Woman accused of hacking boy with panga

The family of eight-year-old Grade 3 pupil Ento Ngobeni is reeling with shock after a female neighbour had allegedly hacked the child with a panga and sucked the blood from his raw wounds.

The incident took place last Monday.During Limpopo Mirror’s visit to the

family in Waterval earlier this week, Ento’s grandmother and guardian, Ms Tintswalo Hlongwane (55), told the newspaper that the family was still trau-matised after the ghastly incident.

“My grandson’s peers rushed into my

house and informed me that a woman had locked my grandson inside her house and that he was screaming for help,” said Hlongwane.

She and her daughter, Blessing, im-mediately ran to her neighbour’s stand and knocked on the door and tried to open it, but the kitchen door was locked.

They said that they had knocked and shouted out the woman’s name, beg-ging her to open the door. All along they could hear Ento screaming from in-side the house.

“When the door was fi nally opened, there in the doorway, she was on her knees, staring up at us with pleading eyes,” said Hlongwane. “She said, ‘Sesi Maggie, ni vavisile n’wana (My sister Mag-gie, I have injured the child)’. Her cheeks and lips were covered with fresh blood.”

Hlongwane and Bless-ing fi nally managed to get through to young Ento, who had been locked inside the indoor toilet.

Blue Rocks give Basel FC a hiding

Victim shoots at suspected robbers

Makhado “hand court case” postponed

“I’m a reformed man” - former inmate

Not only did Basel FC suffered their fourth defeat in succes-sion, but they were buried alive at the Nkowankowa Stadium in Tzaneen last Saturday af-ternoon. They were given a 6-0 drubbing by Blue Rocks.

The home side was on the attack from the first whistle,

while the struggling Basel played defensive football right from the onset. Although Blue Rocks scored their fi rst two goals within the fi rst 15 minutes, Basel con-tinued to defend as if they were the ones who were leading. That prompted Blue Rocks to go all out and the half-time score was

4-0 as a result.The match between Dynamos

and Ray Pillars, which was scheduled for Saturday at the Nkowankowa Stadium, did not take place. The league was still awaiting the reports from both the match offi cials and the clubs at the time of going to the press.

The sound of gunshots broke the night silence in the vicinity of KFC Makhado on Monday when a victim of a botched rob-bery chased after two suspects.

The incident occurred near the KFC on the corner of Son-gozwi and Grobler Street. From eyewitness reports it seems as if the victim had bought some goods from a nearby supermarket and was walking along the road when he was approached by the

two robbers. They apparently threatened him with an object that looked like a fi rearm.

According to the communi-cations offi cer at the Limpopo police’s media centre, Const Tsietsi Lamola, it is alleged that the victim of the alleged attempt-ed armed robbery took out his licensed fi rearm. “He fi red two warning shots,” he said. “The two unknown men fl ed the alleged crime scene.”

According to bystanders, the alleged robbers ran down Grobler Street and vanished into some of the residential properties, with the victim chasing after them. As the victim turned to go back and collect his groceries, people who were standing in front the KFC noticed one of the suspects scuttling across the road from the side of the bird sanctuary. They shouted, “There is one of them!” but the suspect was gone.

There is still no progress in the town’s brutal and infamous “hand case.”

The 38-year-old Freddy Azwi-tamisi Tshikhudo, who stands accused of the murder of Rum-bidzai Manyere (36), appeared in the Louis Trichardt District Court again on Friday, 17 Janu-ary. He was arrested almost eight

months ago, in April of last year, at Elti Café in Eltivillas, when he allegedly tried to rob the business by using a severed human arm.

The following day, Tshikhu-do led the Makhado police to the place where the murdered Manyere’s body was found. Manyere’s right arm, both eyes and her private parts had been re-

moved. Her body itself was in an advanced state of decomposition.

Tshikhudo is currently facing two counts of rape, and single counts of murder, housebreaking and robbery.

His case was postponed until 28 February. He will remain in custody until then.

When he was arrested for murdering his part-ner and sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment in 2002, Mr Elson Mutshutshu Muvhango (55) thought his world had fallen apart forever.

While in prison, Muvhango started attending art and craft classes until he fully mastered the required skills. After staying in prison for eight years and nine months, Muvhango was released on parole, after displaying good behavior. He is now using the skills he acquired in prison to make cash. He makes beautiful fl ower pots, images of animals and decorative ornaments at his home in Malale village, outside Musina.

A staunch member of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC), Muvhango says he deeply regrets the in-cident that led to his arrest in 2002. “I am now a

Woman arrested for assault GBH

(From page 1)The spokesperson for the Limpopo police,

Capt Maano Sadiki, confi rmed that a 58-year-old woman had been arrested and charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

She has since appeared in the Waterval Mag-istrate’s Court and was granted R2 000 bail. “So far she hasn’t posted bail, and she remains in custody,” said Sadiki. “She will appear in court again on 28 February. We cannot comment on the state of mind of the victim as this matter is pending further investigations.”

reformed man and I deeply regret what I had done before I became man of God. I know what I did was wrong, because I was infl uenced by evil spir-its. I ask God every day to forgive me my sins as I forgive the sins of my fellow men. I now live by the Word of God and I also have a duty to preach, so that other people can also see His greatness.”

Asked how he crafted his products, Muvhango was quick to respond: “I make sure that I have enough water, cement, river sand, cardboard boxes, old newspapers and bar soap. At times I also go to the bush to look for snail shells that I use to decorate my products. Those are all the ingredients I need to make any product that I can think of.”

He says it takes up to three days to complete most of his products. “I have to make sure that I put them in the sun to dry. It becomes diffi cult for me to work during rainy days as I don’t have a workshop.”

Muvhango, who also sells fi rewood for survival, says the prices of his products range from R50 to R500, depending on size. He says most of his customers are tourists who visit the village en route to the Kruger National Park.

Despite his talent, Muvhango says there are some setbacks for which he needs assistance in order to address them. “I need a ceramics machine, so that I can also manufacture plates, saucers and mugs, but I don’t have enough money to buy one. I appeal to anyone out there to assist me. I also need people who can help me to market my products, both lo-cally and internationally. There is no constant water supply where I am staying as I don’t have a tap in the yard. This leads to a very serious shortage of water, which affects my production. I also need a decent workshop to execute my duties with ease.”

Muvhango can be contacted on 076 288 3044.

Education

Excellence awards for the north’s best“This government is doing its best to make sure that ed-ucation is accessible to every child. It does not need a guest speaker to emphasize that 96.3% of our schools are no-fee schools and 97.2% of our pupils are benefi ting from the National Schools Nutrition Programme. Those who are staying far from their schools are also benefi tting from the scholar transport.”

These were the words of Ms Florence Radzilani, a mem-ber of the Limpopo Legislature, while addressing the fully packed Musina Show Grounds hall during the Department of Ed-ucation Soutpansberg North Circuit’s 2013 Excellence Awards.

Radzilani added that the provincial government wanted to thank the school principals, school management teams, teachers, pupils and SGB members for the impressive Grade 12 results. “We recog-nize their collective effort in attaining these good results. Because of your con-tributions and hard work, Vhembe Dis-trict took position one

in Limpopo Province,” she added.

She said that as part of moni-toring schools, the government had embarked on a back-to-school campaign where poli-ticians checked if things were going well.

“The campaign is aimed at assessing the readiness of our schools in relation to the issues of stationery and the environ-ment in which the education is taking place. Our visits also focus on schools that obtain

poor results, so that we can come up with remedial actions to improve the situation.”

Categories for the awards in-clude educators who produced 100% pass rate in various Grade 12 subjects, educators who produced distinctions in vari-ous subjects, best learner per subject, best improved school, best circuit learner, schools that produce 100% pass rate and best school in matric exemption percentage pass.

Musina Mayor Carol Phiri hands over a trophy to the principal of Mopane Intermediate School, Tshilidzi Mabirimisa. The school was rewarded for producing the most quality results in bachelor passes in the Soutpansberg North Circuit. Also in the picture are Musina Chief Whip Simon Madamalala (left), member of the Limpopo Legislature Florence Radzilani, Limpopo Legislature Chief Whip Jan Tseane and Soutpansberg North Circuit Manager Dr Ntavhanyeni Phaswana.

The principal of Eric Louw High School, Ms Cobie Mostert, receives an award from Soutpansberg North Circuit Manager Dr Ntavhanyeni Phaswana on behalf of her school, which produced a 100% pass rate in last year’s Grade 12 results.

Hardworking community worker killed in vehicle accident

The car which collided with the taxi. Inset: The devastated family members.

A 42-year-old man, Muthuphei Makhovha, died on Saturday morning when his vehicle collided head-on with a taxi near Tshik-warani.

The police in the Tshilwavhusiku area confirmed that they are investi-gating a case of culpable homicide. Three other passengers were treated at the local clinic and one was trans-ferred to the Louis Trichardt Memo-rial hospital for treatment after the accident. They were all discharged the same day.

A family spokesperson, Alfred

Makhovha, said the family was very shocked when hearing the news about the death. "We will have to accept it, because God's will has been done," he said.

A community member, Mr Samuel Tshifura, described the late Mr Mak-hovha as a hardworking man who had a broad vision.

He said community members consulted him on various matters, even concerning their own private lives. "He was always ready to assist with anything that he could provide," he said.

The MEC responsible for Roads and Transport, Lehlogono Masoga, expressed his condolences to the family, loved ones and friends of the deceased.

"We also urge all road users, motorists and pedestrians alike, to exercise great caution and obey all the rules of the road at all times, without exception," said Masoga.

