and enjoy feasts without need of a rational explanation. The pull to dress finely may be marred by commercialism or a drive for status, but we know our winter has passed and new life is here. In these and in so many other ethnic customs, we renew life just as we renew our baptismal commitment. More correctly, we rest in awe before the One who renews life and provides the possibility of commitment. The reading from Colossians highlights still another dimension of this day. Implicit within all these celebrations, there is a sense of future. We can be intent on “things” above, rather than things of earth.” Easter is a promise of the end time. Our festivals take place in a sinful world, in an imperfect Church. In them we taste that time we will all be in glory.

Wishing that the blessings of the Lord fills your

hearts and homes with happiness.

Happy Easter!

In Our Parish Communities

The Cloverleaf Area Ecumenical Assistance Program (CAEAP), located in St. Pius X Hall at St. Elizabeth, has completed 35 years of service to our local community. Three of the four churches in our grouping, St. Elizabeth, St. Thomas à Becket and Holy Spirit, have been providing donations of food and funds throughout these years along with Pleasant Hills Presbyterian, Nativity Catholic Church, Jefferson Presbyterian, Jefferson Methodist and Good Shepherd Lutheran. We welcome St. Clare of Assisi into our generous church community. For those who don’t know, our Food Bank is open for distribution of food Tuesdays from 9AM to Noon. Any parishioner of our supporting churches, or those who live within a 2-mile radius of the food bank, is welcome to apply for assistance. We also welcome new volunteers. If you can’t assist us on Tuesday mornings, we have a rotating schedule to pick up baked goods on Saturday and Sunday mornings from Giant Eagle, Fresh Thyme and Panera Bread. This only requires a commitment of a few hours every 5 or 6 weeks. For any questions about donating, volunteering or needing our services, call 412-207-1657. Thank you for your continued support. — Jackie Grachen, Director

The Pittsburgh Foundation’s Day of Giving is May 7 from 8AM to 11:59PM. The foundation will match funds donated to local non-profits. The Cloverleaf Food Bank (located at

St. Elizabeth) is an approved charity and would be grateful for your generosity on this day. Please go to www.PittsburghGives.org for more information.

“Thinking of prayer as a conversation with a friend is very helpful. Sometimes we have a lot to say and sometimes we need to be able to listen. If we are meant to have a personal relationship with God, then communication is key. Prayer is that communication and it doesn’t have to be difficult, just honest and consistent...Nick and I are enjoying the [Alpha] sessions and getting to know other parishioners." —Jean Wytiaz

ST. ELIZABETH SCHOOL

Preschool is having a “DINO-MITE” spring! The preschoolers have been incorporating measuring into different themes. While learning about our Letter Friend, Mr. Q, the students have been spending time learning about dinosaurs. To try to help the children understand the size of dinosaurs, the children stood next to a tracing of a dinosaur foot. The preschoolers measured to see if they were smaller or larger than, or the same size of the dinosaur foot. Another activity that accompanied this was to stack Lego Duplo bricks to measure the size of the dinosaur foot. Preschoolers have also been having some fun learning about spring. Our spring fun started with small group activities that focused on weather. The preschoolers did some weather graphing and had fun with wind races. The children used their own wind to blow cotton balls from one side of the carpet to the other side. It was exciting to see whose cotton balls were blown to the other side of the carpet first! Kindergarten Class

Tea Party in the Library On April 2, Kindergarten students attended a Welcome Spring Tea Party during their weekly visit to Library class. To prepare for the party, the students listened to Frog and Toad stories, including tales about Spring’s arrival and Teardrop Tea. They also heard comical tea party stories about a bear, a T-rex and a tiger. Mrs. Eileen Andreola, the librarian, served hot tea, lemonade, animal crackers and tea cakes, to the delight of the students. The students were invited to wear a festive hat for the occasion. Peter Kokanos, adorned in a three corner hat, proclaimed the party “the best day ever.” TEXAS ROADHOUSE FUNDRAISER St. Elizabeth Elementary School is holding a fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse on Tuesday, April 30 from 4-8:00 PM. Please join us. We will have a table set up with Chinese Auction Baskets and a Bake Sale. You will find the coupons by the Church entrances. Please share this with friends and family. Heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Carl Succop, brother of Jim Succop of our parish, Carl Klun, brother of Angie Zalakar of our parish and Alexander “Al” Thomas of our parish. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed be embraced by the Heavenly Father unto everlasting life.

May Carl, Al & Carl rest in the peace of the Lord.

ST THOMAS À BECKET PARISHIONERS If you’ve had a change of address, phone number (maybe to a cell # instead of a land line), a name change, please let us know by calling the Parish Office at 412-655-2885. This will help us in keeping the parish census files up to date. Thank you.

THANK YOU to all who contributed to our Easter Flower Fund. With their help, our church, and especially the sanctuary, are beautifully decorated! The flowers and plants remind us of the magnificence of God’s creation. But even more so, at Easter, they are symbols of the beauty of that new life which Christ established in His RESURRECTION! Adding to the beauty of our celebration of that Resurrection and adding to the Easter Joy of all who visit our Church during this special season, is a wonderful way to remember a loved one and to reflect on the new life which all of us are called to, but which we pray that our deceased loved ones now enjoy in its fullness! May God bless all of our generous Flower Fund supporters and their loved ones, both living and deceased!

A list of contributors and their intentions will be printed and available on the table

in the back of the church in the upcoming weeks.

THE CHURCH OFFICE will be closed for Easter and will re-open on

Tuesday, April 23.

Prayer For Easter Our Lord Jesus, You have risen to new life!

As we rejoice and give thanks for your great goodness and mercy,

Give us new eyes with which to recognize Your presence in the world around us.

Strengthen the faith of our families so that we may grow together in love.

Sharpen our vision so that we see beyond the ordinary events of each day and into the

extraordinary reality of your grace. Brighten our view of the world with renewed

hope in the coming of the Kingdom. Soften our gaze so that we view others with the

kind of tenderness and compassion you showed to so many, so that with loving hearts

we may serve the weak and needy for love of you. May each day of this Easter season

provide us glimpses of your glory and may your joy grow in us day by day.

Amen.

Dana

We are pleased to announce the appointment of a Youth & Young Adult Minister for our parish grouping: Dear Parishioners of St. Clare, St. Elizabeth, Holy Spirit and St. Thomas, My name is Dana Mahr and I am very excited to begin as the new Youth and Young Adult Minister for our grouping. I have been involved in youth ministry for eleven years where I served at St. Winifred (Mount Lebanon) as Youth Minister and Coordinator for Junior High Faith Formation. Every parish has their own story and traditions that mean a lot to all who call their church “home.” I am eager to learn your story! I will try to continue your wonderful traditions and make new ones. You will find that I am energetic and passionate about constantly wanting to give God the best that I personally can. I am looking forward to meeting all of you and helping to build a community with the youth in our grouping. I enjoy working with the youth and helping them grow in their faith, either by weekly sessions, retreats, or national conferences. We will begin a Lifeteen Program soon, but in the meantime, watch the bulletin, your mail and email to find out what activities will be taking place. To be placed on my contact list for more information, please email me at [email protected], or call 412-882-5023. I would love to hear your suggestions and ideas for moving forward with this new ministry in the parishes. My husband Joe, and our children Abigail and Joseph, look forward to meeting all of you.
