Keeping records of your progress is an essential part of the Challenge and in this case templates are provided for you to use. it would be great however if you could design or develop some of your own. You will find help to do this is freely and widely available on the internet.

You are challenged to design and develop an innovative idea for a new customer service to be introduced at one of the Amgueddfa Cymru museums.

Amgueddfa Cymru is dedicated to preserving, presenting and promoting the culture of Wales.

There are seven museums:

this is not the Actual Challenge, this is a trial Challenge to help you to prepare for the Main Challenge.

TAsks1. to develop an idea for a new customer service for Amgueddfa Cymru.

2. Work in a team (consisting of 3-6 members) to design and develop an innovative customer service suitable for implementation at an Amgueddfa Cymru museum. the team must:

• produce a Visual display showing your ideas

• using the Visual display carry out a five-minute team Pitch of the business proposal for the service including any additional supporting materials and resources.

3. reflect on your performance and that of your team in the trial Challenge.

Choose a team member to take the minutes of meetings, starting with the first meeting.

Minutes are basic records or summaries of what happened at meetings. Keeping minutes will help you and your team by reminding you of what happened and helping you to keep up with developments. the minutes of your meetings will also provide important evidence for assessment of your progress and performance.

TAsk 2 Designing and keeping a personal Challenge Diary

Now design your own Challenge diary and be sure to fill it in at all stages of this trial Challenge.

during this Challenge you will be judged on your own performance as well as that of the team. You will be assessed on your development and use of skills, especially Personal Effectiveness and Creativity and Innovation.

Designing and keeping a Challenge Diary will enable you to record your:

The Challenge diary will enable you to keep a record as you go along. The table (right) gives you some ideas of the sort of things you will need to record in your Challenge diary.

This activity will help you to think about and identify possible customer services suitable for use at amgueddfa Cymru museums.

To help with your choice do some research on the amgueddfa Cymru museums.

You have to think of 5 potential service ideas.

remember it is important to be creative and innovative. if possible, visit the museum you choose to help you to come up with possible business ideas.

describe them, list their prices and say who would like them and why. This may spark some ideas for your product.

To help you to make your final choice between each of your five possible business ideas, carry out a swoT analysis of each idea. a swoT analysis is a useful way of working out the potential for a new business or product. swoT stands for strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.

opportunitiesthis could include exploiting a gap in the current market, expertise available in your team, possibilities for future development of the idea, potential for use of the idea at other sites.

TAsk 6 Creating a visual Display for presenting a five-minute Team Pitch

Create a Visual display

You will want to impress the panel with your ideas and your business plans. To do this you must produce a suitable and creative visual display. This will not need to be too detailed but must provide evidence about:

• Your Team – roles and responsibilities, how well you communicated and worked together

• Your vision – your business idea and why amgueddfa Cymru should adopt it for use at one of their museums

• Your Business Proposal – potential customers/clients, resources, funding and costs, marketing and promotional materials

Remember:

• You only have five minutes to convince the panel about your idea!

• This is a trial challenge and any feedback you get from the panel will be useful for when you tackle the real Challenge

• if you get the opportunity to be on a panel reviewing another group, it is important to give honest feedback covering both the strengths and weaknesses of their ideas
