THE OFFICIAL STUDENT PUBLICATION OF LA SALLE GREEN HILLS – ADULT NIGHT HIGH SCHOOL SECOND TRIMESTER S.Y. 2016-2017 VOL. XV NO. 2
18 Senior High School stu-
dents from Technical-Vocational-
Livelihood (TVL) Track passed the
TESDA Competency Assessment in
Cookery NC II qualification held on
October 22, 2016 as supervised by
International Training Center and
Hospitality Institute (ITCHI).
Passing the Cookery NC II
can be used by students as credentials
in applying for a job if they want to
work after SHS graduation. It is also a
good opportunity for students to ap-
ply the skills they have learned in
their respective courses.
“I’m so happy because we
passed the assessment in Cookery. All
the practice and effort are worth it.
We did our best to pass, and all our
classmates participated well,” says
Erlin S. Orilla of SHS-TVL.

May
natin. Ika nga, ‘’nasa Diyos ang awa nasa tao ang gawa’’.
There are unexpected things that happen in our lives that persuade
us to face the reality of life. Every year we have our ‘’New Year’s Resolu-
tion.’’ Do we really consider it seriously or is our promise just hanging in
the air as ‘’broken promises”? Do we even consider changing for the better
as an option?
We should accept the fact that we cannot avoid change. Change is
the only permanent thing in this world. Unexpected things happen to us
which sometimes shake us and make us feel disappointed about our exist-
ence.
There are things that we can do. We should face the reality of life
and focus to the future. We should not dwell so much in the past. Howev-
er, sometimes it is good to look back and reflect on the kind of life we had.
There is a Filipino saying “Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinanggalin-
gan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan.” We can use our past as an inspiration
or a stepping stone on our way to the new chapter of life. Focus on the
good and positive things in life. People have a different way of looking at
things. If we have a positive mindset, surely our actions will also be posi-
tive. What we do may be a reflection of how we look at things.
Truly, it is hard to change specifically our bad habits. What we can
do is to think of something good or someone that can make us happy and
will serve as our inspiration. It will help us to do things with a smile. It is
possible with people who have dedication, determination, and patience.
Changing will require a little bit of time and perseverance. If we have a
heart in whatever we are doing, nothing is impossible.
The best inspiration to change is Jesus. Because of him, we have a
second chance in the everlasting life, and the sins of humanity are cleansed
through his death. We should strive to change for the better, a better ver-
sion of ourselves. If not now, when? We should not wait before it is too
late. Be the change that you want to be.