Muthuphei is survived by three children, his mother, sister and broth-er. He will be buried tomorrow (Saturday) and the service will start at 06:00. The late Mr Muthuphei Makhovha.

Doris’ leave-to-appeal application rejectedThe infamous Doris Mthembi will now turn to the High Court for “justice” after her leave-to-appeal application was rejected.

The 41-year-old Mthembi appeared in the Louis Trichardt Regional Court on Monday, asking permission to appeal her sentence. She was handed a six-year prison stay in November of last year, when she was found guilty of perjury.

Mthembi lied to the police when she accused her ex-hus-band, Mr Goddard Tendani Mugwena, of kidnapping and raping her.

Mthembi, by means of her advocate, argued that the court had been too harsh and unfair when it handed down a custodial sen-tence to her. “The court was not merciful when they gave a direct impr i sonmen t sentence, forget-ting to take into cons ide r a t i on that she has little children to take care off,” said the advocate, Mr Ndleve. “She is not a danger to the public, as the court claimed in its verdict, and we are sure that ano the r cour t would not have

given such a harsh sentence, or maybe even a suspended sentence.”

Magistrate Pat Cloete did not agree and rejected the ap-plication. He remarked that the cellphone evidence, brought by the State, was just too damming. “Those records disproved her version of the story beyond any reasonable doubt,” said Cloete.

On Monday, the court room was packed with family and friends of Doris who pitched up in her support. All of them were wearing white T-shirts, imprint-ed with slogans and Doris’s face. On the front of the T-shirts the question “Where’s justice for Doris?” with a somewhat dubious citation from the Bible

– Isaiah 53:15 - was displayed. This particular chapter of Isaiah ends at verse 12.

After Mthembi was led back to the prison vehicle that would take her back to Matatshe Pris-on, her supporters shouted at a journalist not to take photos. One supporter laughed, and told magistrate Cloete that they would meet again. Outside of the court room there was pande-monium when Mthembi’s sister got into a screaming match with Goddard, shouting at him: “You are a rapist!”

At the time of going to press, Mthembi’s legal team had yet to lodge an application with the High Court to have her case reviewed.

Doris Mthembi is supported by her hushand, Mr Joe Ragwala. He and a handful of supporters wore special T-shirts demanding justice for Doris.

Beit Bridge’s town secretary passes away

Dr Sipho Singo (56).

Beit Bridge Town secretary and renowned academic and businessman Dr Sipho Singo (56) has died.

The local authority’s director of housing and administration, Mr Mbongeleni Muleya, said Singo died in the Polokwane Provincial Hospital on Saturday evening. The cause of his death was heart failure. His condition deteriorated on Friday night and he was rushed to Musina Hospi-tal on Saturday morning and he was referred to Polokwane Pro-vincial Hospital, where he died on admission,” said Muleya.

A memorial service for Dr

Singo will be held in Beit Bridge on Friday morning.

Muleya described Dr Singo as a man who had a strong passion for development in Beit Bridge. “His death is a sad loss for the council and residents of Beit Bridge. We have lost a fatherly figure, a great man who had a vision to transform the face of Beit Bridge into a modern city. During his tenure, he spearheaded a number of developmental projects, which were worth emulating by other town councils.”

Singo’s widow, Agnes, said the family had lost an inspira-

tional man and a champion of development. “We are at loss of words. This is a big blow to us as a family. He was a hard worker and a very generous man who was instrumental in spearheading developmental projects in the district,” she said.

Dr Singo was born on March 28, 1958, in Beit Bridge in a family of ten children. He is survived by his wife and five-year-old daughter, Tendani.

Singo, a renowned academic and businessman, joined Beit Bridge Town council on 14 May 2009.

He obtained a PhD in ad-ministration from the University of South Africa, a masters in adult education and an honours degree in politics and ad-ministration from the University of Zimbabwe.

Prior to joining the Beit Bridge Town Council, Singo was a lec-turer at the Unisa School of Public Management and Administration between 2004 and 2006 and he also lectured poli-tics at the Univer-sity of Namibia between 1998

and 2004.

Getting ready to cut the ribbon are, from right, Cllr Thambatshira Ananias Neluvhola, Mphaila village headman Davhana, Vho-Khotsimunene Mr Mavhungu David (Japan) Mphephu from the Mphephu-Ramabulana traditional council, Makhado Municipality's mayor, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi, and other members of the municipal council.

Ha-Mphaila community gets new bridgeThe isolated community of Ha-Mphaila in Nzhelele was in an ecstatic mood last week when representatives from the Makhado municipality officially opened the new bridge and access road. The old bridge and access road were damaged during heavy rains last year and had to be re-built at an estimated cost of R12 million.

The community, which is situated close to Tswime Mountain and separated from other villages by the Nzhelele River, was left stranded when floods destroyed the small bridge which was initially used by residents.

For a period of a week, most pupils, especially secondary school learners, were left stranded and did not go to school whilst community members could not go to work. People who fell ill during that time were not able to go to clinics. This ordeal prompted the municipality to approve the recon-struction project.

Community members, councillors, members of the provincial parliament and traditional lead-ers attended the ceremony, which was held last Thursday. The municipal mayor, Cllr David Mu-tavhatsindi, said that the municipal council, under his leadership, was committed to bringing good quality service to all people in the jurisdiction of the municipality.

“We promised last year that every month in the 2013/14 financial year we would be cutting ribbons and opening completed projects,” he said. He thanked the contractor, the oversight committee from the provincial parliament and the Mphaila

headman for committing themselves to ensuring that the project was of quality and finished in the estimated period.

The local councillor in Ward (38), Cllr Tham-batshira Ananias Neluvhola, said the bridge had simplified the lives of community members. He related to Limpopo Mirror his experience during the heavy floods. “It was difficult before. Every time when it was raining heavily, we knew that we would not go back home because the old bridge was too small and easily destroyed by floods,” he said.

Ms Tshamaano Makuya ne Nepfumbada is the newly appointed provincial general manager (PGM) for the SABC Limpopo.

Tshamaano the new boss of the SABCMs Tshamaano Makuya ne Nepfumbada is the new provincial general manager (PGM) for the SABC Limpopo.

According to the group executive: stakeholder relations and provinces, Mr Vincent Tsoenyane, the SABC has absolute confidence in Tshamaano and her ability to deliver on her mandate. “She is bringing a wealth of experience and has a credible track record,” he added.

Tsoenyane indicated that Tshamaano’s success in her new position will also depend to a great extent on the team work and support she receives from all stakeholders. He urged all role players to rally their support behind Tshamaano in order to take this province forward and the SABC as a whole.

Tshamaano has spent nearly seven years at the SABC, having joined the corporation in 2006 October as MLfm's marketing manager, and also acted as station manager for six months in 2008. She worked as programmes manager for Phalaphala FM for two years, before leaving for the Film and Publications Board (FPB) as operations manager in September 2012.

She holds a B Com Marketing degree and an honours degree in strategic management from the University of Johannesburg and has also worked for Amalgamated Beverage Industries as account manager and marketing services manager from 2002 to 2006. She said she was humbled, excited, and happy about this new challenge. “I have learned a lot from my recent job and hope the experience that I gathered and the challenges experienced will carry me forward and come in handy as I deliver on my mandate. It is also exciting for one to be coming back home and to the SABC that I am so familiar with.”

Rural secondary school excels against all oddsLwamondo Secondary School, one of the oldest and best-performing rural schools in Vhembe, produced a 100% pass rate in the 2013 Grade 12 results against all odds.

For the first time in its 46 years of ex-istence, the underresourced school where pupils do not have adequate classrooms, lack toilet facilities and are taught in cracked classrooms, surprised even the

schools who traditionally perform the best, when out of the 128 pupils who had written, 71 received university exemption.

MEC Rudolph Phala, Mayor Grace Mahosi of Thulamela and officials from the Department of Education visited the school during the past week to convey their congratulations.

The principal, Mr Tshubwana, seized the opportunity and briefed the MEC

about their plight. “We are very excited about the results. Numerous challenges impact negatively on our teaching and learning here. If we could be provided with more classrooms and other infrastruc-ture, we could improve our results even more, bearing in mind that our school has had a good improvement in results each year.” Tshubwana also said the results would have been different, had it not been

for the cooperation and unity between parents, pupils, educators, the SGB and all the other stakeholders.

“We are grateful for the support we are getting from the de-partment. We are now calling on the business community to come on board and help us in rebuilding the classes, so that our pupils have a better learning environ-ment,” he added.

Ms Maggie Liphadzi of Makhado donated groceries to a family in Mpheni Block B2 who is suffering to cope. The Rambau family of eight stays in a dilapidated house and none of them is employed. “When I passed by the house, I saw that they were in urgent need of help, so I decided to buy them groceries,” Maggie said. In the photo are, from left to right, Mulalo Hamisi, Maggie Liphadzi (donor) and Cathrine Rambau. The hardworking staff and principal Mr Tshimangadzo Tshubwana (seated fifth from right with

trophy) rejoice after the results were announced.

“I’m alive and well,” says Jininka

Arrested for theft from scene of crashTwo people, one of them a juve-nile, were arrested for allegedly ransacking the scene of a recent helicopter crash in Gwanda and stealing two Nokia cell-phones and R800 cash.

The owner of the aircraft, Mr Christian Malila Ndou, who was flying alone, died instantly in the Maphani area, about 6km from Gwanda in Zimbabwe. While others were trying to rescue the victim, the juvenile (17) and Hardlife Tavona Mupaneshure (27) had a different agenda.