the Better By Kristine Ruth P. Carelo, SHS-ABM

Mayroon nga ba talagang forever? Bakit may namamatay? Bakit may lungkot

Kaya nga malungkot kasi may umaalis at may nawawala.
lanan nina Eva at Adan.
makasalanan, walang matuwid ni isa man.
gangaliwa, at pagtataksil.
mahabang pagtitis at mabait.
Walking on the road is like putting yourself in hell. You are passing and
seeing all the demons that anytime can kill you. You have no choice. You need to
face them, and fight your fear. Fear sometimes paralyzes us and makes us afraid
to do things. Our world is full of different kinds of people, and whether we like it
or not, we cannot change things the way they are.
It is like entering a door with no idea what will happen to you inside.
That is the reality of life. Sometimes life offers us mysteries that we need to un-
lock which we will never know until we try. If we are always confronted with
fear then we cannot move forward in our lives. Take for example when we chose
to enter in ANHS. Some of us probably felt afraid not knowing what is in store
for us in this school. The moment we started stepping inside the campus, we still
did not have any idea what life would be here. But as days went by, we were
able to understand why we are here. We met different kinds of people that led us
to the right direction.
However, in our journey to life, there are also people who put us down.
We need to collaborate with the people that we know can put us down. We have
no choice because we need to survive in life, so face them with all your might.
Just trust in yourself and in your abilities. Sooner or later, people will realize that
you are not really weak like how they thought you were. We should be stronger
than our fear. Put your fear under your feet, and everything will be fine.
Learning from
Life’s Mistakes
I remember in my sleep there was the apparition of St. La Salle and a
Monkey man like me. I asked myself, “Is this some kind of calling or an image of
a new hope?” The following day, it was a Christian Living class, and our topic
was the life of St. La Salle. My teacher shared about the struggles, the rise and fall
of St. La Salle. I became interested to learn about his life. I thought this will be a
new hope and a reason to change my habit of not being serious in my studies,
always procrastinating, always anxious, and doubtful of myself. I was “The
Great Pretender” back then. I felt like a victorious fraud and easy go lucky guy. I
thought, “Is this really what I want to be?”
From then on, I decided to show my personality in school, to change my
vision for my family, and to be treated fairly by my friends. I believed that I
could do better. I thank my adviser that year because he was the one who en-
couraged me to stand up from the ground, and to that soon to be English teacher
for giving me opportunities to reveal my talent. I wrote a short inspiring story
about the legend of a Monkey who has been through a lot of challenges and who
has challenged the gods. He has been persecuted and asked to change his life by
saving or doing good deeds to others. I was very proud of myself when it came
out of the school paper that was read by my classmates, fellow school mates and
even teachers. Then, I decided to write more stories and articles until I joined that
organization.
I realized that St. La Salle, the monkey, and I have similarities. Those
mistakes in life are part of the lessons and the nightmares and hallucinations are
just silver linings leading to a beautiful dream. I did my best to finish Grade 9
applying all the knowledge and skills I have learned, and I succeeded. It is just a
matter of accepting your limitations and moving forward.

PANITIKAN
Senyas Ni Jovanie Bonaobra, Bread and Pastry Production NC II
Paano ba kita kakausapin?
Hanggang Kailan?
Ni Joahnna Paula B. Alcantara, 10-B
Isang panibagong umagang madilim
Tahanang tila ba’y may kulang
Pursigido,
At wala kang mapapasukang ma-
gandang trabaho,” pagsasalaysay niya.

Spoken words we hear each day
Which lead us here where we are today
Some are harsh, some don’t say But there are some that we need to say
We use these words in the battlefield
To defend ourselves so that we won’t yield
To educate and to doctrinate
And most of all so we don’t hate
In this world that is full of technology
You better know how to use it wisely
Because these words can make you or break you
You have to learn to control for it could teach you
Master the words that you have spoken
So that the trust will not be broken
This language is spread out to all the nations
May we love it and pass it to all generations
By Roy C. Arguelles, SHS-TVL
From strangers to lovers, lovers to strangers
You, whom I admire for so long have come to an end in a blow
The special feeling I’ve kept is now gone The promise you’ve made is now broken
Nothing left but a scar on it.
It’s easier to break than to fix
I wish to wake up from this misery
But reality hits me so hard that I’ve forgotten I’m fully awake
Full of strangers scattered around I let myself doze to sadness
That I regret falling into a deep slumber.
You brought me up from the muddy place I’ve been
Your touch enlightens me and brings energy to my weak body
Too sweaty to handle, too special to reject I wonder if this is real, and your touch do tell
Don’t dare to let go or I’ll never know what will happen
Let’s walk down the aisle hand in hand with a smile
Plastered on our face
I hope this feeling will last forever.
Strangers to Lovers