The two appeared before Gwanda magistrate Ms Sheila Nazombe on Monday, facing theft charges and they both pleaded guilty to the offence. “I

picked up two cellphones from the site of the crash and shared them with Mupaneshure. We did not know that would amount to committing an offence,” said the juvenile. “We then met someone who had picked up some cash. He gave us R800 each, so that we would keep quiet. I then pro-ceeded home and told my mother about the cash and cell phones I had picked up, and she ordered me to return them. I then returned the cash, but kept the cellphone,” he added

Mupaneshure told the court that he had bought a satchel, a battery charger, a cell phone battery and earphones, using the loot.

The court heard that on 11 January, the accused went to the scene in the company of Khulani Makhaza, who is still on the run. Indications are that some of Ndou’s property was scattered in the bush close to the scene.

The accused persons rushed to the site and found some of the property, which included two Nokia cell phones, an un-disclosed amount of money and a torch. The accused stole the property and cash and shared it among themselves.

The police received a tip-off and a search was conducted at the accused’s residences, leading to the recovery of some of the stolen property.

The 2011 South African Tra-ditional Music Award (Satma) winner, Jininka, is an angry lady. The reason for her anger is that there are people who are spreading rumours that she is dead.

“I’m not dead. I’m alive and kicking. I don’t want people to run away when they see me. The people who are spreading the rumours are just jealous of my success. I don’t have to waste my precious time confronting them,” she said angrily.

Ms Jeanette Nkanyane, a prolific singer, said the base-less rumours started when she was involved in an accident while she was on her way to perform at the Big Tree Lodge in the Mutale area. “We were involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle at Tshitanzhe village and my car was damaged beyond repair. I was sent to Donald Fras-er Hospital because I had leg and head inju-ries. I spent a week in hospital before I was discharged. I’m now surprised that some people are saying I’m dead while I am very fit and alive.”

She added that her cousin, Humbulani Ramagwedzha, and

her husband, Elia Mulaudzi, were also in the car and spent two days in hospital for slight injuries.” She said the accident had seriously disturbed her music calendar and she had to cancel important performances. “It is now time to forget about the malicious rumours of my fake death and start concentrat-ing on my music career. I am back on my feet now and it is time to close the gaps left by the accident. I have several shows lined up now and I will be busy promoting my new album, Ndi Lwendoni. She says her new al-bum comprises 10 songs which have already started making

waves in the music fraternity. These are Ni zwothe zwine nda toda, Mukegulu vha ya lila, Mazwifhi anu, Muzika, Ro thuba Mutakalo, O mu vhalaya a di vhulaya, Khethani, Zwi do vhuya zwa luga, Tshinoni tsha Nkuku, Mubebi wa munwe ndi wau, Venda, Vhutshilo ndi lwendo and A zwo ngo leluwa.

On the album, she also col-laborated with seasoned musi-cians like Elia Mulaudzi, Hum-bulani Ramagwedzha, Herman Fox Manganyi, Ntando Mnguni, Ernest Mashell and Dark Tailor. Ndi Lwendoni was recorded and engineered by DJ Davic at Masana recording studio.

Jininka lies in pain in her hospital bed after the accident.

Two Egyptian nationals, who sneaked into Zimbabwe through the Beit Bridge Border Post, ran out of luck when they were arrested by alert detectives.

Mahmoud Elmelighy Elshiki (29) and Khaled Adly Asdelwahab Sallam (26), both from Gharbeya village in Egypt, were arrested at a service station in Beit Bridge last Thursday.

They appeared in court on Friday, but their trial could not continue because the state failed to get an Arabic translator.

Zimbabwe’s assistant regional immigration offi-cer in charge of the border post, Mr Charles Gwede, said the pair has been sent to Harare, pending de-portation to their home country. They are accused of contravening the Immigration Act and failure to apply for a visa at the port of entry. Their passports had not been cleared by the immigration officers.

The court heard that the two arrived in the neigh-bouring country from South Africa on 8 January. Upon their arrival at the border post, the two men did not make any efforts to complete immigration formalities. They were picked up by detectives, who were acting on a tip-off. The pair was asked to produce their travel documents and it was dis-covered that they were illegal immigrants, leading to their arrest.

The arrest comes a few weeks after the depart-ment of immigration raised concerns over the influx of illegal immigrants, especially those from countries from the horn of Africa, who have the tendency to violate international laws with the assistance of international syndicates.

mayor of the Thulamela local munic-ipality, Cllr Grace Mahosi, Thovhele Gole Mphaphuli, various council-lors and some senior managers of the Department of Education, ad-dressed the pupils of Mbilwi last Wednesday.

The MEC’s visit to Mbilwi also coincided with the government’s “back-to-school campaign,” aiming to encourage pupils and teachers to start with the academic activities on the day the schools opened.

Dedication pays off for top teacher MmbengeniDedication and hard-work paid off for Mr Nthambeleni Mmbengeni when he received the award for the best teacher in the province.

Mmbengeni is an accounting teacher at Thengwe Secondary School, the second-best-performing school in Limpopo.

When the results were announced in Polokwane recently, Mmbengeni was named as the best teacher in the province in recognition of his good work of producing 20 distinctions, including a 100% pass mark by Tshifhiwa Munzhelele.

Mmbengeni was given a new laptop and a certificate by Limpopo MEC of Education Ms Dikeledi Magadze. When asked how he had made it, Mmbengeni says: “Hard work and dedication are the secrets behind everything. By last year May, I was already through with the syllabus. When we came back in July, I was doing revision with my 109 pupils. By the time we went for final exams, my pupils were more than ready as they had written more than 30 tests,” says Mmbengeni with a smile.

Out of his 109 pupils, only three failed in the final exams.

Mmbengeni says he is inspired by the award. He is also planning to do better by producing more than 30 distinctions in this year’s matric results. Mmbengeni, who comes from Thengwe village, is a former pupil of Thengwe Secondary School, like many teachers there.

He first taught at the school in 1981 as an unqualified teacher. He then went to the former Venda College of Education where he acquired his teacher’s diploma before he went to Khwevha Mr Nthambeleni Mmbengeni. (Photo: Phathutshedzo Luvhengo)

“Have we lost respect for funerals?”

Mayor Carol Phiri addresses Musina High School learners during the first day of the 2014 academic year.

Musina Mayor Carol Phiri and her councillors visited local schools last Wednesday, the first day of the 2014 academic year, to encourage learners and teachers to start their lessons with enthusiasm and to moti-vate pupild to study hard.

When addressing teachers and pupils at Musina High School, she thanked all stakeholders who had made 2013 a successful year. Musina High School attained a 70,9% Grade 12 pass rate last year.

“I take this opportunity to encourage you to study hard and take education seriously, because it is through education that knowledge and information are received and spread through-out the world. For the rest of 2014, forget about anything else and put your books first. It is our wish that all of you must be studying at tertiary institutions next year. You can only achieve this through hard work. You are very lucky because you have dedicated educators who are

readily available to assist you day and night.”

Phiri also introduced the Mu-sina Municipality mayoral study donations, which are presented to deserving learners every year. “I encourage you to make use of this opportunity, because the mu-nicipality is always there to assist you to achieve your educational goals,” she said.

The principal, Mr Abram Ligavha, said the recipe for suc-cess at his school was team work, dedication and proper planning.

The communications manager of Musina Municipality, Mr Wilson Dzebu.

I had to make sure that I went to sleep early that Friday eve-ning, so that I would wake up early on Saturday morning to attend the funeral of my friend’s mother at Madimbo village. The village is about 80km east of Musina.

I was relieved that I had arrived on time and the funer-al proceedings started with a prayer at home before we went to the graveyard.

When the proceedings at home were completed, people were rushing to get transport to the graveyard. A young man quickly ran to me while I was on my way to my car and he greeted me politely. “Can I ride with you, Mr. Dzebu?” he said with a smile on his face. “With pleasure,” I also responded to him happily.

After we had driven about 300 meters from the bereaved family’s house, the young man remarked: “We must make sure that we come back from the graveyard earlier because we might run out of food.” While I was still amazed, he reached into his jacket pocket and took out a small green plastic bag. He unwrapped it and took out something. “Sir, take five and I will remain with another five.” As I was driving, I insisted on

knowing what he was offer-ing me before I could accept. He said in Tshivenda: “Ndi phiriphiri Vho-Dzebu, zwiliwa zwa mbulungoni a zwi difhi zwi so ngo sheliwa phiriphiri.” Loosely translated: “It’s pepper, Mr Dzebu. Food at the funeral doesn’t taste good if pepper is not added.”

I rejected his offer, and I was so angry that I told him that he would not travel in my car when we finished the proceedings at the graveyard. Indeed, I had to leave him behind with his phiriphiri and I refused when he wanted to get into my car. Surpris-ingly, when people arrived at the bereaved family’s house from the graveyard, the young man was already in the queue for food. I monitored him closely after he had taken a plate of beef and pap. I saw him with my own eyes as he unwrapped his plastic bag, took out his phirirphiri and mixed it with the beef.

I then started to ask my-self: “What is happening in this world of today? Are funerals losing value? Do some people use the time of mourning to satisfy their bodily appetites?” If this is

so, the gods must be crazy.I believe community leaders

must do something about situa-tions like these. We can’t just sit and relax while people continue to disrespect the mourning peri-od and use them as a platform to satisfy their personal appetites. What the young man did was totally out of order and disre-spectful. I had to put this true story on paper, so that we can assist each other in restoring morals in our communities.

Award-winning journalist, Wilson Dzebu relates his personal experience while attending a funeral at Madimbo village. Dzebu is the Communications Manager of Musina Municipality and he wirtes in his personal capacity.

The Makhado public library will not be opera-tional tomorrow (Saturday).

According to a media release by the Makhado Municipality, the library will be closed due to “spring cleaning” that will take place. The library will be fully operational again on Monday, 27 January.

The Vhembe and Mopane regions are the most fragile areas where one could easily be infected with malaria, especially during the rainy season.

According to the Department of Health in Lim-popo, a record number of 765 malaria cases were recorded over the past three months, with 217 cases reported in October, 347 in November and 201 in December.

The Donald Fraser, Malamulele and Musina hospitals are the hospitals that recorded the highest number of malaria cases in the Vhembe district, whilst the Nkhensani, Maphuta and Malatjie hospitals recorded the highest number in Mopane.

The Department of Health has warned that during October to February the number of malaria cases increases.

The reason for the increase is because of the rain and the subsequent breeding of mosquitoes.

The department also warned travellers, espe-cially those who visited high-risk areas during the festive season, to be watchful for malaria signs and symptoms. Some of those symptoms include fever, body pains, headache, nausea and diarrhoea.

“If any of these symptoms are experienced, patients should immediately proceed to the closest clinic or health centre for a malaria test,” said the Department of Health’s spokesperson, Ms Adele van der Linde.

Ms van der Linde said that the higher incidence of malaria was caused by travelling and human behaviour.

“During December, many community members and migrant workers from the province visited high-risk malaria areas outside the provincial boundaries. People also spent more time outdoors in the evenings during December,” she said.

“Unfortunately, there are still patients who delay consulting when they fall sick, resulting in fever and complicated malaria, that can lead to malar-ia-related fatalities,” she said.

It was established that only seven suspected fatalities had occurred, with four in November and three in December.

The department has embarked on an operation to minimize the transmission of the disease. “All 42 malaria teams from the department are fully op-erational in the communities with indoors residual spraying,” she said. The department was also edu-cating communities about early treatment-seeking behaviour.

SanParks responds to outcry after killing of elephantThe South African National Parks (SANParks) has responded to a public outcry on its decision to euthanize an elephant that had flipped over a vehicle belonging to a visiting British couple, injuring the occupants on 30 December 2013.

Speaking from the Kruger Nation-al Park, the managing executive of this iconic park, Mr Abe Sibiya, said the incident was a consequence of parks’ allowing people to enjoy the natural environment; unfortunately, some did so in an irresponsible manner. “While it is expected in

an environment such as the Kruger National Park that human and animal conflict will always occur, it is also vitally important that members of the public visiting various national parks should always adhere to the rules.”

Sibiya said while the park could understand the public outcry and anger towards the management, it was critical for the public to have confidence in the park management. “The park is managed by adequately qualified officials who are able to make informed and appropriate decisions at any given time.”

According to Sibiya, the deci-

sion to euthanize the animal was not taken lightly but based on the information from very experienced rangers’ assessment that the animal was likely to attack tourist vehicles in the future. “It is for this reason that we appeal to our patrons to act in a responsible manner and give such information as quickly as possible, rather than share it on social media platforms.”

He said that, to bring closure to the matter, SANParks would need the co-operation of the visitors who had taken the video. “The law stipulates that evidence such as this should be

accompanied by a written statement from eyewitnesses as the footage cannot be the only permissible evi-dence in order to sanction any fine against the alleged perpetrators.”

“Tourists need to change their behavior when on self-game drives … we drive this message in our communication at check-in points, on our brochures and on the per-mits. It is totally impossible to have constant policing of holidaymakers as the park’s resources are already stretched with many operations go-ing on at the same time,” concludes Sibiya. A war of words has erupted between a pension-er, Mr Liton Mugagadeli, and the Thulamela local municipality (TLM).

The centre of their dispute is the connection of a sewerage system at Mugagadeli’s house in Block F, site 1055, portion 19. Mugagadeli (68), a former offi cial of the Department of Transport, said his problems started in 2007 when he bought a site from the Thulamela municipality and built a house.

Despite their painful experienc-es, it was all smiles when mem-bers of the two Musina families whose houses were destroyed by a fi re received blankets from their ward councilors.

Messrs Ephraim Mkhonto (26) and Rodney Ndlovu started the year on a bad note as their houses mysteriously caught fi re during the festive season.

Mkhonto’s ward councilor, Ms Nkele Milanzi, said she learnt with sadness about the incident that led to the destruction of everything in Mkhonto’s house. “We understand the pain which the family is going through, and

it is our responsibility to come to their rescue in this diffi cult time. Our wealth is our people and we have to make sure that these families also enjoy life like other community members. They did not choose to be in such a dire situation and, as a responsible municipality, we feel that it is important to help those who are in need.” Upon handing the blankets to the Ndlovu family, Cllr Simon Madamala said all the people deserved to live in dignity in this democratic country.

“I was touched when I received the bad news that Ndlovu’s house had caught fi re. What hurt me

most is the fact that all their valu-ables were destroyed and none of the family members is employed. We had to take it upon ourselves to make sure that we contribute something to this family.”

When accepting the blankets, Mkhonto said: “I thought my world was crumbling, but I’m now happy because I know that there are people who care out there. I don’t have enough words to thank my ward councilor for coming to our rescue. We are really very thankful.” Ndlovu added that words alone could not express their gratitude. “I’m so happy to receive these blankets.”

Mr Rodney Ndlovu smiles as he receives blankets from his ward councillor, Mr Simon Madamalala.

Mr Ephraim Mkhonto (second from left) receives blankets from Cllr Nkele Milanzi (left), Mr Nathi Tshiwanammbi (Musina Municipality General Manager: Economic Development and Planning) and Musina Manager for Housing and Community Services Mr Mike Mukoma (right).

“I spent a lot of mon-ey building my house and, on completion, I asked the municipality to connect the sewerage. For seven years I have been taken from pillar to post, with so many excuses being given for the non-connection. Sometimes these people would apologise for the delay and promise that it would be taken up as an urgent case, but seven years down the line, it has not been done,” he said.

He said the last time he went there to com-plain was last August and was given an as-surance in writing that it would be done very soon. Showing a copy of the letter he got from the municipality last year in September, Mugagadeli said the non-connection of the sewer was caus-ing a lot of problems at his home. “Just imagine a six-roomed house in a township with no toi-lets. This is not a rural area where people still use the bush to relieve themselves. These peo-ple should just come and do their work, fi nish and klaar,” he said.

Mugagadeli is blam-

ing his problem on incompetent offi cials who are not fi t for the work. “There is no service in this municipality. I have been paying full service for the site for seven years, but they fail just to connect my sewerage. This is unacceptable; somebody is not doing his work. If they do not rectify their mistakes, people will decide to take their votes somewhere else,” he said.

Thulamela municipality spokesperson Mr Nd-wamato Tshiila said the municipality had an open-door policy which Mugagadeli was well aware of. “If Mr Mugagadeli feels that he is not attended to well, he is at liberty to visit my offi ce or any other relevant offi ce, where he will be assisted,” he said.

Girl (6) drowns in the Ntepe River

“Proud to be one of the best”

A six-year-old girl drowned while she was bath-ing in a river at Guyu village outside Beit Bridge, the police have said. The incident happened on Friday at about 15:00.

Police spokesperson Insp Philisani Ndebele said the little girl was identified as Ashley Mutanga. She drowned in the presence of her sibling.

“Little Ashley went for a bath at Ntepe River in the company of her sister, Rejoice Ndlovu (14). Upon arrival at the river, she jumped into the water into a pool and was trapped by mud and drowned,” said Ndebele.

He said after seeing that her young sister could not be traced anymore, Rejoice quickly rushed home to inform the elders. “Villagers teamed up, managed to locate the girl’s body and retrieved it,” Ndebele. The matter was reported to the police and no foul play is suspected.

Yolanda Mafukata says that being the best 2013 Grade 12 pupil in the Soutpansberg North Circuit and to be counted among the best in Limpopo is the result of hard work, proper time management and dedication.

The 18-year-old from Mopane Intermediate School attained seven distinctions, namely in Tshivenda (home language), English first ad-ditional language, physical science, agricultural science, life science, mathematics and life orientation in the final Grade 12 examinations last year. “I have already been accepted for a degree in Chemical Engineer-ing at the University of Pretoria. I

will continue to raise the Limpopo flag wherever I go,” she said while holding her precious trophy and two certificates. Her study tips to the cur-rent Grade 12 learners include giving oneself enough time to study.

“You must start studying from the first day when the school opens. The best way to approach exams is to or-ganize your studies accordingly, with a timetable that you will always stick to. Try and get rid of all distractions, and make sure you feel as comfortable and able to focus as possible.

You need everything completely tidy and organized in order to con-centrate.”

Gogo (93) still stays in dilapidated mud houseA devastated gogo Muofhe Mutavhat-sindi (93) is still living in a dilapidated mud house with three other family members at Mpheni. Her mud house was destroyed by floods back in the year 2000.

Mutavhatsindi has been waiting for the RDP house that she had been promised. Her three-room mud house collapsed during the flood disaster in 2000. Two of the walls fell over and her furniture was damaged. She shares the remaining

better off, but they are benefiting from the low-cost housing programme,” said Mutavhatsindi. “What gets to me the most is the fact that our local councillor, Sipho Masuka, knows about our situa-tion, but he has not done anything about it,” said one of the granddaughters, Lufu-no Bebeda. “The dilapidated mud house is not a safe environment for anyone to live in, especially for an old person such as my grandmother.”