My Brain, My Feelings, and My Art By Hiroshi Magtoto, 10-A
Some people don’t appreciate my artwork. They think that I am a weird man because of my attitude. Everyday, I write. I draw be-
cause my brain is thinking something new because for me everyday is another day. I want to draw what I see in public places. Every time
I see children walking on the street holding plastic bag with solvent inside and sniffing the solvent, they seem high and free and do not care what they do to themselves. I feel bad every time I see those “solvent children.” I feel bad for our government because they do not
help the people who are in need. They really need attention, that’s why my brain is reacting. My brain is full of pain, and I have to draw
to release the pain inside my heart.
As a person, I want to help them, but my help is not the cure or all of us is not the cure to help them get well. Based on their sit-
uation, poverty is not a disease or a poison virus. Poverty is a problem. But if the poor people are not helping themselves,, poverty is go-
ing to stay in their lives if they continue their bad habits.
We need to help ourselves first to survive in the hunger or nightmare of poverty. We don’t need to wait for our government to
move. We must act first, and we need to help them in any small way we can.
The Importance of Life By Michael Louise E. Abad, 10-A
Do you ever wonder why you exist? Do you ever ask yourself why struggle if all of us will end up dy-
ing in the end? What is the essence of life?
For me, I have my own answers to all those questions, and I know you have your own answers as
well. Life is important for most people in this world. But for a few people, life is just nothing. Whenever they
do something and don’t know what to do, they easily give up and commit suicide. That is life for them. But
you know, life is full of surprises. It surprises you with a lot of problems, and it surprises you with good mo-
ments. For me, living is one grateful gift from God, and I want to treasure it. While living, you will encounter some problems that can make you strong or can make you weak. You’ll have to struggle, struggle in your
way to life, or maybe in your way to your dreams, goals, or whatever it is you want to achieve. Life is all
about experience: sadness, loneliness, happiness, or whatever it is the world has to offer. It doesn’t matter if
your life is limited. Just enjoy your life and do whatever you want. Just think before you do whatever you
want.
Think of life as a cake, a cake with a lot of toppings. The toppings will be your struggles and some
happy moments. Without toppings, the cake is just a plain bread. So life without struggles and happy mo-
ments is so plain and boring. Don’t throw your life away. Instead, be grateful and happy.

Beverage Services NC II students in order to learn more about Food and
Beverage Services, Housekeeping, Front Desk Operation and Galley
Works. In the past, the said activity was only offered to TVET students.
This year, TVL students from the SHS were able to join to have more ex-
posure as part of their courses in the K to 12 Curriculum.
A Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar was held last September
30, 2016 to prepare students in the said Shipboard Training.
Students attended a seminar on food and beverage services while
in Cebu. The speaker was Mr. Arnulfo E. Ragas, manager of Cebu Crown
Regency Residences – Cebu. Students stayed in Wellcome Hotel Cebu. Mr.
Jay-E Teguinos was the Shipboard Training Officer.
Students were joined by adult supervisors Miss Mercedes B. An-
drade, Mrs. Rosemarie L. Guansing, and Mr. Roy S. Daz, Administrative
Affairs Coordinator.
“At first I felt afraid of what will happen to us for our training for
three days, but I realized that there was nothing to worry about. I enjoyed
the one of a kind travel experience to learn things and to enjoy the beauti-
ful place,” says Peter John G. Corral of TVL.
“It was my first time to have shipboard training. I worked really
hard in different areas. I learned that we need to be always early for
work,” mentions Cromkell A. Vasquez of TVL, a Deaf student.

Protecting our beautiful
Philippines through coastal clean-up
By Niño Ricco C. Wong, SHS-ABM
Philippines is a beautiful country. It has rich natural resources. Howev-
er, when we went to Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat Ecotourism Area
(LPPCHEA) last November 19, 2016 for the Coastal Clean-up, I can’t help but ask
myself “Where is the beauty now?”
There were so many garbage around the seashore. Plastics are the nu-
merous things we collected there. We all know the effect of plastic in our envi-
ronment. What damage could we make in a single plastic that we throw? Plastic
causes flood, and with flood we can get many viruses from it.
Aside from the LSGH community, there were also students from Uni-
versity of Sto. Tomas and foreigners who voluntarily cleaned there as well. There
was debris collection, segregation, data recording, and weighing of waste.
According to Judy Ann Cumpio, one of the volunteers from SHS-ABM,
“Kaya ako sumali sa Coastal Clean-up dahil first time kong makasama. Kahit
We all have the urge to do something good for our nature, but we are
still doing things that could damage it. We must act accordingly with what we
know is right. We should learn to protect our environment for we only live here
once. Cherish the beautiful things God has given us, and do not take them for
granted. Think globally. Act locally.
Volunteer students from ANHS help in cleaning the coastal area in Las Piñas and Parañaque.