Cllr Sipho Masuka said he was not

aware of the Mutavhatsindi family’s tough battle against poverty and poor living conditions.

He said he would also investigate what had happened to the three unsuccessful applications for an RDP house by the family.

The Makhado Municipality´s spokes-person, Mr Louis Bobodi, said the mu-nicipality had no record of such an issue and he said that as the municipality they would investigate and visit the family.

Mutavhatsindi said she registered for an RDP house in 2004, but was told by the lo-cal elected committee responsible for allo-cating RDP houses in her village that she did not qualify.

According to her, life becomes very dif-ficult during winter or when it rains. “The corrugated iron of the roof leaks heavily and we find it very dif-ficult to sleep when it rains. We remain seated until the ear-ly hours of the next day, because the floor becomes wet. Some-times we are forced to make fire inside the hut just to keep ourselves warm. Baby drowns in pool

Seminar for aspiringbusiness people

The SAPS at Musina have opened an inquest docket after a three-year-old baby drowned in a swimming pool at the mother’s work place on Monday.

According to the spokesperson for the Musina police, Const Dakalo Ramagwede, a 44-year-old mother, who works as a domestic worker at a local lodge, was busy cleaning when she noticed that the baby was not inside the house. “She went to look for the baby,” said Ramagwede. “Sadly, she found her inside the swimming pool.”

The woman then screamed for help and another lady came over and jumped inside the water. She lifted the baby out of the swimming pool. “Unfor-tunately, the baby was already dead,” Ramagwede said. “As the police, we are calling on all mothers and guardians to always keep an eye on children.”

Aspiring businesspeople in the Vhembe district can look forward to starting the new year on a positive note with a business seminar that will be held at the Khoroni Hotel in Thohoyandou on Saturday (25th).

The business seminar, dubbed Wealth Creators Boot Camp, is organised by Afr8 and it is aimed at outlining the easiest ways of establishing a busi-ness. The seminar is also set to help people discover the reasons why so many start-up businesses fail. During the sessions, success stories and strategies will be discussed, such as that of the 2013 Young Entrepreneur of the Year nominee, Kholofelo “The Whyguy” Pholafudi.

Phololafudi is an experienced motivator. “I am also going to explain to people how they can grow their business without putting a cent in. They will be able to learn how to identify and harness the hidden opportunities in their market or industry while cashing in on their talent,” Pholafudi said.

Phalaphala FM personality Jimmy Netshilulu will be the MC of the day. The cost of attending the seminar is R100 per person. The seminar will start at 08:30 and will continue until 14:00.

“Please Khaukanani come home,” pleads motherThe family of a mentally ill man, Mr Khau-kanani Daniel Tshidada (38), who was reported missing some two months ago, is deeply worried about his safety.

According to Tshidada’s mother, Vho-Elisa Tshidada, she was sitting inside the house with him at her home in Madombidzha Zone 2. He stood up and walked out. When twilight came and Tshidada hadn’t returned, Vho-Elisa started to get worried and searched for her son in the neighbourhood.

“I even called all my relatives, but they all told me that he hadn’t come to their homes,” she said. “I am unable to sleep at night because I am always thinking about my son. I am not sure if he is safe wherever he is at this time of the year.”

Vho-Elisa explained that she felt more pain when she went into his room to do cleaning. “I see his clothes and other articles he used and it pains me,” she said. “I ask the people of this world to help me find my son. I love my Khaukanani; we deeply feel his absence in the home.”

Khaukanani is affectionately known as Khau in the village and neighbourhood. According to

Vho-Elisa, he is a good person who also loves socialising.

The spokesperson for the Tshil-wavhusiku police, Const Munyadzi-wa Marindi, confirmed that a missing person’s docket had been opened after the man reportedly went missing on 29 November 2013. “According to

the family of the missing person, he was last seen wearing a pair of blue jeans, black boots and a blue t-shirt,” Marindi said. “We request members of the community to notify the police about Khaukanani’s whereabouts if they have any information.”

Khaukanani Daniel Tshidada (38) is missing.

Vho-Elisa Tshidada (62) is worried about her son’s safety and is pleading for the community to help her find Khau.

A slippery soap thief found himself face to face with the law.

Tshifhiwa Nicholas Mabogo (22) appeared before the Louis Trichardt District Court on Mon-day on a single count of shoplifting. According to information supplied by the police, they were summoned to the Bonjour convenience store at the Total garage in Krogh Street to investigate a case of shoplifting.

The police then noticed Mabogo walking along Krogh Street, with a face towel hanging over his shoulder. Police questioned Mabogo, asking him to produce proof of payment for the towel and a bar of soap he had with him to the value of R23. When Mabogo failed to produce any proof, he was taken back to Bonjour, where security videos of the incident were reviewed. Mabogo was identified as the culprit.

On Monday, he was found guilty and sentenced to a fine R500 or one month imprisonment.

Rospa United must beat Bellevue Winners Park at the Makwarela Stadium tomorrow afternoon in order to restore their lost pride. Rospa United lost their previous three league matches in a row, two of which were played at their home ground, the Makwarela Stadium.

They lost 1-3 to Mighty FC and 0-1 to Joe’s Express before donating points to Phungo All Stars at the Makhado Eltivillas grounds last Saturday. Rospa will pin their hopes on their fast forward, Kenneth “Mabena” Lesia, for goals while their veteran defender, Tshifhiwa Mmboi, will ensure that their danger area is always clean.

Bellevue Winners Park are an unknown quantity to Rospa United. They are newcomers in the Safa Second Division, following their promotion from the SAB League at the end of last season.

Joe’s Express will be lucky if they manage to grab a point in their match against Giyani Hotspurs at the Giyani Stadium. Although it will be an away fixture for them, Joe’s Express must win the match in order to keep their title hopes alive. They are one of the hot league title chasers.

Mosesetjane All Stars will host Lephalale Young Killers at the Mahwelereng Stadium in Mokopane. Unlike last season, where Young Killers escaped the relegation axe by a whisker, Young Killers are a force to be reckoned with this season. Great North FC will play against The Dolphins at the Seshego Stadium in Polokwane.

Magezi FC and Dynamos will lock horns at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium and Modimolle Aces will pay a visit to Winners Park at the Mahwelereng Stadium. Blue Rocks will undertake a journey to Polokwane. They will play against Ray Pillars at the Seshego Stadium.

In the only match that will be played this eve-ning, Mighty FC will entertain Phungo All Stars at the Peter Mokaba Athletics Stadium.

A must win match for Rospa United

Lucky Funyufunyu of Stars jumps high to head the ball. Mpho Matumba is attempting to interfere.

Mpheni Home Defenders and Oscar Stars in drawMpheni Home Defenders and the log leaders of Stream E of the Safa Vhem-be MMK Insurance Brokers League, Makhitha Oscar Stars, played to a 1-all draw at Mpheni on Sunday.

It was evident from the start of the match that Defenders were going to give

their opponents a tough time as their mid-fielders were dishing out promising passes to the front runners. In the 11th minute, Aaron Lisoga of Defenders received a good pass, but shot wide from close range. Five minutes later, John Marindi of Stars went loose and suffered the pain of

watching his half volley go a little wide.Shumani Nthulane of the visitors was

booked for the application of dirty tricks. The home team enjoyed more ball pos-session, but their promising moves were turned into nothing by the rock-solid defence of their opponents.

The match turned out to be a balanced affair in the last stanza. That was mainly due to the fact that Stars cooled the ball down in the middle of the park, thus giving their opponents no chance to do as they pleased. Both sides used all their substitution chances.

A striker of Stars, Itani Selota, scored after he finished off a well-cooked pass from Baro Sebola. The visitors were unlucky in the 78th minute. They were awarded a free kick at the edge of the penalty box when Lucky Funyu-funyu was brought down on the brink of scoring. Talelani Mbekwa shot a little wide.

Defenders equal-ised late in the match through Chester Mu-laudzi, who received pre-cooked pass from Uzzel Ramukhuvhathi.

Stall owner Ms Konanani Kwinda (54) says that she is a licensed vendor.

A disgruntled group of hawkers in Makhado stand together and talk about their plight.

The Limpopo Mirror's offices were inundated with telephone calls last Thursday from hawkers in Makhado town. They claimed that the officials from the municipality had been mistreating them for the past two weeks.

When a journalist arrived at the scene near Tasty Snacks in Burger Street, a group of hawkers was caucusing about their plight.

“Our municipality is out of order – how can they say we must go and operate our business at the El-tivillas bus terminal?” said one elderly lady. “Don't

“Municipal officials mistreat us” - hawkersthey know that there's no business down there?”

Ladies and youths produced their vendor's li-cences which they had secured from the department which deals with traffic control at the Makhado Mu-nicipality. They claim that they are legal hawkers and request the municipality to stop chasing them from the streets.

“How will we support our families if we stop selling?” said Ms Florah Manenzhe (56), who started selling in the town's streets in 1993. “I live in Tshikota, and I have got six mouths to feed.”

Emmanuel Muleya (29) has been a licensed RICA agent for the past three years. “I have seen youths my age get into crime because there are no jobs available for most of us,” he said.

“They say we mustn't conduct our business on this spot; where must we go now? All I am doing here is vuk'uzienzele (get on to your feet and do it yourself) but I am being ill treated. This is what musician BlackJahman sings about when he says municipalities persecute the hawkers.”

Another stall-owner, Ms Konanani Kwinda (54), who operates public phones and sells snacks, said she had never neglected to pay for her licence. “People are selling illegal cigarettes publicly all over the town and they are doing nothing about it. Why us? What wrong did we do to deserve this kind of humiliation?”

The spokesperson for the Makhado Municipality, Mr Louis Bobodi, referred the newspaper to the Corporate Support and Shared Services' office in the municipality. The human resources and labour relations manager, Adv Michael Makhado, acknowledged receipt of our media inquiry.

"Kindly take note that the email below has since been referred to the relevant directorate and our PR will get back to you in due course," responded Adv Makhado.

Border jumper nearly drowns in riverA suspected border jumper narrowly escaped death when he was swept away while at-tempting to cross the fl ooded Limpopo River into South Africa illegally.

Benjamin Makuvaza (20) Zaka village was in the company of four other unidentified border jumpers, who were crossing the border to South Africa illegally on Saturday afternoon. “While

in the process of crossing the Limpopo River, Makuvaza was swept away by the water, while his friends managed to swim to safety. They then started to search for him and found him on an island and sought assistance

from local villagers, who helped him to cross back to Zimbabwe,” said Ndebele.

He expressed concern over drowning cases in the border

town, saying that it was a com-mon phenomenon during the rainy season.

Ndebele urged members of the community to desist from illegally crossing the flooded and crocodile-infested Limpopo River, saying they were putting their lives at risk. “We encourage people to apply for passports and cross the border by using desig-nated points,” he said.

Destitute couple overjoyed with houseDespite the fact that it has been two weeks since a posh house was handed over to them by the Minister of Ru-ral Development and Land Reform, Gugile Nkwinti, the Ndlovu couple of Shibangwa village in Malamulele are still overjoyed.

The house was built for the destitute family of four, Mr Edward Ndlovu (60) and his wife Mjaji (57) and their two children.

They are unemployed and survive on the grant Mr Ndlovu receives as a disabled person. That, however, changed after the intervention of 21 youths. They are in a national rural service corps at Madzahisi College at Madonsi, and decided to build the house for the poor family as part of their training.

This is a modern six-roomed house, with three bedrooms, a

bathroom, kitchen and a lounge. When presenting the house,

Nkwinti was full of praises for the youths and the director of Madzahisi College, Dr Tinyiko Khosa, who donated material for the house.

Calling them “activists for de-velopment,” Nkwinti said local young people and the business community should take a cue from them and do something for the community.

He said the youths phoned his offi ce and said they wanted the Minister to come and hand over the house, and he was not going to disappoint them. “I know that you are unemployed as you have fi nished your training. My advice to you is to come together as a cooperative and build hous-es for people,” he said.

One of the youths, Dieketseng Mashego, said most of the youths who built the house

came from Sekhukhune district, while some were from Mopani. She said they decided to leave a lasting legacy in the area, after they had seen the conditions the family were living under while they were doing their training in the area.

The new owner of the house, Edward Ndlovu, said getting a house was a miracle for him. “When sleeping in my hut, I could see the moon from in-side, and during heavy rains we would go and ask for shelter in my sister’s huts,” he said.

His sister, Ms Celia Ndlovu, said the donation to her brother was God’s answer to his suf-fering.

The family received another boost, when the head of commu-nity affairs of Do Lite Transport, Mr Andrew Kotoane, presented them with furniture.

The happy family, with the new house in the background.

Hard work means success for rural girlsAn inspirational story of two young girls from Nzhelele has touched many community members, with others calling it history made unexpectedly.

On the eve of the announce-ment of last year’s Grade 12 results, these two girls were anxious like most other pupils who had written the matric exam last year. Reaping the genuine results of their commitment and dedication was an ecstatic moment they will cherish for the rest of their lives.

Rofhiwa Ntshagovhe and Rial-ivhuwa Tshisimba, both 18 years old, have proved that where you come from should not stop you from succeeding. Despite stay-ing in a community regarded by many as poverty stricken and that has limited access to information, these two young girls proved that hard work has immense rewards.

Rofhiwa, from Makungwi village devoted her time to her studies and gave up her social life throughout the whole of last year. Though she was travelling to Mbilwi Secondary School every weekday, she sought help from

various people who assisted her with study resources. She used her weekends to attend Saturday classes and study.

Talking to Limpopo Mirror shortly after the announcement of the matric results, Rofhiwa said she was a bit nervous and did not know what to expect, but she knew she would one day reap the fruits of her commitment. “From the beginning of the year I always told myself that being from a rural area would not stop me,” she said. She acquired distinc-tions in mathematics, physical science, geography, Tshivenda, English, life orientation and life science. She will study chemical engineering at the University of Pretoria this year.

Rialivhuwa Tshisimba, who stays at the Ha-Mavhunga RDP houses, a community near Makungwi village, acquired six distinctions. She used to travel almost five kilometres every weekday since she started her high school erducation at Tsha-makwatini Secondary School half a decade ago. She was incredibly disciplined.

The noise at most taverns in her community persuaded her to go to study at the school, even on weekends. Being from a ru-ral area and attending a public school there did not stop her from working hard.

“I don’t believe in the myth that if one wants to pass well one should go to a former Model C school. I have always believed that action and vision go hand in hand,” she said. She told Lim-popo Mirror that anyone could achieve success.

“Look where I come from; there are always bashes and parties every weekend and most young people attend those things instead of studying,” she said. “I just want to express my great gratitude to my stepfather, my mother, my teachers and every-one who helped me to climb this mountain,” she added.

Rialivhuwa acquired distinc-tions in Tshivenda, English, mathematics, geography, life orientation and life science. She is going to study aeronautical engineering at Witwatersrand University.

Mr Abraham Netshituni and his stepdaughter, Rialivhuwa Tshisimba, display her Grade 12 certifi cate.

The smi le says i t a l l : commitement has great rewards. Rofhiwa Ntshagovhe acquired seven dis-tinctions in Grade 12 last year.

A former lecturer at the Uni-versity of Venda, Prof Jaco Kruger, is the editor of a new collection of Venda ngano stories. Kruger is attached to the School of Music at the Potchefstroom Campus of the North West University (NWU).

Entitled The girls in the bao-bab: Venda stories from the Limpopo Valley (2013), the collection contains 43 ngano stories translated into English. Ngano are short stories that integrate speech with chanting and singing. The translations are accompanied by their orig-inal Tshivenda texts, song tran-scriptions and interpretations, while the entire collection is discussed in a comprehensive introduction.

The collection was docu-mented from 2005 to 2011 in the Niani district by Kruger and Mr Mathuvhelo Mavhetha and translated by Rev Pfananani Masase and Mrs Tshifhiwa Mashau.

It is the third in a series on Venda verbal musical arts, fo-cusing especially on the ngano genre. It has been produced un-der the auspices of a wider re-search project into local forms of musical art in South Africa, conducted by the School of Music at North West University (Potchefstroom Campus).

According to Kruger, the ngano project is an attempt to document as much as possible “of a rapidly disappearing art form. Ngano stories are of ancient, pre-colonial origin and have decreasing value in a

changing world. Ngano perfor-mance no longer is a wide-spread communal activity, and very few people are able to recall ngano stories from their earlier lives. It appears as if current the older generation is the last to carry memories of this once vital per-formance art.”

Contrary to popular belief, Kruger said, ngano are not mere “fireside tales” for children. “The

ngano genre in Africa is one of the foundations of morality and social relations, since they con-firm and critically evaluate social norms and roles.”

He added that the ngano proj-ect welcomes aboard anyone concerned about the disappear-ance of ngano and asks interested persons to contact him at [email protected] or 072-539 1410.

Two of the best-performing schools in Limpopo, Tshivhase High and Thengwe Secondary, have promised that they will do their utmost to produce a 100% pass rate in this year’s matric results.

The two principals, Messrs F h a t u w a n i M a s e l e s e l e (Tshivhase) and Nkhangweleni Nemudzivhadi (Thengwe), made a bold promise during a special visit to their schools by Premier Stan Mathabatha, Education MEC Dikeledi Magadze, the executive mayor, Cllr Tshitereke Matibe, Thovhele Kennedy Midi-yavhathu Tshivhase, the district senior manager, dr Rammbiyana, and other dignitaries.

Mathabatha and his entou-rage visited the two schools on Wednesday, on the day the

schools re-opened. Tshivhase obtained a 98% pass rate as only eight pupils out of their 392 failed. The school is based in the deep rural area of Vhufulwi and produced the top pupil in the whole province, Ntsundeni Ndou.

Ndou, who scored more than 1 700 marks in the final matric results, was given a Toyota Etios, a laptop, an iPhone, an iPad, a bursary of R50 000 and a R10 000 cash price in recognition of his hard work.

Maselesele attributed their success to their dedicated team, which includes teachers, parents and pupils. Maselesele said the school did not have enough teachers for the more than 2000 pupils. “The bad road from the main road to the school also

makes it difficult during rainy days,” said Maselesele.

Mathabathe said he was happy that the school was promising a 100% pass rate for this year’s results. He said he was convinced that the school would deliver on its promise, which would make it easier for the province to reach its target of producing a 70% pass rate this year.

“We will do our best to make sure that we provide answers to your challenges.” He also encouraged learners to choose relevant courses, so that they can be employable.

Thovhele Tshivhase said he was also honoured the school’s success. He said the Tshivhase Development Foundation would support the school as they had done before.

Premier Mathabatha addresses learners of Thengwe Secondary. With him are, from left, Thengwe’s principal, Mr Nemudzivhadi, Executive Mayor Tshitereke Matibe, MEC Dikeledi Magadze and Thovhele Midiyavhathu Tshivhase on the right.

Thovhele Gole Mphaphuli, one of the most respected royals in Limpopo, led by example when he arrived at the high-riding Mbilwi Sec-ondary School unannounced, clothed in a school uniform, on the first day of the school calendar.

Mphaphuli arrived at the school wearing well-polished shoes, a suit in the school co-lours and a tie. He became an instant hit with pupils, who asked to take photographs with him, which he did willingly.

Mphaphuli is very passionate about education and has been

an inspiration and an encour-agement to the school which is based in his territory for years. “I always come here to encourage pupils and over the years, this has worked to our ad-vantage, as the pupils continue to make us proud by producing the best results.

We will continue associating ourselves with this school, which has put our rural village on the national map by being one of the best schools in the country, “he said.

He mentioned that he decid-ed to wear a uniform in order to encourage pupils and show

them that it is important to wear their uniforms. “A uniform instils a sense of discipline in the pupils. Discipline leads to a better a performance, which in turn ensures the best results. We will still visit other schools and encourage pupils and their teachers that, if they work hard, they will produce the best,” he said.

Vhembe District senior man-ager Mr Shumani Ravhuanzwo, who was present during the vis-it, hailed Mphaphuli as a good example to the pupils, saying it would encourage others to follow his example.

Cuzy Mzala releases wedding albumA 35-year-old Musina singer, Cuzy Mzala, is quickly mak-ing a name for herself in the province after she released her debut wedding album, titled Cousin.

Cuzy Mzala's album hit the shelves late last year and it has already earned her a significant number of followers in Musina, where she also lives in Nance-field.

“I am past 30 years of age and my album has just come out; it was surely long overdue,” she says.

She adds that she had always wished and planned to record a project of her own, but she couldn't realise her dreams be-cause of a lack of funds. “Hon-estly speaking, I have lived with music in me since I was a little girl,” she shares.

Cuzy Mzala's cous-in, a top club DJ in Musina and develop-ing producer popularly known as DJ Godzil-la, appreciated Cuzy Mzala's talent enough to record the project, which became her first album. “He's an an-gel,” she says of her cousin.

The album consists of eight tracks, such as Cuzi Motswala, Lufu-no, Nga Ri Farane and I'm Sorry. In I'm Sorry, a woman tells the man in her life that she has

had enough of a man who cannot appreciate and accept that he has a spouse.

“I am that kind of a woman who believes that a real man must focus on building his family,” she says. “He should shower his wife and children with love. If he fails to do so, the relationship is bound to fall apart.” Cuzy Mzala, whose real name is Salome Munaka, worked jointly with Godzilla in the composition of the songs. Both artists had lost their fathers unexpectedly and that explains why they decided to dedicate the song Ndi Muimbeleli to their respective late parents.

“On my side, I decided to ded-icate the song to my father, who passed away before he could see how talented his daughter is,”

she explains.Cuzy Mzala started singing

seriously in a musical group, Samp Tone, at Matsa village, under the guidance of choral master Samuel Mulaudzi. “Mu-laudzi loved music deeply,” she recalls. “And we sang at weddings and other community ceremonies.”

“There are so many people who have singing talent, but do not have an idea where to get help,” she says. “I am making a call on all those who have already made it in the industry to help ambitious singers.”

Cuzy Mzala previously lived at Pola Park, between Hazyview and White River, Mpumalanga. Her music is available at music stores, and she can be contacted on 072 467 3638 for bookings.

Local sculptors need help from farmersFourteen local sculptors of northern Limpopo have decid-ed to collaborate in an initiative to find avenues for sustainable wood collection for their sculp-tures.

At the moment, they are most-ly working with suitable dead indigenous wood types that they find in their immediate surrounds. These include woods such as teak, lead wood and wild olive that has to be completely dry to avoid risk of cracks in the sculptures and functional art. These resources are, how-ever, becoming scarcer by the day, especially when wood for cooking is also collected in the same areas.

The group of artists recently attended an artist’s workshop at Madi a Thavha Mountain Lodge just west of Makhado (Louis Trichardt) where they planned a local Soutpansberg artists’ exhi-bition at the lodge for the end of April 2014.

“We will let the exhi-bition run for a month and plan to invite other local artists like Jaco Roux and Emmie Craf-ford, while works of the late Jackson Hlungwane will also be exhibited,” the group said. There will also be paintings, exquisite local jewel-lery, ceramics and tex-tile art. Lodge owner Ms Marcelle Bosch also sources hand-picked and quality functional art items around the mountain to exhibit. “We are truly proud to be part of an amazing group of artists in and around the Soutpans-berg,” said well-known Soutpansberg artist Shoni Mainganye, who has travelled the world and exhibited in many European and Scandi-nawian countries.

The group appealed to all individual or col-lective farmers, gov-ernment departments or companies who de-bush areas which have huge indigenous or fruit trees, be it for agriculture, roads, railway lines or electrical lines, to please

contact one of the representatives of the group, so that they can perhaps work out a way to save, recycle and collect fallen trees at central points. “Local wood of local farmers with local stories add wonder and an eco-friendly, cooperative flavour that warms the hearts of farmers, artists and buyers alike. We all like to pre-serve the treasures of the earth,” said artist Meshark Raphalalani.

The group said they found that avocado, litchi, citrus and guava trees have excellent wood for sculpting. Many intricate Chinese sculptures are made of litchi wood, whilst avocado wood has been used by the Aztecs of South America for thousands of years. Jacaranda is also first-rate sculpting wood.

Farmers around the Albasini Dam have already indicated that they would rather donate their old, redundant avocado and litchi trees for sculptures than to burn

them. “Thank you, we so appreci-ate your goodwill! We realise that you are all working against time to get rid of the fallen trees and therefore ask that you please give us a ‘sporting chance’ by letting us know in advance if you plan to take out some indigenous or fruit trees - for whatever reason - so we can plan transport and distribution on our side. Few of us have bakkies or cars, but we would like to collaborate to make a plan,” the group said.

The group’s “exco” members consist of Mr Meshark Raphalal-ani (Tshakhuma close to Levubu / 081 813 0069), Mr Avhashoni Mainganye (Thohoyandou and Phiphidi / 084 725 9613), Mr Thomas Kubayi (Mbokhota close to Elim / 072 180 2398), Mr Ezer-ael Tavhana (Nzhelele Valley / 072 1322181) and Mr Albert Munyai (Mutale / 076 568 9488). Black Leopards vs Chiefs

Renovated Makhuvha Stadium fit for play at last

Joe’s Express beat Mighty in controversial match

Unlike in the previous years, where Black Leopards were matched against lower-division teams in the last 32 stage of the Nedbank Cup KO competition, the situation is completely different this year. Lidoda Duvha were drawn against Kaizer Chiefs.

Leopards’ coach, Mr Kostadin Papic, said that the fact that they had won the home-ground advantage will be significant to them. Chiefs’ coach, Mr Stuart Baxter, was quick to mention that they would not underes-timate Black Leopards. He reiterated the fact the Nedbank Cup had pro-duced unbelievable results over the past years. He cited Kaizer Chiefs’ 1-2 defeat at the hands of Baroka FC and the Maluti FET College’s 4-1 victory over Orlando Pirates as good examples to substantiate his argument.

The other fixtures are: Thanda Royal Zulu vs Orlando Pirates, United FC vs Amazulu, Lamontville Golden Arrows vs Polokwane City, University of Pretoria vs Supersport United, University of Stellenbosch vs Bloemfontein Celtic, FC Buffalo vs FC Cape Town, Mainstay United vs African Warriors, Milani United vs Bloemfontein Young Tigers, Mo-roka Swallows vs Mbombela United, Maritzburg United vs Mpumalanga Black Aces, Santos vs Gamalakhe United FC, Free State Stars vs Wit-bank Spurs, Platinum Stars vs Great North FC, Ajax Cape Town vs Ma-melodi Sundowns and Ama BEE vs Bidvest Wits. Kaizer Chiefs are the defending champions. The dates and venues for the last 32 matches will be announced next week. The champions for the competition will receive a whopping R7 million.

The much-talked-about Makhuvha Stadium will host the first league match tomorrow, bringing to an end months of speculation that the stadium will only be ready for use in the next soccer season.

The National First Division (NFD) league match between Black Leop-ards and Baroka FC will be staged there. A representative from the Premier Soccer League, Prof Ronnie Scholtz, inspected the stadium last Thursday and gave it the thumbs up.

Lidoda Duvha’s brand manager, Mr Tshifhiwa Thidiela, could not hide

his joy when he was informed that the stadium has finally been approved to host NFD matches. “We have always been saying that the team’s fortunes will change when we play on our home soil,” said Thidiela. He appealed to the team’s fans to come in their numbers to witness the injured Leopards giving Baroka a baptism of fire. Black Leopards and Baroka played to a 2-2 draw in their first-round league match at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium five months ago.

Black Leopards are still in shock after losing 2-5 to African Warriors

Joe’s Express continued to pave their way up the log by beating Mighty FC 1-0 in their Safa Second Division League match at the Makwarela Sta-dium on Saturday.

The game was characterized by wast-ed scoring opportunities and numerous stoppages. Express could have scored more than three goals in the first half, but their strikers were unlucky. Their bulldozer striker, Rendani Madega, was the first player to cause an upset. He received a pre-cooked pass from Pfariso Mukoma and hesitated for far too long to unleash from the edge of the box and

lost possession. Instead of replacing him before the end of the first half, the coach of Express, Mr Edwin “Cafu” Ramphabana, blundered by allowing Madega to play until a few minutes into the last half, while it was evident that the player was down and out. The referee, Mr Sphiwe Nyambi, warned Hymer Munyai of Express with card when the game was 27 minutes old. He tackled Sifiso Masina off the ball. Lenox Mabila, who replaced Rendani Madega, combined well with Thembisani Nevhulamba at the forefront.

The game came to a halt for seven minutes in the 64th minute. This after

an official of Mighty, Mr Mighty Tlale, invaded the pitch, accusing the match officials of favouritism.

The goal which earned Express three valuable points came in the 78th minute. Thembisani Nevhulamba connected a square pass from Lenox Mabila and gave the keeper of Mighty, Thabiso Khumalo, no chance. The goal was an insult to Mr Tlale. He immediately instructed his players to evacuate the pitch, saying he was tired of watching “daylight robbery”. It was after some negotiations with the match officials that Tlale again instructed the players to play the game to the finish.

Two drown in separate incidents

Lottery Board donates sport equipment

The police in the Thohoyandou cluster have sent a stern warn-ing to people who go swimming to do so under the supervision of a skilled swimmer.

This follows the drowning of two young men in the Tshaulu and Tshifudi areas on Saturday.

Cluster spokesperson Maj Mashudu Malelelo said the

first incident happened at Tshaulu-Masiwana at about 12:30, when Gudani Makuya (17) was swimming with friends at the nearby Tshilaphala River.

The second incident hap-pened at the Tshamutshedzi River, where 21-year-old Rinae Nekhambele was also swimming with friends.

“We know that it is hot now, but we are making a call on communities to refrain from ven-turing into dams and rivers for the purpose of swimming without the supervision of someone who can swim. We are losing so many innocent lives due to drowning during the hot season,” added Malelo.

Maluta High school recently received a donation of sport equipment to the value of near-ly R100 000 from the National Lottery Board.

The donation includes four soccer kits, three netball kits, volleyball kits, skipping ropes, chess sets, whistles, athletics gear, score boards, soccer boots, balls and cricket bats and other equipment.

The chairperson of the Lottery Board, Prof Alfred Nevhutanda,

said that he was aware of the hardships faced by many parents in the area. According to him, the objective of the donation was to instil important values through participation in sports. It will also increase the pupils’ phys-ical, emotional and intellectual potential, promote mass partic-ipation in schools for a better health while reviving a culture of learning in schools, he added.

The principal of the school, Mr Joseph Phungo, could not

hide his happiness. He said it was good to be receiving from the lottery. “We salute you, and we will always remember your helping hand.” He told the pupils to count themselves lucky to be receiving the sport equipment. He urged businesspeople from the area to follow in the lottery´s footsteps.

One of the pupils, Khodani Mathivha, promised the Lottery Board that they would handle the equipment with care.

Mixed fortunes for Maweja TakersAfter beating their archrivals, Tshakhuma RO United, 2-1 at Tshakhuma on Saturday, Maweja Takers shared the spoils with Ra-mukhuba FC the following day. Sunday’s match ended in a 1-1 draw.

As if they were going to bury the visitors alive, Takers approached the game like a house on fire. It took them only six minutes to score their goal. Mukandangalwo Ramunana was on target, following a brilliant pass from his captain, Khuliso Netshaulu.

Ramukhuba gained momentum towards the end of the first half. They threatened to score in the 34th minute. Their Rastafarian striker, Happy Maluleke, unleashed a powerful ground cutter from inside the box. The ball hit the woodwork and landed outside the field of play for a goal kick. Takers introduced Tendani Ramadi for Nkhanedzeni Nemahunguni early in the second half.

Their central defender, Shonisani Rambebu, was booked for wasting time. Ramukhuba then took the game to their opponents. Their endless efforts gave rise to a goal in the 57th minute. Hap-py Maluleke blasted in a rocket, following a scramble within the box. Two more play-ers for Ramukhuba, Lesley Masindi and Maanda Maeba, were reprimanded for dan-gerous tackling and obstruction in the 59th and 64th minute re-spectively. The home side missed a fortune in the 78th minute.A defender of Ramukhu-ba, Joel Manenzhe, handled the ball within the box. That prompt-ed the referee to award Maweja Takers a pen-alty. Their captain, Khuliso Netshaulu, caused an upset by shooting wide from the white spot.

J o e l M a n e n z h e of Ramukhuba was warned with a card,

Ndivhuwo Khwalu of Ramukhuba in action after kicking the ball, and Khuliso Netshaulu of Takers blocks the way.

Ndivhuwo Khwalu of Ramukhuba controls the ball, while Vhutshilo Gabara of Takers pulls him from behind.

following a continued argument with the referee moments thereafter. Maweja Takers lost hope after Netshaulu shot wide. They played defensive football for the remaining part of the game.

Tebogo Sekgotho of Takers controls the ball, while Rudzani Mudumela of Ramukhuba takles him from behind.

The Vhembe FET College collected full points at the expense of Makovha All Stars, whom they beat 2-0 in their MMK Funeral Services League match at the Makwarela Stadium on Saturday.

As if they were hyp-notised, Makhovha All Stars were not play-ing the normal carpet football for which they are widely known. The students demonstrated that they were hungry for goals when they threatened to score in the first five minutes of the game. Their right flank, Moses “Jack” Razwimisani, could not believe his eyes when his close-range volley missed the goal mouth by inches.

All Stars started to play entertaining foot-ball soon afterwards, but it was only for a few moments. They soon reverted to their boring pattern.

That gave Vhembe a good chance to score their opening goal. It was Moses Razwimis-ani who made things happen. A heartbreak-ing scramble within the Stars’ danger area gave rise to a beautiful goal when Razwimisani blasted in a rocket from an awkward angle.

Permission Munwa-na of Stars found him-self on the wrong side of the law in the 37th minute. He handled the ball intentionally and was lucky that the ref-eree, Mr Mphireleni Mphephu, was lenient enough not to give him his marching orders. Vhembe FET increased the margin in the 59th minute. Jack Razwi-misani was in the thick of things once more. This time around, he

capitalized on a clearing error by the Stars' right back and beat the keeper with a ground cutter.

All Stars lost hope when they were reduced to ten men. Their keeper, Maanda Ndou, saw red after kicking Gudani Makhada

on the brink of registering the students’ third goal. Realizing that victory was almost certain, the students started to entertain the team’s fans by demonstrat-ing their dribbling skills for the remaining part of the game.

Huge humiliation for Black LeopardsAs if they were not campaign-ing in the same division, the National First Division League match between Black Leopards and African Warriors at the Charles Mopedi Stadium on Sunday afternoon was a real mismatch. The final score was 5-2 for Warriors.

The defeat has been a big blow to the Thohoyandou outfit, as col-lecting maximum points would have narrowed the points gap between them and the logleaders, Chippa United, to 5, with Lidoda Duvha still having a match in hand.

The unexpected happened

at the Makhulong Stadium in Thembisa last Saturday. Milano United, who had been leading the pack since the beginning of the season, dropped points to Jomo Cosmos. Cosmos rose to the oc-casion and proved all their critics wrong by beating United 1-0. The victory was the second in a row for Comsos. They narrowly beat African Warriors 1-0 at the same venue last Wednesday afternoon.

Cosmos moved three steps up on the log, following the results of the two matches.

In their Mpumalanga derby in Witbank, Sivutsa Stars shared the glory with Witbank Spurs

when they played to a goalless draw. The score was not a true reflection of the game as the Stars from Nelspruit missed numerous chances.

FC Cape Town beat Chippa United 2-0 at the NNK Rugby Stadium in Cape Town and Vasco da Gama dropped two points when they played to a draw with Blackburn Rovers at the Sugar Ray Zulu Stadium in East London.

Roses United gave away league points to United FC when they were defeated 0-3 at the Moruleng Stadium in Rusten-burg.

Phungo overpower RospaPhungo All Stars were too strong for Rospa United in the Safa second di-vision Vhembe derby played at Louis Trichardt (Makhado) rugby stadium on Saturday.

As if they were hypnotized, United were out of touch throughout the first half. They were lucky not to concede goals during the first 45 minutes. Apart from this, United had their chances, but Lowis Chauke disappointed his team mates when he beat all defenders, including the goalkeeper, Hoven Gogo, just to shoot wide.

Stars had an early opportunity for a goal, but Justice Rasebotsa shot into the

hands of the opponents’ keeper, Avhak-holwi Thangwana. United defender and former Kaizer Chiefs player Tshifhiwa Mmbooi was yellow-carded for rough tackling a few minutes later. The score-board was still blank at the break.

The second half was war from the onset. Stars started this half at a very fast pace, giving their opponents not a mo-ment to breathe. Their midfielders kept on penetrating the defence, feeding the front-runners with balls.

United defender Tshifhiwa Mmbooi did not live up to expectations as he was used as a freeway by Stars’ strikers. Mmbooi

managed to get one into the net, however, following a free kick that was awarded after a Stars player committed a foul on Kirsten Mathole. The goal was disallowed because the referee, Mr Eric Munyai, had awarded an indirect free kick and the ball did not touch a second player before hitting the net.

Clement Shiburi of Stars should have scored in the 78th minute, but his shot hit the crossbar and bounced back into the field of play.

The only goal of the match belonged to Llody Davhana, when he scored from a free kick late in the match.

Tshifhiwa Mmbooi tries to trap the high ball, while Themba Chuene waits for a mistake.

Zwidonaka Rudzani of United (left) waits for any mistake from Isaac Makhovha, who hooks the high ball.
